Clean, nicely set-up 2004 Land Rover Discovery II. Originally sold new at Land Rover of Seattle, it relocated to California in late 2006, where it has lived all of its life until today. It scores a 48 in AUTOCHECK out of a 21-53 rating range. The 2004 model is the last year of the Discovery Series II ( which replaced the aging and more primitive Discovery Series I which itself came out in 1993 in Europe and debuted in the US in 1994, to its final run in early 1999 when eventually replaced by the DII in the latter part of 1999). The most desirable Discovery to have, with all the revisions and updates unique to only the 03' and 04' models, the 2004 being the only one that came factory-equipped with the desirable CDL ( Central Differential-Lock) system. Chassis, all body panels, undercarriage, ALL inner/ outer sills, seams and welds are 100% RUST FREE. You cannot find that anywhere in the Midwest and definitely not in the East coast! Solid Discovery Series II, nicely set up with a RoversNorth 2.5" lift kit, with TERRAFIRMA struts, springs and steering damper. It also has a nice factory Land Rover snorkel from Atlantic British. This SE has the beefier factory roofbars ( unique to the 2004 models only), as well as the factory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed with it). Nice set of chunky B.F Goodrich All-terrain tires ( with approximately 90% tread on them) mounted on a nice, clean set of 16" factory alloy wheels ( the preferred wheels for off-road as they allow for larger tire displacement). Note: I do have another 16" LR alloy wheel for the spare to match the set mounted on the car ( I will more than likely have a good spare tire ( 90% tread) installed by the time it sells, so that all the wheels are matyching 16" alloys). It has also had the front driveshaft updated to a heavier-duty, greasable unit. Stock 4.6L engine runs well. No knocks, slipped liner nightmares or valvetrain ticking noises. I KNOW Land Rovers, and their issues. This SE is a solid driver. No overheating issues and it runs smooth, as it should with a healthy engine. 150K original miles, average for any Land Rover, better than average for a car of that vintage. * There are NO SERVICE LIGHTS ON at all. None. Not turned off, not reset, not disconnected and NO stories of " oh, it's been there for years". Beware of "CHECK ENGINE" lights on as they are usually indicative of some form of mechanical neglect ( and an immediate automatic FAIL for emissions in California!). BEWARE of any "low-miles" Discoveries; chances are, they sat somewhere due to hidden or unresolved mechanical issues. These vehicles were made to be used, and most have been driven as any Land Rover would be expected to. Automatic transmission shifts well into all gears. Differential lock feature works well. Low and High differentials engage like they are supposed to. Four-wheel Power disc brakes, Power steering ( no leaks), Power windows and Power seats (they both work). NO troublesome SLS or ACE systems to contend with. The A/C system works well and blows nice and cold. Dual sunroofs ( no leaks). Dual Power heated-seats. All four windows and both Power mirrors work. This is a nice example of an overlander DII that looks good despite its vintage. The coachwork is in very good condition, with no dents or damage. Some random scratches from use on the front bumper cover as it would be expected from age. Nice hood and roofline with NO fading of the clearcoat from sun or exposure, a common ailment on all Discoveries. It is solid throughout. Its original, beautiful Zambezi Green factory finish still glows nicely and it is in very good condition considering its age. Professionally refinished headliner ( a common ailment on all Land Rovers and one you will not have to contend with). All doors, panels, hood and trunk line up perfect. The original black leather upholstery is in average condition and has held up well. No tears, rips or seam splits. Expertly redone NEW headliner looks GREAT. Clean interior, door panels, factory carpeting and trunk area. Heavy-duty knubbed Land-Rover rubber mats front and rear, and a black WEATHERTECH rear cargo liner. NON SMOKER vehicle always. This DII has a clear California title and it is currently registered through Dec 2015, as well as SMOG CERTIFIED. FREE AUTOCHECK report available on request. It has a strong 4.6L engine, average miles, very solid, RUST FREE bodywork and clean original interior. It will make a nice trail Discovery II, 2004 being the best DII year to buy, with all the various electronic updates, mechanical and facelift revisions. Very Clean, all-original 1998 Land Rover Discovery I. Originally a TX Land Rover and a California Landie for the last six years. A TWO OWNER DI. Land Rover : Range Rover LWB Cornish Cream 1994 Range Rover County Classic LWB 4.2L v8 SUV 126k miles NICE!!!

