I am the original owner of this smoke-free, garage-kept VW. Note that this is a DIESEL car, and as such gets great mileage and has good performance. The 1998 New Beetle was the first car to use VW's A4 platform (the Golf and Jetta got it in 1999). 1998 TDI engines are ALH engines, which are great engines to tune. This car has such a tuned engine. Even with the tune, I still get 40mpg around the city, and in the 50s on the highway. This summer, with the A/C blasting and driving in the mountains between Chicago and Alabama, I was getting 55 mpg. This car drives like a little sports car. As they say, people buy horsepower and drive torque. Out of the box, the TDIs are 90HP. I had mine up on the dyno a few years ago, and it measured 134 HP and 272 ft-lbs of torque. Note that the base 2015 Porsche 911 gets 287 ft-lbs of torque. The performance changes were done by JasonTDI in Madison, WI. The car has been maintained by the excellent European American Motors in Chicago. All oil changes were done with diesel-spec synthetic oil, API CH-4 or better. A couple years ago, I had the headliner replaced (it was coming down), so that's in good shape. The interior is in very good shape for the age. There are some wear marks on the steering wheel and door handles. The driver's mat has taken some abuse. I had some excellent custom gauges installed in a cool 3-pod container in the dash. Sadly, one of the gauges blew and took the others with it. Currently, they're still installed, but i have the original dash panel and that can easily be restored. Or, you could buy new gauges and get some cool readouts going. There are already sensors installed for oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, turbo boost, and battery charge. I also have an uninstalled sensor for exhaust temp (never ended up tapping the manifold to get it installed), but you can have it if you want it. Also, I still have the original VNT-15 turbo, which you can have if you want. But note that i was having some trouble with it, solved with the 17/22 upgrade. This is no ordinary diesel Beetle. With the tuning, this car goes like mad. The 17/22 turbo provides a huge burst through 3rd gear. Even when in 5th, the turbo can get the car 20mph faster in short order. It has to be driven to fully appreciate what it can do. (The mechanics at European tell me how much they enjoy taking it out for the road test!)

It was a fun enjoyable drive and is an amazing car. The car drove great on the way home and now 11 years later, still drives like it did that day. Handles great, has plenty of power, is a joy to drive. Clearly in my opinion one of the best cars that Volkswagen has to offer. And then of course being Dad, I had the opportunity to take care of this car for the past 11 years. It has been well taken care of and never abused. It has had regular oil changes using synthetic oil and OEM German filters. The original White paint is in great condition and is washed by dad on a regular basis. There are a couple of paint chips off of the front bumper cover, a small scuff on the passenger rear bumper cover and just very minor paint chips or scratches. It has lived in a garage the entire time that we have owned it. There is a small rust spot right behind the drivers front wheel, a common issue with MKIV Jetta’s and is purely cosmetic at this point. (See pictures for paint condition/issues). The tires are in good shape and are all matching. The original VW alloy wheels are in great shape as well. In the winter they had been removed and cleaned and waxed and then put back on during the summers. The windows have OEM tint on the fronts and a darker tint on the rears. The interior of the car is loaded with all the features that VW had and everything works as well. There is an included iPhone/iPod interface that was added that connects to the VW CD Changer port that is located in the trunk and includes a Apple lightning cord that is in the front console so you can plug in your iPhone/iPod to play music from it. There is also a Subwoofer enclosure in the trunk that contains 2 JBL 12” subwoofers and a separate amp that powers the subwoofers. There is also a subwoofer level control mounted on the side of the console so you can control the sound level of the subwoofer. The black leather interior is in great shape with no rips or tears and is conditioned regularly to keep it nice and soft and moisturized. Also included are Volkswagen rubber mats to keep all the dirt or winter gunk contained, these are a great addition to any car. The heater works great in the winter. The air conditioner blows cold in the summer and it is all controlled by the climate controls. The heated leather seats are pure joy on a cold winter drive. The rear seats fold down to give you access to more cargo room if needed. Here is a list of all the options you will enjoy! Actually it is an amazing car, in the interest of full discloser so you understand everything you are getting. When I look back over the past 11 years of ownership and try to come up with known issues that are affecting this car here are the ones that I can come up with:VW makes the oil pans on their cars out of aluminum and they are prone to dripping oil from the drain plug. A minor inconvenience. My daughter had been having the oil serviced by STRONG VW Dealer in Salt Lake City when it developed drain plug leak the first time. The Dealer replaced the oil pan. This last time I changed the oil the drain plug developed a small drip. This was remedied by placing Teflon tape on the threads of the drain plug and washer and the drip was completely eliminated. I will include extra drain plugs as I replace them each time and will show you to keep this from leaving an oil drip in your garage. Also included will be extra German Oil filters for when you change the oil.The Starter will occasionally make a whirling noise as you release the key when starting when it is warm. This is a known and common problem on VW V6 engines. Does NOT affect starting and is not causing any damage.The little rust spot behind the drivers front tire. Again only cosmetic at this time and you can see them in the included pictures.Occasionally the Water temperature gage does not read the correct temperature, but as a backup there is the original warning light if the coolant level gets either too hot or the level needs to be serviced. That is it! You will be driving one amazing 2002 VW Jetta VR6 GLX that is loaded and drives like the fine VW European car that is! I hope you enjoy it as much as we have!
