Nowhere else could you find a 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V tailored to be such a sleek and intimidating vehicle. The Continental has always been a great American luxury car with a TON of vintage sheetmetal. The gothic Mark V was longer, wider, and lower than its predecessors. This coupe has the great big personality of the 1970s without the drab earthtone color pallet. Its jet black paintwork is the perfect backdrop for the razor-sharp fender creases and plentiful chrome accents. The front has the Rolls-Royce style grille, and 1970s chic flat front hidden headlights. This is accented by attractive parking light lenses that are miniature works of casting genius. Out back, the deck lid features the Continental's trademark spare tire hump/continental kit. But you already can see what really sets this Lincoln apart from any other car out there. Those huge whitewall tires with what appears to be wire wheels, but then you get a little closer, and you can see that those chrome kings are actually a design by Chip Foose. Step inside and see the interior you always thought a comfy Continental should have. This is a completely custom black crushed velour interior, that not only covers every inch of the seats in the comfy cloth, but also it's on the doors and floormats. The addition of aggressive red piping just makes every other Mark V interior look like a letdown. And the customizing didn't end there. The driver gets a Grant three-spoke steering wheel, and everyone can enjoy modern tunes with a large AM/FM/XM/CD stereo that's iPod compatible. Of course features were not something you ever had to worry about in a Mark V. This one already came straight from the factory with power seats, power windows, air conditioning, electric rear defogger, power locks, tilt steering wheel, and a sunroof. There is even a Cartier in-dash clock in front of the driver, so you know this is true automotive jewelry. Ford's smooth and refined 400 cubic-inch Cleveland V8 provides effortless performance in the Continental. It has good horsepower, but the real story is the torque that's enough to pull a boat. Of course you will likely never want to tow a yacht in this beautiful big bodied car, but it's this kind of available strength that allow you to smoothly and quickly cruise away from the stoplight. Fans of originality will love how the big blue Ford engine looks factory-fresh, and it does show all signs of being the original powerplant. While this is the perfect car for the drive-in (after all, it's more comfortable than any movie theater seat), there's much more to this Mark V. It has a three-speed C6 automatic transmission, power steering, and disc brakes at all four wheels. This means you can ride in comfort to car shows as far away as you want. This Continental Mark IV has all the right custom touches, but all the original pieces you want are still with this all-day cruiser, even the owner's manual. It's everything you love about the 70s without having to give up modern comfort. They were unlike anything that came before, or since, and the biggest most luxurious of them all had to be the Lincoln Continental. This particular Mark V, with just over 48,000 original miles, is perhaps the most sheetmetal per dollar you'll find anywhere. Short of 20 feet long, this blue 1979 Lincoln Continental will easily have everyone's head's turning. Not only because of its size, but also because it demands attention due to the excellent paint, the gold grille, and the gleaming bumpers. The car is covered in its factory correct color, and the paint has recently been wet sanded and buffed so it looks practically new. The more square shape of the car is nicely outlined with bright trim and framed in fresh chrome bumpers. The vinyl top and tire cover are in fantastic condition and really helps to complete the look. Optioned out, including a working factory sunroof, this Continental was easily ahead of its time. The blue cloth interior appears new and is quite plush, and perfectly matches the exterior as it screams luxury. The cleanliness of the interior follows through from the door panels, to the carpets, and up to the headliner. For being a car from 1979, the amount of amenities is plentiful, and is appreciated today. This Lincoln was again, simply ahead of its time, with factory power windows and locks, cruise control, 8-track player, sunroof, and even the Quadraphonic 4 speaker system also works to this day. The wood grain dash completes the rich feel, and is the perfect contrast to the lavish seats, making both stand out in their own ways. Even the trunk is lined in the comfy carpet, and shows that the luxuriousness on the inside extends from the dash all the way through the trunk. Under the hood is the numbers matching 400 cubic inch V8. With less than 49,000 miles, the 400ci Cleveland power plant is extremely clean and looks right at home in the engine bay. Bolted to the 400ci mill is a smooth 3-speed automatic. Stopping power surprisingly comes courtesy of four wheel disc brakes, a nice touch, and a must have for a vehicle this large. In front of those brakes, the factory 15" hurricane rims have been wrapped in like new rubber. Under this car you will find a fully sorted chassis with great floor plans with no hints of rust. The Mark V was only produced for 3 model years, but it quickly became one of the most popular Lincolns vehicles, selling an average of 75,000 models each year. When you look at this incredible survivor, it's easy to see why. If you are a fan of the '70s American luxury cars, it doesn't get much better than this. The sheetmetal wars ended in 1979 when Cadillac acquiesced and gave Lincoln the crown as the longest car in America. If you were a person of substantial means at the end of the decade, this 1979 Mark V was your vehicle of choice. This amazing example only has 15,955 original miles and is in excellent condition just as you\'d expect. Supporting documentation includes the original owner\'s manual, Ford warranty card, original dealer invoice, and more. An old newspaper with Jimmy Carter on the front page is even still lying in the trunk! The gothic, angular styling of the Mark V has aged well, and there\'s simply no ignoring this massive piece of