Those of us of a certain age remember the 205 GTI 1.9 as being THE hot hatch to have in the late 80s and early 90s. The 205 GTI gets all the plaudits now (and values of pristine cars have rocketed of late), but back then it was the 309 GTI that had the motoring magazines enthusing about it's combination of gutsy performance and pin-sharp handling. Autocar and Motor magazine named it "Best Hot Hatch" 3 years in a row, and in 1991 a 309 GTI won the Esso Superlube Saloon Car Championship, beating BMW E30 M3s and Ford Sierra Cosworths on the way to the title. The 309 GTI was produced in a limited numbers of just 5300 cars produced by early 1992, and featured Italian Red paint, Speedline alloy wheels with polished rims, full black with red accents interior, GTI badges, a leather-rimmed MOMO steering wheel . It had just 1 owner and 58K kilometers, and in near perfect order. and preserved in time-warp condition. According to 309 registry, there are just over 2000 309 GTI currently on the road,. Compared with the 6,000 or so 205 GTIs still around , the 309 GTI is a very rare model, and so to find one that has been preserved in standard, unmodified condition is very special indeed. Here is our assessment of the condition of the car: Exterior bodywork and paint The Ilaian RED paint is in fantastic condition, with a deep shine and virtually no blemishes. There are no dents on the body panels. The bumpers and side rubbing strips are all in excellent condition, as are the spotlights and foglights to the front spoiler. There are a couple of very minor mark to the rear quarter, only visible upon very close inspection. The GTI badges are all perfect. Chassis and structure The underside of the car is very clean, with the factory applied underseal and paint in excellent condition. The wheelarches are also very clean and all original. I can find no corrosion on the bodyshell at all, or any evidence of any previous repairs. Engine and gearbox Like travelling back 20 years! The torque-rich 1.9 XU9 engine burbles away at idle, has a lovely crisp throttle response and delivers punchy acceleration through the close ratio 5-speed gearbox. The clutch and gearbox change action both feel fresh and much more like a 2 year old car than a 26 year old one! All fluids are clean and to the correct levels, the car having been fully serviced in January 2015, including a brake fluid change. Unlike any other Goodwood I have seen in the past few years, it does NOT feature an aftermarket exhaust or an induction kit - just the standard items specified by Peugeot. Steering, ride, handling & brakes Absolutely superb throughout. The steering is direct, communicative and full of feel, the ride is supple, combining soft spring rates with taut damping, so at everyday pace the Goodwood feels civilized and comfortable. Turn up the wick a bit and the whole car comes alive, with fabulous neutral handling, no understeer to speak of, and wonderful balance through the bends. The brakes are perfectly matched to the weight of the car, delivering stability and confidence to the driver. All in all, it's a lovely thing to drive along an A or B road, and it doesn't need to be driven at warp factor 10 to deliver a fantastic driving experience! Interior, dash and controls The seats are in excellent supple condition, showing no visible wear, just a few subtle creases to mark the passage of time. The dashboard is very clean and surprisingly creak/rattle free for a 90's Peugeot. There is a blanking plate for the fuses I have had to replace the glovebox lid, as these are notorious for snapping their catches. The correct replacement lid fits perfectly. The original-fit Clarion PU-9318A radio/cassette unit is unfortunately no longer with the car, a more modern CD unit is fitted instead. All the gauges, controls and electrics work as they should. The doorcards and carpets are in perfect condition. The vacuum sealed glass sunroof works correctly, and the headlining is unmarked. As far as I can tell, the car has never been smoked in. Wheels and tyres The GTI only Speedline alloy wheels are in excellent condition, with no kerbing to the polished rims and no marks to the painted face of the wheels. The tyres are Bridgestones all around. The spare wheel is also in great condition, with a new budget tyre fitted History and paperwork The car comes with it's original Peugeot book pack, including Owner's Handbook, Maintenance Record and Dealer Location Guide. The Maintenance Record shows service stamps, the first 8 from the supplying Peugeot main dealer. Summary A very rare car indeed, and one which is as exhilarating to drive now as it was when new. Remaining in pristine condition throughout, this classic "hot hatch" has benefited from the care and attention of a long term owner from new, which has helped it avoid ever being "just an old Peugeot". It has moved seamlessly from cherished new car to cherished modern classic, and may well be unique in that respect as so few Goodwoods were ever produced. I have taken a large number of detailed pictures of all aspects of the car, available to upon request. What does BRZ stand for? Boxer engine - Rear wheel drive - Zenith in Passion!I recently purchased this gem from its original Florida owner with the intent to keep it as my daily driver and sell my Ford Focus ST. However, after spending a couple of months with the car, I've decided that I need to sell it instead. Now in my 50's and 6'4" tall, I believe that the larger and