This 1949 Chevrolet Deluxe 4-door is one of those cars that just shouldn\'t exist. Not that 1949 Chevrolets are unobtainium, but rather that finding one restored to this exceptional degree is, well, unheard-of. Clearly a labor of love, this might be the nicest one in existence, and if you like the old-school look, you\'re going to love how it drives. Maroon always looks right on \'40s cars, representing the conservative values of the time and there\'s nothing more conservative than a Chevrolet 4-door sedan. On the other hand, even the everyman Chevrolet was beautiful to look at and exquisitely detailed, so today it looks like it should cost thousands more than it does. Getting four doors to fit as well as they do here, plus that big hood, means that a lot of hours were spent sweating the little stuff. The curvaceous fenders make for a very appealing \'40s look and the sweep of the roof remains one of the best in the automotive kingdom. Accessories include fender skirts and a windshield visor, both popular in 1949 and lending this Chevy an upscale look. The chrome and brightwork has been fully restored as well, including the beautiful plastic hood ornament, which is pretty cool all by itself. Nice stainless trim buffs up beautifully and the blue dots in the taillights seem to be the only non-original feature. For understated elegance, nothing beats the 1940s. The striped upholstery, the low-key carpets, and the beautifully simple instrument panel make this Chevy as inviting as your grandmother\'s house. All of it has been correctly restored and it shows only minor signs of use, most notably some light stretching of the front seat upholstery. Otherwise, it looks very fresh and very well done. The gauges are all housed in a single round pod ahead of the driver and the effect is very appealing. Bakelite knobs control lights and wipers, and there\'s a 3-speed manual transmission on the steering column, so brush up on your shifting. This is one of the few \'40s cars we\'ve featured where the original AM radio is functional, which is always a nice surprise, and that odd-looking device atop the speedometer pod is called a \"trafficator\" which is a prism that allows the driver to see overhead stop lights despite the large exterior visor. Neat, right? The back seat is completely untouched and for family vacations, the big trunk with rubber mat and matching spare tire is ideal. Chevy\'s bulletproof 216 cubic inch inline-six was the backbone of the company for decades, and in this car it affords bright performance and reasonable economy, too. Insanely simple to work on and famous for its durability and smoothness, you\'ll find that this is an easy car to love. The engine bay is nicely detailed with corporate blue paint on the block and reproduction decals throughout. It starts easily with a great six-cylinder grumble from the single tailpipe and is happy to cruise at 60 MPH without complaints. Brakes are drums at all four corners, of course, but they\'re powerful enough for this car\'s modest performance and the ride will surprise you. It\'s quite clean underneath, proving that it spent its life in a mild climate, and with 6.70-15 wide whites on painted steel wheels with trim rings and hubcaps, it looks dashing from any angle. A very neat little car with a restoration that cost several orders of magnitude more than the asking price. If you like these cars, you\'ll probably have a hard time finding a nicer 4-door anywhere. This tidy little 1949 Chevrolet coupe is an entry-level street rod with a great look and a lot of money recently spent under the skin. One of the best-looking designs of the post-war era, this is one of those cars that will never go out of style. Get in and drive is this car\'s motto. It\'s definitely not a trailer queen and proudly wears signs of being driven, because you can get in and drive to the opposite end of the country on a moment\'s notice. The coupe bodywork wears the bright red paint well, and since it\'s a few years old there are a few signs of age. On the other hand, there\'s also plenty of evidence that the work was really nicely done, because the doors fit well, the fenders have generous, smooth curves, and the gaps are tight. A few blemishes here and there shouldn\'t be held against it. It\'s been slightly smoothed, with the side trim and hood ornament getting the heave-ho during the build, but there\'s no mistaking that wide Chevy grille. Those also appear to be the original bumpers tucked in tight to the body, enhancing the vintage look, not to mention the practicality of having some protection at either end. The dark gray cloth interior is quite clean, and like the rest of the car, covers the basics with quality workmanship that\'s a few years old. The compact coupe is strictly a 2-seater today, with high-back buckets for both driver and passenger, separated by a custom-made center console. Simple door panels are probably the right choice in this simple little Chevy, and include details like the original armrests and door handles. Power windows were added, along with a well-integrated A/C system and a tilt column with a wooden steering wheel that\'s downright beautiful. The factory dashboard was painted to match the body and a custom gauge panel was fabricated to fit into the domed housing ahead of the driver, and it\'s stuffed full of elegant VDO gauges. They didn\'t interrupt the smooth lines of the dash with a radio, but if you need one it\'ll be easy enough to add, but I suspect you\'ll enjoy the drive too much to worry about it. The rear seat area has been converted into an upholstered package shelf and there\'s a cavernous trunk that\'s neatly upholstered and includes a full-sized spare. Open the hood and you can see where a majority of the money was spent. That\'s a recently rebuilt 350 cubic inch Chevy V8, fully dressed in chrome and ready to rock. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and Bowtie intake manifold handle the induction duties and there\'s a modern serpentine belt setup for the accessory drive that tucks the components in tight to the block. A custom aluminum radiator doesn\'t sweat hot days and the A/C uses modern R134a refrigerant for ease of service. Power front disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering make it feel far more modern on the road, and the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission always seems to be in the right gear. The new dual exhaust system sounds mellow, not obnoxious, and it handles well enough with a big front sway bar and traditional rear leaf springs. Staggered Torque Thrust wheels and 185/75/14 front and 235/75/15 rear radials add just a bit of rake for a traditional look. Affordable and fun to drive, this is a great way to get into a finished custom with an awesome drivetrain and a classic look. What else do you need for under $20,000? Call today! With patina being all the rage today, taking something that looks old and filling it with fresh mechanicals is an awesome way to have your cake and eat it, too. The bodywork on this 1949 Chevy 3100 pickup looks like it\'s been working the back 40 for decades, but the slammed stance, small block V8, and gorgeous interior all suggest that it\'s been working out in its spare time. The bodywork is original, which is to say, it hasn\'t been treated to a shiny coat of paint. The combination of silver paint, chips and scratches, and bare steel gives it a look of great age, and if this one was out in a field with the weeds growing around it, it wouldn\'t look out of place. But to keep it looking this way almost indefinitely, it\'s been treated to a shot of satin clear that preserves the look but makes it durable and easy to maintain. Looking closely, you\'ll see that the paint hides nothing, but the panel gaps are quite good, meaning someone spent some time intentionally making it look this way, and nothing has been shaved, trimmed, or altered. Instead, you get a look that will draw a crowd better than any restoration and a no worries attitude that means this truck can go anywhere, any time without a second thought. Yeah, maybe the chrome is a bit too nice, but one can hardly call that a defect, right? There\'s also a real pickup bed out back, albeit with a cleverly raised floor to clear the suspension (more on that in a few minutes) and appropriately weathered boards. They definitely nailed the look. The bright red interior is all new and all amazing. No fake patina here, just a combination of original components and a dash of style to make driving this 3100 a pleasure, not a chore. A bench seat wears fresh red vinyl upholstery, with a pair of door panels to soften the passenger compartment a bit. Factory instruments are in place and in good condition, framed by the original steering wheel that was painted red to match the rest of the interior. Controls for the slick Air Ride suspension setup are on a nifty remote that can controlled easily, while gauges for the front and rear psi is located in the glove box. Carpets on the floor help with noise and vibration, and while that shifter looks vintage, it\'s a modern Lokar unit connected to a TH350 3-speed automatic. Familiar 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 power makes this pickup more than just interesting to look at. Fitted with an Edelbrock carb and intake, MSD ignition, and a few dress-up parts, it looks right under the hood; not too flashy, but just enough to let you know someone was paying attention. A big aluminum radiator keeps it cool and a serpentine belt setup manages the accessories. The suspension is a real trick, letting this truck lay frame without compromising streetability, thanks to a set of air bags all around and custom rear suspension that was obviously custom fabricated just for these 3100s. It\'s so low that you need an access hatch in the bed to check it out, but it\'s definitely worth it, with more bright red details and impressive build quality. Painted steel wheels with simply hubcaps are the right look and wear vintage-looking wide whitewall bias-ply tires for a period look. An incredible illusion or just an incredible truck? How about both? If you want to attract attention, forget bright red paint and loud mufflers, this patina-covered pickup is the hot ticket. Call today! So this wild red 1949 Chevrolet coupe is attractive from across a show field, but those who get close can see the serious upgrades. They did not know it at the time, but Chevrolet was working its way towards an icon in 1949. By the mid-50s we'd have the legendary Bel Air shape, and you can see the beginnings of that in this Styleline business coupe. But this car is much more curvaceous. The hood has an aggressive bulge, and the rear fenders bow out like you know there is serious power coming out of those large rear wheels. When you painted one this ultra-hot shade of red, and add some staggered Torq Thrust wheels, this becomes one fast-looking hot rod. Of course, all that amazing looking chrome up front doesn't hurt, too. The dark gray cloth interior is a complete custom job, because after all, there were no comfortable high-back bucket seats in the 40s. Comfort is a central theme here, with a custom-made center console, and armrests in each door. Power windows were added, along with a well-integrated air conditioning system that runs modern R134a. The driver gets a terrific woodgrained steering wheel, excellent steering column, and beyond that, a full set of VDO gauges has been custom fitted into the dashboard's original opening. Open the hood and you can see where some serious money was spent. That's a 350 cubic inch Vortec V8, fully dressed in chrome and ready to rock. It includes an Edelbrock performance air filter, Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, and performance intake manifold to handle the induction duties. Plus, there's a modern serpentine belt setup for the accessory drive that tucks the components in tight to the block, and a custom aluminum radiator doesn't sweat hot days. There's plenty of reliable power churning out of this motor to make the dual exhaust howl if you really want, but there is also another side to this custom car. The mufflers can keep this car somewhat mellow, and instead just enjoy the evening cruising in your air-conditioned coupe while the TH350 three-speed automatic ticks away the gears with ease. This is a power steering car, and up front there's an independent suspension and disc brakes. So this one could be a Friday night brawler if you like, but it's quite comfortable just being you all-day Sunday cruiser, too. The business coupe was the rarest of all the '49 Chevy Stylelines, and someone invested a plenty into turning this into one slick creation. Here's an affordable custom build ready for whoever snatches it up first. