The World's Rarest of all Rolls Royces. One off Silver Wraith Roadster with handsome French Styling SUBJECT OF ARTISTS WORLDWIDE from photograpers to oil painters, model makers and poster cars for two major Concours d'Elegances.. see this car in person at the Pebble Beach Concour's d'Elegance below oil painting by Gail Jeffer (dec'd) depicting the Rhodes family and friends at Thorpe Underwood Hall the stately 'Manor" of the Rhodes family with Rolls Royce roadster in foreground Well over 6000 hours of a nut and bolt restoration to Pebble Beach standards. We started with a very solid 'driver' but had to make this rare and elegant car perfect. Hundreds of photos. It just completed a 500 mile break in ............................... Numerous National Concours d'Elegance Awards This wonderful vehicle is being offered solely to generate funds for the owner's family charity a 501 C 3. and will not be available until after the show season. (please do not request donations and be advised that we have been informed that in the event of a completed sale the purchaser is not entitled to any tax deduction) The following is only part of an article featuring this car in Car Collector Magazine plus a Rolls Royce book Featuring this car on the cover and great details in the chapter about it. This one-off example was designed and bodied by H. J. Mulliner for Mrs. Sybil Rhodes, an American married to British industrialist Frank E. Rhodes. In the prewar years, and for many years after, Rhodes made his fortune in concrete, paving the motorways crisscrossing Great Britain. It is believed that Sybil owned a French sports car when she lived in the United States; however, it was never shipped to the Rhodes estate in England. One person suggested that Frank Rhodes was not happy with the French after the war and would not permit anything French on his property (thus we would assume his wine cellar was stocked with bottles from the White Cliffs of Dover). With Sybil’s affection for French styling one can see the influence of esteemed Paris salons such as Franay and Saoutchik in the H. J. Mulliner design, particularly the rear deck (boot) with its beautiful chrome fin. The entire body is aluminum under which is the early, whisper-silent, Rolls-Royce straight six coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. A close-coupled design, the rear is taken up by a wonderfully British traveling cocktail bar. The Long Road to Restoration Owned today by a renowned Pennsylvania collector , the car has been restored to its original H. J. Mulliner design and color scheme. The owner, who is known for his meticulous restorations had spent years and over 5000 hours producing a most magnificent car to it glory, admitted that he had not intended this car to be quite such a project. “I got it from Florida and started working on it, cleaning it up; I figured I would just turn it into a nice driver,” he recalls. But as is often the case with a restoration, one thing led to another. There was more to this car than originally met the eye. “Along the way, I acquired original plans and other documents that made me more and more interested in this new project. A lot of times with coach built cars changes are made that never get noted in the original plans. This car was originally supposed to have a dickey seat (rumble seat) behind the passenger compartment. At some point this was changed and a full length trunk was put in its place. Also, they had designed the spare tire to be inserted through the license plate door, but that would never have worked based on the size of the spare, so that design was changed as well. But the most significant factors about the car were masked under years of old paint and restoration work.” As the restoration team began prepping the car they discovered original details that may have been covered over for as long as 30 years. While stripping the paint (many layers including the visible coats of blue, yellow and then the original black) they found holes running down the center of the trunk, as well as along the trailing edges of the rear fenders. “These were details that had been removed and the holes filled,” says the owner. “At about the same time we discovered a few rusty pieces of metal in a box in the trunk. We didn’t even know that there was a built in box in the trunk, but found it recessed far forward of the rear axle and covered over. It was then that we started to realize maybe we had something even more special than we already knew.” Those rusty pieces of metal turned out to be parts of an original deck lid fin. There were also a couple of threaded bolts that matched the uncovered holes. By placing advertisements on the Internet, and in British newspapers both in and around the area of the old Rhodes Estate, letters started coming in. “During our research we found out that there were more than the one set of plans at Hunt House (storage of Rolls-Royce records). The second plan showed the elimination of the Dickey seat and a different arrangement of the refreshment (liquor and wine) cabinet. Later there was a note that was in conflict with the original plans. The note called for the placement of the spare tire forward in the boot behind the passenger seat. The prior plan shows its placement to the aft of the trunk, in a well. The measurement for the opening to house the spare was actually several inches shorter than the spare tire!” The owner managed to contact the son of the Rhodes family chauffeur who had lived at Thorpe Underwood Hall, the Rhodes’ palatial country estate. Further letters and calls noted that sometime in the late 1950s or early 1960s Mrs. Rhodes had an accident with WGC48 that damaged the left front fender, left rear fender and rear of the boot. The car was disposed of shortly thereafter. It is believe that the damaged Silver Wraith was sold to Myers- Brunell, which handled Rolls-Royces and had an extensive fabricating shop. The car was repaired; however, the side trim and