Asking price is $1500 OBO. The vehicle is in good shape overall. It has great gas mileage and handles well on the freeway. Plenty of room in the back seat and trunk. The exterior paint is chipping a bit from sun wear and a couple of the hub caps are missing. The cassette player has been replaced with a Kenwood CD player/radio with a USB port and remote. This vehicle has had many parts replaced in the last few years (see below), but is being sold as a project car. There's been an ongoing issue where the vehicle will suddenly shut off, requiring the vehicle to be started back up. The lights and CD player remain on, but I lose the ability to drive the vehicle. After multiple attempts to start it back up, it then runs again as if it never had an issue. There's no pattern to when it shuts off, and can occur days to months apart. The vehicle sometimes starts on the initial start up, and sometimes it doesn't. It is all random. Because of the work that's been done on it by multiple mechanics recently (see below), and that none of them can resolve this issue, I've decided to give up on trying to repair it and sell it AS IS to someone willing to try and keep it running. It's believed that this issue is an electrical or computer issue, but it's not certain. AboutThis car is amazing. It's one of the quickest and best cornering cars I have ever driven (It has a 51/49 weight balance). Engine modifications are extensive and the audio is ear popping. Custom built in 2004. Supercharged 3.8L V6, 5-speed transmission. There are 7400 miles on the engine and driveline and 122000 overall. The EEC is modified with a QuarterHorse Realtime Emulator tuning card. Check it out at Moates.net. Here is a very nice 1965 Thunderbird Landau with only 73,844 original miles. It was purchased from the family of a deceased owner after resting in storage for a few years. It is not a 100 point show car and did not spend its whole life in the Arizona desert. It is priced for what it is, a turn key car with great curb appeal that can be enjoyed the day it is purchased. It was occasionally started while in storage and was treated to many replacement parts to bring it back to being a reliable and road worthy car. Those items are as follows: tires, battery, alternator, regulator, carb rebuild, gas tank cleaning, temperature, oil, fuel senders, hood to cowl seal, trunk weather stripping, trunk mat set, carpeting, plugs, points, condensor, cap, rotor, wires, oil lubrication and fluid check. Data plate reveals that this car was built in Metucilen, NJ on April 5, 1965. It left the factory equipped with a 390 engine (codeZ), a cruise-o-matic transmission (code4) and a 300-1 ratio rear axle (code1). It was painted palomino (code29) and has a navajo beige interior (codeT). It is well equipped with power steering, power disc brakes, factory air conditioning, (complete but not working), AM/FM radio, swing away steering wheel, sequentional turn signals, back up lights, tinted glass and seat belts. This thunderbird was last inspected in Penna in 1989 at which time it was branded as an antique. The 1989 inspection stickers are still intact and reveal the mileage at this time was 72,680, so this car was literally only driven 1,164 in the last 27 years! Driveline: The original engine runs quiet with no smoke, the transmisson shifts fine and there are no exhaust leaks. Interior: The interior is mostly original with the exception of new carpeting and door panel guards on the finger cups. There are no rips or cracks visible. All lights work. Radio, heater blower, wipers, and horn work. All gauges work fine. Air conditioner does not. As you can see in the photos, the interior is very nice. Body: It appears this vehicle received a repaint some time ago. It still looks good, but close inspection reveals a few imperfections due to age, again this is not a show car nor is it priced as such. There are no rust holes visible. Bumpers are original. Tinted glass has no cracks or milking. Vinyl top is original. Underside inspection reveals this vehicle was undercoated from new, providing some protection from the northeast winters. An 11 1/2 x 16 section of the driver's floor was replaced properly with heavy sheet metal and a welder, not license plates and pop rivets. The car rides on 225-75-R15 Cornell all season radials. Original jack is in the proper storage area in the trunk. This is an honest appraisal of this car. Officially 50 years old this year, the 1966 Thunderbird was the final model year of the "Jet Bird" T-Birds (1964-66) and what most T-Bird enthusiasts will tell you, the Thunderbird itself. One of the American auto industry's greatest nameplates,Thunderbird is the Southwest Indians' God of Rain and Prosperity. Designed by Joe Oros, the 1966 Thunderbird would rise to become the most collectible Bird not manufactured between 1955-57. Gone from Oros's '64 and '65 model Tbirds was 500 lbs of chrome, mostly from the front end. A light weight caste egg crate grille replaced it, sporting a larger than life chrome Thunderbird. Carried over from the 1965 model was the sequential turn, but now the rear headlights were comprised of one row of nine bulbs behind three red lenses. At night, the rear of a 1966 Thunderbird with its lights on is clearly distinguishable from all other cars. New for 1966 was the 428 CID engine option to the traditional 390 most cars came with. Finally, the 1966 Thunderbird was offered in five different models. The Hardtop which had rear quarter windows, and the Landau which was the Hardtop with a landau covered roof. Next up the chart was the Town Hardtop (no landau covered roof) and Town Landau. which had no rear quarter windows in order to offer what would be Ford's first personal luxury car. At the top of the list was the convertible. In 1984, one of my work colleagues and I were discussing our favorite cars. I informed him that when I was five years old, my mother had an Emberglo colored 1966 Ford Thunderbird, and that when she and my father went out at night, I would sneak into the driveway with her key, and turn the directional