For sale I have my 1994 Land Rover Range Rover County LWB. The LWB stands for long wheel base and if you've ever taken a ride in the back seat of a SWB version then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. There is ample legroom for the occupants especially for those riding in the back. This SUV is roomy and looks classic. There are plenty of Grand Cherokees and Explorer Sports around but how often do you see one of these in such nice condition? The body is clean and the common areas that are normally rusted on this vintage are free of corrosion. This Rover has been in either California or Nevada since new. The Cornish Cream paint is original throughout with the exception of the hood which appears to have a nicely done re-spray with a glossy clear coat. This thing looks amazing for its age. Several letters from the 'Range Rover' emblem on the hood were missing so I removed the rest of them. I have a set of replacement letters that I will include but I prefer this clean look instead. The original front fog lights were missing their glass covers so I replaced them with Hella 550 Comet rectangular driving lights that are the exact same dimensions as the originals. I haven't wired them up yet but I can assure you they work. I replaced the original chrome bumper due to a crease in the center. I like the black bumpers more than the chrome ones and was either going to paint the rear bumper to match or replace it with a black one. I never got around to it. Mechanically the original 4.2 liter v8 engine still runs strong. It cranks every time and does so quickly with no effort. The transmission shifts smoothly and effortlessly. The AC Delco battery is a year old (purchased in August of 2014) and holds its charge even after sitting for two weeks without being driven. The fuel pump, seal, and relay were replaced less than 300 miles ago with new units. The transmission service was performed less than 50 miles ago which flushed the fluid and replaced filter and gaskets. The oil pan gasket was replaced at the same time to correct an oil leak and the oil filter and engine oil was replaced with 10w-40 grade Castrol GTX at that time as well. This thing leaves no oil spots on the ground and this is rare! Even my newer 2001 Discovery leaves spots. While underneath the Classic I spotted a brake fluid leak and proceeded to replace the front left brake caliper, all the front brake pads, and both front brake rotors which includes re-packing the front wheel bearings with new grease. This Classic stops on a dime and with little foot effort. The ABS engages as should when necessary. To round it out the rear differential was drained and filled with fresh 80w-90 gear oil. This work was performed within the last 30 days. Also, the transfer case was replaced with a used unit to rectify the viscous coupling issue that is very common for this vintage Rover. The previous viscous was almost completely seized and I purchased a used Borg-Warner transfer case to address this issue. It made the issue much more tolerable but as it was a used case the coupling wasn't 100% perfect either. Though much better than the original transfer case, the new owner may opt to swap out to the LT230 case from the newer Discovery 2 with the locking center differential that many other Classic enthusiasts are doing. When the steering wheel is at full lock the SUV will chirp a bit but otherwise it has no problems driving long straight distances. As it sits now this Classic will easily cruise the highway at 80+ mph to any destination in North America or beyond. Other services which were performed in the last year or so include: new OEM alternator at 111,792 miles, new radiator hoses and coolant flush done at 119k miles, replaced the A/C, alternator belts and cleaned the Mass Air Flow meter at 105k. Within the last 20k miles the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor were replaced and the original air suspension was removed due to leaking air bags and replaced with 4 new yellow Bilstein shocks and medium duty coil springs. The ride is nice and smooth with a significant improvement in handling due to the upgraded shocks. The new owner won't have to worry about the air suspension failing and the added expense and frustration that comes with it. The ride is so soft and comfortable with these new Bilstein shocks. This 1994 Classic rides much better than my 2001 Discovery. The tires are not a matching set. The front two tires are Mastercraft 235/70/16s from Les Schwab. The rear set is a pair of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza size 255/65/16. The