This VW bus has been our daily driver and the perfect adventure vehicle for those times when we just wanted to hit the road, camp and explore Southern Arizona and Mexico. The functional and mechanical aspects of the vehicle have been sorted out, as illustrated by the extensive list of details bellow. The vehicle does not represent an immaculate restoration, but instead it has the appropriate level of “wear and tear” for a vintage VW bus that has been well used and loved for. Our family is growing and our needs are changing, and thus we are reluctantly selling our “kombi” to the next loving owner and onto a new adventure. Wheels and Brakes: New 195/75/14 BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires from Discount TiresTwo new passenger-side tie rods.New front brake shoes.New wheel cylinders on all of the wheels.New master cylinder new plastic reservoir.Two new brake light switches.New brake hoses.Brake system bled with new brake fluid. Interior: The Campmobile Westfalia interior is complete and fully functional in original un-restored condition. This includes:The Z-bed (rear seating that folds down into a bed) with storage underneath it containing the original jack and tire iron. The side storage cabinets next to the Z-bed, although the mirror on the inside of the tall door is missing. The rear-facing seat behind the drivers seat with storage underneath and behind it. The pop-up table. The icebox (a cooler that resembles a refrigerator) with the spice rack and pop-up cutting board. The sink with the water tank, the flip-over surface, and a new water pump. The pop-top is complete with new rubber hold-downs. The fabric is in great shape, although the zippers do not work and the mosquito netting does have some rips that have been patched with more netting. Two jalousy windows with new screens and new knobs. The cushions have been reupholstered with a new and very durable cloth material that is dark blue in color.The front seats have been covered in the same cloth material as the cushions, and could use new padding (especially the drivers seat) yet they are comfortable and functional.New curtains along the side windows, the jalousy windows, and rear window.New front cot that extends over the two front seats.New front rubber floor mat. Body and Exterior: The front nose has been replaced with a later model nose. This has been done professionally, and is very hard to tell.Rust-free, but with its share of nicks and dingsThe original pearl white paint has received a repaint in a two-tone white and baby blue color scheme that is beautiful and very fitting to the vehicle.New side scoops that greatly increase the cooling by forcing more air into the engine bay.Original sekurit glass in excellent shape with perfectly functioning windows.New windshield wipers.The plastic window cranks for the two front windows have been replaced with metal EMPI cranks.Original lenses in great shape.The original drivers side view mirror has a crack through it which does not affect its functionality.New headlight “eyebrows”.Comes with original front VW emblem.Functional spare tire in the original inside location.An access plate has been cut in the inside under the cushion (as found in later model VW vans) that greatly facilitates access to the engine bay.The original key locks the doors, although it is “sticky” and sometimes hard to unlock the doors.New interior sliding door handle.Tow hitch with a 2” ball and 4-prong wiring.Front receiver hitch allows one to add accessories in the front, such as a winch or cargo rack. This van was part of a hotel shuttle fleet in the Phoenix Arizona area, used to haul passengers from hotels to the airport. It basically ran 24-7 except when in for service and maintenance. The van looks very clean both inside and out, it runs nicely and has seen recent services. The van has not seen road salt. This van still runs strong and it has the smaller 4.6 motor on purpose for better city fuel economy. If you run a transport business this is a sound vehicle that looks good and fits a tight budget. We had 2 of them, the other with even higher mileage, and this one was prepared secondly. exterior The paint and body on this van are very presentable for the mileage. Arizona is simply not hard on their vehicles like a lot of the country. There's no rust, hail, or obvious body damage. It's not brand new, the front bumper has some bumps, and there's a crease on the right rear 1/4 panel, alont with a little normal road wear about the body. The doors all open and close ok, passenger rear door latches are a little used, but not too bad. When it came in, it had a healthy oil leak about the oil cooler but we took care of that, no more leaks. interior The interior is in fair condition. The drivers seat was worn when it came in, so we re-upholstered the base. The arm rest is out of the vehicle on that side, but I believe we have it and can replace it. The passenger compartment looks decent, little normal aging/wear, but nothing too bad, I don't think anybody would notice the wear as a customer. The cargo compartment does have lots of marks as expected, being that it frequently hauled baggage. This van has cold front and rear air, power options, and keyless. Everything works. It's comfy inside and doesn't smell like smoke. mechanical This van runs out very well and came in that way for the most part. We did change the spark plugs, they were due, runs nice and smooth now, no miss-fire. We fixed the leaky gasket as mentioned. It has a new motor mount, we fixed the mode-doors on the a/c heater setup, changed the oil, filter, and a few other things. The fleet got good use out of it, but the van still runs out and shifts fine and should be fine for a while yet. We will provide a spare tire and jack/setup for you. It should be fine to drive home if you'd like to fly in. We do not give out of state guarantees on gas motor vans with this mileage. comments This is a neat van and a good workhorse. This van was part of a hotel shuttle fleet in the Phoenix Arizona area, used to haul passengers from hotels to the airport. It basically ran 24-7 except when in for service and maintenance. The van looks very clean both inside and out, it runs very well, has not seen road salt, and we just replaced the transmission with one that has far less mileage. This van still runs very strong and it has the smaller 4.6 motor on purpose for better city fuel economy. If you run a transport business this is a sound vehicle that looks good and fits a short budget. We have 2 in stock, this one has a littler higher mileage than the other, but the condition is identical and transmission is a bonus. exterior The paint and body on this van are very presentable for the mileage. Arizona is simply not hard on their vehicles like a lot of the country. There's no rust, hail, or body damage at all. It's not brand new, but it does look quite straight. The wheel covers are new, tires all have good tread and there's no cracks in the glass. The front end has a little pitting and there's a small bump on the right front fender edge, and otherwise a few small marks, nicks, etc, but generally it looks more like a well kept sub-100k van. The doors all open and close fine, bumpers are straight, and undercarriage isn't puking any fluids. interior The interior is in fair condition. The drivers seat was worn when it came in, so we re-upholstered the base. The arm rest is out of the vehicle on that side, but I believe we have it and can replace it. The passenger compartment looks decent, little normal aging/wear, but nothing too bad, I don't think anybody would notice the wear as a customer. The cargo compartment does have lots of marks as expected, being that it frequently hauled baggage. This van has cold front and rear air, power options, and keyless. Everything works. We did replace that missing A/C knob, we keep those in stock, pretty common for them to come off. It's comfy inside and doesn't smell like smoke. mechanical This van runs out very well and came in that way, but the transmission had grenaded before we bought it. We've seen the V8 triton motors do 500k before breaking, but you can expect Ford transmissions to go out 200-300k miles even with routine fluid changes, it's just a wearable item. The one we replaced it with has about 85-90k miles and was a local Colorado vehicle. The van fires right up, drives straight, shifts smooth, and feels pretty tight overall. It has decent power, no warning lights on the dash, and the motor is quiet. The brake pad life is over 50% remaining, belt and hoses fine and it isn't leaking anything noticeable. It has a little normal crusty seepage, we did change the oil. There's no uneven tire wear and shocks feel fine. The right side lower ball joint has some play, but you wouldn't know by driving it. We can do a set of ball joints and have it aligned if you like, call for pricing. The low tire light is on, but it has good pressure all the way around, we don't fuss with them. Lastly, the shifter lever is a little floppy just from the mileage on the column, it's safe, and will last a long time, it just feels a little loose when you drop it into gear, really very common on these and not a mechanical issue, just a condition. comments This is a neat van and a good workhorse.
