While we love a well-done car (reference our very own '57 Chevy, for instance,) we loathe hack jobs. Unfortunately, that's what you'll most likely find when you go to buy one. When we see the right ones, though, we'll offer them for sale. This car fits: Solid build quality, the right parts, and it's well sorted. This car drives as good as it looks. An original steel body Titled as a 1938 car A very cool hot rod Extensive paperwork, receipts Big block power, every creature comfort You couldn't possibly build one for this price Starting with an original '38 Tudor shell, a plan was formed at Heartland Rod Warehouse in Berryton, KS. A clean body, a fully custom interior, a competent chassis, and big block power. Outside, you'll find the result of 860 man hours in the bodywork alone. While the job seems straightforward--after all, it's just a mild custom, right? Well, yes and no. First, body fit on a 1938 anything isn't what you'd call "close," and that's before adding new fenders, smoothed steel running boards, a rear roll pan, flushing up the taillights, frenching in the license plate and exhaust outlets, shaving the door handles and much, much more. Up front you'll find a stock grille flanked by replacement headlights in those big fenders. Amazingly, the fenders are the only fiberglass panels on the car! Sharp-eyed Ford fanatics will notice the '39 engine side covers, which are less "busy" than their '38 counterparts. The hood ornament and all other brightwork was shaved or painted body color. The windshield is a one-piece affair with a flushed gasket. The doors and decklid lost their handles in favor of electric solenoids, and the rear deck now stays open thanks to pneumatic cylinders. Boyd Coddington Impulse Series billet wheels anchor the car to the ground. The candy flames add a little whimsy to a car which obviously doesn't take itself too seriously. Popped the hood expecting some random rebuilt 350, you'll be pleasantly surprised to see a big block Chevy instead. In going through the receipts we found that it's the car's centerpiece. It's a true 512 "Hi Perf" block, and those aren't cheap or easy to find. It was then sent to Gessford Machine, one of the premier engine builders in the midwest. There, they checked everything over, Magnafluxed the bock, bored it .030 over using torque plates, line bored the mains, and blueprinted all dimensions. A stock forged 454 crank was checked and ground, stock forged rods were reconditioned and had new Speed Pro forged pistons hung. The rotating assembly was balanced with the harmonic balancer and flexplate installed. The short block came together with new bearings and all ARP fasteners. A Comp XE268H cam was slid in, a new double roller chain was hung out front, and work progressed to the heads. They're a pair of 781 oval ports (torque's important here) that were CC'd, have had a competition 3 angle valve job, new guides, new seals, new Comp springs and a cleanup cut for straightness. Comp Magnum roller rockers work with Comp pushrods to actuate the valves, which were milled to dial in their height, and springs which were shimmed to even out the spring rates. It's details like that which separate a good engine from a great one! A Holley Street Avenger carb, a polished and smoothed dual plane intake, cool finned valve covers and Sanderson shorties finish off the powerplant. A Griffin radiator keeps things cool--this car was built to run in the sweltering Kansas summer heat. Inside, there's a lot to see. Heartland built the dash from scratch, and it's all metal. Auto Meter gauges keep you informed, while a $1900 stereo keeps you entertained. Talented stitchwork is everywhere from the bound carpets to the headliner. Custom door panels, recovered bucket seats, power windows, tilt wheel and more add to its appeal and your comfort. You'll find Vintage Air climate control, Dakota Digital cruise control, billet pedals and more. Look at the pictures and you'll constantly find new tricks. Underneath, there's a chassis from Heinzman Street Rods painted in GM Torch Red. There's a narrowed Heidt's kit up front and a 9" axle out back. Wilwood polished calipers are at all four corners while rack-and-pinion steering guides your way. Cruising is a pleasure thanks to the 700R4 that's in the middle. Extra coolers for the transmission and engine oil are underneath, too. The entire underbody is covered in thick bedliner for a quieter ride and less maintenance. There's nothing too trick under here, but you'd be amazed at how well this car drives. The build quality can't be talked about enough. This car starts right up, drives straight, and everything works. 