The first Japanese sedan to implement a V6 engine, designed in partnership with Land Rover, and the first top of the line Luxury car to represent Japan as a competitor in the sport luxury business. With precise braking, smooth shifting on the close ratio gear box, and sporty pickup (even when the car is full), the car blew the market out of the water and started a new era of Japanese luxury that other manufactures soon followed suit in. Ahead of it's time, it has features like four programmable presets on the full spectrum EQ, on dash Audio controls, brake light out indicators, cruise control, and four interior compartments within reach of the drivers seat (not including ashtrays). Modern amenities such as a wireless entry, wireless trunk release, and an alarm system make this car a convenient hybrid of classic and modern eras. Absolutely gorgeous ~~ PCGB means powder coated gloss black, PCMS means powder coated metallic silverEngine/Suspension -Tuned on Chrome, made 208WHP 138TQ with the HF cat as I forgot to take it off when a second tune was done on 4/26/14 after a few more tweaks and still has a lot of potential to make more. Tuned by Jeremy at Redzone at his new shop in Antioch, only filled with Chevron 91, gets between 26-30MPG. There is ABSOLUTELY no drippy drippy, no burning of oil, loss of coolant or anything. Knock yourself out if you want to do a leak down test, compression test, white glove test or otherwise. -No need to worry about bearings or rings because it has a brand new from the factory B18C5 short block, cost a pretty penny. Installed at 213037 miles-B16 head, ported/polished by Alaniz. Prior to mating it with the new ITR block had it torn down, tanked, inspected etc. Has Supertech valves/springs/retainers, Skunk Tuner 3 cams, Skunk2 cam gears, newer style ITR LMAs and a few other goodies installed-Used all new OEM parts during install including head gasket, timing belt, tensioner etc-ARP head studs-PCMS and shaved old school Skunk ITR intake manifold that was also worked over by Alaniz. IAT sensor is on the same runner but on the bottom of the manifold. All holes/un-needed casting marks were shaved prior to powder coat. Paired with a Hondata thermal gasket-PCMS Skunk Alpha 70MM throttle body-RC 440 injectors sent to RC for cleaning/inspection/balancing when new C5 block installed. New fuel filter installed with install of block.-AEM Fuel rail and regulator, PCGB-Ceramic coated Headertech header (old school) with a DC sports carb plate welded on (Passed a cops eye many times)-Kteller 2.5 inch exhaust, Vibrant flat black muffler-Brand new MSD 6A ignition-MSD spark plug wires-Stock GSR trans with a Quaife LSD installed with stock gearing. Only ever used OEM trans fluid, Skunk magnetic drain plug. Tore it down, inspected it and cleaned the magnets (yes 2) prior to the most recent install. Shifts like butter, no issues as you can see from the pictures-LSD Motorsports stage 2/tuner series full faced sprung clutch matted with a LSD Motorsports steel flywheel. Clutch was brand new when installed with current build, flywheel was cleaned/balanced prior to install-PCMS AEM short ram intake (currently on the car) with CARB sticker in place-Innovative motor mounts, Avid torque mounts-Shaved and PCGB Godspeed radiator-Tons of stainless steel bolts and washers including a Bolt Boys dress up kit. I am not going to list what is now SS, look at the picts. What isn't SS has been switched to Zinc, bolts for engine to trans are OEM-Shaved OEM valve cover with custom baffle welded in, painted with VHT black wrinkle for the OEM look. You either get this valve cover or it's sister which is cut for cam gear adjustment-DIY tuning catch can. Catch can and battery tray are both PCGB-PCGB sub frame, rear mount, front sway bar and otherwise-PCGB AC/PS/Alternator to engine mounts. PCGB trans mount-Newer PCGB clutch slave-Prototype B&R fittings brake line tuck kit. Not sure why this didn't go into production because it works perfect-Tucked clutch slave line-Spoolin performance traction bar, PCGB-Ground control coilovers mated with Koni yellow-PCGB extended top hats-Skunk rear lower control arms-Skunk rear lower tie arm-Rear DC sports upper tie bar, PCGB-Blackworks front and rear camber kit, installed at 212616 miles-All bushings in the front are Prothane, installed at 210959 miles. I drilled, tapped and put in zerk fittings so they are easy to maintain. -Prothane rear trailing arm bushings installed at 214952 miles. Alignment done at 215009 miles, everything is at the stock specs. Exterior--Fully shaved exterior, except the door handles. No emblem holes, no door guards, no antenna hole, no rear wiper hole etc. You get the point-Used top of the line PPG paint/clear, clear and paint alone cost me around a G-Brand new PPG windshield with OEM trim installed at 214952 miles. Still crystal clear-Converted