Top-down fun doesn\'t get much more practical than this 1964 Ford Falcon convertible. Restored several years ago, it remains in great shape to drive and enjoy, and with V8 Mustang DNA running through its veins (or, more accurately, the Mustang has Falcon roots), it\'s a lot of fun to drive. There\'s more invested in the restoration than this sticker price shows, and as a result you\'re getting a fully sorted, reliable hobby car with exactly zero needs. The 1964 Falcon got a redesign, and it looks particularly handsome in Raven Black, as on this lovely little ragtop (code A Raven Black is the car\'s original color). The earlier, softer, rounded Falcon got squared-off contours that made it look like its big brother the Galaxie, and the striking trim insert on the sides gives the illusion of greater size. With a paint job that is only a few years old and applied over a very straight, original body, there\'s little to fault with this convertible, even in black. Gaps are remarkably good, and the whole car fits together in a way that belies its price tag. There\'s plenty of brightwork, including beautiful chrome bumpers, a relatively intricate grille, and the side trim that remains in excellent condition. During the restoration, any part that needed to be replaced received an NOS part, which makes for a highly accurate restoration. Nice! That interior is code 65 Red Crush Vinyl, and the bright red upholstery looks spectacular with the shiny black body, and produces a classic contrast that gives the Falcon an upscale look that always attracts attention. The \'64 Falcon also received an all-new dashboard design, which included a then-fashionable strip-type speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges in round pods. The red finish carries into the interior on the doors and lower dash, and the combination is actually quite pleasing, giving the little car a bright, upbeat look. The original AM radio remains in the dash and there\'s a consolette between the seats that adds some practicality, but that\'s about it for amenities in the economical Falcon. However, there is a new power convertible top that moves effortlessly and stows neatly under a matching vinyl boot. The engine is a neat 260 cubic inch V8, which is smooth and torquey, making a fairly robust 164 horsepower. But it\'s important to remember that a similar engine lived in early Mustangs, and both cars were a pleasure to drive in the 1960s. Finished in correct black engine enamel with bright Ford Blue valve covers and air cleaner, it\'s got a highly detailed stock look, and the overall effect is that someone was sweating the details when this one went back together. The engine and 2-speed automatic transmission were actually rebuilt just a few years ago, and it runs well, moving the little car with aplomb and pulling down surprisingly decent fuel mileage as well, even with 3.25 gears out back. The chassis is basically all original and in good shape, with power steering and drum brakes that work remarkably well given the Falcon\'s light weight. It rides on a set of matching steel wheels with correct wire wheel covers and a new set of 195/75/14 radials that look period-appropriate in the Falcon\'s wheel wells. If you\'re looking for an fun way to enjoy the summer, this high-quality Falcon ragtop is it. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. When Ford executives decided to move forward with production of the Mustang, they used the Ford Falcon as the foundation for what would soon be one of the most popular cars in American history. This 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint represents a stepping stone in the birth of the pony car class with a bit of restomod, muscle car character. Originally leaving the assembly plant in a Mint Green lacquer, this Falcon now wears a vivid coat red and it looks great! Walking around the car it\'s hard to find any concerning qualities in the paint, it\'s a finish that you can show with confidence. There is little to no pitting on the chrome bumpers that are mounted at the front and rear. They have clear reflections and appear to be new. A cool feature on the \'64 Falcons is the stainless trim that spans the length of the body in a horizontal U-shape fashion, and the trim that is present on this car is clean and straight. It meets a stylish, vertically oriented trim piece that adds a sporty touch. \'Sprint\' badges have been added, the rear end lifted, and that muscular stance sits on staggered 14\'\' rally II style wheels. Inside, the original turquoise interior has been replaced with clean black vinyl that covers front bucket seats and a rear bench seat. Those seats sit on fresh black carpet with floor mats up front and in the rear that appears new with very little wear. In between the front buckets is a center console that provides a comfortable armrest with storage underneath. Both door panels look very good with clean trim and glossy vinyl for an appealing look. The straight dash is very clean and hosts factory instrumentation with an AM radio and controls for the heat/defrost. Topping things off is a 3-spoke wood grain steering wheel that is comfortable to grip. Overall, the interior appears to be a very fresh and suggests a recent restoration. Pull the latch to release the hood and it will eagerly spring open for you to show a clean engine bay that features a 302 cubic inch V8. Feeding air and fuel to that engine is a chrome \'Ford Motorsport\' branded air cleaner, a Holley 4 barrel carburetor, and an Edelbrock Torker 289 intake manifold. Sparks are provided by Accel plug wires, while spent gasses travel out a dual exhaust system that sings a muscular and throaty tune when you fire this engine to life. Transferring power to the Ford 9\'\' rear end is a nice addition of a Borg Warner 5-speed manual transmission with 185/70/14 front and 235/60/14 rear Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS radials putting the power to the ground. This is a great car to pick up as a solid cruiser and appears to have seen a restoration sometime in the recent past. When you power a 1964 Falcon with a strong V8, and a smooth shifting 5-speed, the fun factor sky rockets, and this one aims to please with good looks, 302 power, and a manually shifted gear box. Cars like this don\'t last long. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom. For more information, please call (704) 598-2130 or toll free (866) 542-8392. You hear about California cars all the time, but are they really all that special? Have a closer look at this handsome 1964 Ford Falcon hardtop and maybe you\'ll see why west coast cars are so highly sought. With a rare factory color combination and a chassis so clean you can still see the factory markings, there\'s no doubt that growing up on the Pacific coast makes this one special. Wouldn\'t it be cool if affordable transportation still looked this cool today? Just because the Falcon was affordable didn\'t mean that they skimped in the styling department, giving it angular lines and a sweeping bit of trim that was reminiscent of its bigger, more expensive siblings. Finished in its correct code M Wimbledon White, this ultra-clean Falcon shows off straight body panels that have never been forced to suffer through harsh winter weather. The doors fit in a way that would make cars costing three times as much envious, and the shine is the result of high-quality materials and careful workmanship. It\'s not perfect, but for a car that\'s this affordable, it\'s quite impressive. All the original trim is in place, including the cool hood ornament and interesting stamped steel grille with elements that appear to float. The chrome bumpers are so shiny they have to be brand new, because not even California chrome looked that good in 1964. In addition, all the emblems, lettering, and other badging are new, giving this little hardtop a very polished look. Perhaps this car\'s most unusual feature, the beautiful Palomino bucket seat interior shows off California sensibilities and impressive style. Almost everything inside the car is new, including the bucket seats, which also feature new foam underneath, and the nicely styled door panels. Again, this car doesn\'t look like it was Ford\'s low-cost entry, especially not with a center console and plush carpets on the floor. The steering wheel is original and in good condition, notable only because it\'s not quite as nice as everything else, but when you have good original parts, it\'s important to keep them intact. The instruments cover only the basics, but the markings are clear and bright, and the factory AM radio still hangs out in the center of the dash. Open the trunk and you\'ll find a correct reproduction mat and a full-sized spare with matching cover. As far as six-cylinder Falcons go, this one is a big block, offering a T-code 200 cubic inch inline-six. Now before you dismiss it, please take it for a drive, because the torquey engine is the perfect match for the lightweight Falcon. It was rebuilt a few years ago and looks great wearing bright Ford Blue paint on the block and original air cleaner, which also carries a reproduction decal. All the ancillary components are recent, too, giving the engine bay a highly detailed look. Handling remains nimble, especially with power steering and fresh suspension components, and the brakes have been fully rebuilt so it stops confidently. And as I mentioned, the undercarriage is highly original, simply because the car didn\'t need a frame-off restoration. Just look at how clean everything is; THAT\'s what California living gets you. Brand new black Coys wheels offer awesome contrast to the white paint and wear right-sized 195/65/14 radials. Still offering a lot of bang for the buck, this neat Falcon has a great pedigree and an awesome look. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Pace Car 1 of 1 Holman Moody Modified Mustang Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car Year: 1964 1/2 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: White Mileage: 3376 Transmission type: 4 Speed Manual Engine: 289 V8 Interior color: Blue Vehicle info No matter how impressive a specific collector car is, there's no such thing as a perfect investment. The very nature of acquiring gains via equity is inherently risky depending on the factors and history affecting an asset. With that in mind, the idea is to find a classic which minimizes risk as much as possible. From an investment mindset, low risk is the major selling point of this 1 of 1 1964.5 Mustang. Never mind the fact that the car was assembled during the first hour of Mustang production. The fact that the car was 1 of 3 convertibles sent to Holman Moody for major modifications and subsequent pace car duty is beside the point. Just because the car was the only Ford Mustang to pace the 1964 Indianapolis 500 and, in the process, became the most modeled Ford in history doesn't mean all risk is moot. And, just because the car is a fanatically documented piece of