Those of us of a certain age remember the 205 GTI 1.9 as being THE hot hatch to have in the late 80s and early 90s. The 205 GTI gets all the plaudits now (and values of pristine cars have rocketed of late), but back then it was the 309 GTI that had the motoring magazines enthusing about it's combination of gutsy performance and pin-sharp handling. Autocar and Motor magazine named it "Best Hot Hatch" 3 years in a row, and in 1991 a 309 GTI won the Esso Superlube Saloon Car Championship, beating BMW E30 M3s and Ford Sierra Cosworths on the way to the title. The 309 GTI was produced in a limited numbers of just 5300 cars produced by early 1992, and featured Italian Red paint, Speedline alloy wheels with polished rims, full black with red accents interior, GTI badges, a leather-rimmed MOMO steering wheel . It had just 1 owner and 58K kilometers, and in near perfect order. and preserved in time-warp condition. According to 309 registry, there are just over 2000 309 GTI currently on the road,. Compared with the 6,000 or so 205 GTIs still around , the 309 GTI is a very rare model, and so to find one that has been preserved in standard, unmodified condition is very special indeed. Here is our assessment of the condition of the car: Exterior bodywork and paint The Ilaian RED paint is in fantastic condition, with a deep shine and virtually no blemishes. There are no dents on the body panels. The bumpers and side rubbing strips are all in excellent condition, as are the spotlights and foglights to the front spoiler. There are a couple of very minor mark to the rear quarter, only visible upon very close inspection. The GTI badges are all perfect. Chassis and structure The underside of the car is very clean, with the factory applied underseal and paint in excellent condition. The wheelarches are also very clean and all original. I can find no corrosion on the bodyshell at all, or any evidence of any previous repairs. Engine and gearbox Like travelling back 20 years! The torque-rich 1.9 XU9 engine burbles away at idle, has a lovely crisp throttle response and delivers punchy acceleration through the close ratio 5-speed gearbox. The clutch and gearbox change action both feel fresh and much more like a 2 year old car than a 26 year old one! All fluids are clean and to the correct levels, the car having been fully serviced in January 2015, including a brake fluid change. Unlike any other Goodwood I have seen in the past few years, it does NOT feature an aftermarket exhaust or an induction kit - just the standard items specified by Peugeot. Steering, ride, handling & brakes Absolutely superb throughout. The steering is direct, communicative and full of feel, the ride is supple, combining soft spring rates with taut damping, so at everyday pace the Goodwood feels civilized and comfortable. Turn up the wick a bit and the whole car comes alive, with fabulous neutral handling, no understeer to speak of, and wonderful balance through the bends. The brakes are perfectly matched to the weight of the car, delivering stability and confidence to the driver. All in all, it's a lovely thing to drive along an A or B road, and it doesn't need to be driven at warp factor 10 to deliver a fantastic driving experience! Interior, dash and controls The seats are in excellent supple condition, showing no visible wear, just a few subtle creases to mark the passage of time. The dashboard is very clean and surprisingly creak/rattle free for a 90's Peugeot. There is a blanking plate for the fuses I have had to replace the glovebox lid, as these are notorious for snapping their catches. The correct replacement lid fits perfectly. The original-fit Clarion PU-9318A radio/cassette unit is unfortunately no longer with the car, a more modern CD unit is fitted instead. All the gauges, controls and electrics work as they should. The doorcards and carpets are in perfect condition. The vacuum sealed glass sunroof works correctly, and the headlining is unmarked. As far as I can tell, the car has never been smoked in. Wheels and tyres The GTI only Speedline alloy wheels are in excellent condition, with no kerbing to the polished rims and no marks to the painted face of the wheels. The tyres are Bridgestones all around. The spare wheel is also in great condition, with a new budget tyre fitted History and paperwork The car comes with it's original Peugeot book pack, including Owner's Handbook, Maintenance Record and Dealer Location Guide. The Maintenance Record shows service stamps, the first 8 from the supplying Peugeot main dealer. Summary A very rare car indeed, and one which is as exhilarating to drive now as it was when new. Remaining in pristine condition throughout, this classic "hot hatch" has benefited from the care and attention of a long term owner from new, which has helped it avoid ever being "just an old Peugeot". It has moved seamlessly from cherished new car to cherished modern classic, and may well be unique in that respect as so few Goodwoods were ever produced. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable... we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money." - The Autocar What would turn out to be the final glorious incarnation of Jaguar's fabulous 'XK' series of sports cars arrived in 1957. As its nomenclature suggests, the XK150 was a progressive development of the XK120 and XK140, retaining the same basic chassis, 3.4-liter engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors while benefiting from a new, wider body that provided increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen, replacing the XK140's divided screen. Cleverly, the new body used many XK120/140 pressings, the increased width being achieved by means of a 4"-wide central fillet. A higher front wing line and broader radiator grille were other obvious differences, but the new model's main talking point was its Dunlop disc brakes. Fade following repeated stops from high speed had been a problem of the earlier, drum-braked cars, but now the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed and drophead coupé forms, the open roadster version not appearing until the following year. At 190bhp, the engine's maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. 