front and rear tires are all factory spec 29" in diameter. The set has a good 35-45% life left but new tires should be purchased in the next calendar year. A set of larger All-Terrain tires were my plan but I never got around to it. As for the interior the original leather seats are still in wonderful shape for their age with no tears, rips, or major stains. The headliner could use a refresh as it is original material and the glue has come undone after all these years. The material itself is $160 online and can easily be tackled as a weekend project by the DIYer. As a matter of fact so can most all of the quirks found in these vintage Rovers. They are much less complex than these newer model Land Rovers. The heat and A/C work; however, the blower switch or motor is finicky. Set on the highest level the blower will cut in and out by itself. The previous owner thinks it's the switch. I haven't explored it any further as my last few Classics had fully functioning A/Cs that couldn't keep the cabin comfortably cool here in the desert. The large sunroof opens, closes, and tilts at the touch of a button. The seat switch on the driver's side works in all positions but the passenger side is very temperamental- most likely remedied with a few sprays of electrical contact cleaner or at the worst a new switch. The passenger side tilts and raises up and down but the contacts need to be cleaned again to regain sliding action. The front power windows work both work flawlessly; however, the black windows are stuck in the closed position because of a faulty window lift ecu. I have a guaranteed good working replacement that I will include with the sale. I haven't the spare time to locate the old lift ecu to replace it. The heated seats and cruise control are in-op as is the case with 9.5 out of every 10 of these vintage Classics. The original stereo and 6 disc CD Changer / cassette player are still installed and remain untouched. The LCD display on the radio is cloudy and this is a common occurrence on classics as well. The instrument surround (plastic piece that goes around the speedometer and tachometer) is sun faded and cracked. I found a nicer one on-line and will include it with the sale. The fuse panel cover is missing and I cannot locate another one at a pick-n-pull or online. I have one original key and key fob. The fob works to unlock and lock the doors but will need a new battery as the one that is in it has flat-lined. The original owners manual and folder are included as well as all the documents and receipts that I have on hand. The original carpet mats as well as a set of heavy duty all weather front mats also come with the Classic. Underneath the steering column the previous owner had a rectangular piece of trim cut out to remedy the non-working windows just have our local Land Rover dealership diagnose a faulty window lift ECU. Included with the sale is a new piece of under steering wheel trim to replace the old slashed trim piece. I spent loads of time and money to bring this Classic back to collectible status. I have no doubt the next owner will be able to quickly and easily be able to continue where I reluctantly left off. I have owned four of these Range Rover County Classics prior to finding this one. I cannot seem to get away from them. I have a love-hate relationship with these things. When I start hating on them I just sit back and look at the timeless design and the comfortable commanding presence that it exudes when I'm sitting in the driver's seat and I realize all over again why I've grown to love these things in the first place. I get thumbs up from owners of the newer and much more expensive Land Rovers everywhere it's spotted. If it weren't for a growing family I would surely insist on keeping this 1994 LWB for my child when he turns driving age but as it is, and circumstances being the way they are, I must opt to outfit our 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series 2 for our growing family instead. The Story: I have owned Land Cruisers (1959-2005, all models) for more than 30 years, I think they are some of the finest vehicles to ever roam this planet. This Land Cruiser is my wife's current daily driver so the miles will increase a little day by day. This SUV was locally owned, adult driven, never off road, no pets, no smoking etc. Because this car hauls my family I have been extremely proactive with repairs and maintenance. I had a full safety inspection done the day I brought it home, below is a list of what has been done in the last year. Please note, my mechanic is a 17 yr ASE certified master tech, not some dude out back under a tree.Repair List:At 199K miles we did a full timing service including water