Our 1934 Ford “Contractors Special” is powered by its original flathead V8 engine. This pre-war work-horse was in regular service through the late 1970’s. Mr. Thomas Lockwood of Saw Mill Ridge Company, commissioned the restoration and by the early 1980’s, the truck was used mainly for show, display and parades. These great trucks were relied upon heavily during the depression and in the years prior to World War II. They could always be found at WPA job sites, military installations and were considered a staple of private industry. Strong, reliable and durable, these trucks reflected the attitude of the men and women who saw our country through some very tough times. The Ford flathead V8 was introduced in 1932. It’s considered to be one of Ford Motor Company’s greatest achievements. It’s the first independently designed and constructed V8 engine that was deemed both affordable and suitable for a variety of applications. In addition to the Ford flathead V8, these special trucks featured a 4 speed transmission, heavy duty frame/chassis and the legendary Garwood dump body. The low side dump body on our truck is best known as a mason body dump. The GarWood dump body was rightfully considered the best of the best. The body was designed and produced by GarWood industries. The firm was founded by famous inventor and power boat builder/racer Garfield “Gar” Wood. Many a flathead Ford V8 found their way into the magnificent mahogany boats designed and crafted at GarWood Industries. Our 1934 Ford dump truck runs and drives great. The yellow dump body works perfectly, complimenting the cab color to make this truck appealing in a traditional sense. We’ve priced our truck at $26,990.00 plus tax, tags and processing. Dual Battery shut off switch is located between the cab and bed, passenger side. (2 batteries can be switched, if desired). Comments: The Ford Model AA had the same cab as the ½ ton Model A pickup, but with a heavier & larger frame. The previous owner had the truck professionally restored & modernized, and installed a newly re-built chevy 350 V8 in 1999. The previous owner stated the pickup had always been garaged, never driven in wet weather, and had only been dusted and waxed, and never washed with water. I purchased the truck in 2005, and further improved it in 2007 by adding a new polished stainless steel tilt steering column, polished stainless steering shaft, and Juliano’s banjo steering wheel, replaced the rear fiberglass fenders with new steel fenders and new full length steel running boards and apron. I had the bed shortened to improve the overall proportions, re-placed the front bumper with all new stainless steel parts and replaced the headlight bar with a lowered stainless steel bar from Sacramento Vintage Ford. I added a billet aluminum remote master brake cylinder reservoir for easy access, and added a flip up license plate assembly to hide the trailer hitch. During my ownership from 2005 to now, the pickup has been kept garaged and has only been driven in good weather, and has never been washed with a water hose. There is no rust. 1931 Ford truck cabs are very tight on leg room. The previous owner put in very low seats, which makes the leg room even tighter. It was my intent to install higher seats for more leg room. I have developed seat profile drawings for this purpose, which will go with the truck. The cab should be sound & heat insulated, and the carpets need to be replaced. The electric cooling fan thermostat is not working and needs to be replaced. Fan can be turned on with a pull switch under the dash.

[email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1931 Ford Coupe Frame Off Built Steel Coupe 454 Dual Quad TH400 Ford 9" Year: 1931 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Black Mileage: 3 Transmission type: 3 Speed Automatic Engine: 454 V8 Interior color: Black Vehicle info There's a faction of hot-rodders that think the scene has gone soft. Looking around at the sea of $30k paint jobs and modern fuel injected engines that inhabit every show, it's easy to see where they're coming from. The days of junkyard swaps and home brewed speed parts are definitely hanging on by a thread. That's why it's refreshing to see cars like this '31 Ford Coupe roll into our showroom. There's no air ride or sophisticated...well...anything. It's the type of car that harkens back to when hot rods were built in backyards by guys who simply liked to work on cars. With a chopped and channeled all-steel body, a big block V8 and tons of old school swagger, this car gets back to the basics without sacrificing build quality or functionality. If that sounds like your kind of scene, give this '31 a closer look. Approaching the car, it's difficult to not be taken with its low sleek profile. To achieve these new dimensions, an actual all steel '31 Ford body was sourced then chopped down a whopping six inches. To get the body a little closer to the earth, it was then channeled four inches over the framerails . Once the body work was complete, the Ford was shot with a coat of glossy black paint. The paintwork can be questionable on a lot of traditional rods but this one is first rate all the way. Reflections are straight and there are no major imperfections visible. That slick paintwork is accented by a plethora of expertly applied red and white traditional pin striping. Featured on