1970 Ford Bronco (4x4): The original Bronco was an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle), intended to compete primarily with Jeep CJ models and the International Harvester Scout. The Bronco's small size riding on a 92-inch (2,337 mm)  wheelbase made it popular for off-roading. The Bronco was Ford's first compact SUV, and Ford's compact and midsize SUV niche would be taken by the compact pickup based Ford Bronco II (1984--1990), Ford Explorer (1991--present) and the  Ford Escape (2001--present). The idea behind the Bronco began with Ford product manager Donald N. Frey, who also conceived of the Ford Mustang; and similarly, Lee Iacocca pushed the idea through into production. In many ways, the  Bronco was a more original concept than the Mustang; whereas the Mustang was based upon the Ford Falcon, the Bronco had a frame, suspension, and body that were not shared with any other vehicle. The Bronco was designed under engineer  Paul G. Axelrad. Although the axles and brakes were sourced from the Ford F-100 four wheel drive pickup truck, the front axle was located by radius arms (from the frame near the rear of the transmission forward to the axle) and a  lateral track bar, allowing the use of coil springs that gave the Bronco a 34-foot (10.4 m) turning circle, long wheel travel, and an anti-dive geometry which was useful for snowplowing. The rear suspension was more conventional, with  leaf springs in a typical Hotchkiss design. A shift-on the-fly Dana Corp. transfer case and locking hubs were standard, and heavy-duty suspension was an option. The early Broncos from 1966-1977 had a relatively small production of 203,535 Wagons leaving the assembly line in total with only 16,750 Broncos Wagons making their way to new homes in 1970. Exactly 45 years after the first owner  of this Bronco proudly took delivery; it has been restored to what we would describe as "strong driver" quality and is ready to make a great weeekend vehicle for the new owners. The restoration of this 98k original mile Bronco started  in mid-2012 when the previous owner, also in Texas, performed an extensive refresh and tune up of the drivetrain, wheel bearings, brakes, Dana 30 front end, suspension, and new fuel system. This quickly added up to a $5,650 tab in under a  year. The expenses put into the Bronco were well worth every penny as they greatly improved the truck's reliability and drivability. When we purchased the Bronco it still needed the cosmetics addressed so it was sent out for a complete repaint in the middle of 2015. As luck would have it we found areas that seemed "sub-par" in comparison to the Bronco's shinny new red exterior so we let the build get a little out of hand. The Bronco rolls on a BRAND NEW SET of PACER 15” 8-hole show chromed rims that are wrapped in new GOODYEAR Wrangler RWL tires sized 31x10.50R 15LT all the way around. The tires are PERFECT for the Bronco, and have a great look without being unruly when you drive it! Overall, the exterior of this truck is stunning, and when you roll into a parking lot, heads turn and the cell phone camera’s flash because not many people have seen a Bronco as nice as this one! Pop the hood pins and open up the hood to a really clean and well done engine bay that is ready to start and take you anywhere! The factory 302 FORD motor is clean, neat, and more than presentable, even without a detail. It was treated to new valve cover gaskets, new intake gasket, new plugs, new distributor, new hoses, new plug wires, new alternator, new starter, new Holley Carb, new radiator, radiator shroud, fan, clamps, belt, hoses, and lines. It has the stock air cleaner/breather system which works and looks great. It had its second full fluid service since break-in and initial fluid change on 6/15/2015, and is ready to roll with about 800 miles since then, 200 or so of those being put on by me personally! It is running 10W30 here in Florida, but you can change it to whatever fits your climate the best. It has a new (6/2015) Duralast GOLD battery with 550CCA and new cables and ground strap. Factory date coded jack with handle resides on the driver side fender and works like it should. New brake master cylinder and lines, along with new shoes all around helps it stop on a dime. Brakes are correctly adjusted so that it doesn’t pull, wander, or jerk when you use them. The engine starts with a quick turn of the key, idles cleanly, and has no skip, burble, or stutter to it. Snick the 3-speed transmission into gear, and she is ready to go wherever you want! Each gear change is smooth and easy, and power comes on as needed with just a press of your right foot. No drama, no issues. Just drive it. I have personally put about 200 miles on this Bronco, and finally had to stop because I knew I had to take pictures of it and get it out in the marketplace! It is a blast to drive, and does everything like it