pump, tensioner, timing belt, etc. all using factory Toyota parts, even the coolant is a Toyota product. I always run synthetic oil, also installed a K&N air cleaner and it has an Optima blue top battery. $1100Replaced front rotors and pads, also replaced the power antenna mast and windshield. $700Recently replaced the alternator, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter and O2 sensors. $900100 series LCs are notorious for the plastic bumper covers and rubber side trim losing paint and showing wear so I had all the bumpers and trim repainted silver a few months ago. $500I installed a new set of 265/75/16 Cooper AT tires less than a year ago, they are at about 90% tread. $850I just had the hi/lo range sensor replaced on the transfer case, the rear locker works flawlessly. $350Condition, Options and Drivetrain: The body and paint are excellent, well above average, absolutely no rust, ever, we are a very dry climate and we do not use salt here in the 4 corners area. Under the hood is a very strong 4.7 V8 engine, auto transmission, AWD etc. The non smoking heated leather interior is super nice, equipped with keyless entry, power seats, windows, locks, cruise control, tint, front/rear AC/heat, AM/FM/CD, sun roof, roof rack, running boards, fog lights and more, everything works as it should. I will have this car pro detailed before delivery, otherwise this car needs nothing, is ready to roll and will not disappoint you. Though in excellent overall condition, this is a used 18 year old SUV and as you would expect there are imperfections, scratches, dings, wear, etc. I am being very "nit-picky" on some of this stuff because I value my reputation/feedback. There is some wear on the edge of the inside top of the drivers door (see photos) There is some peeling on the black window trim, a common 100 series issue (see photos) There is a small chip in the windshield that has been filled/repaired. The 2 little storage nets on the back of both front seats show some wear (see photos)The cover is missing (might be in there???) on the center console cup holder.The power windows are a little slow in the winter cold, a common cruiser issue.The seat belt in the rear center seat does not retract.The steering wheel leather showed wear so I put a nice looking leather cover over it (see photos)The rear jump seats were missing when I purchased the car. The LR4's wheelbase is more than five inches longer than the Sport's yet the LR4 is only two inches longer overall. The LR4 has short front and rear overhangs to avoid damage in rugged terrain. The LR4's looks are distinctively Land Rover. It's a happy, familiar shape that manages to pull off both boxy and, thanks to rounded edges at every opportunity, svelte if not sleek. Inside the cabin, the LR4 is a complete success in terms of comfort, luxury and utility. Everything is lush to the eye and hand, and the quality of the interior materials is a high as it gets, beautifully fit and finished. Quality is much better now than it was in the early days of the Discovery. Underway, the LR4 is very comfortable and quiet. We were impressed during our test drives of the 2010 model in Scotland and, most recently, off-road in the 2011 LR4 in Colorado. We expected no less, of course, as the LR4's capability off road is nothing short of phenomenal. Its suspension articulation coupled with the latest in traction control technology allow the LR4 to creep over extremely rugged terrain, the worst off-road trails, the most primitive of roads, and in all kinds of weather. The Land Rover LR4 comes with a 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 (new for 2010) with direct injection and variable camshaft timing, making 375 horsepower and 375 foot-pounds of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission shifts sharply, and has Normal, Sport and Manual modes. The LR4 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds, a sprightly pace given the LR4's weight of about 5850 pounds (and given the Discovery's reputation as offering decidedly unsprightly acceleration). All LR4 models come with full-time all-wheel drive with a selectable low range, although it's an understatement to describe the Land Rover's state-of-the-art traction-control system so simply. For off-highway travel, the electronic two-speed transfer case can be shifted on the fly. But the magic is in the Terrain Response System, with its five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield, select the correct setting for the terrain, and the LR4 will coordinate all of its off-road technology accordingly, including setting the suspension height. If you want to drive to Tierra del Fuego, one of these would be a great choice. The LR4 meets the