to 98-01 style front and rear bumpers, rear tails and front headlights (No broken tabs)-ITR replica front and rear lips, OEM ITR skirts. Spent a lot of money to get the front and rear to fit right, looks OEM-Tinted windows to eliminate fish bowl look-Rear wiper delete -Rota Grids powder coated a custom bronze color with red, blue and green metallic flake. There is no color like this-Yokohama S drive 205/50 R15 mounted on the grids, installed at 212616 miles-Prelude dual piston front brake upgrade, front and rear pads are Axis PBR DeluxeInterior--Corbeau LG1 racing seats, black, with Corbeau adjustable rails. Installed the same time of the tires and camber kit-ITR door panels-Airbag delete tray-Rear seats removed with custom panels installed to cover all sheet metal (Can reinstall seats as all OEM mounting points etc left in place/un-modified)-Sound deadening installed to entire rear and front up to firewall (It's nice to have a convo in the car without yelling)-Full size spare, tools etc in place under panels-Dual gauge pod with VDO mech oil pressure gauge and RPM adjustable shift light. Shift light comes on just before CEL flashes as programmed by Chrome software-Entire interior changed to black. Plastic pieces sprayed with SEM Landau black, roof liner covered in fabric etc. OEM dash in place with matching VIN-Factory cruise control tucked and fully functioning-Custom tucked AC lines installed with new AC condenser and compressor installed at 210616miles. Good luck finding a car with an AC setup like mine that works just as good as OEMFullyrecharged/new dryer installed at217281 miles. Blows ice cold Note- if you plan on running the AC, per my AC line builder, you have to run both fans. In the winter you can take the dual setup off and run the fan in front of the condenser. -Alpine 2 way speakers front and rear, OEM tweeters-JVC deck-Antenna mounted inside rear driver side window. Works as good as OEM-All interior lights switch to pure white LED lights (Not the cheap ones)-OEM black carpet with Lloyds floor mat in the front -Odyssey PC925 battery installed in spare tire well with PCGB mount Extras included with the car:-Valve adjustment tool, crank pulley tool and a few other useful tools-Haynes manual-Test pipe with HF cat installed. Currently has a test pipe on the car with a cat body to look unmodified but is straight pipe-2 sets of MSD sparkplug wires. One set is NIB, the other was only used for diagnostics-Extra NIB MSD cap and rotor -PCMS AEM ITR 3 inch CAI with a Blox velocity stack and real K&N filter. Has a generic CARB sticker, good enough to pass a visual-Vented valve cover cut for cam gear adjustments. Exact same venting set up and shaved the same as the one currently on the car. I got a 98 acura integra ls 4dr with a rebuilt gsr swap and tuned @ PSI PROformance. I believe I'm the 3rd owner of the vehicle..Many parts have went into the rebuild. Machining of new block, new crank, acl/clevite main/rod bearings, oem & aftermarket internals and gaskets/seals, new belts and timing, tensioner, NEW EXEDY CLUTCH KIT, new flywheel, new man. trans fluid, just recently did another oil change on her since rebuild. Has still has a/c (recharged and fresh) and also has power steering too. Has aftermarket wheels, good but now used tires. Recent and Current Inspection. GSR engine has less than 10,000 miles on her. Has tinted windows, has power locks and windows and a Autopage 2way LCD alarm installed. Has a type r front lip. I have INSTALL AND INCLUDED BRAND NEW MUD FLAPS FOR ALL AROUND. Wont be including any sound equipment...so bring a radio to have tunes. Car has 19xxxx mileage on body and less than 10,000 miles on engine BUT SHE IS MY DAILY DRIVER. She was converted for OBD2a to OBD1. She was rebuilt to be a reconditioned gsr engine. Just a mild tune due to short ram intake and aftermarket exhaust mods. She makes 151hp now but with an upgraded intake manifold and delete the cat. Convertor, she'll run at 185hp with proper RE-tune. Then if you boost, the more potential. New heater core, thermostat and all hoses. New clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. New front pads/rotors. HID kit 8000k. Angel eye headlights. Car has a sunroof/moonroof. She runs only on premium gas only....Yes obviously she has had a full tune up when she was rebuilt. Keeping pace with the competition, the 2012 TL offers a new sequential 6-speed transmission with paddle shifters in both versions, as well as the 6-speed manual in the fast TL SH-AWD 6MT. Electronic steering is standard, as is drive-by-wire throttle control. The Acura TL features a comprehensive list of technological conveniences. Its eight-inch screen offers voice-recognition navigation. AcuraLink provides direct satellite connection with Acura's roadside assistance as well as real-time traffic information and rerouting, real-time