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Detroit Autorama First Place Special Deluxe 230 I6 3 Speed A/C Year: 1949 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Blue Mileage: 1961 Transmission type: 3 Speed Manual Engine: 230 I6 Interior color: Blue Vehicle info This extremely slick Plymouth Special Deluxe is one of those cars that takes a lot of time to truly appreciate. Sure, at first glance, it appears to be a mild but nicely done custom with some of the usual tricks you'd find in a hot rodding 101 book. But then, when you take a closer look, you see things like traditional trim, restored assembly line pieces and an original flathead engine that wears a bunch of period-correct speed equipment. That's about the time that you'll catch yourself saying "Yeah, this thing IS cool." But hey, why stop there? Next thing you know you're glancing inside the car to savor its exceptionally well-executed, yet understated, interior. Then, you're taking a look under the car and noticing all the hand-fabrication that went into just its exhaust system, never mind its other components. And, after about 45 minutes, it occurs to you that you're standing next to a 'mild custom' which absolutely blows you away via class and seductive details! As I've mentioned numerous times, the best customs are that those seamlessly blur the line between what's original and what's been modified. And since this Plymouth muddies that line so well, you'd probably need to park it beside a factory fresh car to fully appreciate all of its subtle nuances. That said, some of the big changes are easy to spot including shaved door handles, frenched LED tail lights, a slightly modified hood, a heavily re-sculpted grille and a power radio antenna that's been recessed into one of the quarters. The car's Medium Blue Pearl paint is a mile-deep urethane that has enough sparkle to power a small city, although the harsh lights of our studio come nowhere near doing it justice. In true 'best custom' fashion, final assembly is vastly more precise than factory work and, as a result, all doors fit exactly, hood shut lines are even, and the car's deck lid is flush. And since this awesome Plymouth, which was a super-clean show-winning original before its latest transformation, has already won first place at the 2009 Detroit AutoRama, you can rest assured it's 100% worthy of the phrase 'best custom'. Naturally, all of the car's chrome and stainless has been restored to first class show standards. Those are original bumpers that have been straightened and re-chromed. A few elements of the car's original grille remain, but they have definitely been modified to provide an entirely new look. That strip down the center of the hood is a hand-made piece. In case you couldn't tell, those frenched headlights are modern sealed-beam halogen units. And all the glass except for the rear window is brand spankin' new. Most hot rodders wouldn't think twice about dropping some sort of generic small block Chevy under this Deluxe's hood. But it's infinitely more impressive when someone dares to be different, and the result is a '49 Plymouth street rod that actually carries its original 230 cubic inch flathead six. With that in mind, the inline mill is pretty far removed from stock, with a custom camshaft, a comprehensive bottom end rebuild and enough vintage speed equipment to open up a small museum. There's a finned and painted cylinder head from Edgy Speed Shop that perfectly matches a finned and painted air cleaner. Between that head and air cleaner, a pair of Stromberg 97 carburetors feed a coated Edmonds intake manifold. There's a cool Eddie Meyer fuel distribution block on the firewall and a matching aluminum oil filter, both retro-looking parts that seem like they were meant for this car. And modern upgrades include: a 12 volt electrical system that's complete with a polished alternator, modern Hi Temp Radio Suppression wires, a polished AC compressor, a set of Fenton exhaust headers that dump into a custom dual exhaust system, and a lot of great looking stainless hardware. Throw this Special up on a lift and you'll find an equally exceptional chassis that's full of wonderful details and flawless craftsmanship. The transmission is a 3-speed manual with an overdrive unit, so it cruises easily at modern highway speeds. There's a beefy Ford nine inch out back that's full of moderate 3.25 gears. The front suspension appears to be original, although the rear end uses a set of tube shocks that were probably not available in 1949. That beautiful exhaust system, which I've already referenced twice, truly is a work of modern art with professional welds and a polished stainless finish that'll probably look great forever. Remote cut-out valves open up a pair of dump tubes or direct flow through a set of vintage cylindrical mufflers for a mellow 1950s tone. The car's frame and floors have been bathed in a matching layer of Medium Blue Pearl paint, while all its running gear has been dipped in a coat of high-gloss black that really stands out. And the final detail is those too-cool-to-be-believed spinner hubcaps that steady hand-painted checker patterns inside of 15 inch Michelin wide whitewall radials. You're in for a special treat when you climb inside this custom. Simple and stock appearing, upscale materials and a subdued color combination make this cockpit something you'll show off every chance you get. The blue and crimson vinyl has been stitched up in a very 1950s pattern which is incredibly elegant without being flashy. Matching door panels retain classic Plymouth hardware and window frames while a set of dark blue carpets add formality and a custom-made headliner champion's simplistic style. Believe it or not, that's the original dashboard, but it now includes a trio of modern gauges from Classic Instruments in its original openings. That snazzy wood grain facade has been