the headlight buckets, grille shell, cowl, roof and below the trunk lid, the striping takes the cars attitude to the next level. Obviously there isn't going to be a lot of trim on this car, so let's start with what has been shaved or removed entirely. Fenders, hood, door handles, trunk handle, the original taillights and all of the original glass have all been sacrificed in the name of the clean look. If the glass part raised an eyebrow, don't worry. The main pieces (windshield and rear windows) have been replaced with Lexan. There are no side windows anymore but we can guarantee you won't miss them. Up front, a custom grille sits between two large round headlights whose wiring is concealed by snake skin patterned wiring loom. Above the windshield, a body-colored visor keeps out the sun while offering yet another traditional styling cues. Out back, taillights are neatly relegated to a space under the trunk lid. The real show is up front, between the frame rails. That's a GM 454 big block V8 likely pulled out of a full size truck from the late 1970s.Thanks to a full rebuild, it's putting out somewhere in the neighborhood of 450hp. Up top, an Edelbrock steel tunnel ram replaces the factory intake and makes room for two Holley 600cfm carbs fed by transparent red fuel lines. With the chrome velocity stacks in place, the setup is roughly as high as the center of the chopped windshield offering a sinister look from both inside and outside the car. Cast iron heads are dressed up with finned aluminum valve covers that have a great nostalgic look. The alternator is polished and there is some assorted billet hardware as well, including the crank and fan pulleys. Despite the handful of modern parts, nothing seems to detract from the overall vintage vibe. Exhaust gases only have to travel a few feet through the headers and out the collectors that dump in front of the cabin. Look underneath the car and you'll find a TH400 automatic transmission backing the built big block. Power is applied to the road through a Ford 9" rear that sits in the center of a triangulated 4-link with coilovers. Up front, you'll find a traditional drop axle and cross spring and hairpins. Braking is handled by a highly effective four-wheel disc system while steering has been kept a manual effort. The entire frame as well as the suspension components have been sprayed with a bright coat of red. With this type of build, there are no secrets. Simply look under the car and you'll be able to see exactly how everything was done. At the corners, red 15" steel wheels are wrapped in Firestone white wall tires in sizes 5.60-15 and 8.20-15, respectively. The interior is, as you would expect, 100% business. There is no air conditioning, modern stereo or even sound deadener for that matter. The door handles are bent metal rods and the "headliner" is simply a series of steel supports. Seating for two is provided by a reworked bench seat. The seat back is one piece but the actual seat is split into two separate areas by the transmission tunnel. An extended shifter looks right at home in the sparse interior. Being channeled, cabin space is tight but not nearly as confining as you might expect. There is still plenty of room to stretch your legs out. All necessary instrumentation is provided by a slick set of Omega Kustom gauges mounted into the factory dashboard. A red ten-inch three-spoke steering wheel sits directly in front of the driver, while a chrome Everlasting signal stalk puts turn signals within easy reach. The pin striping from the car's exterior is continued onto the door panels, tying the whole theme together. If you're after a badass street rod that'll steal the attention away from those $200k cars in a heartbeat, this '31 is exactly what you're looking for. With tons of big block power and absolutely killer looks, don't miss the chance to take this one home. About this auction & rk motors charlotte Please note that all sales are binding and final. 1959 Chevy Apache 3600 fleetside napco 4x4 3/4 Ton 1969 chevy 350 corvette motor camelback heads regular cab frame off restoration. Please call 607-280-4359 for more information. Napco History NAPCO" stands for the "Northwestern Auto Parts Company" of Minneapolis, MN., though their production facility was actually located in Plymouth, MN. I've been told that the abandoned old plant still stands with a weathered sign posted, sadly advertising times gone by. NAPCO had been in business since 1918, and during W.W.II, they focused all their attention on projects commissioned by prime contractors to the United States government. Mainly, this meant the production of specialized automotive parts and assemblies that could be tested on the largest proving ground in the world. After the war, the military's priorities changed, and NAPCO re-directed its vast engineering and manufacturing experience to the production of goods for private industry, which included the production of the famous NAPCO Powr-Pak 4x4 Conversion. I've heard countless times that NAPCO was bought out or had gone out of business in the early 1960's. This is just not true In the 1950s the Northwestern Auto Parts Company became a publicly traded stock company and changed its name to NAPCO Industries, reflecting it's change of focus from wholesale supplier to manufacturer. In addition to manufacturing, the company began a program