As “preservation class” vintage cars hadn’t yet been given the credence that they’ve come to enjoy (both in terms of recognition and valuation) the Mitchell’s made the choice to refinish the car in its factory correct black paint at some point during their tenure, which is the finish the car still wears today. In February of 1984, the car was sold with 115k miles on the odometer to its third and most recent owner, Dr. William Lell, also of Birmingham. Like the Mitchells, Dr. Lell always kept the car properly serviced and garaged, using it as a cherished weekend driver – in 31 years of ownership he accrued a mere 7k additional miles. Upon acquiring the car he had the seats reupholstered in correct red leather and a new correct canvas soft top installed, both at Bud’s Benz in Douglasville, GA. Throughout his ownership, the car has consistent maintenance, evidenced by a thick stack of service receipts from local marque experts. It should come as no surprise then that the car is in fantastic shape mechanically. The original, numbers matching engine starts effortlessly, idles smoothly and consistently and pulls strongly through each of the original transmission’s gears. The car drives and brakes straight and true, the suspension is tight and the car is a joy to drive, whether tooling through town, winding through the canyons or bombing down the highway. As the pictures show, the finish applied in 1984 has held up quite well and the car remains absolutely gorgeous. The seats themselves appear almost new, the carpets are in good shape and the car retains its immaculate, uncracked original steering wheel and fully functioning Becker radio. The glass and chrome are in excellent original condition and while the car’s soft top shows some limited wear the rear window is clear and it remains entirely serviceable. Perhaps most notably, as the recipient of proper care and storage, the frame and undercarriage are entirely solid and original, showing no evidence of harmful rust or repairs. A condition mirrored in the trunk and engine compartment, it tells the story of a remarkably untouched, extremely original example that has always lived a charmed life. As meticulous an owner as you’ll find, Dr. Lell comprehensively documented his 31 year ownership of the car including the aforementioned thick stack of service receipts, all of the sales documents from his acquisition of the car, an appraisal from just prior (describing the car as being in “exceptionally good condition”) and a range of technical data for the car. The car is also remarkably complete in terms of original tools, retaining its rare (and expensive to replace) original tool kit, spare tire and changing tools. This is a 1969 Factory built 442. The car underwent a full frame off restoration from 2005-2006. The car was stripped to metal and painted in DuPont original color Crimson Red. There were several coats of clear coat applied and it looks great today as you see in the pictures. The interior original and shows the care the car has had over the years. The top is new including rear glass and is in the original factory color of black - it works as it should. During the restoration the Hydramatic Transmission was rebuilt and shifts are smooth and hard to detect. The block on the motor was replaced. There are 14880 miles since the restoration. The car has been garage kept. $7500 of receipts from 2011-2015 will accompany the car and include brakes, tires at 85-90%, complete brakes, ac compressor and belts - blows cold at 95 degrees, new steering wheel (original comes with the car). NOTE: The stereo is an upgrade Kenwood and sounds great - OEM GM Radios can be found on eBay for $60-$90. All lights and signals work except for the light in the center console. The rear wing was not original factory equipment but was dealer installed - there is a hairline crack that does not show up in pictures. New front windshield and all glass is clear. New left and right mirrors as well as door handles. Power Steering and Brakes. Compression is good on all cylinders and the car has no smoke or leaks - acceleration is instant and you will smoke tires if you are heavy on the gas. At 70 MPH it tracks straight - more importantly it stops straight as an arrow - the brakes are dialed in. The car is sorted out, it starts without issue the first time, sounds great, drives great. Every feature, button and lever works excellent. The air suspension raises and lowers like it should and all the 4wd features function flawlessly. This is a fun SUV to own and drive. Rides like a dream. Equipment includes a Harmon Kardon Logic 7 550 watt audio system with an in-dash six-disc CD player and 14 speakers, plus a DVD-based navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and front and rear park distance control. Adaptive cruise control is an included option, as is an easy-to-operate rear DVD entertainment with two 6.5-inch LCD screens mounted in the backside of the front-seat headrests. Heated