formed in a high class burled walnut pattern that would look right at home in an old school Bentley. The factory steering wheel has obviously been restored, and its satin blue finish is a cool spin on the shiny plastic that was original equipment. A powerful stereo system, which has been hidden in the dash, fuels a giant Kicker subwoofer and color-keyed CD changer, both of which are mounted in the trunk. And speaking of the trunk, you'll find that it's been upholstered to match the interior all the way down to its custom blue tire cover. Great cars come with lots of great documentation, and this is most definitely a great car. Our sale includes an original owner's manual, service certificate, heater system manual, radio manual, and other dealership brochures about getting the most out of your new Plymouth. There's also an early copy of "Rodding and Re-Styling" magazine from the late-40s or early-50s that shows a very similar Plymouth coupe on its cover. More specific to this Deluxe is the big pile of receipts and manuals for all its new components, as well as a huge album full of build photos and a magazine feature article from Europe. And we'll even throw in the first place trophy for Best Mild Hardtop 49-54 from the 2009 Detroit AutoRama. Given how cool this Plymouth is, I highly doubt you need any more convincing. But if you do, take your time to really look it over because I promise it'll grow on you. A seasoned street rodder could literally spend an afternoon crawling around this custom and still not see every trick and detail that has been thoughtfully incorporated into its build. If you're looking for a show stopping hot rod that features world class detailing and a vintage engine that'll knock everyone out, it simply doesn't get much better than this! I don\'t care what kind of car you\'re into, this 1949 cadillac Series 62 convertible is a big deal. Home of the first modern short-stroke V8, it ushered in a new era of performance without which the small block Chevy might never have been born. Of course, the fact that it\'s also one of the best-looking convertibles of the \'40s is only icing on the cake, making it truly as lovely to drive as it is to look at. GM fans will surely be happy to note that the burgundy paint on this \'49 is a correct shade of 1949 Cadillac Madeira Maroon . Tailfins were in their second year and they were a major hit with the car-buying public, and there are more than a few enthusiasts who regard the early P-51 inspired look as the finest of them all. The 1949 Cadillacs were only slightly changed from the 1948s, but since the big news was under the hood, Cadillac was still able to sell every car they could build that year. The restoration on this one is a few years old, but is holding up very nicely and still looks great cruising down the road or at a show. Panel fit is excellent and the doors close with a remarkable solid thunk that you just don\'t get today, and it\'s even more remarkable that this is a convertible, not a sedan. Chrome was a big deal in 1949, so the requisite pile of money was invested in bringing it back to new condition and it looks fantastic today. Nothing radical inside, either, just pure elegance. Pleated leather seats front and rear offer seating for six in a pinch, and make no mistake, this is a very big car. The band of light-colored trim that encircles the interior gives it a modern look, while the body-colored instrument panel again shows some aircraft influences that were popular after the war. A beautifully re-cast steering wheel with horn ring provides first-class control over the machine and yes, this is a Hydra-Matic car, which works well with the power windows, top, and even power seat, to provide a very luxurious environment. The original AM radio still lives in the dash and there\'s a full array of instruments below the oversized speedometer. The tan top folds quickly and easily, and the trunk is nicely finished with correct bound carpets and a full-sized spare tire. The 331 cubic inch OHV V8 in this Cadillac was truly revolutionary. 200 pounds lighter than the flathead it replaced, it made more power and torque and got better fuel economy. With its shorter stroke, it didn\'t mind revving and pulled the heavy luxury car around with real authority. Cadillac Blue engine paint, white script on the valve covers, and all the original accessories make for a nicely detailed engine bay that looks right. Now before you dismiss the early automatic transmission, take it for a drive. Remember that it has lower gearing in first and second to really rocket off the line and out back, there are lower 3.36 gears, making it a superlative highway cruiser. Honestly, if you want a late-40s Cadillac, a Hydra-Matic is the only way to go. It also sounds great with a single exhaust and modern 235/75/15 whitewall radials provide an exemplary ride with a vintage look. This is a very big deal car, and \'49 convertibles don\'t come on the market very often. This is the godfather of all performance cars, clothed in some of the most dramatic sheetmetal of the era. 1949 Chevrolet 5 window 3100 Pickup Truck This Auction is for my 1949 Chevy truck that has just had a full frame off restoration. I will describe everything front to back by systems. I will try my best to include all the parts that were used in the build. If you have any Questions feel free ask, and do not be shy, I love talking about the truck. Engine: 307 small block Chevy engine. I got this engine along with the truck, and had plans on doing a full rebuild on it until I started taking it down and noticed how clean it was internally. I then opted to refresh the engine top to bottom instead of a full rebuild. the New parts consist of oil pump, oil pan, all gaskets, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, intake manifold, power steering pump, All belts, Carburetor , air filter, distributor with built in coil, plugs, and wires. the valve covers were stripped down and repainted along with the engine block ect. It starts right up and runs great! Transmission: 2 speed powerglide transmission also came with the truck when I acquired it. the transmission has an aluminum case and like the engine was very clean inside. I changed the pan