should. Power is smooth, shifts are smooth, it doesn’t even remotely get hot, even when idling in beach traffic for 40 minutes on a Sunday, and everything on and in it works like it should. Ride is nice, thanks to NEW 5.5” long-travel coil springs up front, block lift on new springs out back, new shocks all around, and a dropped pitman arm, track bar, track bar bushings, dropped radius arms, and new bushings, bearings, and brackets, and more. It steers nice, doesn’t dance or snag wheel troughs, and is so easy to manage that my wife even wanted to take it to the store without being coerced! It has a completely rebuilt manual steering box, and the larger wheel and tire combo makes it super easy to turn, even at low speeds. The front tank was purposefully left out of the Bronco, as the prior owner had intended on putting a gun safe under that section, and never had the chance. The rear tank is new, as are the lines, and 2-way tank switch was left intact up front if you want to add one down the road. The entire chassis was treated to a VERY LIGHT COAT of Rhino –Liner material to protect it from rocks, debris, and rust. IT IS VERY LIGHT, AND YOU CAN STILL EASILY SEE ALL THE METAL ON THE FLOOR! It is solid, clean, and still shows the stamping marks on it to the naked eye. This is a very light coat, not a hiding coat like you see sometimes. The transfer case is a 300777-15 DANA-SPICER Model 20 with the serial tag still attached, and it was refurbished to stock specifications and works as it should. This unit has the 2:34.1 low range gear according to the prior owners notes, which would be correct for a model 20 in 1973 from what I found online. I have engaged both low and high aspects of the 4wd system in the grassy area behind our store, and it functions like it should. Overall, the chassis, engine bay, and mechanicals on the truck look great, perform like they should, and will not disappoint the new owner. Again, it has NOT been detailed by me, so you will see that the underside has some grime and dirt on it, and the grease from lubricating the rear diff got thrown up on the floor pan, so it will need wiped off. It is clean and solid, and a little time with a pressure washer and some towels will make it show exceptionally well when you get it home! Pull open the doors to reveal the interior, but don’t worry, they have NEW CATCH STRAPS to keep them from extending out too far! Tom’s Bronco was tapped for a complete new set of front and rear seats, and almost $1,300 later, the deluxe buckets and rear bench were installed with new hardware, seat tracks, and seat belts! They look amazing, are super easy to keep clean, and are as comfortable as most modern cars are to sit it! Tom’s also supplied the matching dual sun visors, brake pedal, clutch pedal, gas pedal, high beam floor switch with wiring harness, and a new rear view mirror. The original steering column is topped by the original steering wheel, which looks amazing and has a fully functional horn too! The shifter arm, 4x4 shift arm, and signal arm are original, and work great! Dash is clean, neat, and painted to match, and has a fully functional speedometer and odometer on it, along with inset gauges for TEMP, FUEL, OIL, and ALTERNATOR that all appear to be working as they should. Speedometer surround is original and worn, but the prior owner didn’t want to replace it. You can either restore it, paint it, leave it, or replace it if you want, and all of those options have a minimal cost involved. All of the other switches on the car work like they should, including: *LIGHT SWITCH – PARKING AND HEADLAMPS WORK, PLUS FOOT HIGH BEAM SWITCH *HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH WORKS *TWO SPEED ELECTRIC WIPERS WORK, AS DO THE WASHER SPRAY NOZZLES. *KEY SWITCH AND LIGHT WORK *VENT CONTROLS FOR DRIVER AND PASSNEGER SIDE WORK *FAN SWITCH CONTROL FOR HEATER/DEFROST WORKS The original window rollers were kept, as they look really good for being 42 years old, and the original door arm rest pads were kept for mainly sentimental reasons. They are both fully functional, but I would replace them just to make everything come up to the level of the rest of this Bronco. Door panels themselves are painted in the Smoke Gray for contrast, and have all new stainless hardware on them. New interior door pulls, and door pull cups look fantastic too, and function like they should. Door jambs are clean and hinges are lithium grease lubricated. Bottoms of the doors show wonderfully, as do the jambs and rockers. The entire floor of the Bronco is bare metal, and you can see how solid, straight, rust, and rot free it is from the top or the bottom!!!! I didn’t want to put rubber matting or carpet in this, because it is kind or a personal choice, so I thought the new owner could pick if they didn’t like the bare metal. Rear lift gate opens easily, and the factory stops work to keep it