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe with TOTAL, comprehensive numbers matching engine (w/ upgraded S-spec components) rebuild finished in April 2015 (engine is still being broken in…currently at 800 miles), original window sticker, sales invoice, maintenance logbook, owner’s manual, etc. I purchased this 911 a bit under two years ago as I have always wanted a long-hood 1st gen 911. While I was open to any quality LWB (’69-’73) 911, my hope was to find a clean ’72 as I wanted the unique 1-year only features of the ’72. I found this car from a consignment broker in Michigan who was representing the original owners and based on the clean, 100% rust free frame & shell, it was obvious this 911 never saw a MI winter road. Car sold new on Sept 20, 1972 to Don & Lynn Pangborn in Grand Rapids, MI and appears from the paperwork to have been Lynn’s car its whole life. My desire for a 1972 911 is based off the following stats: Only year for the unique, rear passenger oil-filler door. While obviously not a huge deal, I liked the fact the ’72 “Four Door” 911 is the only year of that unique feature. Yes there is debate back & forth as to the true vs. perceived improved handling characteristics of the 1972 911 due to its movement of the oil tank forward, but honestly I didn’t really care…I just think the extra door is cool. My car does handle amazingly (but that probably has more to do w/ the lowered, sport suspension and upgraded sway bars).1972 marked the 1st year of the 915 transmission. This bullet-proof transmission was so good; it literally didn’t get replaced until 1987 with the intro of the G50. 15 years of service over essentially four different eras of 911 (’72-’73 2.4L - last of the long-hoods, ’74-’77 2.7L - impact-bumper ‘grenade’ engine years, ’78-’83 - 3.0L SC, and ’84-’86 - 3.2L beginning run of the Carrera) obviously demonstrates the 915 trans is a proven work-horse.1972 marked the 1st year of the upgraded, larger & more powerful 2.4L engine with its superb mechanical fuel injection system.1972 was the last year of the chrome air vents & trim around lens (’73 changed to black). To me, the cosmetic charm of the 1st gen 911’s is their use of chrome…never again would Porsche use chrome as such a prevalent stylistic feature.Again, my desire was to find a #’s matching long-hood as I wanted to enjoy the go-cart-like handling of the LWB 911’s, yet also had an eye for a quality investment opportunity, so the #’s matching aspect was a must for me. It’s no secret the long-hood prices have been sky-rocketing lately, and I have no doubt this will be a 6-figure car in the not too distant future. I very much want to keep this car; but too many cars, three sons under age 5 and the fact I spent almost $30,000 on the engine rebuild alone in the last year (see summary below), it’s time I let this car go. I actually planned on keeping it when the engine blew, but alas the engine build costs almost doubled, so it’s time to recoup some cash. I could have built the engine for cheaper, but every step of the way I couldn’t bring myself to put in wrong, cheap or mismatched parts. The history I have with the car leading to this point is as follows: As mentioned, I purchased the car from a MI broker. I was told owner had the car for since new and used it sparingly via PCA events. I was also told it was a complete #’s matching vehicle, but the owner didn’t have a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity to prove such a statement. Since the car checked out (both mechanically & from a rust/rot standpoint), and the fact there was so much original paperwork that came with the car, I decided to gamble and purchase the vehicle without the CofA. As promised, when I received the CofA, the engine/trans #’s were correct and it also verified it’s a factory Irish Green example w/ tan interior (obviously the current black/gray interior is not as it left the factory). I had it shipped to CA via a closed carrier and set out to upgrade a few cosmetic features I wasn’t thrilled with. As with all new classics, I dropped it off with my trusted mechanic at European Car Specialist of Newport Beach, CA (http://europeancarspecialist.net) and had him go through the whole vehicle for inspection, tune-up and replacement of any obvious worn parts. The vehicle was in great shape, but it still cost around $3,000 to correct a bunch of minor routine issues. The vehicle was also sitting at stock US ride height, so I had it dropped a few inches and had all 4-wheels aligned. I replaced the stock US headlights w/ H4 euro spec versions. Even after the adjustments, the engine was still running a little rough due to a sub-par performing fuel injector pump, so we pulled it out and had it professionally rebuilt (for a cost of an additional $3,000+). The steering and suspension were the tightest of any vintage 911 I’d ever driven to date, so no need to correct any issues in that area. Anyone that gets behind the wheel will instantly feel how it reacts perfectly and without delay to driver input as the precision is simply marvelous. Cosmetically, it came to me with the front & rear fiberglass RS bumpers & rear ‘duck tail’ engine lid cover, yet no chrome deco on bumpers or sides. I was planning on returning the vehicle to 100% stock sheet metal as I prefer the stock look, but once the engine blew, funds had to be directed to that project. I did add side OEM chrome trim and installed the bumperettes. Yes…I know the bumperettes don’t really go w/ the RS bumpers, but again, I’m addicted to the 1st gen chrome, so the look held me over until I could replace the fiberglass with original sheet metal. The rest of the vehicle is all steel and in superb condition. Here’s a breakdown of the interior / exterior areas & condition: · Sheet metal is near perfect. All original metal (w/ exception to fiberglass bumpers) with paint that is close to flawless. No dents or scratches and sheen is deep, glossy and smooth throughout. Probably a respray (looks too good to be ’72 vintage) of the original Irish Green, but I don’t have any