center boot molding were not replaced. The holes were filled in and the sections sprayed in black. It was shipped to the United States where it found a new owner. Since then this French influenced Silver Wraith has remained in the U.S., the country where its original owner was born. The LR4 is Land Rover's fourth generation of versatile mid-size SUV, replacing the previous generation LR3 model. It combines responsive on-road performance with go-anywhere off-road capability in a single rugged vehicle that still retains typical Land Rover levels of comfort and luxury. The five-passenger LR4 is powered by a 375-hp 5.0-liter V8 engine with direct fuel injection, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift manual shift control. Full-time four-wheel drive with Land Rover's acclaimed "Terrain Response" system, an electronic air suspension and hill descent control help the LR4 tackle any off-road situation. Standard features include a glass alpine roof, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather seat upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and Bluetooth wireless connectivity/audio streaming; an optional third row boosts seating capacity to seven. Safety equipment includes four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic stability control with traction control and roll mitigation, rear park assist and a tire pressure monitor, as well as front, front side-impact and overhead curtain airbags for all rows. An available Vision Assist Package offers adaptive front lighting and automatic high beam assist, as well as a surround camera system. The Land Rover LR4 carries over with minor changes for 2012. The standard audio system has been enhanced, adding a 7-inch color touch screen, 380-watt amplifier and Bluetooth audio streaming, while the optional hard-drive based navigation system now features internal memory storage and traffic alert. Source: Model Reviews Introduction The Land Rover LR4 offers amazing off-road capability yet on the road it is quiet and comfortable. Inside is a leather-appointed cabin that coddles passengers in luxury. LR4 is still fresh from a complete redesign for 2010. Since then, Land Rover has focused on upgrading its high-tech functions. For 2012, the electrical architecture was redesigned to employ the latest infotainment functions and other technology. The 2012 Land Rover LR4 comes standard with a harman/kardon audio system that has been upgraded to 380 watts and 14 speakers. The top optional system for the 2012 LR4 now blasts 825 watts through 17 speakers. Steering wheel stalks have been revised for 2012 for easier use and higher quality appearance. The 2012 Land Rover LR4 HSE comes standard with a hard-drive navigation system with updated graphics for more user-friendly operation. Also redesigned for 2012 is the driver information screen within the instrument cluster, which can displays audio information, phone book entries and navigational direction symbols (augmenting the main navigation screen). The LR4 seats five but can seat seven when equipped with an available third row. The LR4 is a midsize luxury sport utility, a class that includes the Lexus RX 350, Mercedes-Benz GLK, Audi Q5, Acura MDX, and BMW X5. The Land Rover LR4 and Range Rover Sport share platforms, powertrains, drive systems and sophisticated suspensions. The LR4 comes standard with slightly less luxury equipment than does the Sport, though most of those features are available as options. The LR4's wheelbase is more than five inches longer than that of the Range Rover Sport yet the LR4 is only two inches longer overall. The LR4 has short front and rear overhangs to avoid damage in rugged terrain. The LR4's looks are distinctively Land Rover. It's a happy, familiar shape that manages to pull off both boxy and, thanks to rounded edges at every opportunity, svelte if not sleek. The cabin is a complete success in terms of comfort, luxury and utility. Everything is lush to the eye and hand, and the quality of the interior materials is a high as it gets, beautifully fit and finished. Underway, the Land Rover LR4 is very comfortable and quiet. The LR4's capability off road is nothing short of phenomenal. Its suspension articulation coupled with the latest in traction control technology allow the LR4 to creep over extremely rugged terrain, the worst off-road trails, the most primitive of roads, and in all kinds of weather. The Land Rover LR4 comes with a 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 with direct injection and variable camshaft timing, making 375 horsepower and 375 foot-pounds of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission shifts sharply, and has Normal, Sport and Manual modes. The LR4 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds, a sprightly pace given the LR4's weight of about 5850 pounds. All LR4 models come with full-time all-wheel drive with a selectable low range, although it's an understatement to describe the Land Rover's state-of-the-art traction-control system so simply. For off-highway travel, the electronic two-speed transfer case can be shifted on the fly. But the magic is in the Terrain Response System, with its five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield, select the correct setting for the terrain, and the LR4 will coordinate all of its off-road technology accordingly, including setting the suspension height. The system also includes Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration control, which helps maintain downhill speeds on rough or slippery terrain when Hill Descent Control isn't set. If you want to drive to Tierra del Fuego, an LR4 would be a great choice. The LR4 meets the government's ULEV2 emissions requirements, meaning it's greener than required by law. It's no economy vehicle, however, with an EPA rating of 12/17 mpg City/Highway. Source: New Car Test Drive Walkaround The Land Rover LR4 presents a shape well-known throughout the world where it is known