front and rear sport seats with silver inserts behind the perforated leather come standard on the supercharged Sport. Open the tailgate and the cargo bay appears to go on forever. With a maximum of 71 cubic feet of cargo capacity, the Sport beats the X5's 69 cubes and handily trumps the Cayenne's 63 cubic feet as well. Land Rover designed the tailgate glass to lift separately for quick access without opening the full door.The DVD based Navigation is up to date and the phone works well too. Dial out works easy and the microphone works well according to others when I call. Very well taken care of. Email me if you want to make an offer or have any questions. This thing is super quiet when driving and you wouldn't even know it was running if not for seeing the RPM's gauge. I love the silence and quiet aspects of this SUV and am always amazed, as are others who ride in it, at the full quality sound the stock Harman Kardon Logic 7 Audio System performs. In July of 2015 (last month) I had a dealership performed full service maintenance by replacing all Engine, Transmission, Chassis and Differential Lubricants, Oils and Inspection of All these Systems and other Points of the SUV for a Status on Maintenance suggestions. I had new parts installed at the dealership service center at Tom Williams in Birmingham. Over $4,000 worth of work and upgrades which means you are good to go in this SUV for at least another 100k miles before you may need to take it to Land Rover again. Sun roof not working, As long as you keep the oil changed regularly then you won't have to visit the Land Rover dealership service center (which is highly expensive.) The Parts were the Following: Engine Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter, 2 x Front Wheel Hubs, New Rear Passenger Side Air Suspension Shock Absorber, 4 New Pirelli Tires, Oil Filter, are just a few of the parts plus labor and maintenance reports. Basically everything they called and told me needed replacement or showed past wear and would ensure the vehicle was in the best condition I told them to have done for me. I have been using the SUV as a daily driver since picking it up and it performs extremely well and really love the way it drives. I easily zip around town with plenty of power to put my vehicle where I need to go. The SUV gets a lot of compliments at places I go to as well, I am very surprised at the large amount of people see me driving it tell me how its there dream car and want to look at the inside. I have had the exterior poly base materials treated with a restorative chemical treatment that has brung the black color of the exterior parts out and it shines like new now. The interior of the SUV is the best part of the vehicle. The carpet and Leather Seats appear to have rarely been used. I believe before me a light weighted lady must have used the SUV because the leather is in such great condition. Everyday I am falling more in love with this Range Rover so please I need you to buy it from me before I keep it for myself. I hold a Dealers License issued by the State of Alabama and am a Designated Agent for the State of Alabama. A designated agent can perform title searches, does title work, registration, etc, like at your local probate office. Those massaged panels feature better-than-factory alignment and, when opened and closed, sound solid and function exceptionally well. And that functional body's combination of excellent reflections and Kansas-flat surfaces suggest many labor-intensive hours were spent exacting top-notch finish work. While its basic shape is certainly appealing, first rate detailing is what makes this Chevy really pop. At the front of the truck, a familiar chrome grille rides between a fresh chrome bumper, clean halogen headlights and a shaved hood. Behind that hood, a split windshield leads a 3-window greenhouse that's framed in capped wipers, small, color-keyed mirrors and a flush Center High Mount Stop Lamp. Beneath those mirrors, painted running boards combine with shaved doors to create a simple, attractive profile. At the center of that profile, a custom bed cover lifts to reveal a custom mural and spectacular Oak planks. And at the back of that cover, a smooth tailgate reflects a custom roll pan, polished exhaust tips and flush-fit tail lamps. ENGINE Take a look under the truck's clean hood and you'll find 5.7 liters of LS1 V8 that makes over 300 horsepower! Straight from the factory, the proven mill combines a sturdy aluminum block with lightweight aluminum heads, coil-near-plug ignition and aluminum flat top pistons to create razor-sharp throttle response and a torque band that's as wide as Texas. At the front of the engine, polished serpentine components spin a polished alternator and modern AC compressor at the sides of a polished Street & Performance air cleaner. Once air enters that cleaner, it flows through a polished throttle body to a polished intake, which is bolted down over completely stock