I purchased this rust-free ’72 Pontiac LeMans GT about 7 years ago from my brother-in-law’s best friend, who bought it from the original owner back in ’75. Even though it has always been garage kept, it was in serious disrepair when I got it and it took a couple of years to get it back on the road. It had a 350, which I still have and intend to give to the next owner. However, a neighbor of mine has a ’70 Trans Am that came with a 400 which he had rebuilt with a mild cam and aluminum intake. He decided to build up a crate 454 for his TA and I bought the 400 for $2500 and dropped it in my Pontiac. There are about 2000 miles on the 400 since it was rebuilt. When we installed the 400 we opted to take out the air conditioning, which was in good working order. I still have all of the original air conditioning parts that will be provided with the car. After having the car on the road for about a year, my son wrecked it and damaged the original Ram Air hood and Endura grill/bumper. I drove it to my buddies shop and piddled with it from time to time until I found a good hood/bumper to repair the car. In addition to restoring the original sheet metal and painting it back to original factory spec, I ended up replacing the carpet and floor mats, all door rubber, recovering the door panel and front/rear seats and installing a dash cap. Only the head liner and rear package tray are original. And as you can tell from some of the interior pics, they aren’t in terrible shape but could still stand to be replaced at some point. I also installed new exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, an MSD electronic ignition system and a Summit vacuum canister, Summit competition starter and a Summit 650cfm carburetor. Other than being slightly cold-natured, the car runs really well and the brakes and transmission are in great shape, too. I drive the car for about 20-30 minutes at a time around my neighborhood every few days. There are no oil leaks but there is a slight coolant leak that occurs when the engine is up to operating temperature. Electrically, the car needs a little bit of work. I have the park lights, brake lights and turn signals all in good working order, but the head lights still need to be addressed. One of the low beam lights does not come on and one of the high beams is also out. The horn is also not functioning currently. Cosmetically, the only other thing that is missing are the chrome headlight bezels. As you will notice in some of the pics those bezels are missing. I the driver’s side bezel and mounting hardware but not the passenger side mate, so I just left it off and I’ve decided to let the next owner deal with getting a set if you can’t find a match. So this car was a LeMans GT and now it’s a GTO clone. The reason I did this was because the LeMans GT decals (made by 3M) are so much more expensive that the stock GTO decals. I figured that if the next owner wants to restore it back to original, they can easily do that by changing the badges. Interestingly, there were fewer Lemans GTs made than GTOs in ‘72, so it’s probably worth more as a GT.

1972 Pontiac LeMans GT Original Stock Condition 350 175hp - Dual Exhaust 2 bbl 3 Speed HD Muncie Hurst Shifter 3.23 Open (non-posi) rear end History of the Car I found this car in Somers CT. It had sat for 20 years. The father of the gentleman I bought it from owned a body shop. The car was brought in to have some work done. The guy never paid and told them to keep the car and it sat at the shop for 5 years. He sold the business and the car went to his son's garage where it sat for 15 years. I received the car in pieces. The car is all original. I have much of the original paperwork on the car including the owner's manual, warranty card, receipts, registration cards (Last one from 1986 - The last time it was registered), build ticket from under the seat. It appears to be a 2 Owner car transferred from sister to brother evident from the registration receipts. Prior to My Ownership I believe the car has new lower rear quarters, metal and welded in. The color was changed from Brittany Beige to Bronze at some point. The trunk floor has a couple patches next to each wheel well. There is some body filler in the lower front quarters as a light refrigerator magnet does not stick in a couple of spots. Work Done Since I have had the car I have done the following: Tune up Upgraded to Electronic Ignition - New cap, Points, Rotor Wires Plugs Belts Fuel Filter Completely New Brake System (4 Wheel Drum) Master Cylinder Brake Lines - solid and flexible (Inline Tube) Shoes Brake Hardware Fuel System New Gas Tank New Sending unit and sending unit wire New Gas Tank Straps and Insulators New Gas Tank Vapor Lines (inline tube) Rebuilt Stock Hurst Shifter New Front and Center Floor Brace and New Floor Pans New Shocks Replaced rear lower control arms New rear control arm bushings (upper and lower) Trunk Patched and Repainted Repaired Transmission Crossmember Re-finished Stock Rally II Wheels New Tires Rear End - Dressed and New Fluid & Gasket New Heater Core New Battery I stripped under the gas tank and rear end and coated it with Master Series Silver and then painted prior