as the Discovery 4. It's a shape that manages to pull off boxy and, thanks to rounded edges at every opportunity, svelte. Here it's viewed as posh and upscale. In many parts of the world it's viewed as capable. The LR4 grille features two horizontal bars with perforations that suggest eggcrate but don't really say Land Rover, despite the badge that literally says so. The big headlamps at each end of the grille might do more to establish the identity, as they reflect the all-business nature of the Land Rover: They're out there and ready to work, with twin round beams inside, LED parking lights at their edges, above round projector-beam foglamps on the fascia below the grille. The sheetmetal is softened by rounding from the hood down to the grille, and, more distinctively, behind the headlamps to the fenders. All in all, it's a good-looking front end for a big SUV, including the nice touch of alloy-colored vents on each front fender behind the wheel, in recognizable eggcrate mesh. The fender flares are smoothly full, consistent with the LR4's other rounded edges, and Land Rover says the front flares actually reduce aerodynamic lift. The standard 19-inch wheels and 55-profile seem less suited to serious off-roading than, say, a smaller-diameter rim wrapped in a meatier sidewall, but they are what the market demands. At least the 19-inch alloys feature a sturdy, all-business seven-spoke design, while both of the 20-inch options are a bit frillier. Maybe the best view of the Land Rover is one people won't see unless they're 10 feet tall, the view looking down on the roof. The privacy glass on the third side window wraps up to the big dark Alpine roof that exposes the sky to the passengers inside, and forward of that is the power sunroof that's not quite so wide. From above, it sets the Land Rover apart and makes one realize what a special vehicle this is. From the rear, it's unmistakable Land Rover, with the stepped rear hatch and the massive vertical taillamps, all business like the front headlamps. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression The Land Rover LR4 comes with a 5.0-liter DOHC V8 with direct fuel injection and variable camshaft timing that makes 375 horsepower and 375 foot-pounds of torque. The design is shared with Jaguar, but the Land Rover version has been changed to be better suited for off road. It uses a deeper oil pan to maintain engine lubrication at high lean angles, and all the exposed pulleys, belts and motors have been waterproofed, including the starter, alternator, and air conditioning compressor. The LR4 was designed to be able to ford 28 inches of water. Coupled to a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission that shifts quickly, the V8 can accelerate the LR4 from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds, a downright sprightly pace given the LR4's weight. The transmission has Normal, Sport and Manual modes, and the electronic two-speed transfer case can be shifted on the fly. The LR4 meets ULEV2 emissions requirements. The LR4 is rated to tow 7700 pounds, though we don't see towing to be its forte. Trailer Stability Assist is an option that works like electronic stability control: sensors detect oscillation in the trailer, and use throttle intervention and braking to get the trailer to stop weaving. We recommend getting Trailer Stability Assist if you plan to tow. The suspension uses electronically controlled air springs and shock absorbers, providing excellent handling and little body roll in corners, especially for a hefty truck that rides this high off the ground and has a high center of gravity. The ride is smooth and the steering response is surprisingly good. It's a wonderful mix of luxury, silence and serenity. If you come upon a surprise in the road, the chassis and brakes and big tires will handle it. If you find a challenge in the middle of a corner, the LR4 takes it on with a minimum of fuss. The Terrain Response system has five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield and select the correct terrain, and the LR4 will drive accordingly, including setting the suspension height. Its capability in rough terrain earned it the crown for 2010 Off-Road SUV of the Year at the 16th annual Mudfest, a competition for SUVs put on by the Northwest Automotive Press Association. Our test of the LR4 included two days of off-road driving in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, over trails that exceeded 13,000 feet. The rock-crawling challenges we faced far exceeded anything most Land Rover owners will ever face, yet there was nothing that even caused our LR4 to pause, except maybe the dangers, when we climbed out to peer over the cliffs we might drop over if we made a big mistake. With guidance from Land Rover instructors riding shotgun, we saw first-hand the amazing things the LR4 was capable of, and how the sensors found traction in any situation, including climbing up steep bare rock covered with dust. Suffice it to say that you're unlikely to ever get stuck in the mud. We used Hill Descent Control much of the time, and it worked flawlessly to keep us out of trouble on steep downhill rocky paths. Gradient Acceleration Control kicks in to keep the car from going too fast, when Hill Descent Control isn't set. These sensors are so smart the best way to drive on steep, muddy downhills is with no feet, letting the system control wheelspin as you steer down the correct path. And going up, we used Hill Start Assist, to keep from sliding back when we went from the brake pedal to the gas. The large and quiet brakes do the job well, even when driving through water that covers them completely. We got out on the highway at high speeds, and they hauled the heavy LR4 down admirably. Brakes on the LR4 HSE are the same as the Range Rover Sport's 14.2-inch ventilated front discs and four-piston calipers, with 13.8-inch ventilated rear discs and twin-piston calipers. Source: New Car Test Drive Interior The