government's ULEV2 emissions requirements, meaning it's greener than required by law. It's no economy vehicle, however, with an EPA rating of 12 City and 17 Highway miles per gallon. The LR4 is the latest in an evolution of Discovery models that benefitted from the upmarket Range Rover chassis. Launched in the UK in 1989, the Land Rover Discovery was introduced in the U.S. in 1994. The Discovery Series II replaced it for 1999 and was a significant improvement. When the Discovery 3 was launched in April 2004 it was dubbed LR3 in North America to emphasize the Land Rover brand. The LR4, launched as a 2010 model, is a heavily updated version of the LR3, and is marketed as Discovery 4 in other parts of the world. The LR4 grille features two horizontal bars with perforations that suggest eggcrate but don't really say Land Rover, despite the badge that literally says so. The big headlamps at each end of the grille might do more to establish the identity, as they reflect the all-business nature of the Land Rover: They're out there and ready to work, with twin round beams inside, LED parking lights at their edges, above round projector-beam foglamps on the fascia below the grille. The sheetmetal is softened by rounding from the hood down to the grille, and, more distinctively, behind the headlamps to the fenders. All in all, it's a good-looking front end for a big SUV, including the nice touch of alloy-colored vents on each front fender behind the wheel, in recognizable eggcrate mesh. The fender flares are smoothly full, consistent with the LR4's other rounded edges, and Land Rover says the front flares reduce aerodynamic lift by 50 percent compared to the LR3 that was replaced. The standard 18-inch wheels work better for off-road because the tires have more sidewall, but the optional 19-inch alloy wheels are more striking, with 14 spokes. Maybe the best view of the Land Rover is one people won't see unless they're 10 feet tall, the view looking down on the roof. The privacy glass on the third side window wraps up to the big dark Alpine roof that exposes the sky to the passengers inside, and forward of that is the power sunroof that's not quite so wide. From above, it sets the Land Rover apart and makes one realize what a special vehicle this is. From the rear, it's unmistakable Land Rover, with the stepped rear hatch and the massive vertical taillamps, all business like the front headlamps. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComDriving ImpressionThe Land Rover LR4 comes with an engine that was new for 2010, a 5.0-liter DOHC V8 with direct fuel injection and variable camshaft timing that makes 375 horsepower and 375 foot-pounds of torque. The design is shared with Jaguar, but the Land Rover version has been changed to be better suited for off road. It uses a deeper oil pan to maintain engine lubrication at high lean angles, and all the exposed pulleys, belts and motors have been waterproofed, including the starter, alternator, and air conditioning compressor. The LR4 was designed to be able to ford 28 inches of water. Coupled to a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission that shifts quickly, the V8 can accelerate the LR4 from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds, a downright sprightly pace given the LR4's weight. The transmission has Normal, Sport and Manual modes, and the electronic two-speed transfer case can be shifted on the fly. The LR4 meets ULEV2 emissions requirements. The LR4 is rated to tow 7700 pounds, though we don't see towing to be its forte. Trailer Stability Assist is an option that works like electronic stability control: sensors detect oscillation in the trailer, and use throttle intervention and braking to get the trailer to stop weaving. We recommend getting Trailer Stability Assist if you plan to tow. The suspension uses electronically controlled air springs and shock absorbers, providing excellent handling and little body roll in corners, especially for a hefty truck that rides this high off the ground and has a high center of gravity. The ride is smooth and the steering response is surprisingly good. It's a wonderful mix of luxury, silence and serenity. If you come upon a surprise in the road, the chassis and brakes and big tires will handle it. If you find a challenge in the middle of a corner, the LR4 takes it on with a minimum of fuss. The Terrain Response system has five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield and select the correct terrain, and the LR4 will drive accordingly, including setting the suspension height. Its capability in rough terrain earned it the crown for 2010 Off-Road SUV of the Year at the 16th annual Mudfest, a competition for SUVs put on by