internals. High-octane fossils are provided by GM electronic fuel injection. Sparks are sequenced through fresh Taylor plug wires. Spent gases roar through a slick pair of Hooker Super Competition headers. And cooling comes courtesy of a beefy Walker radiator that's fitted with a large SPAL pusher fan. Aesthetically, both the tan mill and its assortment of bright accessories seem right at home inside their smooth, body-matched frame. And details like polished caps, polished rocker covers, polished fluid reservoirs and color-keyed rail covers ensure this Chevy has the looks to match its performance. DRIVETRAIN/TRANSMISSION Judging by appearance, this classic spent most of its blue-collar life living clean and working hard. So, when the time came for rebirth, the truck was a prime candidate for thorough modernization. Nowhere is that theme more evident than under the skin. The dressed LS1 sends power to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic, which spins a color-keyed axle that's fitted with moderate, highway-friendly gears. That smooth drivetrain pushes a Fatman Fabrications frame on a custom 4-link suspension, which sports proven QA1 coil-overs. Tracking is provided by an upgraded front clip, which is fitted with tubular control arms, power rack-and-pinion steering and two more coil-over-shocks. Quick stops are a cinch thanks to power-assisted, 4-wheel disc brakes. At the center of the floor, coated exhaust pipes make good use of coated DynoMax mufflers. And at the corners of the chassis, polished Billet Specialties wheels twist 225/60R17 front, and 235/60R18 rear, Goodyear Assurance radials around custom center caps. INTERIOR When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a comfortable cockpit that, thanks to Larry Sneed Hot Rod Interior of Louisville, Kentucky, features stylish Alligator trim. Top dead center, a wrapped dash hangs a locking glovebox and Classic Instruments All American gauges above knobs for Vintage Air climate control. We drove Cayenne S models first without and then with the system at Barber Motorsports Park, home of the Porsche Sport Driving School in Alabama, and the difference in cornering performance was dramatic. The Cayenne S Hybrid, after some three and a half years in development, uses a supercharged version of the VW/Audi 3.0-liter V6 engine, generating 333 horsepower, with a 47-horspower electric motor added in for a total of 380 horsepower and a total of 428 foot-pounds of torque at just 1000 rpm. close to the output of the 4.8-liter V8 engine in the regular S model. Porsche says the Cayenne Hybrid will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, and reach 150 mph. It's the cleanest, greenest model in Porsche history at 193 gram of CO per kilometer on the European testing cycle. The hybrid system uses a 288-volt nickel metal-hydride (NiMh) Sanyo battery fitted beneath the luggage compartment and regenerative braking, the process of storing electricity regained from applying the brakes and driving under normal conditions. Porsche's very first hybrid system has an E-mode switch, which can operate the vehicle entirely on electricity in slow-moving commuting situations up to 37 mph (we actually saw 41 mph going downhill). In the sailing mode, which can operate up to 97 mph, both the engine and electric motor shut off completely, and the vehicle also shuts down every time it comes to a stop, with regenerative braking to recharge the battery. The battery charging system, developed with battery partner Sanyo, keeps the charge between 45 and 75 percent. The Cayenne S Hybrid is a full parallel hybrid, meaning that it can operate on electricity, gasoline, or both, and uses the standard 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The electric motor and the decoupler or clutch mechanism are placed ahead of the transmission. The system incorporates hill descent control as well as a hill-holder. Porsche estimates that the Cayenne S hybrid will achieve 21 miles per gallon in the city (a 30 percent improvement compared to the V8-powered S version) and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. All Cayenne models except the Turbo come with steel suspension as standard equipment, but for the first time it can be combined with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as an option. Cayenne is 75.9 inches wide, about the same as the X5 (76.1 inches) or a half-inch wider than M-Class (75.2 inches). Cayenne's wheelbase measures 114 inches. In size, Cayenne most closely matches Volkswagen's Touareg, which is no surprise given the two vehicles were developed jointly by Porsche and VW. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression During our time in and around Birmingham, Alabama, and at Barber Motorsports Park, we were able to drive the Hybrid, Turbo and S versions of the Cayenne, and we came away impressed. The Cayenne in any form is a wonderful, quiet, plush, and luxurious highway cruiser, but the V8 S version and the Turbo will find their way around a racetrack with amazing alacrity, very little body lean in hard corners, and no bad behavior. The Turbo version is rated by Porsche to run the 0-60 mph sprint in a mere 4.