Land Rover LR4 interior is a complete success in terms of comfort, luxury and utility. Everything in the cockpit is luxurious to the eye and hand, and the quality of the interior materials is high, beautifully fit and finished. Underway, it's very comfortable and quiet. The front-row power seats are beautifully stitched, supportive and comfortable. The thick multi-function steering wheel mounts a complete set of controls for audio, telephone and cruise control. The second features a rear seat split 35/30/35, with each section folding flat to afford limousine-like rear seat leg room in the third row, or to accommodate combinations of cargo and passengers. A third row is available for seven-passenger seating. Up front, the driver's controls are relatively easy to understand and use. Moving many accessory functions to the touch screen at the center of the instrument panel means that not as many switches or knobs are needed. Steering wheel stalks have been revised for 2012 for easier use and higher quality appearance. Also redesigned for 2012 is the thin film transistor (TFT) driver information screen within the instrument cluster, which can displays audio information, phone book entries and navigational direction symbols (augmenting the main navigation screen). For 2012, the phone book function can store several thousand entries, up from 700 in the 2011 LR4. For 2012, the Smart Key fob is smaller than before yet retains all functions, including lock, unlock, tailgate release and panic alarm. The base stereo includes a new virtual CD changer, which allows you to upload the contents of 10 albums (in uncompressed, full-quality format) onto the hard disc drive. The virtual discs can then be played as CD albums. Portable Audio Connectivity allows streaming and control of audio files from an iPod, iPad, or USB-connect device. In addition, Bluetooth allows playing music from a compatible phone or device through the audio system. For 2012, the navigation system has been updated with improved graphics. The Towards Guidance feature supplements the junction map and icon-based information with details of actual road signage seen by the driver along the route. And a new Say What You See voice activation for onboard and connected devices helps the user learn applicable voice commands by displaying a step-by-step format on the 7-inch touch-screen. The optional surround camera system uses five cameras, two facing forward, one on either side of the truck facing down, and one at the rear to give a near-360-degree view of surroundings. Camera views can be selected from the touch screen, and the view can be zoomed if necessary. Remarkably and fantastically, it shows you exactly where your trailer is headed during backup maneuvers, guiding you to the correct spot. This feature was developed for this reason, but also for checking ground clearances and terrain when driving off-road. Source: New Car Test Drive Summary The Land Rover LR4 delivers phenomenal off-road capability, luxury, comfort and panache. Its high-tech V8 engine offers an abundance of power and torque, although gas mileage is low because of the LR4's weight and shape. The ride is exceptionally smooth, handling good, considering its size, brakes are big, and safety is at the top of the heap. The interior materials and comfort are first class, and cargo capacity with the fold-flat second and third rows massive. The LR4 is simply untouchable in its off-road and foul-weather capability. Sam Moses contributed to this report after his test drive of the Land Rover LR4 in Washington's Columbia River Valley; with Jim McCraw reporting from Scotland. The CARFAX Price Adjustment is a tool that analyzes millions of used car transactions to measure how the combination of all the information reported to CARFAX affects the value of a particular vehicle. The vehicle's retail book value plus the CARFAX Price Adjustment will give you a more accurate measure of the vehicle's value. Use this tool, along with a vehicle inspection and test drive, to make a better decision about your next used car. First Owner When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership. New Owner Reported When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles. Ownership History CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1991 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history. Title Issued A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.

Rex does not sell cars with a "Salvage" title. Is it easy to transfer an R-title into my name?It sure is! Reconstructed titles function just like "clean" titles. Will insurance be more expensive?Nope! While Rex can't speak for every insurance company, a "reconstructed" title typically has no bearing on insurance rates. If I decide to sell the car later, will it be worth less because it is "reconstructed"?As Kelley Blue Book notes: A salvaged, reconstructed or otherwise "clouded" title has a permanent negative effect on the value of a vehicle. The industry rule of thumb is to deduct 20% to 40% of the Blue Book value, but salvage title vehicles really should be privately appraised on a case-by-case basis in order to determine their market value. So, it only makes sense that a car purchased at 30% below market value should be re-sold at a similar discount. How can I finance a "reconstructed" vehicle? It can be difficult to obtain a loan on a car with a branded title, but Rex may be able to help. Carwrex offers limited financing to well-qualified buyers, along with assistance in securing a loan through third-party channels. Call us at (304) 485-9739, or send an email to [email protected] for more information! Frequently Asked Questions 3 Month / 3,000 Mile PowerTrain Warranty What is a reconstructed title? A "Reconstructed" title is the title issued after a "salvaged" car has been repaired, inspected by a state agency, and deemed road-worthy again. Rex does not sell cars with a "Salvage" title. Is it easy to transfer an R-title into my name? It sure is! Reconstructed titles function just like "clean" titles. Will insurance be more expensive? Nope! While Rex can't speak for every insurance company, a "reconstructed" title typically has no bearing on insurance rates. If I decide to sell the car later, will it be worth less because it is "reconstructed"? As Kelley Blue Book notes: A salvaged, reconstructed or otherwise "clouded" title has a permanent negative effect on the value of a vehicle. Vehicle Review Vehicle Information ?Overview ?Introduction ?Walkaround ?Driving Impression ?Interior ?Summary Range Rover luxury on a smaller scale. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is an athletic SUV designed to bring on-road performance driving to the traditional Land Rover off-road experience. The five-passenger Range Rover Sport is available in two trim levels: HSE and Supercharged. The HSE is powered by a 375-hp 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine, while the Supercharged trim boasts a 510-hp 5.0-liter supercharged V8. Both powerplants feature direct fuel injection and are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift manual mode; additionally, Supercharged trims get steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Full-time four-wheel drive with Land Rover's acclaimed "Terrain Response" system helps tackle a wide range of off-road conditions, while Supercharged trims add Adaptive Dynamics with variable suspension dampening for sportier handling. Standard equipment on the HSE includes a power sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, LED tail lamps, leather upholstery, passive entry/start, a hard drive-based navigation system and a portable audio interface that supports USB and iPod connectivity. Supercharged trims are further outfitted with 20-inch wheels, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and satellite radio. Standard safety features include six airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic stability control with traction control and roll mitigation, front and rear park assist and tire pressure monitoring. A new Vision Assist Package offers adaptive front lighting and automatic high beam assist, along with a surround camera system. After an extensive refresh last year, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport carries over with minimal changes for 2011. A new GT Limited Edition is offered, featuring a unique exterior style package, exclusive 20-inch wheels, leather and simulated suede seat upholstery and an upgraded audio system. Source: Model Reviews Introduction The Range Rover Sport fits between the Land Rover LR4 and the flagship Range Rover in the Land Rover lineup, bridging the gap from a price standpoint. The Sport is the shortest of the three, both in overall length and in height, and it's built on a shorter wheelbase. And it only seats five. Range Rover Sport was substantially revised for the 2010 model year with fresh styling, a new 5.0-liter V8 and 6-speed automatic transmission, more luxurious interior, safety enhancements, additions to the Terrain Response system, and a new surround camera system designed to aid towing and driving off road. The 2011 Range Rover Sport lineup gets a new GT Limited Edition model in Fuji white with special trim inside and out and added luxury features. Compared with the big Range Rover, the Sport is seven inches shorter overall, on a wheelbase that's five inches shorter. It's a little narrower. And the roof is lower. Priced about $20,000 less, it's less luxurious inside and slightly less roomy. The Sport and Land Rover LR4 share platforms, drive systems, suspension, and powertrain. The Sport boasts more standard equipment, more upscale styling, and generally a more luxurious approach to the same mission: go anywhere, do anything, in any weather. The Sport rides on a 108-inch wheelbase, five inches shorter than that of the LR4. So it may seem neither here nor there. But the Sport has been rolling in accolades. Most recently, it was a double winner at Mudfest, a long-running annual competition for SUVs, put on by the Northwest Automotive Press Association. Twenty-three Northwest automotive journalists voted it SUV of the Year, and also, in the sub-class, Luxury SUV of the Year. Meanwhile, the Land Rover LR4, the Range Rover Sport's fraternal twin, won Off-Road SUV of the Year. It's powered by the same engine as the Range Rover and LR4, a compact new 32-valve V8 made by Jaguar that's gotten rave reviews after its first year. It makes 375 horsepower and 375 foot-pounds of torque, which we found to be plenty during our test drive of the Range Rover HSE. The hotrod Range Rover Sport Supercharged model pumps out 510 horsepower and 461 foot-pounds of torque. It's the latest generation of Eaton supercharger, a twin vortex, with dual intercoolers. All models use a smooth and quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission that was new for 2010, with Normal, Sport and Manual modes. It has a two-speed transfer case that can be shifted on the fly, with a low range that will drive the vehicle through unimaginably rugged offroad conditions, using the magical Terrain Response system. Contrasting stitching has been added to the leather upholstery in 2011, but the standard sound system on the HSE has been downgraded from a 480-watt, 14-speaker harman/kardon with 6 CD storage, to a 240-watt, 9-speaker harman/kardon single CD. The Range Rover Sport competes in the crowded midsize luxury sport utility vehicle segment with the Acura MDX, Lexus RX 350, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Infiniti FX, Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Toureg, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Source: New Car Test Drive Walkaround The Range Rover Sport got a whole new face for 2010, with a new hood, two-bar grille with a starry mesh design that Land Rover calls Jupiter, fenders with larger flares, sharp new side vents and