automobilia that was driven by Ford Motor Company heir Benson Ford doesn't make it a risk-less investment. No, what matters most is that the combination of these monumental milestones provides potential buyers with one of the safest and most secure automotive assets on the planet. If you're shopping for a sure-fire winner, this, "the most significant historic Mustang in the world", should be the FIRST classic you're willing to put money on! "The most significant historic Mustang in the world" is a tall claim but, once you hear this convertible's incredible story, you'll whole-heartedly agree. In 1964, Lee Iacocca was preparing a massive marketing blitz for Ford's newly revealed pony car. Since the company's Falcon compact had already secured pace car duties for the 1964 Indy 500, Iacocca made his newest muse a last minute substitution. During the first hour of Mustang production, three convertibles were assembled with a combination of Falcon and 1963-coded Ford parts. And, as soon as those cars rolled off the Dearborn assembly line, they were shipped to legendary Charlotte tuner Holman Moody. In order to pace 'the great race' the cars needed to safely travel 140 miles per hour. So, the first thing Holman Moody did was, with Ford's blessing, replace the cars' stock 260 powerplants with detuned 289s that were being developed for the GT40 Le Mans racer. Next came a lowered and stiffened suspension. And finally, chrome marine handles were, along with custom flag stanchions, added for both form and function. Unfortunately, Iacocca's grand but hasty plan encountered one major problem: Holman Moody only had time to complete two of the cars. When this Mustang and its counterpart were shipped to Indy, Mustang number three, being essentially a prototype, was scrapped. And when the two completed cars arrived at the brickyard, one immediately experienced mechanical failure. That meant the convertible you see here is the sole Mustang to, at the hands of Benson Ford, pace the 1964 Indianapolis 500. After a big day of speed and photo ops, the drop-top was unceremoniously returned to Ford. Ford, ever the supporter of motorsports, passed it to Florida's Sebring International Raceway. Sebring made good use of the Mustang as a parade car and driver loaner for a solid 11 seasons. Then, in 1974, this significant piece of Dearborn history was locked in a raceway storage facility and all but forgotten. Fast forward to the early 90s when a Mustang Club of America official learned that a true gem of Mustang history had been stored roughly 120 miles from his house for almost 20 years. After talks with the owner of the track, he became the first, and only, private owner of the car. And, circa 1991, he began a fully documented, NOS restoration that would eventually earn the convertible a perfect score in MCA's exclusive Thoroughbred Class. As far as labor was concerned, the restoration wasn't too difficult, as the car was incredibly solid when purchased. In fact, 95% of its parts, some of them one-of-a-kind originals, were reconditioned and bolted right back up using original and NOS hardware. And the 5% that couldn't be reused was carefully replaced with either NOS or completely custom components. In the final phase of the project, the car's all-original body and frame were walnut-blasted to remove long-dead pigment. And correct, single-stage Ford Fleet White was laid under a metallic blue stripe, Indy tags and authentic pace car decals. It should be pretty obvious by now that this classic is all about sweating the details. And, sporting a look that's 100% true to how it rolled around the brickyard, the car presents a finished, high quality appearance which goes far beyond nice paint. At the front its solid body, a bulls eye grille hangs a rechromed horse emblem between NOS headlights, rechromed parking lamps and an original, rechromed bumper. At the top of that grille, original '63 and '64-coded glass rides between original wipers, rechromed trim and a never-folded, NOS canvas roof. At the sides of that glass, traditionally sculpted sheetmetal lays the groundwork for stainless cove trim, patriotic Mustang emblems and old school door handles. And at the back of that sheetmetal, peaked fenders and a second rechromed bumper frame rechromed tail lights, a highly detailed fuel filler and custom-reproduced stanchions. Developed for the GT40 campaign, labeled "experimental" and, as far as anyone knows, the only factory-installed Mustang mill of its kind, this convertible's 450 horsepower V8 is a literal fairy-tale of Ford performance. At the top of the balanced, blueprinted and fully de-burred block, a gold, correctly decaled air cleaner feeds wind in to a correct Autolite 4-barrel that's clamped onto fresh steel fluid lines. At the base of that carburetor, a cast iron Ford intake rides between ported and polished Hi-Po heads, which are capped with bright gold valve covers. Below those heads, forged pistons and a drop forged crank combine with solid lifters and a C3 cam to create stout 10.5 to 1 compression. At the front of that cam, a reliable points distributor sequences fire through NOS, date-correct plug wires, which snake around correct Fairlane exhaust manifolds. And at the leading edge of those manifolds, NOS V-belts spin correct ancillaries behind a correct Galaxie radiator. Aesthetically, the jet black small block sits in a completely restored engine bay which features factory decals and smooth, Satin Black paint. And nice pieces like NOS plugs, an actual 