Great history, featured in the book, “Vapor Trail at Twilight”. Dixon Downey founded a plastic manufacturing company in 1946 and was famous for inventing plastic boat bumpers, the first PVC pipe elbows and connectors, the first plastic tail lights for Buicks, and manufacturing the first Hula Hoops. He sold the company and travelled the world, and in 1968 bought a barge to traverse the numerous channels in France. He bought this Autobianchi because it fit on the barge and allowed him to motor through the countryside. There are many pictures of it in the book. He shipped the car to Florida in 1995 and had it restored in 1996. In 2010, he gifted the car to his grandson shortly before he died. His grandson sold it to Mark Loustau, who lived on Catalina Island, off the coast of California in 2010. Mark bought it because Catalina has a length restriction of 10 feet for cars. I bought it in 2011 and have had a ball with it. Car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Please be aware that this Autobianchi does not have the original numbers matching engine. I know that this is a big deal for many cars, but for this car, I feel that the story is better. Dixon, after purchasing the car realized the 500 engine, like many of us that have driven one is gutless. It is like a kid's go kart. So, he did what many Americans would do - put in a larger motor for MORE POWER. Just like Carroll Shelby did, but on a much smaller scale :). In the early 70's Dixon took the car to a Ferrari mechanic and fitted the more powerful 650 engine and matching drivetrain, including the brakes, thus making it more fun to drive. Yes, you could get a period correct 500 engine, mill the block and re-stamp the matching numbers if it is that big of a deal to you (and have a cute show car that is scary to drive), but I love the ingenuity and enhanced story that fits the history of Dixon's 40 year ownership of this car. SPECIFICATIONS Manufacturer: Autobianchi SpA Origin: Milan, Italy Production: 9,000, only a handful left in the US Motor: Fiat 2-cyl., 4-stroke Displacement: 652 cc Power: 25 hp Length: 10 ft. Founded in 1899 by Eduardo Bianchi, the Bianchi Company made vehicles for 56 years. These included full-size cars, tanks, and trucks with Mercedes engines. But the factory was destroyed during the war and he had been unable to recover. In 1955, Milanese industrialist Ferrucio Quintavalle organized a new company involving Bianchi, Fiat, and the Pirelli Tire Company, called Autobianchi SpA. Trucks would continue to be manufactured by the firm, and motorcycles would be manufactured by Eduardo Bianchi SpA. Two years later, at the Milan show, the first car to carry the name Autobianchi arrived. The Bianchina Transformabile (Convertible) was one of the first adaptations of the 500 Nuova, using its chassis, engine, and transmission, but with a very attractively styled coupe body with a roll-back roof, reminiscent of the French Vespa 400. In 1958, it was given a stronger engine and became available as a sedan, coupe, convertible, and station wagon. During this year, Giuseppe Bianchi, Eduardo’s son, sold the family holdings in Autobianchi to Fiat, and in 1963, Fiat gained full control. In 1960, just over 30,000 of these cars were built. The 1960 Geneva show saw the debut of what was arguably the prettiest of all the models, the Bianchina Special Cabriolet. It was a little luxury car, with a luxury price, and it was immediately accepted by the fashionable jet setters as a second car or runabout. Designer Luigi Rapi drew a well-proportioned shape highlighted by a strong accent in the form of a side spear chrome molding. Interior fittings were more attractive. The indicators were fitted separately below the headlights, not on the bumper guards. The cooling slots on the side below the doors and the chrome borders below the body edge were eliminated. The windscreen was more angular. The model went through three series with minor alterations and improvements. This Autobianchi Special Cabriolet is fitted with the more powerful Fiat 126 Sport motor, 4-speed transmission, brakes and suspension. This motor and drivetrain was installed by a Ferrari mechanic when the car was in France, giving a useful boost in horsepower from 21 SAE horsepower to 25 SAE horsepower and significantly more torque. Top speed rose from 56 mph to 65 mph, and is much safer with the larger brakes. The cabriolet third series finished in 1968. The convertible (a coupe with roll-back roof) continued to be manufactured until 1970, while the sedan and station wagon ran until 1969. Notably, the special cabriolet, as demonstrated here, is rarer and, perhaps, even more attractive than the coupe.