relocated lower air intakes, and new LED front lamps, rear lamps, and turn indicators. It's a clean, integrated, and aerodynamically efficient package. The Range Rover Sport is visibly smaller than the Range Rover, which fits for these times. The overhangs are slightly shorter, raising its offroad capability by increasing the angle of obstacles it can climb or cross, without nudging the front or rear bumpers. The wheelbase is 5 inches less than the Range Rover, which adds nimbleness to the handling but doesn't much affect the ride quality, the suspension is so good anyhow. And its 7 inches less overall length makes parking easier. The lines are iconic; everyone recognizes a Range Rover, like everyone recognizes a Porsche. It's basically a big box, but British designers somehow have made it look sleek. It seems most Range Rovers are a titanium color (called Stornoway Grey, after a village in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, grey for the weather), which adds to the sleek effect. But we'd love to see a British Racing Green Range Rover Sport. Supercharged. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression The Range Rover Sport HSE we drove came with the luxury package, Vision Assist package, premium sound system, and 20-inch wheels. The Sport's 375-hp 5.0-liter V8 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission will hurl the 5500-pound truck from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.2 seconds, which is as fast as the prior 2009 4.2-liter supercharged engine, without the extra cost. What's more, the new engine is smaller, lighter and cleaner. That acceleration is plenty quick enough for passing, and it's wonderfully smooth. We took four high-school soccer players to their away game, a 100-mile round trip, and they were appropriately impressed when we passed slower cars on the two-lane road. The engine is the first home-built engine for a Range Rover, shared with its Jaguar cousins, and modified from the Jaguar design with a deeper oil pan to keep lubrication continuous when the vehicle is tilted steep angles, off road. To further prepare it for rugged duty, all of the electric motors, pulleys and bearings, plus the starter, alternator and air conditioning compressor, have been waterproofed. This enables the Sport to travel through water 27 inches deep. The ZF 6-speed automatic transmission shifts very quickly and smoothly, up or down, with Normal, Sport and Manual modes. The Supercharged adds paddle shifters. Land Rover developed the Range Rover Sport air suspension and the optional adaptive damping shock absorbers on the famous Nordschleife, the northern loop of the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, and it shows through to the average driver on a twisty country road. SUVs of this height and heft are not supposed to handle this well in the curves, and with so little body roll. There are limits, of course; but they're higher than one has a right to expect. The 20-inch low-profile Michelin tires on our Sport undoubtedly helped. We think we'd prefer the taller sidewalls of the 19-inch wheels for all around use, however. The Terrain Response system has five settings: Highway, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. All you have to do is look out the windshield and select for the correct terrain, and the Range Rover Sport will drive accordingly, including setting the suspension height. Our test included two days of driving off road (along with Land Rover LR4s) in Colorado's San Juan Mountains over trails that exceeded 13,000 feet. The rock-crawling challenges we faced were very challenging yet there was nothing that caused our Sport to even pause, except maybe the dangers that we perceived when we climbed out to peer over the cliffs we might drop over if we made a big mistake. With guidance from Land Rover instructors riding shotgun, we saw first-hand the amazing things the Range Rover Sport was capable of, and how the Terrain Response system found traction in any situation, including climbing up steep bare rock covered with dust. And climbing up, we used Hill Start Assist, to keep from sliding back when we went from the brake pedal to the gas. The Supercharged model uses the latest generation of Eaton supercharger, a twin vortex, with dual intercoolers. It also takes big Brembo brakes, with six-piston calipers in front. What this means is that it will accelerate from 0 to 60 in an eye-popping 5.8 seconds, and get back to a standstill in short space and without a groan. The Range Rover Sport meets ULEV2 emissions requirements, and is rated to tow 7700 pounds. Trailer Stability Assist is an option that works like stability control; sensors detect oscillation in the trailer, and use throttle intervention and braking to get the trailer to stop weaving. Source: New Car Test Drive Interior In 2010, the dashboard, instrument panel, door panels and seats were all redesigned and upgraded, and every gauge and switch was made more tidy and user-friendly. There are fewer switches overall, since many of their functions have been transferred to the 5-inch touch screen at the top center of the instrument panel. It's called TFT, for Thin Film Transistor. The center stack is easy to read and use. Range Rover Sport boasts a long list of standard equipment including pushbutton starting, a power tilt-and-telescope steering column, color driver information center between the main gauges, satellite navigation with voice recognition, ambient interior lighting with footwell and puddle lighting, and all of the usual power assists. However the harman/kardon sound system has been downgraded for 2011, from a 480-watt 14-speaker system to a 240-watt 9-speaker. The 480-watt system is optional now. We're surprised that heated front seats are optional, and that a power liftgate is unavailable. It's a stretch and a tug to get the liftgate down. The good news is that because the hatch window pops open separately, smaller things can be