Elegantly durable describes this car. I have owned it since 1992, and used it regularly for family transport. 4 doors are extremely helpful with kids car seats. After moving from WA to NV in 1994, it was used daily to commute an average of 80 miles. At about 36,600 miles, the entire engine, exhaust and electrical systems were checked and repaired. It hasn't been in any accidents that I know about. No dings or dents. Single overhead camshafts, two valves per cylinder, 230 hp. Bosch electronic fuel injection. (112.2 inch wheel base) It got new paint in 1999. The car ran great for the move from NV to OK in 2002, and was used regularly until a family illness hit, around 2009. Although its been "black tagged", we still ran it regularly. I replaced the fuel pump and water pump in 2013 and it has a newer battery (2014). Current mileage: 91.000. Good tires. Front bucket seats and back bench seat are in great shape. The car has a huge trunk, with the original tool kit and roadside repair sign kit. Also, its original radio. Its interior has a wooden dashboard and a big, hefty steering wheel. The wooden trim around one back door has delaminated. The V-8 drove like a dream and handled so smoothly, you hardly thought you were traveling that fast. Built to last and look good, too. I was told this was the last year Mercedes hand built their cars. It needs TLC, and isn't running cause it hasn't been used for awhile. There are some minor rust spots. With increasing competition from Japanese, American, and other European luxury car makers, Mercedes-Benz has recently made some revolutionary changes in both the automobiles it produces and its methods of production. Lessons in design and manufacturing efficiency learned in development of the latest compact C-class cars, introduced in 1994, were used in development and production of the new E-class.The E420 is a high-performance luxury car in the finest German manner. It shares the distinctive styling of the other E-class cars, but is of a much more sporting intent with a 275-horsepower V8 under the hood. With sports car speed and handling and the quiet comfort of a luxury car, it is a true gentleman's express. It is the Mercedes for people who once would have gone elsewhere for performance and style in a luxury sports sedan. A week spent with an E420 gave me some new benchmarks for luxury comfort combined with exciting performance.APPEARANCE: With few exceptions, the styling of previous Mercedes-Benz automobiles has been functional and conservative. The current E-class is a radical departure from that conservatism. Without losing any functionality, it is friendly, even playful. Four oval headlights and the ever lower and wider Mercedes grille give it a definite, unique face in front. The car is slightly larger than its predecessor and well-proportioned. The E420 may be distinguished from other E-class Benzes by its 5-spoke alloy wheels and the badging on the trunk lid.COMFORT: The E420's leather and walnut-appointed interior may seem a bit lean and Spartan to people accustomed to American or British opulence. Don't be fooled. The 10-way power-adjustable front seats are firm, supportive, and work very well for long distance comfort. Rear passengers are treated well with three headrests and shoulder straps, climate control vents, and plenty of room and storage space. Instruments and controls are logically designed and placed. The full complement of convenience features are standard equipment, including power-assisted door locks, mirrors, and windows, infrared keyless remote entry, and a fine Bose sound system. My test car was fitted with an optional tilt- and-slide sun/moon roof and a cellular phone in the (air conditioned) center console.SAFETY: All E-class Mercedes-Benzes have safety-cage construction with deformable crush zones, front and door-mounted side air bags for the driver and front passenger, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, and an anti-theft alarm system. The E420 has the sophisticated ASR5 traction control system.ROADABILITY: The E-class chassis has a new double wishbone front suspension. The 5-link rear suspension has been refined. The result is an impeccable combination of comfort and handling. The ride is firmer than the American luxury norm, but not harsh. As Mercedes puts it, the driver "is insulated from road shocks without being isolated from road feel." Ride and handling in everyday use are nearly perfect. A couple of laps around Sears Point International Raceway showed excellent handling and composure in high-speed driving. With the E420, there is no need to compromise between comfort and handling.PERFORMANCE: The E420's engine compartment is home to a dual overhead cam, 32-valve, aluminum alloy V8 engine with variable intake valve timing. It supplies 275 horsepower to the rear wheels through an electronically-controlled 5-speed automatic transmission that benefits both performance and fuel efficiency. The transmission adapts its shift timing according to the way in which the car is driven. Shifts are smooth, crisp, and quick. All the pictures you see here are of the car came out of its garage and the five hundred and fifty mile tow home, I have only wash the bugs off the windshield, if you look carefully you will notice dirt, dust and grease on the hinges of the doors, this is just the way I found it, the way all significant car should be cared for. Check out my store for more great Unique and Classic Cars. This car runs is a good runner but has been sitting awhile so is going to need some work to get it running. It has the Big Block 400 with a 4-Speed Manual Transmission which makes this car a blast to drive. I used to start these cars up once a month or so to keep all the seals tight and the cars running but have not been able to keep up on that for awhile. This car was a runner before I parked it and I'm sure wouldn't take much to get it going again. Maybe even just a battery. The fuel should be drained as its 4-5 years old Who knows you may replace a Fuel pump Water pump or something But a Bit of tinkering and this car is set to go the pictures were from last summer so maybe a sticker is more peeled up or some minor something but this is a Tight car that is a Orig 4spd 400 Trans Am. Drive it around and Enjoy it until you decide to pull it apart and restore it..;-) Its a great driving car. This Project will make someone a GREAT Investment car But NO you cannot hop in it and drive it to Florida... No i wouldent do it after you drained the fuel either it has not been on a trip that long in God knows how long. The exterior of this car is beautiful. It is a bright orange in color with the big black and silver bird on the hood and matching decals. The paint is in very good shape still and shines up nice. It is a little faded right now just from sitting but when buffed comes out very nice. This car does have a sunroof which someone put in and should be sealed up when restored it isnt a leaker though although im sure it will at some point. The body is very straight on this car and it doesn't have any visible rust. The previous owner installed a few extra exterior lights which you can see. Has a very cool set of aftermarket Gold Wire Wheels and a set of White Walls Tires that really give this car a unique look. They also put fender flares on the car which really makes it look unique. I have never seen them Before This is a 2 Owner car that came from Arizona and never seen the road in the winter anywhere it is ready to tinker around on...;-). Options: 400 4-Speed Aftermarket Wheels Fender Flares The interior is in really good condition on this car. It has the black interior with vinyl seats. The seats are actually in very good shape. The front seats have seat covers on them which have kept them protected. The carpets are not in that great of shape and should probably be replaced. The door panels, dash, headliner are all in very good shape for this year of car. Someone took good care of the car over the years and it shows.