in the open spot until you want it down. Tail gate opens like it should, and it is as solid as new inside, at the pivot points, and all around. Tail gate and lift gate hardware and arms are original and in perfect working order, but not as clean and pretty as the rest of the new stuff on this machine. The fiberglass top is in fantastic condition, and is painted in the Smoke Gray color. I have never had it removed, but from what I can see, it is in phenomenal condition, with no known issues. Key locks the hatch and doors like it should, with another for the ignition. This Bronco is one bad machine, and every time I have taken it out for a spin, someone stops me for a photo, to tell me a story, or just to marvel at it! When money is not an objection, and you want it to be done right, this is the kind of ride you end up with! Very desirable barn find original paint, unmolested Bronco with the 351 engine. This truck has the ideal Manual locking hubs in working condition. 31x10.5 Westlake tires with low miles on them, great tread left! Clean AutoCheck Vehicle History report. Truck is CLEAN underneath! This generation bronco is RARE, check for yourself on Ebay, only 6 other 3rd Gen Broncos for sale! This truck was in a photo shoot for jean company Cult of Individuality! (photo #2) Pictures were in their Fall 2014 Lookbook and used to be featured around their website. Behind the scenes photos can still be found on photographer Hassan Kinley's personal website. Beautiful bench seats front and rear, perfect for packing in everyone for a trip to the beach, or cruising around on a friday night with the lady in close. I recently had the following work done to the Bronco: Flushed and changed all the fluids, new brakes all around, new shocks up front, new valve cover gaskets, new Moog radius arm bushings, more powerful Saginaw power steering pump swap, new thermostat and water pump, new U joints and centering yoke, new outer tie rods, new rear power window motor with upgraded bushings, new weatherstripping almost all around, new front rotors and hub assemblies, a complete tune-up, and many other fixes. Original jack with handle under the hood. Original factory AM/FM radio in great condition. Presets and all work. I have OEM Bronco front fender emblems, previous owner removed from vehicle, they have not been put back on. Original engine and transmission (both rebuilt, unknown mileage). Odometer is only 5 digit and shows 91,600, but I do not know how many times it has rolled over. This truck is mostly original. Very few items have been modified or upgraded. Changes that have been made: Very rare stock Ford under hood tool box. I have been offered a few hundred dollars for this box alone. It is a great way to safely store some quick tools or part under the hood. New front and rear speakers. Didn't want to, but the originals just were no longer cutting it. Original interior was ripped out (ripped up and old vinyl flooring and ripped up cloth seats), the bare metal floors were lightly sanded, cleaned, and painted with Rust Bullet Black Shell paint (Last picture) to create a super strong rust proof floor. The floors and rear fender walls were then layered with sound dampening material before the flooring was laid down. All new Vinyl flooring from Bronco Graveyard, and seats were replaced with great condition black vinyl seats. I will include both the original black carpeted lower door kick panels, as well as some custom vinyl kick panels I made that look amazing, just not installed (I would recommend some self tapping stainless steel sheet metal screws would look sharp). Dash pad was cracked up like most Broncos of this generation at the 5th speaker area, so all chipped vinyl was removed off of dash pad, and applied a fiberglass resin over the top. It looks pretty good, but I think it would look better with a skim coat of bondo to smooth it out, and repainted for a real slick look. I added a manual choke for cold start, can fire right up if sitting for a few days. I did the Saginaw pump swap, you can use 2 fingers at idle to turn wheels back and forth, great for offroading. I had plans to add hydroboost brakes, but never got there. Again, I am sure I am forgetting things, but I will try to add info as it comes to me. This Bronco is in excellent condition. Body needs minor attention. In most areas, the paint is in great condition for being original (please see pictures for issue with passenger side door and hood where attention should be addressed to). Tires are less than 2 years old and have very little wear/miles on them. Comes with a full size spare. Truck just passed NYS inspection this week. If vehicle is purchased in NY, I have the NYS parks 4x4 beach fishing permit that is very desirable in the summertime, but unable to be attained this late in the season I will include. Nice Ford Racing headers and air cleaner. Not pictured, I