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 172 mph, about 50 mph higher than a typical SUV. There are very few twin-turbocharged, direct-injection V8 engines in the SUV world, and this one generates 500 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque, which gives the Cayenne absolutely breathtaking performance, but also allows towing of over 7700 pounds. The highway cruising behavior of any of the Cayenne models is exemplary. The air spring suspension and the big tires act together as giant shock absorbers for whatever dips, ruts, hole and bumps are in the road. The brakes on the Cayenne are enormous, with six-pistons calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear, with 15.3-inch front discs and 14-inch rear discs, enough braking power to stop a freight train on a dime. The hybrid version is meant to be clean and green without being boring or underpowered, and Porsche has done a wonderful job mating a real engine, a real transmission (instead of a CVT), and a clever hybrid package of battery, motor, charging system and electronic controls. The Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) is a further development of the existing Bi-Xenon light system that offers not only dynamic and static cornering lights, but also continuous light leveling and speed-sensitive headlight control with separate modes for roads and interstates. The system is standard on the Cayenne Turbo and an option on the other models. The new Lane Change Assistant (LCA) monitors traffic in the adjacent lanes up to 230 feet behind the vehicle, including the driver's blind spots. As soon as another vehicle enters the blind spots or approaches rapidly from behind within a range of 180 feet, an LED warning light illuminates on the inside of the corresponding exterior mirror. If the driver uses the turn signal, the flashing light appears to alert the driver of the approaching vehicle. Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar to monitor and maintain the preset distance between the Cayenne and vehicles in front of it by restricting the throttle or applying the brakes. If the vehicle in front decelerates, ACC will continue to reduce speed, all the way down to a complete stop. ACC operates at speeds from 20 to 100 mph. The required braking power is calculated by the system and by Porsche Stability Management (PSM) building up brake pressure. If the distance between the Cayenne and the vehicle ahead becomes too small, the system alerts the brake standby function to shorten the stopping distance required. It also pre-fills the brake system for quicker response and gives the driver both a visual and an acoustic warning and an additional brake pulse. The center console grab handles that were a trademark of the original Cayenne are still there, with a new design. Rear-seat room is more generous, thanks to the 1.6-inch extended wheelbase for 2011. The second seat now slides fore-and-aft by 6.3 inches, and the backrest can be adjusted to three different angles, or up to 6 degrees. Porsche's traditional five round-instrument gauge cluster now includes a high-resolution circular 4.8-inch TFT screen to the right of the tach. It can be used to change radio stations, vehicle settings, access the navigation system or view the map. The Cayenne S Hybrid instrument cluster differs as the instruments provide the driver with all information he or she needs to monitor car's innovative hybrid system and maximize its efficiencies. We drove Cayenne S models first without and then with the system at Barber Motorsports Park, home of the Porsche Sport Driving School in Alabama, and the difference in cornering performance was dramatic. The Cayenne S Hybrid, after some three and a half years in development, uses a supercharged version of the VW/Audi 3.0-liter V6 engine, generating 333 horsepower, with a 47-horspower electric motor added in for a total of 380 horsepower and a total of 428 foot-pounds of torque at just 1000 rpm. close to the output of the 4.8-liter V8 engine in the regular S model. Porsche says the Cayenne Hybrid will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, and reach 150 mph. The hybrid system uses a 288-volt nickel metal-hydride (NiMh) Sanyo battery fitted beneath the luggage compartment and regenerative braking, the process of storing electricity regained from applying the brakes and driving under normal conditions. Porsche's very first hybrid system has an E-mode switch, which can operate the vehicle entirely on electricity in slow-moving commuting situations up to 37 mph (we actually saw 41 mph going downhill). In the sailing mode, which can operate up to 97 mph, both the engine and electric motor shut off completely, and the vehicle also shuts down every time it