the Northwest Automotive Press Association. Our test of the 2011 LR2 included two days of off-road driving in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, over trails that exceeded 13,000 feet. The rock-crawling challenges we faced far exceeded anything most Land Rover owners will ever face, yet there was nothing that even caused our LR4 to pause, except maybe the dangers, when we climbed out to peer over the cliffs we might drop over if we made a big mistake. With guidance from Land Rover instructors riding shotgun, we saw first-hand the amazing things the LR4 was capable of, and how the sensors found traction in any situation, including climbing up steep bare rock covered with dust. Suffice it to say that you're unlikely to ever get stuck in the mud. We used Hill Descent Control much of the time, and it worked flawlessly to keep us out of trouble on steep downhill rocky paths. Gradient Acceleration Control kicks in to keep the car from going too fast, when Hill Descent Control isn't set. These sensors are so smart the best way to drive on steep, muddy downhills is with no feet, letting the system control wheelspin as you steer down the correct path. And going up, we used Hill Start Assist, to keep from sliding back when we went from the brake pedal to the gas. The large and quiet brakes do the job well, even when driving through water that covers them completely. We got out on the highway at high speeds, and they hauled the heavy LR4 down admirably. Brakes on the LR4 HSE are the same as the Range Rover Sport's 14.2-inch ventilated front discs and four-piston calipers, with 13.8-inch ventilated rear discs and twin-piston calipers. Everything in the cockpit is luxurious to the eye and hand, and the quality of the interior materials is high, beautifully fit and finished. Not surprisingly, it's very comfortable and quiet. During our test drives of the LR4 in Scotland and more recently off-road in Colorado, we were impressed. The controls are easier to understand and use than in the past. There are fewer switches, with some vehicle functions now on the touch screen at the center of the instrument panel. The LR4 has an innovative setup with the second row, a 35/30/35 rear seat with each section folding flat, to afford limousine-like rear seat leg room in the third row, or to accommodate combinations of cargo and passengers. The front-row power seats are beautifully stitched, supportive and comfortable. The thick multi-function steering wheel mounts a complete set of controls for audio, telephone and cruise control. The center stack has been completely redesigned to be easier to read and use. The optional surround camera system uses five cameras, two facing forward, one on either side of the truck facing down, and one at the rear to give a near-360-degree view of surroundings. Camera views can be selected from the touch screen, and the view can be zoomed if necessary. Remarkably and fantastically, it shows you exactly where your trailer is headed during backup maneuvers, guiding you to the correct spot. This feature was developed for this reason, but also for checking ground clearances and terrain when driving off-road. Quality is much better now than it was in the early days of the Discovery. Underway, the LR4 is very comfortable and quiet. We were impressed during our test drives of the 2010 model in Scotland and, most recently, off-road in the 2011 LR4 in Colorado. We expected no less, of course, as the LR4's capability off road is nothing short of phenomenal. Its suspension articulation coupled with the latest in traction control technology allow the LR4 to creep over extremely rugged terrain, the worst off-road trails, the most primitive of roads, and in all kinds of weather. The Land Rover LR4 comes with a 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 (new for 2010) with direct injection and variable camshaft timing, making 375 horsepower and 375 foot-pounds of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission shifts sharply, and has Normal, Sport and Manual modes. The LR4 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds, a sprightly pace given the LR4's weight of about 5850 pounds (and given the Discovery's reputation as offering decidedly unsprightly acceleration). All LR4 models come with full-time all-wheel drive with a selectable low range, although it's an understatement to describe the Land Rover's state-of-the-art traction-control system so simply. For off-highway travel, the electronic two-speed transfer case can be shifted on the fly. But the magic is in the Terrain Response System, with its five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield, select the correct setting for the terrain, and the