gasket, filter, and rear tail shaft seal. and added all new fresh fluid. It shifts very smoothly with no issues. Rear End: The rearend is a Gm 10 bolt rear out of a 1978 Pontiac trans am. it was stripped down and repainted with a new differential cover gasket and fresh gear oil. I am not quite sure what the gear ratio is but the truck rides and drives like a stock camaro from the early 80's. It is geared for normal road/highway driving. Brakes: The brake system is all new front to back including all new brake lines and hoses , front calipers, and pads rear wheel cylinders and shoes. the master cylinder and power brake booster are also new along with a new pedal assembly. the master cylinder is a duel bowl corvette style master which attaches to a new proportioning valve and feeds the new fluid through the new lines. I have parts for the parking brake assembly ,but the parking brake is currently not hooked up. Suspension: The front suspension of the truck is that of a 1978 Chevrolet camaro. The frame of the truck was professionally sub framed by fatman fabrication here in charlotte NC. So from the firewall forward the frame is that of the 78 camaro. this gives the truck a great drive quality with independent front suspension, and makes parts like ball joints, bushings, brakes ect. easy to acquire from you part store of choice. The suspension is all new with New shackle bushings , shocks, ball joints, control arm bushings, ect. The front springs were cut to lower the ride height by about 2''. Electrical System: The electrical system of this truck is 12V and has been fully wired New with a 13 circuit American auto wire harness. all the bulbs, switches in the truck are new along with the new alternator. New brake light switch, parking lights, tail lights, headlights, dash lights ect. The column in this truck is a tilt column out of a 70's Chevy with a new steering wheel with new horn contact, neutral safety switch, turn signal switch, ignition switch. The dash gauges in this truck consist of only 2 electrical gauges which are the volt meter and the fuel gauge. the old amp meter was converted into a volt meter with the use of the original amp meter plate with new decal and a gauge from a new sunpro volt meter. the fuel gauge is a new 12v fuel gauge from classic parts of america. no need to have any worries about an old electrical system with this truck. Exhaust System: The exhaust is true duel exhaust New from front to back with the use of stainless steel downpipes that feed into aluminized pipe that feeds into summit racing turbo mufflers that feed into flow master tailpipes. The only thing that was used was the engines original stock manifolds that were sandblasted and painted with a factory manifold grey high temp paint. Steering system: The steering system is all new with the previously mentioned steering wheel, rebuilt column, & power steering pump. along with new steering gearbox , hoses, and column to gearbox shaft and yokes. Cooling System: The cooling system in this truck is also all new which consists of a new duel core aluminum radiator with built in transmission cooler, water pump, heater hoses, rad hoses, 16''electrical fan, thermostats and temp gauge. Fuel System: The fuel system of this truck is all new which consists of new fuel filler cap and hoses, tank, sender, gas pedal assembly, gauge, pump, filters, carb, and fuel line which stainless braided hose with AN fittings. Interior: The interior is all fresh with used seat frame done up with all new springs, padding and vinyl upholstery, new sun visors, headliner, door panels, door handles, window cranks. the original glove box door has a few minor dings in the stainless, but I opted to keep it original because it still looks great. the speaker grill and ashtray are also original. it has a new glove box liner, cigar lighter, switches and knobs ect. the floor pans and firewall in this truck were all coated with spray in bed liner material for a clean original look without the use of carpet. I am missing and to this day trying to locate a inner stainless steel garnish molding for the driver's side door window. Exterior and sheet metal: This was a true nut and bolt frame off restoration. every panel, nut , bolt ect. was taken apart or taken off this truck and each piece got worked, painted , and then reassembled .The exterior consists of some original and some aftermarket parts. Original parts include Cab, doors, front fenders, rear fenders, running boards, splash aprons, and hood. the aftermarket parts consist of grille, front bumper, complete bed and roll pan. all painted with a 2 stage base/clear silver with the exception of the grill which is done in black and silver. The paint shines and shows excellently!! there are no dings or dents in the exterior but there are a few nicks in the paint which happened during assembly. these few nicks are all very minor and never looked upon by anyone viewing the vehicle and have been touched up to prevent the finish from further damage. I give the paint on this truck a 10/10 for driver quality and a 6/10 for show quality. although I am very proud to take this truck to any show or car cruise. Hardware: I would say that at least 90% of the hardware used for assembly is stainless steel nuts bolts washers clips ect. If it's not new stainless then it is zinc Glass and weather-strip: The glass in this truck consist of all new glass except the two original corner windows. all glass rubber and other wind lace and weather-stripping are new on this truck. Both doors have new inner rubber along with new door glass channels. wheels and Tires: The front and rear wheels are New chrome smoothie 15 inch wheels. the fronts are wrapped with 195x60x15 and the rear are wrapped with 235x70x15. The tires are new If you are in the market for an older 1947- 1953 Chevy truck with the ride quality of a 80's muscle car, do not pass up on this beautiful example of a modernized old truck.