'tar top' battery and tri-angulated, Holman Moody-installed bracing provide unmatched authenticity. That engine would certainly achieve the speeds required to pace Indy, but could the car's factory chassis efficiently apply all its power to the ground? The pros at Holman Moody seemed to think so, as long as they made a few small mods. Trot this Mustang to a lift and you'll find original, correctly oversprayed floors that are highlighted by factory decals, correct paint marks and a sprinkling of performance hardware. Behind the hot 289, an "experimental" Toploader 4-speed, which wears a familiar C3 bellhousing, turns a narrowed '59 Galaxie limited-slip around 3.25 gears. At the ends of the car, a fully restored suspension employs a larger sway bar, shortened coils, de-arched leafs and original, mismatched Koni shocks. At the corners of the car, heavy duty, Holman Moody-tweaked drums provide firm, fade-free stops. Stomp the 'go pedal' and the aforementioned manifolds hurl spent gases in to an NOS, resonator-free exhaust system that screams through a date-coded cross-flow muffler. Power meets the pavement thanks to painted steel wheels, which spin NOS 7.75-14 Firestone 500 goldlines around faux stainless knock-offs. And everything under this Ford, from its steel fuel tank to its road race oil pan, is clean, correct and ready to show! Open this incredible time capsule's doors and you'll find a Blue, Standard interior that's clean, functional and attractive. The car's factory bench and bucket seats wear NOS covers between correct red lap belts. In front of those seats, a correctly painted dash hangs a full assortment of rebuilt gauges above a correct Motorola 2-way radio. Below that dash, a stylish chrome shifter rides on NOS carpet that's framed by a correct '63 Falcon clutch pedal and original door sills. Opposite that shifter, correctly painted side panels seat correct red armrests between chrome door handles, chrome window cranks and marine grab handles thoughtfully fitted by Holman Moody. Above those panels, a correctly decaled mirror and factory power top frame a third marine grab handle. In front of the driver, a white steering wheel twists around a traditional Mustang centerpiece. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a fifth Firestone 500 goldline. Featured in countless automotive publications, and recently appraised at $1.25 million by a museum curator, this exclusive Ford has plenty of easily accessible provenance. In the days before the Mustang and before the term \"muscle car\" had even been coined, cars like this 1964 Ford Fairlane hardtop were the go-to choices for the guy who liked having fun behind the wheel. Combining classic Ford looks with a snarky 289 cubic inch V8, it\'s a fun, affordable way to enjoy traditional rear-wheel-drive performance with a Blue Oval flavor. Positioned somewhere between the Falcon and the Galaxie, the Fairlane has just the right proportions: big enough to be comfortable but not so big that it dampens performance. Finished in traditional Wimbledon White, it has a look that makes every old-school racer think twice before giving it a go at the local track. Next to the convertible, the hardtop is by far the most desirable body style and the combination of formality and performance is quite appealing. The finish is extremely nice, particularly at this price, with a great gloss and straight bodywork that strongly suggests this car has not been abused or wrecked. The white paint is just the right shade, not quite refrigerator white but not cream, either, and with all the factory brightwork still in place, it looks like it should cost thousands more than it does. In fact, much of the chrome and trim has been recently replaced or restored, so it shows well. The basic black interior was standard issue in the Fairlane, and for guys more interested in going fast, the accommodations were of little consideration. Therefore the original front bench remains in place, now covered with a reproduction seat cover that has sharply defined pleats and silver piping for just a little contrast. The fat wood-rimmed steering wheel is the most notable modification to the interior, but the modern A/C unit disguised as a period under-dash accessory is a very nice touch. The white-faced gauges are original and in decent shape, proving once again that white gauges are far from a recent invention. The factory-issued AM radio is long gone, replaced more recently by an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit, which powers a set of 6x9 speakers on the rear package shelf. The carpets, door panels, and headliner are in excellent condition, offering additional proof that someone invested in this car all out of proportion to its asking price. Even the trunk is nicely upholstered in black carpet rather than the basic rubber mat. It would be a mistake to underestimate Ford\'s muscular 289, because in the relatively lightweight Fairlane, performance is impressive. An Edelbrock intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor surely add some ponies to the final count, and upgrades like an alternator and power steering make it reliable and comfortable enough to drive every day. Other smart upgrades include front disc brakes, a big sway bar, and a new dual exhaust system that sounds stock until you really stomp the loud pedal. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission and sturdy 8-inch rear end with 3.00 gears inside (at least according to the door tag) mean that it\'s equally happy in traffic or on the highway. The undercarriage is surprisingly tidy for a car in this price range and the lowered front end gives it just a bit of an attitude. Stock steel wheels with wire wheel covers are fitted with 215/70/14 white-letter radials that hint at the performance awaiting inside. A very neat old Ford with a lot of performance for not a lot of cash. If you\'re looking for fun on a budget that\'s not like everyone else\'s fun on a budget, then this Fairlane deserves a closer look. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. With a subtle color combination, an appealing black interior, and a strong V8 drivetrain, it's a hobby car you can enjoy without guilt. The idea of the small car isn't a new one, and even upscale Mercury was getting in on the act with the Comet. It offers styling cues taken from the full-sized machines sitting next to it in the showroom, but thanks to compact proportions, it was easy to drive and remarkably quick when equipped with a V8 engine. This one shows good straight bodywork thanks to a lifetime in the south, and while the color is subtle, this one gets all its attention simply by being unusual. Dramatically carved sheetmetal topped by tiny fins that were the '50s last gasp give it a lot of visual interest, and are actually helped by the subtle paint. Chrome and trim are quite good, and even on this budget classic Comet, there's quite a bit of it, including the big bumpers and ornate grille up front. The stainless strip running the length of the body and two trios of taillight lenses give the Comet a lot of visual pizzazz that make it look more expensive. The attractive black interior is another way in which the Comet looks like it should cost way more than it does. One look at the tasteful black vinyl with its square stitching instantly reminds you of the other more expensive cars in the Mercury lineup, and that's completely on purpose. Matching door panels are remarkably stylish for a basic car, with about only the armrest showing age after nearly 50 years of elbows resting on it. The instrument panel is a handsome and functional design that includes wood appliques for warmth and to match the woodgrained steering wheel. The 3-speed manual transmission with column shift makes the Caliente feel quick around town and feels more involving for the driver. Tidy carpets, a taut headliner, and an accessory AM/FM radio under the dash, it certainly doesn't feel like Mercury's lowest-priced car that year. Even the trunk is nicely finished and comes complete with a full-sized spare and jack assembly. Ford's trusty 302 cubic inch V8 fits neatly with the Comet's economy-based mission. It's a 1968 engine, but thanks to the interchangeability of the small block engines, it slots right in without modifications. It transforms the lightweight Mercury and you'll recall that the 1965 Mustang was based on this same platform. Ford Blue on the engine itself makes the machinery stand out against the satin black engine bay, and while it's not yet detailed for show, it does have a factory look that helps it blend with the engine bay. It starts easily and has a bit of a muscular voice thanks to a brand new exhaust system. With highway-friendly gears out back, the stout V8 pulls the car around with aplomb and might even make it a bit of a sleeper. Original steel wheels with hubcaps and 195/75/14 whitewall radials certainly help with that impression. Unusual yet eminently practical for today's times, this Comet is a great entry-level hobby car that won't cost you much now or down the road. BODY STYLE : Hardtop TRANSMISSION: 5 Speed Manual EXTERIOR COLOR: ODOMETER READING: 11178 INTERIOR COLOR : VEHICLE FEATURES & OPTIONS AM Radio, Defrost, Heat, Vinyl Interior SELLER REMARKS When Ford executives decided to move forward with production of the Mustang, they used the Ford Falcon as the foundation for what would soon be one of the most popular cars in American history. This 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint represents a stepping stone in the birth of the pony car class with a bit of restomod, muscle car character. Originally leaving the assembly plant in a Mint Green lacquer, this Falcon now wears a vivid coat red and it looks great! Walking around the car it's hard to find any concerning qualities in the paint, it's a finish that you can show with confidence. There is little to no pitting on the chrome bumpers that are mounted at the front and rear. They have clear reflections and appear to be new. A cool feature on the '64 Falcons is the stainless trim that spans the length of the body in a horizontal U-shape fashion, and the trim that is present on this car is clean and straight. It meets a stylish, vertically oriented trim piece that adds a sporty touch. 'Sprint' badges have been added, the rear end lifted, and that muscular stance sits on staggered 14'' rally II style wheels. Feeding air and fuel to that engine is a chrome 'Ford Motorsport' branded air cleaner, a Holley 4 barrel carburetor, and an Edelbrock Torker 289 intake manifold. Sparks are provided by Accel plug wires, while spent gasses travel out a dual exhaust system that sings a muscular and throaty tune when you fire this engine to life. Transferring power to the Ford 9'' rear end is a nice addition of a Borg Warner 5-speed manual transmission with 185/70/14 front and 235/60/14 rear Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS radials putting the power to the ground. Cars like this don't last long.