comes to a stop, with regenerative braking to recharge the battery. The battery charging system, developed with battery partner Sanyo, keeps the charge between 45 and 75 percent. The Cayenne S Hybrid is a full parallel hybrid, meaning that it can operate on electricity, gasoline, or both, and uses the standard 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The electric motor and the decoupler or clutch mechanism are placed ahead of the transmission. The system incorporates hill descent control as well as a hill-holder. Porsche estimates that the Cayenne S hybrid will achieve 21 miles per gallon in the city (a 30 percent improvement compared to the V8-powered S version) and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. All Cayenne models except the Turbo come with steel suspension as standard equipment, but for the first time it can be combined with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as an option. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression During our time in and around Birmingham, Alabama, and at Barber Motorsports Park, we were able to drive the Hybrid, Turbo and S versions of the Cayenne, and we came away impressed. The Cayenne in any form is a wonderful, quiet, plush, and luxurious highway cruiser, but the V8 S version and the Turbo will find their way around a racetrack with amazing alacrity, very little body lean in hard corners, and no bad behavior. The Turbo version is rated by Porsche to run the 0-60 mph sprint in a mere 4.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 172 mph, about 50 mph higher than a typical SUV. There are very few twin-turbocharged, direct-injection V8 engines in the SUV world, and this one generates 500 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque, which gives the Cayenne absolutely breathtaking performance, but also allows towing of over 7700 pounds. The highway cruising behavior of any of the Cayenne models is exemplary. The air spring suspension and the big tires act together as giant shock absorbers for whatever dips, ruts, hole and bumps are in the road. The brakes on the Cayenne are enormous, with six-pistons calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear, with 15.3-inch front discs and 14-inch rear discs, enough braking power to stop a freight train on a dime. The hybrid version is meant to be clean and green without being boring or underpowered, and Porsche has done a wonderful job mating a real engine, a real transmission (instead of a CVT), and a clever hybrid package of battery, motor, charging system and electronic controls. The Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) is a further development of the existing Bi-Xenon light system that offers not only dynamic and static cornering lights, but also continuous light leveling and speed-sensitive headlight control with separate modes for roads and interstates. The system is standard on the Cayenne Turbo and an option on the other models. The new Lane Change Assistant (LCA) monitors traffic in the adjacent lanes up to 230 feet behind the vehicle, including the driver's blind spots. As soon as another vehicle enters the blind spots or approaches rapidly from behind within a range of 180 feet, an LED warning light illuminates on the inside of the corresponding exterior mirror. If the driver uses the turn signal, the flashing light appears to alert the driver of the approaching vehicle. Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar to monitor and maintain the preset distance between the Cayenne and vehicles in front of it by restricting the throttle or applying the brakes. If the vehicle in front decelerates, ACC will continue to reduce speed, all the way down to a complete stop. ACC operates at speeds from 20 to 100 mph. The required braking power is calculated by the system and by Porsche Stability Management (PSM) building up brake pressure. If the distance between the Cayenne and the vehicle ahead becomes too small, the system alerts the brake standby function to shorten the stopping distance required. It also pre-fills the brake system for quicker response and gives the driver both a visual and an acoustic warning and an additional brake pulse. The center console grab handles that were a trademark of the original Cayenne are still there, with a new design. Rear-seat room is more generous, thanks to the 1.6-inch extended wheelbase for 2011. The second seat now slides fore-and-aft by 6.3 inches, and the backrest can be adjusted to three different angles, or up to 6 degrees. Porsche's traditional five round-instrument gauge cluster now includes a high-resolution circular 4.8-inch TFT screen to the right of the tach. It can be used to change radio stations, vehicle settings, access the navigation system or view the map. The Cayenne S Hybrid instrument cluster differs as the instruments provide the driver with all information he or she needs to monitor car's innovative hybrid system and maximize its efficiencies.