Whether it's the fault of James Dean, Sam Barris or just stellar design, 49-51 Mercurys seem gifted with universal appeal that few classics possess. This first class Mercury Kustom is the recipient of a complete, frame-off restoration that combines epic paint with excellent design, a potent Chevy big block and a clean custom interior. With fully sorted mechanicals, the car easily navigates the line between awesome weekend warrior and show-stopping crowd pleaser. And if you're the kind of buyer who's searching for a stunning, old school masterpiece that features a roster of top-notch equipment, no hot rod offers more style for less money! BODYWORK/TRIM Officially baptized in to the Kustom world just a few years back, this slick sled has been carefully finessed and expertly finished to the absolute highest standards. The smooth surfaces that make up the car's sinister profile are entirely comprised of clean fiberglass that's been chopped, channeled and laboriously block-sanded. That lightweight shell is dressed in 10 coats of Porsche Basalt Metallic base that's been splashed with a hint of pearl, sealed in thick clear and lovingly buffed to a trophy-winning shine. And today, this Merc rolls as one excellent-looking custom that's completely devoid of filler, questionable seams, strange bulges or anything else that might demerit its otherwise superior construction. The styling of Mercury's second generation Eight was successful in both ending the monotony of warmed-over pre-war designs and differentiating the brand from its comparable Ford cousin: a trick that spelled BIG sales success. Those newfound sales made the car immensely popular with customizers, and in 1949 the first lead sled, built by Sam Barris, pioneered what would become hot rodding's definitive '50s custom. At the front of this clean sedan, a color-keyed DeSoto grille rides between a nosed hood, frenched tri-bar headlights and small LED parking lamps. Behind that hood, tinted and creased glass rides inside a smoothed cowl, a small mirror and shaved, electronically actuated doors. Beneath that glass, a simple, monochromatic profile showcases the car's classic Mercury lines. And at the back of that profile, a decked, electronically actuated trunk rides between small LED taillights. ENGINE Like it or not, sometimes it's good to break tradition. And breaking tradition is one thing that makes this Merc so impressive. Lift the car's domed hood and you'll find 454 cubic inches of big block muscle that, thanks to a sweet set of polished valve covers, does a great impression of Chevy's 502 cubic inch monster motor. At the top of the fully detailed mill, a polished, open-element air cleaner feeds a coated, 750cfm Edelbrock that's plumbed with braided fluid lines and a polished, canister-style filter. The resulting energy mixture makes its way from an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake to cast iron Chevrolet heads. When those heads flood the cylinders, a familiar points distributor sequences fire between a chrome-capped coil and loomed Taylor Thundervolt wires. Resultant gases are jettisoned through powder-coated, long-tube headers. The orange block's cooling is provided by a custom aluminum radiator that's fitted with chrome flex tubes, two SPAL puller fans and a sleek, fiberglass shroud. Charge comes courtesy of a polished Powermaster alternator that, along with a polished AC compressor and aluminum water pump, spins on an aesthetically pleasing March pulley system. And overall, the smooth, body-matched engine compartment is exceptionally clean, featuring details such as polished breathers, polished fluid tanks, polished dipsticks and a proven Wilwood master cylinder. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take a look under this incredible custom and you'll find a bent-tube Art Morrison skeleton that's been augmented with a series of excellent upgrades. Opposite the car's channeled and tubbed floors, a RideTech Shockwave suspension utilizes modern power rack-and-pinion steering to combine pleasant road manners with a killer stance. At the center of that suspension, a 2,500 RPM stall converter jerks a beefy 700R4 4-speed, which spins a familiar Ford 9-inch around 3.55 gears. At the sides of that awesome driveline, the aforementioned headers roll spent gases through large stainless pipes and throaty Magnaflow mufflers. At the corners of that exhaust, bright red calipers and 11-inch discs provide solid, predictable stops. And, on the outside of those discs, 20-inch DUBs spin 255/35 Mickey Thompson Street Comps in front of 275/40 Mickey Thompson Street Comps. INTERIOR Like its drivetrain and body, the car's supple interior is a completely custom creation that highlights technology while honoring heritage. 2-tone ultraleather seats, which are both soft and supportive, ride on clean gray carpet that's stretched between handsome aluminum sills. In front of those seats, a '49 Merc dash anchors Classic Instruments All American telemetry beside custom lettering. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers remote-controlled Pioneer audio and lighted Vintage Air twist knobs above small accessory switches and a classy Lokar shifter. Opposite that console, flamed side panels hang hidden courtesy lamps and modernist armrests in front of power-operated windows. Above those panels, a billet mirror leads a stitched headliner. In front of the driver, a polished and half-wrapped steering wheel laps a tilting column, a billet accelerator pedal and a cool, Mercury-branded brake pedal. And behind the blue-lit cockpit, a fully finished trunk reflects cool Mercury branding in a small, polished fuel filler. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIESA small book of build photosA copy of the car's shout out in the June, 2014 edition of Street Scene MagazineThree trophies This razor-sharp sled is one of the coolest cruisers on the planet! [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1950 Mercury Coupe Frame Off Built Led Sled 468 Dart V8 700R4 Vintage Air Year: 1950 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Burgundy Mileage: 2581 Transmission type: 4 Speed Automatic Engine: 468 V8 Interior color: Tan Vehicle info There's nothing like assuming the helm of a lights-out lead sled. Whether it's the fault of James Dean, Sam Barris or just stellar design, 49-51 Mercurys seem gifted with universal appeal that few classics possess. This first class Mercury Kustom is the recipient of a complete, frame-off restoration that combines excellent paint with epic metalwork, a potent Chevy big block and a clean custom interior. With fully-sorted mechanicals, the car easily navigates the line between awesome weekend warrior and show-stopping crowd pleaser. And if you're the kind of buyer who's searching for a stunning, all-steel masterpiece that features a roster of top notch equipment, no hot rod offers more style for less money! Officially baptized in to the Kustom world a little over thirty years ago, this slick sled was carefully finessed and expertly freshened to the absolute highest standards in the summer of 2011. At that point in its life, the car was a tired, small block resto-mod that had, fortunately, found its way to well-known car enthusiast Ron Meis. Meis began by working the body's contoured panels into buttery planes that'll maintain a solid faade for years to come. Those smooth surfaces make for a super clean profile that's been laboriously block-sanded and covered in a stunning coat of Corvette burgundy. That glossy paint stays vibrant thanks to a tough layer of clearcoat, which was thoroughly dried and carefully buffed to a trophy-winning shine. And today, the car sits as one excellent looking custom with no filler, no questionable seams, no bulges, and nothing else that would be any kind of demerit to its otherwise superior restoration. At the front of this clean coupe, a short grille hangs clear parking lamps between frenched headlights, a wraparound bumper and a nosed hood. Behind that hood, tinted, chrome-trimmed glass rides inside stainless wipers, traditional spotlights and a professionally chopped roof. At the sides of that roof, a shaved profile floats requisite fender skirts between small mirrors and faux side pipes. And behind those skirts, a second wraparound bumper reflects a shaved decklid and pure Mercury tail lights. Like it or not, sometimes it's good to break tradition. And breaking tradition is one thing that makes this Merc so impressive. Lift the car's domed hood and you'll find 468 cubic inches of big block Chevrolet muscle that, thanks to A&A Restoration in Rapid City, South Dakota, creates roughly 600 horsepower! At the top of that monster mill, air flows from a K&N X-Stream-style filter element in to a big Holley 4-barrel that's piped with braided fluid lines and a simple Holley pressure gauge. The resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a Weiand aluminum intake to Dart Pro1 heads that are topped with chrome, "CHEVROLET" branded valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, a quality MSD distributor sequences fire between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and tube-loomed Taylor plug wires. Resultant gases are jettisoned through ceramic-coated Sanderson block hugger headers. The black block's cooling is provided by a beefy radiator that's fitted with a shrouded Cooling Components puller fan. Charging comes courtesy of a polished alternator that, along with a polished AC compressor, spins on an aesthetically pleasing Zoops pulley system. And overall, the smooth, body-matched engine compartment is exceptionally clean, featuring details such as polished breathers, a polished overflow tank, polished water tubes and a prominent MQQN Equipment temperature gauge. Take a look under this all-steel custom and you'll find a traditional Ford skeleton that's been augmented with a series of excellent upgrades. At the front of that skeleton, a nice mix of Fat Man and Heidts suspension components makes good use of power rack-and-pinion steering. At the back of that skeleton, simple traction bars and proven lowering blocks combine strength with stance. At the center of that chassis, a line locking 700R4 4-speed spins a familiar Ford 9-inch around 3.70 gears and Moser 31-spline axles. At the sides of that awesome driveline, the aforementioned headers roll spent gases through large stainless pipes and throaty Flowmaster mufflers. At the corners of that exhaust system, power disc brakes provide solid, predictable stops. On the outside of those discs, painted and stainless-capped steelies spin 215/75R15 Coker Classic wide whitewalls. Naturally, items like fresh hoses, clean lines and a dual-reservoir master cylinder round out a sound cast of supporting ancillaries. And, in case you like to play with pressure, most of the car's original air ride system is present and fully wired. Like its engine, the car's supple leather interior was fitted during its 2011 freshening. Modern, power seats, which are both soft and supportive, ride on clean tan carpet that's protected by piped and color-keyed floor mats. In front of those seats, a tan dash anchors rebuilt gauges above hardware for modern climate control. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers an MP3-compatible VBA head unit and Vintage Air twist knobs between small courtesy lamps and VBA speakers. Opposite that console, custom side panels hang subtle trim and broad armrests between seamless quarter speakers and billet door hardware. Above those panels, a custom headliner flows through a billet Center High Mount Stop Lamp to an intricately detailed package tray. In front of the driver, an Ididit tilt steering column spins a Lecarra-branded wheel around a stylish billet shifter. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features ample room for luggage. The sale of this exclusive Merc includes restoration receipts and component manuals. This razor-sharp sled is one of the coolest cruisers on the planet! And at only $79,900, it isn't just a fully restored classic that's attainable for a fraction of its build cost; it's a unique hot rod that sets itself apart from a virtual sea of chopped, diced, smothered and covered street rods. If you're ready to own the very definition of American cool, don't miss out on this incredible Mercury Kustom! The ultimate lead sled, the archetype, the one that everyone wants, this 1950 Mercury Monterey coupe defines the breed. Frenched, louvered, lake pipes, fender skirts, it has all the traditional custom styling cues, all wrapped in a gorgeous candy paint job that ideally suits the long, low custom. Paired with the bulletproof reliability of a small block Chevy and a tasteful interior, this is a lead sled that\'s