LR4 will coordinate all of its off-road technology accordingly, including setting the suspension height. If you want to drive to Tierra del Fuego, one of these would be a great choice. The LR4 meets the government's ULEV2 emissions requirements, meaning it's greener than required by law. It's no economy vehicle, however, with an EPA rating of 12 City and 17 Highway miles per gallon. The LR4 is the latest in an evolution of Discovery models that benefitted from the upmarket Range Rover chassis. Launched in the UK in 1989, the Land Rover Discovery was introduced in the U.S. in 1994. The Discovery Series II replaced it for 1999 and was a significant improvement. When the Discovery 3 was launched in April 2004 it was dubbed LR3 in North America to emphasize the Land Rover brand. The big headlamps at each end of the grille might do more to establish the identity, as they reflect the all-business nature of the Land Rover: They're out there and ready to work, with twin round beams inside, LED parking lights at their edges, above round projector-beam foglamps on the fascia below the grille. The sheetmetal is softened by rounding from the hood down to the grille, and, more distinctively, behind the headlamps to the fenders. All in all, it's a good-looking front end for a big SUV, including the nice touch of alloy-colored vents on each front fender behind the wheel, in recognizable eggcrate mesh. The fender flares are smoothly full, consistent with the LR4's other rounded edges, and Land Rover says the front flares reduce aerodynamic lift by 50 percent compared to the LR3 that was replaced. The standard 18-inch wheels work better for off-road because the tires have more sidewall, but the optional 19-inch alloy wheels are more striking, with 14 spokes. Maybe the best view of the Land Rover is one people won't see unless they're 10 feet tall, the view looking down on the roof. The privacy glass on the third side window wraps up to the big dark Alpine roof that exposes the sky to the passengers inside, and forward of that is the power sunroof that's not quite so wide. From above, it sets the Land Rover apart and makes one realize what a special vehicle this is. From the rear, it's unmistakable Land Rover, with the stepped rear hatch and the massive vertical taillamps, all business like the front headlamps. The design is shared with Jaguar, but the Land Rover version has been changed to be better suited for off road. It uses a deeper oil pan to maintain engine lubrication at high lean angles, and all the exposed pulleys, belts and motors have been waterproofed, including the starter, alternator, and air conditioning compressor. The LR4 was designed to be able to ford 28 inches of water. Coupled to a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission that shifts quickly, the V8 can accelerate the LR4 from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds, a downright sprightly pace given the LR4's weight. The transmission has Normal, Sport and Manual modes, and the electronic two-speed transfer case can be shifted on the fly. The LR4 meets ULEV2 emissions requirements. The LR4 is rated to tow 7700 pounds, though we don't see towing to be its forte. Trailer Stability Assist is an option that works like electronic stability control: sensors detect oscillation in the trailer, and use throttle intervention and braking to get the trailer to stop weaving. We recommend getting Trailer Stability Assist if you plan to tow. The suspension uses electronically controlled air springs and shock absorbers, providing excellent handling and little body roll in corners, especially for a hefty truck that rides this high off the ground and has a high center of gravity. The ride is smooth and the steering response is surprisingly good. It's a wonderful mix of luxury, silence and serenity. If you come upon a surprise in the road, the chassis and brakes and big tires will handle it. If you find a challenge in the middle of a corner, the LR4 takes it on with a minimum of fuss. The Terrain Response system has five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield and select the correct terrain, and the LR4 will drive accordingly, including setting the suspension height. Its capability in rough terrain earned it the crown for 2010 Off-Road SUV of the Year at the 16th annual Mudfest, a competition for SUVs put on by the Northwest Automotive Press Association. Our test of the 2011 LR2 included two days of off-road driving in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, over trails that exceeded 13,000 feet. The rock-crawling challenges we faced far exceeded anything most Land Rover owners will ever face, yet there was nothing that even caused our LR4 to pause, except