have a rear cargo area pan to protect the rear vinyl flooring also included in purchase. Since I have purchased this truck over 2 years ago, it has been babied. I bought it from a guy who got it as a real barn find. Literally the truck sat in a barn for years, which is why it is so clean. Never taken offroad by me. I put a lot of money into this truck, with the intention of bringing it to local shows. Now, I will try and highlight everything that needs attention: Engine runs hot. I dont know how easy/hard this repair could be. I have tried everything within my ability to resolve the issue (flush radiator, new thermostat, new water pump). No problems in winter, but runs hot in 85 degree plus weather, or stop n go driving. I keep an infrared thermometer in the truck to monitor the temp. It appears the radiator is removing the heat, but sometimes can get really hot, so I shut it down to avoid doing any damage. Windshield wiper pump not functioning (I have a new pump in box, I never got around to replacing it, this is included in sale). Rear window goes up and down great 90% of the time. Sometimes it feels like it is getting hung up on the wiring harness in the tailgate, and you will have to change directions briefly to continue closing window. AC is not cold enough. This is an 85, so it uses R12, not R134. I had some R12 in a tank and added what I had, it made it cooler, but I did not have enough. I feel like this should mean a full charge will cause functioning AC, but I cannot confirm that info. Previous owner sanded down part of the passenger side door for some reason(see pictures). And the hood has a dent on the passenger side (looks like someone tried to shut it with a tool in the fender?). Other than that, the overall paint is in good condition for its age (it is a 30 year old truck). Gas tank sending unit is probably bad, very common. I track the gas in the tank based off the mileage, since the gauge is inaccurate. All other gauges appear to respond properly. I made new rear inner panels, but they were not made great. I would recommend replacing them at some point. Hard top clips and bolts could use new ones. Previous owner lost some of the originals, and I replaced some with larger generic clips/bolts, but never loved how it came out. I wanted to get all OEM clips and bolts, but never got them. I have the trim that goes over them, I was going to paint them black to go better with the interior, but never did. They come with the truck, but uninstalled. You can smell exhaust, and the engine is loud. I believe this to simply be an exhaust donut gasket. Not a hard fix, just soak the bolts as long as you can ahead of time to prevent breaking them, and take your time, as those bolts can break during that job, making it 100x harder. Previous owner cut all vacuum lines associated with the smog system(this is a common hotrod technique to increase horsepower). All smog components are still there, ie charcoal canister, but vacuum lines were cut. Be sure to know your local smog laws. Most states do not check smog on vehicles over 25 years. Anyone familiar with this generation truck knows that the gas filler neck has a small exhaust tube compared to the newer trucks, so you cannot fill the gas tank at full gas pump speed. You have to throttle the pump handle in order to fill the tank. I do have a gas filler neck from a 92 Bronco available for an additional cost to the purchaser of the truck (easy replacement. 3 screws and 1 hose clamp to swap). This vehicle needs to be seen to fully appreciate, and would welcome anyone interested to view and drive vehicle before purchasing. Disregard all stains on the driveway. I underestimated the amount of oil in the truck and did not have a big enough drip pan during a recent oil change lol. Don't hesitate to email me with any questions. From 20 feet out shes absolutely stunning, but just like any 25 year old car some wear is to be expected when you get very close up. Runs and drives without any check engine lights or other warning lights. AC and heat work. Passenger window does not work and is either a window motor, regulator, or a switch. Brand new tires just installed and a full service was also done. We purposely took over 80 pictures and of every angle so that you can see the car with clarity and presicion. The oval Ford emblem is missing on the front grill and on the trunk lid and we have ordered them on ebay for $12 each. Also, the fender emblem "BRONCO" is also missing and we are locating this part also. The Interior shows its wear but is in fair condition. To make this car much cleaner a carpet replacement would be nice for $150 plus an hour install... but not necessary. The seats shows typical wear. All the glass on the car including the rear glass are perfeclty intact and the rear glass goes up and down smoothly. Most Broncos with such miles/condition sell between $6,000-$10,000.
