As was common with Mercury vehicles, the Cougar shared basic platforms with Ford models. Originally, this was the Mustang, later the Thunderbird, and the last a version of the Contour. The \'72 Cougar XR-7 you see today is said to be a 93,931 original mile car that is finished in the original color combination of Bright Blue Metallic with White/Blue interior. The paint looks very good and shows no major spots of imperfections, just a few minor spots of touch up. The power white convertible top is equally as nice with no staining, rips or tears to the vinyl. The rear window is glass.Inside, the White/ Blue vinyl interior is the original for the car and in great condition. The carpet appears to have been replaced recently and is in great condition. The dash, door panels, arm rest and wood grain trim are all equally as nice with on major wear showing.Under the hood, the 351 cubic inch V8 runs great and starts with a turn of the key. The motor is said to be the original for the car and still retains its original 2 barrel carburetor, power steering, power disc brakes and air conditioning. The air conditioning is currently inoperable but it appears to only be in need of a charge. The engine is nicely detailed and very original. No damage to be found. The motor is connected to the three speed automatic transmission which shifts smoothly and performs with no problems.Under the car is very solid with no rot that we have seen. It appears to be all original metal under this original southern car. The VIN is 2F94H517485 and the mileage currently shows 93,931, which is believed to be original for the car.