very easy to love. This car could have been the prototype for every Mercury lead sled built, incorporating some of the most traditional modifications and a few tasteful touches that make it unique. The list of body mods is extensive, ranging from a nosed and decked hood punched full of louvers, to the frenched headlights, to the custom grille, and stretching back to the nicely faired-in lake pipes and shaved door handles. Of course, classic accessories like the dual spotlights and blue dot taillights make it look period-perfect, and the smoothie look is quite evident from any angle. The Raspberry Pearl paint glows from within and has a sugary look that makes this car insanely appealing. Big chrome bumpers offset all that luscious paint with a big of flash, plus the stainless side trim that makes this car look long and low. Fender skirts are signed with the car\'s \"Wild Thing\" name, and there are expertly done pinstripes in all the usual spots. Handsome two-tone leather seats are an upscale contrast to the high-visibility exterior, and the overstuffed seats mean this is a fantastic road trip car. With a 1949 Mercury dashboard, it has a classic look, nicely rendered in satin gray to match the upholstery. The instruments are a combination of original speedometer and aftermarket auxiliary gauges that work rather well together and you\'ll note the knobs have all been replaced with glass beads for a neat custom look. A tilt steering column carries a woodgrained Grant GT steering wheel and that vintage-looking shifter is connected to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. Under-dash A/C uses modern components and R134a refrigerant to deliver contemporary performance and there\'s a Sony AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo in the center of the dash. Red under-dash lighting gives it a cool glow at night, and the trunk is neatly finished with burgundy carpets and a matching fifth wheel. For motivation, this one uses a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 with the usual upgrades. There\'s a mild performance cam inside so the idle sounds suitable for a custom, a Weiand intake is fed by an Edelbrock intake and there\'s a serpentine belt drive on the front of the engine for easy maintenance. It\'s based on a 4-bolt main block, so it\'s sturdy, and with a few chrome bits the engine bay is dressed quite nicely for a custom. The ram\'s horn exhaust manifolds feed a custom dual exhaust system with Flowmasters, so it sounds wicked even just cruising the fairground, and with air shocks out back, you can adjust the ride height when you have passengers in the back seat, so it always looks and sits right. The rear end is out of a 1969 Camaro, so it\'ll handle anything the small block dishes out. 15-inch chrome steelies with baby moon hubcaps are the ideal period custom wheel and they carry BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall radials, as you\'d expect. A lot of customs look great but don\'t drive very well, but this Mercury truly runs as well as it looks. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Detroit Autorama First Place Special Deluxe Year: 1949 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Blue Mileage: 1961 Transmission type: 3 Speed Manual Engine: 230 I6 Interior color: Blue Vehicle info This extremely slick Plymouth Special Deluxe is one of those cars that takes a lot of time to truly appreciate. A $1000.00 deposit via PayPal is due within 24 hours of the auction close ... NO EXCEPTIONS. If you have ZERO feedback on eBay, please call or email us to request our authority to bid on our vehicles. We do not release our reserve prices, as this would be unfair to the other bidders, so please don't ask! Each and every one of these cars is listed on eBay, but only one sale, on average per month, actually occurs on eBay. If you see a car you like, don't wait! Call us! When you see it disappear from eBay, it means that it was sold by other means. Because we advertise heavily in other mediums, we reserve the right to cancel any eBay listing at any time. If you would like to make a sales visit or arrange an inspection, we would be happy to schedule a personal appointment with either yourself or your representative. To do so, contact Frank Carroll at (704)596-5211 or (440)413-7118. Frank's email address is: [email protected]. For those of you who need to fly in, we can provide transportation to and from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. We can also recommend accommodations within a short distance of our facility. RK Motors takes pride in delivering road-ready cars to our customers. That's why every car we sell comes with the assurance of our Seal of Approval process - a comprehensive inspection performed by our sister company, the RKM Performance Center. From major visual defects to basic functionality issues, our Seal of Approval checklist covers the basics so you can feel confident about your purchase. For international buyers, note that we've shipped cars to collectors and classic car fans world-wide for years. We can provide you with a firm quote for transport to any shipping port in the world in a sealed container and handle the process for you from start to finish. Our domestic and international ground transport solutions are enclosed only. If you wish to use an open carrier, you will need to arrange that. Our Transportation Manager, Anthony Conner, stands ready to help you with your transport & shipping needs. Anthony can be reached at: [email protected]. A common question we receive is: "do you accept trades"? We do accept trades, but will only consider #1 or #2 condition vehicles. If you would like us to review a trade, please send recent, high resolution pictures of the entire car, including the underside. Also send a detailed description which includes all specifications, facts, figures, history and documentation present with the car. Lastly, give us a clear idea of what you are seeking in trade value. If you are a MyClassicGarage user, you can send us an Evaluation file for review. Our MCG virtual garage name is: RK Motors Charlotte. Email information and pictures on your trade directly to Frank Carroll. Frank's email address is: [email protected].