weather with radar-image maps, alerts for severe weather and full weather forecasts. All the usual electronics are present, including satellite radio, Bluetooth audio, hands-free phone link, a hard-disc drive for storage of 3,500 songs, speed-sensitive volume and more. Similarly, the TL is well equipped with all the contemporary active and passive safety features, and its interior appointments will satisfy those looking for deluxe accommodations. The front two seats have individual climate controls, and the driver's seat offers 10-way adjustability (including two-way lumbar support). The passenger seat has eight-way adjustability. Elegant leather upholstery and supportive, finely bolstered seats produce a secure, comfortable environment. One of the most compelling arguments for the Acura TL is price. Following established Acura/Honda marketing practices, instead of starting with a low stripper base-model price, then offering a broad array of extra-cost additional features, Acura offers fully equipped cars packed with all the most attractive features. Our 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD Advance test car was a perfect example. It contained all the basic equipment, plus the bundled Tech Package and Advance Package, for just a tick below $46,000. And as we got to know the TL, we discovered it had the crisp precision of a medical instrument. Like a medical instrument, however, for some, this car will feel a little short on the automotive abstracts, verve, charisma, charm. It is superbly engineered, and when driven hard, it will accomplish a great deal. Yet some TL competitors, the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series, Audi A4 and A6, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class, effortlessly elicit a warm smile. But the TL styling, which is to some, awkward and heavy-handed, will command little more than a short nod. Many will find the TL distinctive and self-defined, while others will find it lacking in gracefulness. The two stainless-steel, upturned slabs of stainless steel above the grille, matched by similar shapes at the rear, define the car's identity at even great distance. And the wheel arches, flared aggressively to enclose wide P245 tires (on 17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels, depending on the configuration selected) are radiused and knife-edged. They lack the rounded, muscular dynamism seen in some of their competition. The exterior styling is angular rather than flowing, a characteristic many will love, but not everyone. On the positive side, in profile, the forward-thrusting stance of the TL is athletic and very much in keeping with this performance sedan's personality. Headlight and taillight arrays wrap around the edges of the nose and tail dynamically. Xenon low-beam headlights are accompanied by halogen high beams, which serve as daytime running lights, operating at a lower voltage. The new lower front fascia contains revised fog lamps. Handsome five- or seven-spoke alloy wheels in various sizes are available. Twin-layer windshield glass and extra-thick side and rear windows are acoustically tuned to reduce wind noise. All are UV absorbent. And to ventilate the TL in hot sun, all four windows and the sunroof can be opened with the keyless remote. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComDriving ImpressionThe Acura TL SH-AWD model's 3.7-liter V6 makes a throaty grumble at start-up; its exhaust system is carefully tuned to sound more authoritative and more like a V8. The gear selector is a simple PRNDS, with no sidetrack for making individual +/- gear selections. To the contrary, as you get under way, a simple flip of the paddle shifters automatically overrides the usual automatic-transmission shift map, immediately giving you the gear you need. That is as it should be in a performance sedan. Throttle response is immediate and forceful. At normal cruising throttle, the drivetrain is pleasantly quiet, but the minute you tromp down on the throttle, you're reminded that this car is determined, if you are, to go very fast. Snugly tucked into the well-fitted seat, feeling very much in control, it's natural to exercise this engine, transmission and suspension vigorously. And the more you do so, the more clearly you recognize that wringing out this agile and powerful car might best be done on a racetrack. Acura claims an extremely grippy 0.97g of lateral acceleration on the skidpad, and in real-world driving, the TL's cornering force and stability are impressive. The big plus of our test TL was its brand-new and oddly named SH-AWD, which stands for the gee-whiz-sounding Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. We had occasion to test the Acura in some raw early-spring Northeast inclemency, a mix of rain and sleet that didn't test the system's hard-core snow-handling capability but