more practical Focus ST will simply be a better fit for me in the long run. I really do hate that to be honest, because I love this car and everything else about it. It runs, drives, sounds, looks, and even smells like a new one, and is a pure joy to drive. With its light weight, balanced sporty handling, and low mounted boxer engine, this car impresses. The normally aspirated 2.0L engine produces ample power for the car in the low rev range, as the fuel map and valve timing allow it to be highly economical in this everyday mode. But when you ask it for more power and the valve timing changes as the revs rise, a track ready character emerges and a smile comes to your face. Since owning the car and putting 2,514 miles on the odometer, I have yet to get less than 30 mpg on a tank of gas. On the highway I've been able to get up to 39 mpg on one tank (42 per computer but 39 calculated)! Around town I typically get 30-32 mpg! I just filled her up with gas for you, and got 31 mpg on my last in town tank.Galaxy Blue Silica is a less common color choice for the BRZ, but it's my personal favorite. It was limited to the 2013 model year only, therefore it can be difficult to find one now, especially in this kind of condition. If you have been looking for “the one”, then you no longer have to look because you have now found it! Hurry up and make it yours before someone else does!This beautiful 6 speed manual BRZ has been exclusively doctor owned and driven. It has never been tracked or driven hard. It has been involved in no motor vehicle accidents or fender benders. Other than the window tint, bright white LED interior and license plate lighting, a professionally painted and installed “shark fin” antenna, and debadging, it is and has remained completely stock. The limited trim BRZ comes with all that the Premium trim does plus Bluetooth keyless access & start, leather upholstery with Alcantara inserts, dual zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and side view mirrors, fog lights, body color rear trunk spoiler, and an antitheft security system. The optional equipment on this one includes an auto dimming mirror with compass and Homelink universal transmitter, a protective rear bumper applique', chrome fender trim package, and wheel locks (which are currently uninstalled because I've had no need for them). This BRZ limited has never been smoked in, never driven in snow, and never been exposed to pets. It has always been garage kept, and very well maintained. I just recently completed the 15,000 mile service with a meticulous inch by inch bumper to bumper inspection (I have past experience as an auto mechanic and machinist, and because I am a pathologic perfectionist, I have done my own maintenance to spec for nearly 4 decades). This baby is ready to roll and in need of nothing. The owner’s manual, original window sticker, previous service records, a bottle of touch-up paint, wheel locks with key, spare tire and tools, and a remote key fob (with a mechanical backup key) will also be included in the sale. Unfortunately, the original owner misplaced the extra OEM key and was unable to find it. If a spare key fob is needed it will have to be obtained then programmed at a Subaru dealership. The Sirius/XM satellite radio subscription however is prepaid (courtesy of the original owner) through June of 2015! The free and clear title is currently in my hand, for a quick and easy transaction as long as your funds are available.This particular BRZ is exceptionally clean, and has been meticulously detailed over the past several weeks to “like new” or “better than new” condition. On the exterior, all of the minor scratches and stone chips that can be expected with normal wear and tear of a used car have been scrupulously touched up, sanded down, and buffed out to a smooth glossy finish. Areas of the clear coat which should not have even come from the factory with texture (roof, hood, trunk deck, fender flares, etc.) on a car with such nice beautiful lines have been carefully wet sanded, polished and buffed again and again to achieve a remarkable luster while still leaving adequate layer of protective clear. It's not completely clear of all factory texture (orange peal) as the pictures will show, but I think you'll be hard pressed to find even a BRZ show car with a glossier finish. A fresh coat of Zymol carnauba wax has been applied. Know that despite my efforts, the paint is not perfect, but it’s pretty close. There are still a few minor paint defects and areas that I touched up that can still be found on close up critical inspection, but you really have to be looking for them. Regardless, this car is beautiful. Pictures fail to capture the metallic and pearlescent nature of the paint.The light weight OEM wheels are in like new condition with no curb rash, dings, or stone chips. I’ve removed them from the car, polished them, and coated them with Zaino show car polish (polymer sealant) to help keep them clean and protected from brake dust and the elements. When I remove or rotate tires, I always take the opportunity to closely inspect and detail the suspension components, brakes, and wheel wells, as well as the undercarriage. It may not be quite ready for the mirrors on the ground at your next car show (I didn't break out the polish for that), but it's not too far from museum quality clean even underneath. The tires are all evenly worn with 5-6/32” of tread remaining (about 40% left). I've lowered my