Up for auction is a 1973 VW camper van which is part of an estate sale. The owner had plans to slowly restore this van and travel the country but never finished, makes a great project for someone else because its complete and engine is strong. It's been sitting 2 years year in storage and I have not attempted to start it either but it was rebuilt and runs strong. Feel free to come by and spend the day testing it if you like.The family said of the previous owner stated the following: "Facts: Less than 10,000 miles on new engine and radial tires, New CV axles on both sides, new brakes and calipers( but are a bit sticky from sitting), New dual carb conversion kit, and new extra cables for throttle, clutch, and heater." The van has been in storage for about 2 years with a battery tender hooked to it and it did start right up after a few pumps of the gas pedal. The interior is quite nice for a 1973. Amazingly there are no rips or tears in the canvas or screens. The cabinets are in good shape. It does need new trim around the edges of the interior which you can get in a roll and it just pushes in the groove. It has a table, ice box, and a sink. The rear seat folds down to a decent size bed and a small bed up top unfolds for a smaller person. There is a privacy curtain that snaps in place around the front windows and a rear screen panel that snaps in place in the rear so you can sleep with the rear hatch open on nice nights. And there is an awning which I did not take out to set up. All this stuff is in very good shape. You can see in the pictures the areas that the body would need repaired. The underside of the body(frame work) is solid with some rust on the front and rockers as you can see in the pictures. With some body work and a paint job this would be a very nice camper van. The owner spent nearly $4,000.oo having the engine done, axles, dual carb kit, and other things so it just needs someone to take it to the next step to be a nice van and a good investment. We are selling our beautiful Eurovan Camper. We have only owned this camper for one year. We bought it from a couple in Va. that owned it ten plus years and they bought it from the original owner. We and the previous owner kept this camper in the garage and the window and door seals and the paint that has never been touched up is like new. Body and frame rust free. I put two new Continental Vango original equiptment correct size tires on front since we bought it. Rear tires are very good. This camper has original suspension system so it will fit in your garage. We just changed oil (synthetic) and filters. No leaks from engine or trans. You will not believe how well this camper drives and rides, It has been well cared for. Everything on this vehicle works as it should. No pets and no smoking by us or the previous owner. The previous owner described this camper as the best one east of Mississippi River or possibly the world. That may be true. No stains or tears on carpet or upholstery or bed cushions or pop top canvas. The upper bunk cushions look like they have not been used.We gave $25,000. for it last year after looking at a lot of campers. I think we bought the best one on the market for the price. A luggage rack attached and a bicycle rack also included. Also factory made bug screens for drivers window and sliding door opening. We bought one of these campers new in 1995 when they first came out. We had owned the old vanagon campers before that so we have enjoyed many camping sightseeing adventures all over North America. Up for auction is one very original 69 ASI/Riviera Camper. This bus has the head room pop top, standard Z bed, jump seat and standard issue of cabinets and closets. Bus has a fresh 1600 dual port engine, new 34PICT3 carburetor (still adjusting on it for best idle, been a challenge but engine runs really well and has plenty of power), brand new German bus exhaust, all new Bosch tune up equipment, freshly adjusted valves and fresh oil. The clutch and transmission operate as intended with NO popping out of any gear. The fuel tank was removed, flushed and sealed and the fuel guage sending unit repaired and the bus now has a working fuel guage. The brakes work very well with a firm pedal and decent stopping power for drum brakes. On the inside the bus sports its ORIGINAL seating surfaces throughout and they are in good shape with a few tears in the rear Z bed cushions. The interior smell is priceless and can only be obtained by the passing of the years having its effect on the VW materials. As for rust issues, this bus comes from the Eastern part of the State of Washington, Walla Walla, and as such rust is almost a non issue at all. The battery tray does have corrosion but not where the tray meets the body and tray supports the battery fine. The rockers appear good and so does the front floors and cargo floor is solid as well. There is a tiny, emphasis on tiny, bit of rust at the front of the front wheel wells and they have been arrested with POR15 to prevent further progression. There was rust under the windshield, very common. Windshield has been replaced and the corroded metal replaced with stainless steel and all treated with POR15 as well, Should be good for another 45 years. Previous owner had the bus painted and while the bus looks good it appears to be an amateur job with paint and body work but it does the job. The suspension on the bus is decent shape and the bus does not steer like a boat. Tires on the bus are ok but are passenger car tires and not the 8 ply tires it should have. I have 4 brand new shock absorbers for the bus, many many rubber seals, New CV joint kits and several miscellaneous parts I will include with the sale. Unlike most all camper buses available, this one sports the RV tag issued by the State of Washington and not California. California was the primary market intended for the Westy's and the Riviera's back in the day. This one is a true Pacific Northwest bus and it shows. What I do know the bus needs: Repair needs to be made to the accelerator pedal under the bus. Currently I have it working and it is reliable but it should be done in the future. CV joints need new boots and grease and new boots/grease are included with the bus. A bit more tuning on the carburetor would improve its idle quality (its not that bad now). When the windshield was repaired the area of repair was painted white and paint does not match exactly but my plan was to return the bus to its original beige color. The slider camping windows need restoration but are intact and open and close fine. Truly, this bus does not need much. I would be comfortable driving the bus anywhere. I drove the bus on 630 mile round trip down the Oregon Coast and encountered no problems unless you consider tons of attention a problem! We replaced the pistons, cylinders, cylinder heads as well as re-sealed the engine in addition to replacing wheel cylinders and brand new tires. All the work performed on this vehicle has been done and inspected by a certified Volkswagen technician and air cooled VW enthusiast. This vehicle is mechanically sound and would make a great driver.