Hopefully it will go to someone that holds the same passion and can appreciate the sexiness this model brings to the muscle cars scene. The Cobra runs great, the engine is very strong and pulls hard if floored. Drives straight and fast with no vibrations, very stable. Transmission shifts great into all gears. I drove it like a grandma most of the time but easily appreciated the horsepower and used it while moving in and out of traffic when I needed to. A/C, one of the lines on the low side has a very slow leak, to get it working I just recharge it and would blow cold air again. Rather than fool anyone I decided to leave it as it is so it can be properly taken care of. The Cabin Heating worked once in a while but hardly ever used it. Last time I tried, it didn't blow hot air, don't know what the issue is there. Handbrake not working, small cable broke 3 months ago. I installed the new replacement cable on the handle but didn't finish the install, the new owner can properly take care of it. Thump/Snap in front suspension when moving from a stop, sounds like Outer Tie Rod End, but I have not had time to pinpoint the issue so new owner will have to address this. Alternator half year old, bearing/pulley has small whine at times. Driver Power Seat leather worn and torn in some spots, Drive Power Seat motor is very tired and weak. Mach 460 rear Sub amps and speakers not working, might be disconnected? I never checked these out because I hardly ever used the sound system and always enjoyed listening to the engine and exhaust. Some light dents, chips and scratches (see pic's). Windshield wiper reservoir motor not working. Front Corner lights Rubber dried and some parts broke off, from the elements of nature, but does not affect the function of the lights in any way. Clear coat paint fade on Wing and upper portion of Rear Bumper. Right Fender behind corner light dent from hitting FWY Road debris. The time has come to sell my beloved 2005 Mustang GT. This car has been with me for a little over nine years and has been through a number of showings at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and three magazine features. I no longer have time to show it the love and attention I feel it deserves and am looking to sell it to an enthusiast that will enjoy it the way it is meant to be enjoyed. This car is a perfect blend of show and go with a beautiful custom paint job and a built, supercharged engine. The paint job, which was designed by the owner, Kris Horton of Cars by Kris, was laid down by Airhead Kustoms in 2009. It features House of Kolors Arctic White Pearl, Pearl Black, and Atomic Orange paint with a unique layered flame effect within its graphics. The standard GT front end was updated to the 2007-2009 Shelby GT500 nose and fitted with a Cervini's 2.5" cowl hood. The side skirts and rear valance are from Street Scene and feature a center-exit exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers. 2010+ side mirrors were retrofitted to the car as well to give a clean, updated look. The engine was rebuilt in 2009 as well using Keith Black dished pistons, forged H-Beam rods, ARP head studs, and many other new and improved parts to create a strong, boost-friendly engine. It was then topped with an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger kit and tuned by Racer's Edge Tuning in Downey, CA putting down 560bhp. The transmission was fitted with a ratchet shifter from TCI and a PI Triple Disk 3000rpm stall converter which makes for great positive shifts. The engine bay itself was color-matched to the exterior and outfitted with billet hardware and a custom-painted fiberglass radiator cover from Bangastang which matches the graphics on the hood perfectly. The entire interior has been redone and upgraded. This Mustang originally had a "Parchment" interior, which was code for "tan everything." The interior was stripped out of the car and sound deadened using a kit from QuietRide Solutions. The tan interior panels were replaced with black panels, the dashboard and console were smoothed and painted with the same Black Pearl and Arctic White that are featured on the exterior, and the dash pad, headliner, pillars, and rear package tray were covered in black suede. The front seats were replaced with Corbeau A4 reclining racing seats and all the seats were reupholstered in black leather, black suede, and Cinnamon leather accents. The custom headliner actually features the same flame pattern as the graphics on the exterior, which is always a fun piece to show off. The gauge and a/c bezels were all replaced with GT500 satin silver pieces as well. The chassis has been upgraded with Eibach ProKit springs and anti-roll bars, a Drake Muscle Cars differential cover and Motive 3.91:1 gearing. The standard brakes were ditched in favor of massive AP Racing 14.25" brakes with color-matched 6-piston calipers. The wheels are 3-piece 20" Petrol Traviatas, manufactured by TSW Wheels and are covered in Toyo T1R Z-rated tires. The car comes with two sets of taillights, one is an OEM set which is slightly tinted and sprayed in a matte clearcoat and the other is a blacked out set with LED lights from SpecD tuning. As mentioned in the Vehicle Condition section of this ad, there are a few minor issues with the car, but nothing to detract from the overall excellent condition of this car. The Mustang just hit 29,000 miles which is very low for its age. The engine, paint, and interior have less than 5,000 miles on them as well. For the price, you won't find a better example of a custom 2005 Mustang anywhere! Payment and Shipping will be arranged upon sales agreement.
