This is my 1989 BMW 325iX. I purchased it from Virginia two years ago: it was the best example I could find of an iX that was in good physical shape as I wanted a rust-free car. I love the E30 and had never owned one, and the all-wheel drive was a good way to “justify” having another car which would not be a RWD toy that has to be put away in the winter. This car was the best I could find in four months of searching at the time. I am putting it up for sale now, along with one of my other cars (1973 Alfa 2000 GTV), as I am making room for another acquisition. I do like this car a lot – the E30 really is a classic you can drive every day, and with the AWD in the 325iX you can do so even in winter. I recently acquired a 1990 911 Carrera 4, which admittedly is a more exciting every day classic, hence another reason the E30 is being offered. I have put a good deal of work into this car over the past two years. Highlights are below and I have receipts and service records for it all. · Body is rust free. Paint is in great shape as the photos show. It really does look this good in person – white is a color that ages well and is forgiving to scratches and wear, unlike my favorite color, black. · AWD works as verified on lift. No leaks or issues with transfer case and coupling. · Interior is also excellent. o No tears or even scuffs in the vinyl upholstery. o Headliner is great. o Dash has no cracks or scratches or fading. o Carpets are clean and intact. o All buttons and controls present and functioning as intended (more below). o The arm rest between the front seats is a Husco unit with integrated cup-holders. o The car has the winter ski pass-through in the rear center armrest. · Service/work performed: o New shocks, springs, tie-rods, tires (Sumitomo Touring) – July 2015 o New timing belt and tensioner, valve cover gasket – July 2015 o New front brake calipers, pads, rotors – July 2015 o Odometer gears replaced – Aug 2015 o Replaced heater core, heater valve – Aug 2015 o Replaced oil filter housing seal and changed oil to synthetic 5W30 – Aug 2015 o AC converted to R-134a – Aug 2015 § Hoses, compressor and dryer belts replaced as part of this project. o Tune-up: - Sep 2015 § New plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. o Cooling system overhaul: - Sep 2015 § New water pump, radiator hoses, pump pulley, thermostat, temp sensor, temp sender, seal rings. o Power steering fluid and suction hose replaced – Oct 2015 o Replace battery and horn siren – Dec 2015 o Fuel level sender and pressure regulator replaced – Jan 2016 o UUC short shift kit installed (fantastic upgrade) – Feb 2016 o Oil service and fluids refresh – July 2016 o AC belt replaced and compressor lubed – July 2016 o Brake service – Aug 2016 o Brake service – Aug 2016 § New rear discs, pads, sensors, left caliper. § Brake fluid replaced. o Exhaust – Nov 2016 § System replaced with cat-back unit. · What does not work: o The rear windows do not go down. I identified the problem as new motors for both sides – fuses, power, are all correct. o I have not replaced the motors as these are each close to $400 new and I could not find used at a worthwhile price. I also never have need to open the rear windows. o Despite my efforts with the fuel reading repairs, the fuel gauge is not accurate after ~150 miles on a tank. I use the trip meter for accuracy and this works well enough that I have not pursued further repairs to the fuel reading. · Everything else works: o Heat works great, AC (converted refrigerant) works great. All vents and directionals work as designed. o Sunroof is manual and works well. No leaks. o All lights, electronics, gauges (other than fuel) work well. o Even the cruise control works. o And the heated seats. o No warning lights on dash cluster or on the diagnostic panel above the rear view mirror are on. These diagnostics all work as they should. o Spare wheel and tire, jack, and factory tool-kit are present and correct. o Central locking works properly and I installed keyless entry also – works great. o This has the BMW eight speaker stereo option. I replaced the head unit with a Kenwood KMM-BT312U. Bluetooth mic is installed above driver side visor with hidden wire. Sound through the eight speakers is very good and the screen color is matched to the orange gauge lighting. o The BBS wheels are OEM 15” units. The car drives really well and tracks straight and true. It is fun and chuckable the way an E30 should be, and it really sings at above 30 mph in the E30 sweet spot. The UUC short shift kit is a great upgrade. If it did not compete with my 964, and I did not want the garage space, I would hold onto it. That being said I have priced this knowing the work that has been put into it: a future owner will be in good shape reliability wise. 1989 BMW 325iS, Alpine White on gray vinyl sport interior, with 177k miles on (working) odometer. That’s correct, odometer is working on this E30! In great condition inside and out, I get countless of complements on car’s condition anywhere I drive. Mostly southern car (AZ, CA and TX) with only 1 year of northern residence with zero rust anywhere on the car. Vehicle has no accident history and all but one VIN tag are present. Passenger front fender is missing a VIN tag and therefore may had been replaced at some point, though tag on the hood is there. Paint is mostly original, mirrors had been recently resprayed due to rock chips. Paint is very shiny but reasonable wear along with normal dings should be expected. Clean history with clean Texas title. Mechanically speaking, this