signal on so that I could watch the sequential turn signals, 1-2-3, 1-2-3. A week later, he invited me over to his father's house in Detroit and while I stood outside in the driveway, he pressed the garage door remote. As I stood there, the door slowly lifted to reveal the front end of a white 1966 Ford Thunderbird Town Hardtop. Later that evening his father returned home and we talked about the car. He had purchased it in South Carolina from its original owner as a gift for his oldest daughter. The problem was, she didn't want it, so he brought it home to Michigan where it sat in the garage for five years. By the end of the night I had purchased it and commenced what would be a personal obsession, to take this beauty back in time to March 31, 1966 when she rolled off the line at Ford's Wixom Michigan assembly plant. In 1989, the 428 CID engine was pulled and sent to Booth-Aarons, a very well respected and regarded engine repair shop in Berkley, Michigan, where it was bored out to 440 CID and upgraded with a new cam, crank, and most importantly, titanium valve seats so that lead additive would no longer be required. With the engine running at idle, I could put a dime on the air cleaner nut and it didn't move. Next was the C-6 transmission, the rear end, the entire suspension system, the brakes, hydraulic, and vacuum system, and all the remaining mechanical parts including the air compressor, evaporator, heater core, and most of the electrical. The 4 BBL carburetor was also overhauled Ten years later it was the interior and exterior's turn. While it was a frame on restoration, the car was soda blasted down to the bare metal and all Bondo and filler removed, and the damaged left quarter panel removed and a new one welded on. The chrome plating all show chromed and the stainless all replaced with new old stock parts. Even the front egg crate grill and the large Thunderbird adorning it were brand new right out of the box. A power antenna was installed as was the right side mirror, both of which were options, but not ordered on this car. New carpeting was installed and the seats reupholstered with new foam and leather quality vinyl fabric. The finishing touch was the five custom made Coker red stripe white wall tires that matched what Ford put on this car in 1966. Three years ago I had her back in for routine adjustments and minor repairs to insure she remains in tip top shape and appearance. Is she perfect? No as there are still some faults, such as the trunk leaks when it rains or you wash the car. Most likely it's through the rear vent (my mother's '66 did the same thing) and this has lead to some rusting under the trunk liner but it can be sanded and repainted. There is a small paint blister on the left rocker panel forward of the left rear wheel, but this looks more like a paint issue than rust. This is also easily repairable. On the good side, the engine purrs, the transmission shifts smoothly, the a/c blows cold and the heat hot. The paint is clear coated Wimbledon White with a hint of a creamy cast to it. It has a glazed glossy look to it and gleams. The interior is two-tone blue, with the headliner a sky blue and the rest of interior a dark blue. Up front, this car has the rare Q code 428 CID engine putting out 400 horsepower. She rides like a dream with power to spare yet she has very nimble handling characteristics. Multi-piston front disc brakes and rear drums stop her quickly. Finally, I installed a 4 speaker AM/FM Cassette radio as the original system is AM only. I've had her for 31 years and I don't have the time or the ability to enjoy her as much as I would like. When I purchased her, she had only 98,000 miles. Today she's approaching 109,525, of which only 4,425 miles is post-restoration. I want her to go to a good home where she will be maintained and enjoyed, but I'm not giving her away. I know what I have into her and what she is worth. Sure, there are many Thunderbirds out there, but not many like this. Someone can claim that his car is all original and only has 12,000 miles on it, but that's bunk. Mileage doesn't kill a car, time does and cars this old require mechanical restorations no matter how little they are driven, because rubber, gaskets, hoses, and metal all degrade. This car has been very well maintained, you might even say spoiled. She was my first of many classic cars and is one of the last I am parting with. The one thing on this car I have never been able to get to work right is the clock. I had the original one overhauled multiple times and finally replaced it and guess what? Same problem. Sorry, but they never did keep good time and why should this one be an exception? To start her, it is necessary to pull up on the parking lever. Most of these Birds worked the same way. I never adjusted the neutral start switch as this acted as a theft deterrent. She comes with 1966 Ford Thunderbird shop manual. She has been constantly stored in a facility with infrared heating that keeps the air at a dry 50 degrees in the winter. Selling my 1995 Thunderbird Supercoupe. I have a 1989 supercoupe, and I like it better than the newer model, so this one needs to go. Here is the story on this car. I bought it over a year ago in Salem, drove it for a couple months and noticed the car wanted to die at idle often. Everything checked out ok on the car, but I never checked the balancer. It ended up falling off. I had the crank bolt extracted by a machinist professionally, and the power train is now back in the car. It only needs transmission fluid and coolant and power steering fluid. The shift cable might need to be adjusted or a new one, I think it might be stretched out, and I did replace the rear output trans seal cause it was leaking fluid. I have a living situation that isnt working for me at the moment, and will use whatever I get from this sale to help me move. I am 100% honest about this car, and if any questions please ask I will respond. I have the paperwork from previous owner about the oil pump replacement and timing seal which required the balancer to be removed.