Americana. With chiseled good looks, it looks longer and sleeker than the Mark IV that preceded it, and if a car that\'s nearly 19 feet long can look sporty, this might be it, thanks to great proportions. This is one of those cars that has always been an object of admiration, and as such it has been gently preserved by just two owners who always treated it like something special. The factory-issued code 5R Dark Cordovan Metallic paint has spent the past three decades under the shelter of a garage and getting regular wax treatments to preserve the shine. Were cars in 1979 perfect? No, and this car is a great example of the factory\'s imperfect perfection, providing a template for future restorers and that wonderfully soft gloss that only comes from well-maintained factory paint. The matching padded landau roof is in excellent condition, and while this is definitely a product of the \'70s, chrome is quite restrained and in excellent condition. The matching burgundy velour interior proved to be notoriously difficult to photograph, but it remains in excellent condition with no rips or tears in the fabric and only very minor wear on the driver\'s door panel where perhaps someone\'s elbow has polished the armrest. Acres of faux burled walnut, brushed stainless gauges that were modeled after a Cartier clock, and plus carpets were state-of-the-art luxury in 1979. There\'s also an AM/FM stereo radio that still sounds pretty good, plus plenty of power accessories like A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a tilt wheel. With plenty of stretch-out room in the back seat, this is the ultimate road-trip vehicle, with that incredibly plush ride, more than adequate power, and a cabin that seals up so tightly that the wind outside is but a whisper. And with that massive trunk, bring all the luggage you want, this big girl will carry it all. The only engine option in 1979 was a 400 cubic inch V8 which delivers smooth, unobtrusive torque exactly the way you\'d expect. Never designed to be fast, it is definitely effortless in everything it does, and quietly goes about its business without drawing attention to itself. The engine bay is quite original, from the silver air cleaner to the complete array of factory-installed decals on all the various parts, so it has obviously been well-maintained. The 3-speed automatic slips through the gears almost imperceptibly, and 2.73 gears mean that it just loafs along on the highway. The undercarriage is spotless, and nothing covers miles of highway like a big American luxury car from the \'70s, and this one wears handsome alloys with 235/75/15 whitewall radials for the finishing touch. These are on many collectors\' watch lists for future collectables, and the most valuable ones will be the low-mileage examples like this. Call today! Big American luxury cars of the \'70s were unlike anything that came before or since, and the biggest, most luxurious of them all had to be the Lincoln Town Car. By the time this 1979 Town Car was built, Cadillac had already downsized, making it the undisputed champion of the luxury car wars, and with just 58,231 original miles, this is perhaps the most sheetmetal per dollar you\'ll find anywhere. Basic white is a fine color on a luxury car, and the all-original finish on this Lincoln shows off what you got for a rather substantial chunk of change in 1979. Finish quality is quite good and for it to look so well-preserved after 35 years is a testament to the car it has received. The long, straight almost gothic lines of the last of the land yachts have aged well and still look attractive today. Traditional Lincoln styling cues abound, including the bright strip of trim that runs along the tops of the fenders and doors, a featured that first showed up with the 1961 Continental. The rubber filler panels for the bumpers remain in very good condition with minimal discoloration, and if you\'re familiar with these cars, you already know that these parts deteriorate fast if the car is exposed to the elements. The white vinyl top appears to be almost new and might be a replacement, but the overall look is quite uniform, so someone has obviously loved this car. Nice chrome bumpers, a tall, vertical grille, and folding headlights complete the look. The interior is about the size of a Manhattan starter apartment and as luxurious as a penthouse suite. Blue velour on tufted seats is both durable and comfortable and shows minimal wear. Ornate door panels have controls for the split power front seats, windows, and locks, all framed in fairly convincing faux wood. The weather seals are still supple, so this car seals up like a tomb and just whispers along on the highway, and thick carpets underfoot certainly help with that effect. Other features include automatic climate control, cruise control, automatic dimming headlights, and a rather sophisticated AM/FM/8-track stereo. The back seat has enough room for the starting front line of the LA Lakers and the beautifully finished trunk will carry all their gear and then some. Ford\'s 400 cubic inch V8 was the only powerplant available in the Town Car in 1979, and it\'s a good choice. Smooth, torquey, and almost completely silent, it moves the massive sedan without ever feeling like it\'s working hard. It\'s quite original and nicely maintained, with many of the factory markings still visible under the hood. The A/C has been upgraded to modern R134a refrigerant, so it\'s easy to service in the future and still quite effective, and there are quite a few recent service items visible under the hood. It starts easily and idles so smoothly you\'ll be tempted to hit the starter again, and the single exhaust system offers just a distant hum to advertise the engine\'s operation. A 3-speed automatic transmission shifts almost imperceptibly and with towering highway gears in back, this is perhaps the best long-distance cruiser you\'ll ever drive. Factory alloy wheels remain in excellent shape and carry easy-riding whitewall radials as original. They called this a \"Collectors\' Edition\" and perhaps its time has come. We\'ll never see cars like this roaming the highways again, so take advantage of this opportunity to drive America\'s finest for pennies on the dollar. Call today!