buy it now price to the point where you can buy a new set of tires and still feel like you've got a great deal! The interior of this BRZ limited is very clean and the comfortable and supportive leather seats with alcantara inserts (for better grip in the twisties) are like new with no signs of wear, tear, or stain. The same can be said about the carpet, door panels, and headliner. There is some very mild expected wear in the right heel area of the of the driver side floor mat and there are a few minor scratches on the scuff plates of the door sill (which are the same as those I often see on brand new cars). A few small scratches or scuff marks can also be found on the console and center stack if you look closely for them. Aside from this, the interior looks brand new. Of course, the current 911 is a technological tour-de-force, brimming with multifunction display screens and computer-controlled systems. But when you're charging down your favorite back road, hands at 9 and 3 on the upright steering wheel, with those five round gauges in front of you and the rear-mounted engine at full song, the 911 is pure mechanical harmony. You just don't get the same car-and-driver connection in other premium sports cars, and that's why the 911 continues to justify its lofty price of admission. Remarkably, Porsche has managed to preserve the 911's unique character while adding new technologies and new configurations that broaden its appeal. If you've ever been in an old air-cooled 911, you know that these cars used to be raw performance machines, with minimal concessions to comfort and convenience. Note that all 911s have a "2+2" layout with vestigial rear seats except the GT3, which is strictly a two-seater. The base-model 911 Carrera starts with 19-inch staggered-width alloy wheels with summer tires, automatic bi-xenon headlights, rear parking sensors (standard on Cabriolet; optional on coupe), heated mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, four-way adjustable power seats (with manual fore-aft), a manual tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, leather upholstery, a 7-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, Bluetooth and a nine-speaker audio system with a CD player and a USB/iPod interface. The Carrera S adds a more powerful engine, 20-inch wheels, a slightly lower ride height, adaptive suspension dampers (PASM) and a torque-vectoring rear differential. Those leather slats cost a cool $1,200, by the way, but they sure smell nice when the heat's on.Powertrains and Performance The 911 Carrera, Carrera 4 and Targa 4 models are motivated by a 3.4-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine rated at 350 hp and 287 pound-feet of torque, while the Carrera S, Carrera 4S and Targa 4S upgrade to a 3.8-liter six-cylinder with 400 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the Carrera S Powerkit (unavailable on Carrera/Carrera 4/Targa 4) increases output to 430 hp. The GTS comes standard with the latter. The "4" in these model names stands for all-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive is standard except on the Targa, Turbo and Turbo S. The base, S and GTS models start with a seven-speed manual transmission, but Porsche's PDKseven-speed automated manual is offered as an option. An automatic engine stop-start function (to conserve fuel when the car is stationary) is standard. The rear-wheel-drive GT3's 3.8-liter engine boasts a 9,000-rpm redline as well as an astounding output of 475 hp and 325 lb-ft. No manual transmission is available, as it comes standard with the PDK transmission. The all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo flaunts a turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that cranks out 520 hp and 487 lb-ft. The Turbo S raises the stakes to 560 hp and 516 lb-ft. The PDK transmission is the only available transmission on these models. The Sport Chrono package (standard on the GTS and Turbo S) adds a hard-core Sport Plus driving mode that includes a racy shift program and launch control on PDK cars, while manual 911s with this package get an amusing "Gearshift Assistant" gauge that tells you when to shift. In Edmunds performance testing, a Carrera Cabriolet with PDK and launch control turned in a 4.8-second 0-60 mph time. More impressively, a Carrera S coupe with PDK leapt to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds (again with the aid of launch control). Should you still have Maverick's "need for speed," a 911 Turbo S we tested blasted to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds flat. The regular Turbo and GT3 should be just a few tenths slower. Fuel economy for the 911 is generally respectable. The base 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 coupes are rated at an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined (20 city/28 highway) with the PDK transmission, dropping to 22 mpg combined(19 city/27 highway) with the manual. The Carrera S returns the same 22 mpg combined with either transmission. The Carrera 4S is rated at 22 mpg combined with PDK and 21 mpg combined with the manual. The Turbo S with the optional carbon-ceramic brakes also stopped in just 98 feet.Interior Design and Special Features As expected of Porsche, the 911 offers ample headroom and legroom in its snug front seats. Those seats can be specified in a few different forms, with varying degrees of adjustability and lateral bolstering, but even the base chairs provide superb