is probably as best as it is going to get. All maintenance is up today, including all new hoses, timing belt and pump in the last year. Bilstein sport shocks with H&R sport springs all around, providing tasteful/reasonable ride quality and drop in ride height. A/C works, blows ice cold and had been converted to R134. Automatic transmission shifts good with no issues. Lucky owner will also receive a full 5-speed conversion kit to go along with the car. I can also offer full conversion at a reasonable shop rate. Original exhaust had been replaced with Ansa exhaust. I do not have the original wheels. Previously owned by adult enthusiasts and a BMW certified tech. For sale is a 1989 BMW E30 4dr sedan, mechanically built towards NASA SpecE30 racing rules, with unfinished interior. In the interim, life has changed to the point where I've never had time to actually race. I've put less than 10 (yes, ten) miles on it. I do have a clear title from the previous owner; I have not registered it as it was always intended only to be a track car (trailered to the track) and I have not driven it on the street other than taking it around the block once a month or so to keep it in good order. It can be registered if that matters to you. Exterior: The car was silver (Lachssilber) but has been resprayed Alpine White II with clear. The paint/body work was done by a professional painter "on the side" and the goal was to make it "good enough" for a track car, not a 100% show car paint job. It presents well, but you can pick it apart if you look close enough. Much better than most E30s. The bumpers F&R each have a crack or two but they're pretty decent. Engine: Original & stock, with a fresh timing belt, water pump, hoses & plugs. New fuel pump. It cranks immediately every time and idles like a BMW should. Clutch ran removed, using the AC fan (electric) for cooling. Comes with a new fuel filter that you can install. Probably should have an oil change based on time, not mileage. Transmission: original & stock, shifts perfectly. Short shift kit installed, new bushings & such, it's a dream to go through the gears. UUC red poly trans mount bushings. Tires are used "rollers" only; wheels are BBS knock-offs, in decent shape, not SE30 compliant, I can probably find the OE Bottlecaps if you want them The car was worked on during summer 2010, sat for a while, worked on in summer 2012, sat a while, then "finished" mechanically in summer 2014. It went to the shop for alignment in April 2014 then to paint/body in August 2014. After paint/body, I had Stephen of Stephen's Garage in Birmingham, AL (now Oxmoor Automotive), one of the best E30 mechanics anywhere, go through the car. All he fixed were a leaking heater valve, repaired the power windows, and corrected a minor installation error of the short shift kit. Since then it has been in my garage, cranked & driven around the block once a month or so. Interior: Ready for you to finish to your requirements. Dash & doors intact, power windows all work, SEATS ARE INSTALLED FOR TEMPORARY USE ONLY. NO BELTS. The seats are cheap fiberglass eBay seats and I wouldn't recommend you use them. There's a set of expired harnesses in the trunk also. The original interior was gray cloth and had been trashed by a previous owner's kids, dogs, or a wolverine attack. + Headliner is in pretty good shape. + All 4 power windows go fully up & down. Issues: Odometer doesn't appear to be working. Stopped at 226,934 Fuel gauge is sporadic, loose connection on sending unit. Easy to fix if it annoys you. Car was originally from PA; there was some rust, and we cut out and repaired it. Front floor pans, F R fender, R quarter (under battery) were main areas of concern that were repaired. AC removed but heat/defrost work. Blower fan works on high only. If you want a track car, buy some good race seats & harnesses and drop the car off at Kirk Racing here in Birmingham to have a cage fitted. Or, if you want a street car, find new carpet & seats and it will look awesome. Mechanically, the car is ready to roll. To actually race in SpecE30, the air filter needs to be changed back to stock/OEM. I'd upgrade the motor mounts. Otherwise, nothing has been modified outside the rule book (to the best of my knowledge). Obviously you need to add spec tires/wheels (I can probably find the stock Bottlecap wheels if that will help make a deal), and build out your interior & safety equipment (seats/harnesses/cage/fire suppression/nets etc.). Bolt down the battery, you may want to do a crank scraper, etc. The good news is, you don't have to spend a lot of time & money UNDOING unnecessary work that does not comply with the SpecE30 rules, and a whole dang lot of hard greasy work has been done for you, along with several thousand dollars in parts. I can answer questions on the car; I can walk you around it via Facetime or Skype even. I've had an E30 or E36 (or multiple, and other BMWs) at all times for the last decade. BMW CCA member. I've dabbled in autocross & track days in the past. I've owned this BMW the longest, but driven it the least (almost none at all) -- ironically, it's the one I was building to be the car I always wanted, but life has just changed. It's time to move on. I don't know exactly how to value the car. I have around $8-10k in it as it sits, not including any of our labor. I don't expect to get that back, but I don't intend to give it away either. This is not a distress sale; I've procrastinated even listing it for almost a year. If the car appeals to you and you have a value in mind, let's talk; I'm reasonable.