in earnest of tracking the availability of blue prints and vendors and prices of all the equipment requested by its world wide customers. That computerized system has evolved to become today's model for the industry. The company also adopted the quality standards required of manufacturers serving the US Defense Department. The date that NAPCO started to produce 4x4 conversion units is a little foggy. I have heard stories of GM trucks being converted as early as late 1949, but the earliest documentable truck that I have ever heard of is a 1951 Chevy 3/4 ton owned by Butch Gehrig of Odell, OR. Until October 28th of 1954, when Chevrolet introduced the '55 1st Series, all the conversions were done on 3/4 ton and larger trucks. The '54 and earlier Advance Design 1/2 ton models were not suitable for a NAPCO conversion due to the enclosed drive shaft design. GMC and Chevrolet conversions were by far the most popular, though conversions were available for Ford, Studebaker and other manufacturers. Though the date of the first NAPCO 4x4 conversion is unknown, we do know that in July and August of 1954, NAPCO was very busy pushing its proven 4x4 conversion on truck upfitters and GMC dealers across the country. Upfitters were companies that installed upgrades and accessories like winches, auxiliary transmissions, tandem drive axles, dump bodies and hydrovac systems on stock factory trucks. The NAPCO slogan proudly stated: "Now you can have a standard Chevrolet four wheel drive pickup featuring the traction power of a tank, or, at the flip of a finger, a smoother riding, high speed, over the road truck. Aptly named the Mountain Goat, this full sized pickup will literally leap up mountains, as well as carry you through deep mud, sand, or snow." Apparently NAPCO reached an agreement with both GMC and Chevrolet to supply them with the Powr-Pak conversion kits, and GMCbegan to produce 4x4 trucks on the factory assembly line (using NAPCO components) starting in 1956, with Chevrolet following suite in 1957. By the end of 1957 both GMC and Chevrolet trucks could be ordered from the factory with the NAPCO Powr-Pak conversion. The two offered identical systems other than the availability of a V-8 and an automatic transmission on the GMC trucks. The Chevy could only be ordered with the 235ci six cylinder and a four speed manual (although there was nothing stopping an owner from ordering whatever he or she wanted in a 2 wheel drive truck and then having a NAPCO Powr-Pak "upfitted" by the dealer). Some features of this early "shift-on-the-fly" 4x4 were the unchanged turning radius, a full engine torque P.T.O. option, a rubber mounted transfer case for long, silent operation, greater ease of steering, and a guarantee of no damage to the Chevrolet or GMC frame during the three hour installation. Yes, only four holes to drill and no torch cutting! In a matter of hours, you could go from a two wheel drive to four wheel drive and the NAPCO Powr-Pak could be transferred from one GM truck to another. If a dealer had a truck in stock that he wanted to convert to four wheel drive by using the NAPCO Powr-Pak, he could order the Powr-Pak four wheel drive package. Soon, a wooden crate, 80 inches long, 30 inches wide and 26 inches deep would show up on his loading dock weighing in at 1,410 lbs. with all the necessary parts enclosed. It also gave truck owners and dealers the distinct advantage of quickly removing the conversion package and transferring it to another truck, without damaging the originality or resale value of either vehicle (except for the four bolt holes in the frame.) The NAPCO two speed 4x4 conversions were comprised of 85% GM parts. That meant for the most part they were serviceable by a local dealer. Complete front axle differentials, brake drums, wheels, drivelines, backing plates, springs, shock absorbers, and universal joints were all Chevrolet replacement parts, which are still available from a variety of sources today. A 1/2-ton, two wheel drive pickup listed for $1,548.96 in late 1954. The retail price of the Powr-Pak was $995, which included a dealer freight cost of $800 from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Installation by an upfitter or equipment company included the cost of the Power-Pak, and listed at $1,248. This brought the complete list price of the finished truck to $2,796.96. These conversions were done on the 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, one ton, and the two ton trucks, as well as the Suburbans and panels. Again, the conversion was not available for 1954 and earlier 1/2 tons because of their enclosed driveshaft design. The first "all GM" factory 4x4's were introduced in 1960 when both Chevy and GMC went to a totally new chassis. NAPCO and its Powr-Pak conversion were left out of the equation due to the introduction of GM's completely redesigned truck line featuring independent front suspension on the two wheel drive trucks and a 4-wheel drive specific chassis on the 4-wheel drive trucks. This was the beginning of the end for the 4x4 conversion element of NAPCO. Though they did produce conversion kits for a few more years, their main business shifted to the heavier trucks, 1-1/2 ton and larger. A few later model specially built custom vehicles featuring the NAPCO components are still out there, such as Mr. Packy Pickrell's 1970 Chevy 1 ton NAPCO.