'Special Equipment' and 'S' versions came with 210 and 250bhp respectively, the latter delivering an astonishing 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. This was achieved by the introduction of the Weslake-developed 'straight-port' cylinder head, high-compression pistons, triple 2" SU carburetors and twin electric fuel pumps. In the autumn of 1959 the XK150 became available with the 3.8-liter engine first seen in the Mark IX saloon. 'Standard' (220bhp) or 'S' (265bhp) states of tune were offered and, in either form, the XK150's increased weight was more than offset by the power of the larger engine, the car regularly recording in excess of 130mph in magazine road tests. This fine XK150 Drophead Coupe is one of the very coveted 3.8-liter models. The car's previous owner had a desire to upgrade the Jaguar to be even sportier, and had the car thoroughly refurbished with several tasteful upgrades. Michigan-based Jaguar specialist Bill Terry fitted a custom fuel injection system on the matching-numbers 3.8-liter engine, as well as performing other engine work. A cleverly engineered system with Bosch injectors hidden in the intake manifold, utilizing the butterfly throttles of the SU carburetors for air, the fuel management is handled by a Simple Digital Systems ECU. This is a construction that is hard to recognize from the outside but helps in both reliability and performance, especially if driving at altitude. The original 4-speed overdrive Moss gearbox has been replaced with a modern 5-speed transmission, and an upgraded clutch was installed. It should be noted that the original numbers-matching transmission is included in the sale of the car. Air conditioning is gracefully integrated into the dash, and under-hood heat is managed by a custom designed system that extracts hot air through hidden pumps and dumps it out through vents in the front fenders. Other upgrades include a variable electric power steering system, an alloy radiator, and a modern alternator. The XK150 presented here has been fitted with the desirable E-Type Series I bucket seats neatly fitted with period correct Burgundy leather, combined with the walnut dash from an XK140 and a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel. This Jaguar has a tasteful interior where one can spend many hours enjoying this all-time British favorite.

The engine features direct fuel injection, which is a first for Ferrari mid-engine setups in its road cars.[5] Transmission The only transmission available on the 458 is a dual-clutch 7-speed GETRAG gearbox, with a unique software package by Ferrari to extract the highest level of performance and while maintaining long-term durability. Handling The car's suspension features double wishbones at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, coupled with E-Diff and F1-Trac traction control systems, designed to improve the car's cornering and longitudinal acceleration by 32% when compared with its predecessors. The brakes include a prefill function whereby the pistons in the calipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimize delay in the brakes being applied. This combined with the ABS and standard Carbon Ceramic brakes have caused a reduction in stopping distance from 100–0 km/h (62-0 mph) to 32.5 metres (107 ft). Tests have shown the car will stop from 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 90 feet (85 with run flat tires), 85 feet from 60 mph (97 kmph) and 80 feet from 60 mph (97 kmph) with run flat tires. The adaptive magnetorheological dampers are sublime whether on the smoothest racetracks or the bumpiest of mountain passes. Performance Ferrari's official 0–62 mph acceleration is a breathtaking 2.9 seconds, while top speed is in excess of 200 mph. Design The small aeroelastic winglets generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator intake and cut drag. In keeping with Ferrari tradition the body was designed by Pininfarina. The car’s exterior styling and features were designed for aerodynamic efficiency, producing downforce of 309 lbs at 124 miles per hour. In particular, the front grille features deformable winglets that lower at high speeds, in order to offer reduced drag. The car's interior was designed using input from former Ferrari Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher; in a layout common to racing cars, the new steering wheel incorporates many controls normally located on the dashboard or on stalks, such as turning signals or high beams. According to British car magazine Autocar, the 458 Italia's design has drawn inspiration from the Enzo Ferrari and its Millechili concept car. It has been designed to be Ferrari's sportiest V8-engined car, to distinguish itself from the recently launched Ferrari California. The 458 was also reviewed on 15th season of Top Gear, where it received acclaim for its styling and performance. In a drag race against James May's Ferrari F430, it won by a considerable margin. The car also lapped the Top Gear test track in 1:19.1, just 0.1 second slower than the Ferrari Enzo.