support for both long-distance and enthusiastic driving. The rear "seats," however, are very small; most 911 owners know them better as cargo shelves. Still, they're big enough to fit small children, and that does give the 911 a practical advantage compared to two-seat-only rivals. The front trunk (remember, there's an engine in the back) measures a paltry 5.1 cubic feet. But in our year-long test of a 911 Cabriolet, we generally found that it holds more stuff than you think it might. Despite the limited cargo space, the 911's thoughtful interior layout and modern amenities make it well suited to daily use. Navigation, smartphone and audio functions are easily accessed and operated through both the touchscreen interface and the numerous physical buttons that line the elevated center console, and there's also a handy stalk on the steering column that acts as a redundant multifunction controller.Driving Impressions The right engine for your 2015 Porsche 911 is a matter of personal taste, as there's not a bad apple in this barrel. Although the base 3.4-liter flat-6 doesn't really wake up till you get past 4,000 rpm, exploiting that peaky power band is gratifying in its own right, and the noises are pure Porsche magic. If you want more midrange punch, the S- and GTS-spec 3.8-liter engine provides a palpable upgrade without sacrificing any high-rpm thrills. As for the Turbo and Turbo S, they're just dumbfoundingly fast, though their engines sound far less appealing in normal driving. As long as you're not the kind of purist who thinks an automatic GT3 is blasphemous, then the GT3 gives you the best of both worlds -- wicked acceleration and a glorious 9,000-rpm redline. Speaking of PDK, it's lightning-quick and nearly flawless in all situations, though we still feel the seven-speed manual fosters a tighter bond for drivers so inclined. For everyday driving, the 2015 Porsche 911 won't ever be confused with a luxury coupe. The ride quality can be surprisingly stiff if you've got the big wheels and standard suspension. But the available adaptive dampers go a long way toward delivering a genuinely livable ride. The cabin is reasonably quiet at speed, solidifying the sense that the 911 is a world-class grand-touring machine. But you really need to hit up your favorite road or local track day event to have the 911's performance heritage shine through. The steering is quick and precise, and overall the 911 gives you a nearly unparalleled sense of control and engagement. It works better the harder you drive it. I bought this car in April of 2013 to convert it into a KITT replica from the classic 1980's television series Knight Rider. I have enjoyed it ever since, especially watching it come together. Through FaceBook and other public outlets, I have made many new friends and made contact with hundreds of fellow replica builders around the world. It has been a great experience! I love this car but I'm ready to let it go to a new home! There is nothing wrong with the vehicle and it is fully paid off, so I am not in a hurry to sell it. It served it's purpose for me and I no longer need it to feel fulfilled! So in order to answer some common questions, I have created a Question and Answer section below with lots of pertinent information. If I've missed anything, please feel free to contact me and I can better answer your questions. Q: What year and model is your car? A: My replica is a 1991 Pontiac Firebird, base trim model. Q: What made you decide to use this particular vehicle and not an earlier model? A: I felt more comfortable driving around in a 90’s car than an 80’s car. Primarily because of advances that were made during the 10 years Pontiac produced the Third Gen Firebird; engine, suspension, impact zones, bonding agents, etc. Q: Is your car 100% screen accurate compared to KITT in the television series? A: Since my car is a 1991 model, it does not have the Trans Am side vents near the front wheel fenders. It also retains the ground effects that only were produced during the 1991 and 1992 model run. If you watch old episodes of the series and look carefully, you'll spot countless variations of the car throughout the show. Many different cars were used for a variety to shots. Therefore it is impossible to find a replica that is 100% accurate! Q: Why did you keep the 1991/1992 ground effects on your car? A: I was inspired by another replica out there that was built using a 1992 Firebird base model with a V6 engine. In my opinion it was one of the finest KITT’s ever produced by a conversion enthusiast. It’s still my favorite! Plus the ground effects make my KITT stand out. Q: What have you done so far to your replica? A: All new paint, new headliner, new carpet, repainted center console from a 1982 Trans Am, new center console cover, PMD seats with new upholstery, and of course the infamous 4th season front nose with top of the line quality LED scanner, and a high-end blackout taillight cover (partially installed). Also, the heavily sought after 15” Turbocast wheels with matching bowling ball hubcaps. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Oh, and new tires. Less than 500 miles on them!Q: Where did you have your car painted?A: My car was painted by a company in Northridge, California called Picture Car Warehouse. They are a motion picture car supplier that has been building cars and props for multi-million dollar films for decades, such as The Fast and the Furious series, the Judge motorcycle from the movie Dredd, vehicles from the films Argo and Rush Hour 3, just to name a few. You can go to their website and see some of their work. You can also google the owner Ted Moser and view a short film made about him and his process. They did a stellar job on the car, which cost close to $8000 to complete. I had another source value the paint job at $10,000! The result is a finish that looks like a black mirror when you look into it! The paint was a two-stage application and was wet-sanded afterwards in order to remove ripples and orange peel. You could literally use the reflection of this car to get ready in the morning it's that clear! Q: What is your favorite part? A: I would have to say besides the super cool scanner, the Turbocast wheels. They are the accurate 15x7 size and are hard to come by. They’re almost like the holy grail of Knight Rider conversion parts. Once you put them on your car, you immediately see KITT materializing before your eyes. And they’re expensive! Q: Why did you choose a car without T-Tops and a manual transmission? A: I bought my car in original condition. It was a great price and didn’t require any real TLC to function. Not having T-Tops was a trade-off for a car that had not been molested or modified with questionable aftermarket parts. Same with the stick shift transmission! The only part of the car that is not original is the Formula/Trans Am hood that was added during the painting process. It is the bulge hood with the scoop running down the center. And it makes the car look menacing! Q: What vendors did you use to build your replica? A: Lectric Enterprises (Brenon Fulbright), Jay Ohrberg, Knight Designs (Billy Gunter), and Advanced Designs in Automotive Technology (Don Colie). These are all high quality vendors. Q: How does the front scanner work?A: Very simply! There is a control box inside the car that you can operate the scanner with. You can adjust the speed at which the scanner oscillates, the pattern, and there are even sounds built in which filter out through a waterproof marine speaker mounted underneath the chassis of the car.Q: Who designed your scanner?A: A company called Lectric Enterprises. One of the best vendors in the business. The cost was close to $700. It came with the control box mentioned above! Eventually I changed out the scanner with another vendor because it fitmy fiberglass bumper better, but I was able to use the original control box with. As a bonus the new owner will received a spare scanner built by a vendor named Joe Huth. This scanner is considered one of the most screen accurate available! Q: Why should I buy your unfinished replica when I can build one on my own for less? A: If I had to do it over again, I would buy a finished replica instead of building one from scratch. Getting a car painted is easy (albeit expensive), and doing maintenance is not overly challenging. But wait times for parts, especially the highest quality, can take a long time. Unless you have access to a body shop, fiberglass materials, electronics components, upholstery, a wealth of high-end tools and machinery, building a car for under $20,000 on your own will be very difficult. Plus you have to have the knowledge to do it all! Q: How much has been invested in the car?A: A good friend and fellow replica builder once said to me: "I stopped counting after $10K!" Honestly I don't know the exact amount, but so far somewhere in the neighborhood of $25K, excluding the high quality dashboard I have on order with Knight Designs.Q: What does a completed Knight Rider KITT replica cost?I estimate that a fully-functioning KITT replica with all the bells and whistles would cost at least $35K. And the price can only go up from there! I once saw a KITT that could back out of the driveway on its own! Q: Does your car have a clear title? A: My car has a 100% free and clear California title! I will include a detailed Auto Check report for free for your piece of mind. The registration and tags are paid up and are good till March of 2016! Also, the car recently passed California’s strict emissions test, one of the fiercest in the nation. Q: Are there any other upgrades to the car that you have not mentioned? A: Probably. Building one of these cars is very complex and time consuming. I have done my best in regards to summarizing the inventory of work done to the vehicle. As an added bonus I will also INCLUDE ALL EXTRA pieces that I acquired during the project. For instance, I have a single extra PMD seat (a set usually costs $400), miscellaneous interior plastics, a genuine 1982 Trans Am rear bumper cover, and much more. It will ALL go to the new owner! I will load it up inside the car when it is delivered. Oh, and I have a few boxes of very expensive Dynamat sound deadener sheets… that stuff is not cheap! Q: Do you have anymore pictures of the car?A: Yes, a boat load. But they cannot all fit on eBay. I have some on my FaceBook page and I can also provide more to interested parties.Q: What else does the car need to be a complete replica?A: The exterior is 99% complete. It just needs the rear blackout installed over the taillights. That piece is included in the sale. Other than that, the front passenger hubcaps needs to be refinished because I scratched it on a curb. But that is an easy fix. I have 95% of all the parts needed to complete the inside of the car, the dash, the gauges, the custom Gullwing steering wheel and switchpods, and the lower console apparatus.