nonetheless proved beyond doubt its high competence in similarly demanding conditions. Acura is proud not only of the system's snow traction but of its all-wheel-drive system's vector-guiding directional stability in any kind of slide-inducing conditions. Driven up to the limit on wet, slippery roads, the SH-AWD guided us with confidence-inspiring surefootedness. The system automatically delivers power to whichever wheel can help most in delivering control and driving the TL forward on its course. This Super Handling drive system is so good that it's tempting to begin thinking you're some kind of foul-weather driving phenomenon. The phenomenon isn't you; it's SH-AWD. The other standout quality of the Acura TL is its firm, excellent steering feel. It allows you to accurately feel everything that's happening on the road during hard driving. Yet it also lets you drive comfortably at more relaxed speeds, keeping you properly informed whenever something on the road surface demands closer attention. First class. The sharpened feel of the TL's steering and its alert ride, however, have a consequence that's not quite as happy. The TL ride is tuned to give the driver all necessary road information, and provided the road you're on is in the Sun Belt and billiard-table smooth, the news is all good. Driven on rougher roads caused by winter and frost heaves, however, the TL's ride is sharp and choppy. Conceding Acura's unquestioned ability to produce a superb-handling sporty sedan, the TL misses the real-world ride-quality compromise that will be best for many wintery parts of the U.S. This is in the purist sense an agile, fine-handling car, perhaps just a hair too fine. It could prophet from a little of the Europeans' finely calculated ride compliance; everyone, even the best of us, comes upon a rough road from time to time. As a near-luxury performance sedan, the Acura TL is well priced and inviting. Its engineering is excellent, and the experience of driving it is very good. But if all-wheel-drive peak performance is the buyer's motive, for only about $5000 more than our test SH-AWD Advance, an Audi S4 sedan, the definitive performance sedan, delivers the kind of visceral brilliance the Acura only hints at. That is another way of saying, the TL is properly priced. If getting a lot for less money is the measure, the Acura will continue to attract masses of buyers. It is a quality sedan of very great capabilities, delivering that little bit extra many buyers crave. And with good EPA figures of 18/26 mpg (the Audi S4 gets 18/27 mpg), our test car is well situated in the market during a time of rising fuel prices. As a smallish near-luxury sedan, the rear compartment is compact without being downright small. An available pass-through for skis behind the fold-down armrest is lockable for security. Rear headroom tapers downward quickly, following the sleek downward curve of the roofline. Handsome titanium-looking trim accents the doors and dashboard. The left side of the steering-wheel hub contains controls for the audio and phone with voice activation. On the right of the hub are controls for the cruise control and info panel, the latter displayed between the speedometer and tachometer. And as expected in a luxury Acura, the switchgear are handsome and of excellent quality. The key instruments, speedometer, tachometer, water temperature and fuel gauge, are on the small side but adequate and easily read. On the center stack at the top is the medium-sized display screen. It has been well shielded against daylight glare. Moving down the stack, the audio controls are next, and below these are the dual-zone climate controls. At the bottom are the navigation and connectivity controls. The nav is no-tricks simple and easy to use, with a straightforward top-view map. The screen can also be used to deliver full information about XM/Sirius or other audio programming being used, and real-time traffic and weather data can also be displayed. The front compartment is comfortable without being huge, and the richness of the colored leather contributes to a feeling of snugness. The seats are snug without feeling constricting. We found they hold you firmly in position and promote fully alert driving. Hot and cool seat controls for the front seats are on the center console. Concealed in the front elbow rest compartment is a power outlet. And in the glovebox is a keyless-access control switches off the remote system for both the cabin and the trunk. The Acura TL SH-AWD Advance we drove is by its own lights a near-luxury performance sedan, which is reflected in its attractive pricing. You begin seeing the tiny telltales of this car's modesty the moment you adjust your seat. It has only two driver's-seat memory settings, whereas the competition a few thousand dollars up the ladder commonly provides three memory settings.