maybe the dangers, when we climbed out to peer over the cliffs we might drop over if we made a big mistake. With guidance from Land Rover instructors riding shotgun, we saw first-hand the amazing things the LR4 was capable of, and how the sensors found traction in any situation, including climbing up steep bare rock covered with dust. Suffice it to say that you're unlikely to ever get stuck in the mud. We used Hill Descent Control much of the time, and it worked flawlessly to keep us out of trouble on steep downhill rocky paths. Gradient Acceleration Control kicks in to keep the car from going too fast, when Hill Descent Control isn't set. These sensors are so smart the best way to drive on steep, muddy downhills is with no feet, letting the system control wheelspin as you steer down the correct path. And going up, we used Hill Start Assist, to keep from sliding back when we went from the brake pedal to the gas. The large and quiet brakes do the job well, even when driving through water that covers them completely. We got out on the highway at high speeds, and they hauled the heavy LR4 down admirably. Brakes on the LR4 HSE are the same as the Range Rover Sport's 14.2-inch ventilated front discs and four-piston calipers, with 13.8-inch ventilated rear discs and twin-piston calipers. There are fewer switches, with some vehicle functions now on the touch screen at the center of the instrument panel. The LR4 has an innovative setup with the second row, a 35/30/35 rear seat with each section folding flat, to afford limousine-like rear seat leg room in the third row, or to accommodate combinations of cargo and passengers. The front-row power seats are beautifully stitched, supportive and comfortable. The thick multi-function steering wheel mounts a complete set of controls for audio, telephone and cruise control. The center stack has been completely redesigned to be easier to read and use. The optional surround camera system uses five cameras, two facing forward, one on either side of the truck facing down, and one at the rear to give a near-360-degree view of surroundings. Camera views can be selected from the touch screen, and the view can be zoomed if necessary. Remarkably and fantastically, it shows you exactly where your trailer is headed during backup maneuvers, guiding you to the correct spot. The Story: This is a very hard to find Cummins/6 Spd drive-train combo quad cab truck. This rig was used as a work truck but it was adult owned, never abused, non smoking and very well maintained. This truck has some dents, dings and scratches as you would expect from a work truck but is very tight mechanically. This truck starts, runs, shifts, drives and stops excellent in every way, it is a good tight, string running rig and it will not disappoint you. Options and Equipment: Has a very powerful 5.9L Cummins engine, 6 spd trans, 4WD, power windows/locks, tilt, AC, heated/power mirrors, keyless entry, cruise, fog lights, tow package, receiver hitch, seats 6, very clean non smoking gray cloth interior, good glass, a good set of matched Cooper AT tires on alloy rims and never any rust (still has factory frame stickers, see photos underneath) We installed 2 new batteries, gave this truck a full safety inspection, oil/filter change, checked all fluids, air filter, inspected the brakes and undercarriage, has been professionally cleaned inside etc. This is a used 11 year old work truck and as you would expect there are imperfections, scratches, dings, wear, etc. I am being very "nit-picky" on some of this stuff because I value my reputation/feedback. The Story: This is a rock solid, low mile (64K) 4WD, flat bed truck, adult owned, never abused, non smoking and very well maintained. This truck starts, runs, drives and stops excellent in every way, is a good tight rig and it will not disappoint you. Options and Equipment: Has a strong running 6.2L V8 engine, auto trans, 4WD, power windows/locks, AC, heated/power mirrors, hands free phone, cruise, factory trailer brakes, rear air bags, tow package, receiver hitch, goose neck, heavy duty flat bed w/headache rack, a massive grill guard, seats 6, non smoking gray cloth interior, good glass, and never any rust (still has all the factory frame stickers, see photos underneath) We gave this truck a full safety inspection, oil/filter change, checked all fluids, air filter, inspected the brakes and undercarriage, has been professionally cleaned inside etc. Talk to me about wholesale tires! Though in excellent condition, this is a used 4 year old work truck and as you would expect there are imperfections, scratches, dings, wear, etc. I am being very "nit-picky" on some of this stuff because I value my reputation/feedback.
