It had been sitting for a few months or so and we put some gas in it and a new battery and it only took 1 or 2 tries to get it started. After that I just had to drive it around some and have been having a ball with it. Like I said it has been sitting for a little while so I would not take it on a cross country trip just yet..;-)The exterior of this car is clean, but the paint is dry and faded and the wood grain done at some point, but is not all rusty or anything it has just been sitting out in the sun, like I show in the video below. Or you can leave it and drive it like it is...;-) It has more room than most people need and even has the 3rd Row Rear Facing Back Seat. So you will have room enough for everone. Or lay the middle seat down and it would also make a great work truck/wagon. There is plent of room for just about anything you would need to haul. Car has a salvage title due to getting hit on the right front fender and bumper - since body parts are not available new, these total easily, but I hoard parts for these cars and good parts which I installed. Boasting GM's Corvette inspired multiport injected 5.7L LT1 V8 engine and 4L60E 4 speed automatic transmission, she puts down plenty of power. Tow package 2.93 limited slip rear end (GW9 & G80 build codes). Trailer preparation "tow package" means the factory rated the car to pull 5000 lbs but has no hitch (despite trailer prep name, these did not come from the factory with hitches so all hitches are aftermarket.) Underhood sheet metal and tailgate sill and door jambs (areas where these cars tend to rust) are flawless as seen in pics. Aluminum wheels are in good shape with no pitting but a little staining. INTERIOR: Interior of the car is very nice and reflective of low miles. Dash has no cracks and is still shiny. Leather seating areas are in great shape, leather is still soft, some wear on driver's seat as seen in pics. Carpet in seating area is very nice, cargo deck carpet in good shape. Headliner is nice - not sagging - no tears. Steering wheel is in nice shape. No smoke or pet odors. Has all four factory floormats in super nice shape. Exceptionally nice interior overall. ELECTRICAL STUFF: All inspection items work (lights, horn, wipers, etc.) The power antenna doesn't work (you can raise and lower manually), but all other power options work reliably, including power windows, power locks, dual power seats with power recliners and power lumbar control, hot heat and cold A/C, tilt, cruise, am/fm stereo cassette, keyless entry, rear window release, rear wiper, twilight sentinel, intermittent wipers, and rear defroster. DRIVEABILITY: Drives out very nicely as you'd expect of low miles. Steering is tight, alignment is dead on, suspension is tight. Brakes work well with good linings all around. Tires have about 20% tread remaining on a matched set of good quality whitewall radials. New lower ball joints, recently aligned (with good specs report from Firestone.) Solid, quiet exhaust with no leaks. Check engine light is not lit (except at start up as it should.) No complaints - drive anywhere. A Harley Earl designed car introduced on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Buick, the Super Estate featured the first Buick V-8 engine 322 CID / 170HP and the first 12-volt electrical system. It was also the very last of the American "woody" station wagons. Together these features make this car one of the most desirable of its kind. The production numbers for the 1953 Buick Estate Wagons were only 1,830 for the Supers. The wagon’s styling is signature Harley Earl, from the enormous vertical-tooth grille to the sweeping bright body-side trim with the famous body-side portholes, were a hallmark of that period’s upscale Buick’s, these cars are just stunning. This particular car is a fantastic candidate for restoration with just the right amount of patina. Running and driving having just had a new brake master installed and rebuilt brake booster, tune up, carburetor rebuild and new muffler. This car still needs some minor dialing in to be 100% road worthy. It did just do a 30 mile drive from the shop that did the work in the past 2 weeks but still needs some things sorted out. Right side manifold has a small leak, in need of shocks or rebuilding. Lights are working but all should be gone over. The body and car is all here but has had some patch work on the floors and shown in the pictures. Again, with a little bit more TLC this car is ready for the road as is and will turn heads everywhere. A few trees had to be cut, and branches and brush cleared. (Perhaps 40- 45 cars were dragged around or loaded onto the roll off truck ..and then moved.. placed out side ..just to get these 12 out.. and then put back) The old guy who owned these cars had a love affair with Buick's and Cadillacs especially. BUT...He had an Immediate financial need and I came along...looking for..of all things " LAWN ART" Like some oldrusting Model T body to place a tree or plant inside.and I wasn't even looking for myself. Yes: He showed me around and .. Yes: He sold 12 Cars...to me On a few cars he loved or had deep seated emotional attachments too...he actually let out a groan as he agreed to sell.. As he grasped the money in his hands he often walked away shaking his head..in despair..but the money I am sure help sooth him to a degree. I brought cash when I dealt with the Old ManI thought cash would speak louder than a check book.I was right. Once he grabbed at the stack of CASH in my hand and pushed his nose into it and smelled the money..all crisp New $100 Bills.It was like he was gasping for air . CASH WAS LIKE OXYGEN I went around over 3 weeks and chose the cool cars..in my opinion He had set high prices on most of the cars I chose and even more on the super rare one..but when he saw the cash...Its my opinion.. but I think his brain short circuited ...he grabbed at the cash as I counted it out and laid on the cars I wanted. He knew I wasn't just there to look..I was there to buy and help him...get unstuck..The cash was like a pry bar..and I saw his life moving..men came in to work clear up his place..he ordered many roll away dumpsters to dump an old house that had fallen.... truck loads of gravel was bought in and he moved cars out of the rented warehouse onto his land. Over the course of a some weeks..He agreed to sell me his rarest of cars.. I might tell you about that One in particular that's on its way to Europe when you call me. The (1) rare car "THE BIG FINNED CAR" of 2 sold .. paid for the whole lot.I got Lucky. So now you know..you can buy these for almost what I paid..It wasn't cheap...but with paying the towing company for 2 1/2 days to get them out and tow them to my shop.Then move them around on a couple occasions is $$$$. I also hired a small crew to clean the cars.Emptying 40 years of Dust outPower washed, cleaned out. The hundreds of pounds of mud were bagged up and taken back to the field where they came from. Many, many tires were bought and paid to be mounted so the cars could "Roll Again". Stuck wheels with rusted brake pads had to be unbroken.. and the cars had to roll again.. The Shop is Full Now and Id like all the cars gone within the next 30 days..and Lord Willing, they will be.. I like to believe I helped the old guy out a bit too.So he could move on with his life.I don't know for sure..maybe. Anyway..