to installation of all parts. I patched a small area of the trunk, prepped with Master Series Silver and painted with Dupli-Color Spatter Paint and 3 coats of clear. I removed the old floor from the toe kick to passenger foot wells, welded in new floor braces and the new floor. All welds were lightly prepped and coated with Master Series Silver. I rebuilt the factory Hurst Shifter and installed a new output shaft seal on the transmission. The rims were media blasted, coated with Master Series Silver masked and painted the correct Pontiac colors. Included With the Sale: All Original Paperwork I received with the car PHS Documentation & Replica Window Sticker Pontiac Shop Manual Pontiac Body Manual Pontiac Assembly Manual New Fuel Pump Pontiac Rally Gauge Cluster with 140mph Speedometer & Tachometer (Gauge Cluster Looks like it will need a new circuit board which is readily available) Original Points Distributor with almost new cap, rotor, points, and wires 2 Carburetor Rebuild Kits (One is NOS - has some water damage. The second one from The Carburetor Shop is Brand New) New Trunk Seal Rocker Panel Moldings - not installed A box of parts, nuts, bolts, etc. that came with the car Overall this car is in very good shape and solid. The car is all metal and straight with the exception of the front lower quarters - come over I will give you a magnet. The motor runs strong and the transmission shifts fine. The doors do not hang and they open and close easily. Everything works: interior lights, blinkers, hazard lights, reverse lights, trunk light, seat belt buzzer, parking brake, speedometer, warning lights, heater and fan, cigarette lighter, wipers (washer fluid pump is not working), cabin air vents. What does the car need? Nothing really if you want a fun daily driver. Drive it as is. I have been and it is a BLAST! However here is a punch list of items I planned to address: Radiator gets wet on long drives - 2-3hrs - It will need a new one or a re-core in the near future Replace the two shifter shaft O-rings - It weeps Replace the Interior - It is original - Seats have some cracks, carpet is worn and dry rotted in places, Dash has cracks, Insulator between rear seat and trunk is missing, Passenger rear arm rest has crack around ash tray, the headliner is complete and tight but does have three nickel/quarter size mouse holes in it Driver's remote mirror does not adjust correctly and mirror is one of those cut to fit (just really bad, but needed to pass inspection). The replacement real glass one I ordered from AMES is incorrect and too large I believe the car, or parts of the car were sanded to bare metal at some point (evident in spots on hood and chipped paint on rocker panels). There is surface rust on the lower passenger door - so if you were going to paint it, I would make sure that it is properly prepped. The driver's side radiator support could use a patch - part of it is rusted away. Prep the floor brace/floor welds under the car and paint from under the rear seat to the firewall I patched the fuel line from under the rear seat to just where it starts to curve to go over the rear axle with compression fittings and metal line - so the fuel line could be replaced but you have to lift at least part of the body off the frame Front bumper is driver quality and without dents, rear bumper is not in great shape although not completely rusted through it is close in spots, lower front valence is driver quality, solid but with some dings that could be massaged out with some effort, rear lower valance (plastic) has a tear in it Rocker panel mouldings are driver quality - some blemishes, pitting Replace Badging - Trunk Pontiac Badge is broken - Other LeMans badges are driver quality - nose emblem is faded, LeMans fender badges are pitted The driver's side key does not turn the lock. I am not sure if it is the key or the lock. This car is a great driver. All the hard stuff is done. Get an interior kit, finish the punch list, paint the motor (pull it and prep the engine bay if you want), prep the body yourself, get it painted and you can have a really nice car that is fun to drive for less than another $2000. NADA lists this car at a high retail at $13,687.00. This car is Insured, Inspected, Registered, Running, and Driving. Come over and I will take you for a ride. Engine Running:: https://youtu.be/byJcbTNVvow Exhaust:: https://youtu.be/v0kua4lwMNE The price is $8500. This is a 43 year old car. I have owned it for the past two years and have given you an honest representation of what I have done to and know about the car. Please let me know if you have any questions. It is best to call. 3pm - 9pm est. (802) 753-7269 Why am I selling it? Sort story is a friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at Thanksgiving and passed away Christmas Eve. Life is too short to not work for what you really want. I had a 1964 GTO in my 20's and just love that body style. So I recently Picked up a 1964 LeMans. I don't have garage space for both. Thank you for looking! -Doug *** Bidders Please note - New Ebay Accounts, Accounts with low or bad feedback will be deleted. Car is for sale locally so auction may end without notice.