loaded in the rear without lifting the whole tailgate. The interior is beautifully made and tightly finished: sumptuous, comfortable, and quiet. The steering wheel is big and thick, having controls for audio, telephone and cruise control, and the seats are very supportive and comfortable for the long haul, with careful high bolstering. In 2011, handsome contrasting stitching in the leather has been added, standard. The optional surround camera system uses five cameras, two facing forward, one on either side of the truck facing down, and one at the rear to give a near-360-degree view of surroundings. Camera views can be selected from the main nav screen, and the view can be zoomed if necessary. This feature was developed to assist drivers in trailer hookups and trailer maneuvering, as well as for checking all-around clearances and terrain when driving off-road. It shows live high-resolution video as you go, which can be enormously entertaining when traversing streams, because if the water is clear, you can see the rocks under the water and steer around them. No other vehicle offers this feature. Source: New Car Test Drive Summary The Range Rover Sport costs $20,000 less than a Range Rover and is slightly smaller, which makes it more nimble. It uses the same great Jaguar V8 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission as the Range Rover. The cornering is remarkable for a vehicle this size. The stitched leather seats are sporty and supportive, and the interior is classy and functional. Its offroad capability is unsurpassed, which means flexibility and safety in winter. Sam Moses contributed to this report after his test drive of a Range Rover Sport in Colorado; with Jim McCraw reporting from Edinburgh, Scotland. Somewhere near this car’s build target, we’d say. Sure, it’s a fully functional and fast vehicle with all of the amenities a modern pro-touring car has, but it’s the details which sets this Challenger aside. Dubbed “Insidious” by its creator Dave Salvaggio, this rolling sculpture packs ten pounds of attitude into a five pound box. Hundreds of subtle body modifications Hilborn-injected 426 Hemi Five speed manual Two tone, show-winning paint Incredible custom interior MASSIVE presence When the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 debuted at the SEMA show in Las Vegas on October 30, 2007, Dodge went looking for people with the talent to showcase the best of the original. Original drag race cars were found, restored originals wore assembly-line fresh restorations, and Insidious went as the embodiment of creativity and customization. Originally a C code slant six car, this cast-off Challenger was the perfect base for a radical creation. Salvaggio Auto Design (www.salvagioautodesign.com) drew up the car, performed numerous modifications to the body, completely reworked the chassis, installed a custom interior, and installed a 426 Hemi with Hillborn EFI. That's the Cliffs Notes version--read on. Start with the body. Of course, expected touches like shaved door handles and trim are present. To spot what's different really requires another Challenger parked alongside: Shaved roof rail moldings, recontoured wheelwells, custom front fenders, flush-fit glass, a scratch-built grille and taillight panel, as well as zero exposed hardware. The hood skin was shaped from flat steel, the rear bumper was narrowed and drawn in, and the front grille, surround, header panel and front bumper are actually one piece. The fuel filter was relocated to the Dutchman panel, and uses a custom motorcycle pop-up screw cap. The paint merits its own discussion--it's black pearl on all surfaces, but from the main contour on the sides down it's overlaid with olive and sandstone pearls. When Mopar had it on display they used high-powered flood lights just to pick up on the color change. Inside, no surface or material was left untouched. Where original Challengers were held to low quality materials for cost reasons, Insidious had no such limitations. If it was originally vinyl, it's now leather, and then some. Polyester loop carpeting made way for genuine Wilton Wool, while the headliner is now Alcantara. The seats, covered front and back in Spinneybeck leather, feature suede leather inserts. The pistol grip shifter, again covered in leather, activates the Tremec TKO 600 transmission below. The Tuff steering wheel was redone in leather, and the spokes are painted the same color as the door panel inserts. The gauges are one-off pieces by Classic Instruments. Inspired by aircraft gauges they swing backwards--check out the pictures. The custom leather dash holds the power window, wiper and headlight switches, as well as access to the triple Tilton master cylinders for the brakes and clutch. A Pioneer DVD stereo with a flip-out screen takes care of the entertainment. Dynamat sound and heat insulation is used throughout the cabin. Vintage Air climate control keeps you cool in any weather. Under the hood is a 426 Hemi crate engine from Mopar Performance. As this was an earlier crate Hemi, it suffered from valvetrain issues from the factory. Before this one was fired up, it got all new pieces to prevent a possible disaster. The cam was stepped up, too, and together with the Hillborn EFI system, custom headers and exhaust system, it puts out north of 575 horsepower. Our guys spent hours tuning the engine to start and run like a modern car--no small feat. Be Cool's serpentine belt system is up front, holding all polished or painted accessories. What wiring wasn't hidden is on display for effect. The color on the motor carries underneath, too--this is a thoroughly engineered project. Flowmaster signed on to the project partway through, donating the first set of Super 44 mufflers available to the car. Sure, it's loud, but it sounds great. Both front and rear suspensions are highly modified, and all four wheels are independently suspended. Coilovers are at all four corners, there's rack-and-pinion steering up front and a Ford 9” center section out back with inboard disc brakes. Wilwood calipers are at all four corners for sure stops. Symbolic TS15 20" wheels are at all four corners, mated to Pirelli PZero tires--a big 245/35/20 in the front and 275/35/20 out back. Debuted on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2007, the car met with rave reviews. Its subsequent ventures resulted in trophies: Awards include the Flowmaster American Thunder Award at the Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, OH, and the Goodguys Fab Five at the Goodguys Chicagoland Nationals, Chicago, IL. This is a first class showpiece for anyone looking for the ultimate custom Challenger or for someone who appreciates fine craftsmanship. Challengers simply don't come better dressed than this one. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComIntroductionThe Range Rover Sport fits between the Land Rover LR4 and the flagship Range Rover in the Land Rover lineup, bridging the gap from a price standpoint. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComWalkaroundThe Range Rover Sport got a whole new face for 2010, with a new hood, two-bar grille with a starry mesh design that Land Rover calls Jupiter, fenders with larger flares, sharp new side vents and relocated lower air intakes, and new LED front lamps, rear lamps, and turn indicators. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComDriving ImpressionThe Range Rover Sport HSE we drove came with the luxury package, Vision Assist package, premium sound system, and 20-inch wheels. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComInteriorIn 2010, the dashboard, instrument panel, door panels and seats were all redesigned and upgraded, and every gauge and switch was made more tidy and user-friendly. Source: NewCarTestDrive.ComSummaryThe Range Rover Sport costs $20,000 less than a Range Rover and is slightly smaller, which makes it more nimble. The World's rarest of all Rolls Royces. one off Silver Wraith Roadster Over 5000 hours of a nut and bolt restoration to Pebble Beach standards starting with an excellent 'driver'. Hundreds of photos Proceeds from any completed sale will go to owner's family charity. (please do not request donations ) ............................... Numerous National Concours Awards This one-off example was designed and bodied by H. The MGB's performance was considered smooth at the time of its introduction, with a 0 to 60 mph time of barely more than 11 seconds. This car handles well as control was one of the MGB's keys to upgrade over the MGA. The engine was upgraded in October 1964 to a five-bearing crankshaft in an effort to improve reliability. The majority of MGBs were exported to the United States. In 1974, as U.S. air pollution emission standards became more rigorous, U.S.-market MGBs were de-tuned for compliance. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and passenger in a 30 mph impact with an immovable, 200-ton barrier. In late 1967, changes were made to create the Mark II model. Changes included synchromesh on all 4 gears with revised ratios, an optional Borg-Warner automatic gearbox (except in the U.S.), a new rear axle and an alternator in place of the dynamo with a change to a negative earth system. To accommodate the new gearboxes there were significant changes to the sheet metal in the floorpan, and a new flat-topped transmission tunnel. All models are rear-wheel drive. To meet US safety regulations, later North American exports got three windscreen wipers instead of just two (to sweep the required percentage of the glass), and also received a plastic and foam rubber covered “safety” dashboard, dubbed the “Abingdon pillow.” Other markets continued with the steel dashboard. Rubery Owen ROStyle wheels were introduced to replace the previous pressed steel versions in 1969 and reclining seats were standardized in 1970.MotoeXotica had one of these sought-after Mark II MGBs in stock, and it sold in a few days. Luckily, we have another one in our showroom. This time, the 1969 MGB Roadster Mark II is in the desirable British Racing Green color. The paint is a beautiful BRG and will invigorate any drive in this true classic sports car. Driving this is a pleasure because of an upgraded five-speed synchronized gearbox with overdrive with a price tag of more than $3,000.If you are experiencing a taste of classic English weather with some drizzle, the saddle vinyl top has excellent stitching with clear windows in impeccable shape to keep your head dry and safe. The glistening chrome bumpers give a feel of British design original to the vehicle. The interior has been restored to a fabulous degree. The saddle vinyl seats match the top, and the black piping gives the seats an excellent look. You can listen to the Rolling Stones, Beatles or the Who with the after-market Pioneer stereo (P410UB) AM/FM CD player. There are also Pioneer speakers on the two doors of this classic English roadster. There are no cracks in the dash of the gorgeous model MotoeXotica has. The steering wheel is Nardi with a smooth wood finish. Even though the steering wheel looks great, the horn is inoperable. All the lights — headlights and turn signals — work, and so do the unique three-arm wipers. The engine is a 1,798 cc (1.8 L) upgraded with a Weber side draft carburetor. This engine is also improved with an engine oil cooler and electric fan. These modifications will give you that nice feeling of a drive on the English countryside or the White Cliffs of Dover on the coastline. There is an after-market header leading into a Pace Setter exhaust system which sounds absolutely wonderful and, of course, the upgraded mini-lite wheels.Make this classic Brit yours and experience motoring across the pond anywhere in the world! This MG’s odometer currently shows 78,769 miles. This is believed to be actual, however, it is exempt due to age. The VIN is GHN4U166239G. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