history or details on the age of the paint. NOTE: I apologize for the poor iPhone picture quality, I’m no photographer and don’t have the time to get it shot professionally. The pictures outside appear to wash out the color somewhat…if you look at the pictures of it in the garage (next to my ’72 K5 Blazer); those pictures best represent the shade of green as it appears in person. · Wheels are unique, OEM ‘cookie-cutter’. I have a set of Fuchs that I was going to put on the car but never got around to. I’m open to include those in the sale for an additional cost. · Seats are obviously not original, but Recaro (semi racing as they have shoulder harnesses if desired…connected to rear removable cross bar), in black and dark gray to go with the rest of the interior. Again, not my preferred look, but they are actually very comfortable seats and support the driver/passenger very well. The more I use them, the more I like them (originally I was going to pull them and replace with stock…but at this point in time if I kept the car, I would probably just reupholster them in all black leather). · Dash was replaced approximately 3 years ago and in perfect condition. · Door card pockets are worn & slightly sag. For a perfect interior look, I would replace eventually. · New old stock Momo 370mm steering wheel. It was a challenge for me to find the slightly larger diameter Momo as most are 330-350mm. The larger diameter is by no means “large’, but just big enough to give you visibility of the gauges (I found the 330-350 versions obstruct dial viewing). It also has a superb feel as it has a thumb indentation design all the way around. Hard to explain, but you feel how perfect it was designed the minute you wrap your hands around it. · Headliner is perfect with no cuts or tears. · The rear headrest/pad has been upgraded with the full head unit install that has built-in speakers (plus I upgraded to a new Sony in-dash head-unit, so music system is loud if you desire). · Gauges are all original minus the center, white tach. I was going to replace, but after the famous Magnus Walker spent some time with my car after I purchased (see below story & pics), I figured I couldn’t replace it as it’s proof Mr. Walker spent some time with my car. Truth be told, the engine blew shortly after Magnus ravaged the car for a little while (with me & my then 4 year old son holding on for dear life)…so I plan to tell Magnus the next time I see him he’s on the hook for my engine rebuild (ha, ha)! Gas, oil pressure, tach, speedo all work perfectly, but oil level and trip/car odometer are currently not spinning regularly. · All lights, horn, blinkers, wipers, e-brake work as they should. Upgraded H4 ‘Euro Spec’ headlights. · Glass and rubber in great condition & doors open/shut perfectly (you can tell this car has not been hit or damaged). Zero water gets in when washed. · Both door locks work perfectly. · Again, ZERO rust/rot issues…the car is clean & dry and appears to have spent its entire life in a garage and not driven in foul weather. The undercarriage is not “show-ready clean” as this car is driven on the open road regularly (I’m not a trailer queen type of guy, but actually enjoy my classics), but I can state emphatically there are NO rot issues with this vehicle. · Original tool kit, jack, maintenance book & my receipts showing over $30K in parts spent on the vehicle in 2014. · Certificate of Authenticity proving #’s matching engine, trans and color. Shortly after I purchased the car, my wife surprised me with a visit to Magnus Walkers house in downtown LA. If you’re in the market for a long-hood 911 and don’t know who Magnus is, you are in the minority for sure. I recommend you spend some time w/ Google and check out his amazing 1st gen 911 collection and perspective on these great cars. I can report he’s a standup guy and was very gracious with me and my family…I thought he would just spend a few minutes saying hello when we arrived at this place…instead he opened his home up for hours and gave us all a personal tour of the entire “Urban Outlaw” home & car collection. Needless to say I became more of a fan of his after this encounter. But, as mentioned, it ended with him requesting some time in my ’72 and let me tell you, Magnus doesn’t care what car he’s in, he takes them to redline and gets the lead out. It was an experience to ride with him to say the least. Shortly after that, I was driving the car to work, doing about 75mph on the freeway when I suddenly lost oil pressure and sucked up a main bearing before I could shut down the engine. Results were #5 connecting rod, piston & sleeve were broken and seized on the crankshaft. The good news was the block wasn’t ruined; the bad news was I needed a complete rebuild if I wanted to keep the #’s matching engine. My mechanic recommended if I wanted to save money to find a replacement motor, but seeing as I recently received the CofA proving it was indeed a #’s matching ’72 911, I couldn’t bring myself to swap engines. I guess it was a blessing in disguise as the more we broke down the engine, the more we found wrong with it (mismatched parts, wrong clearances, etc). The broker I purchased from informed me the engine was recently rebuilt (claimed it took place in 2010), but he didn’t have any proof on dates completed or receipts showing the scope of work, so I knew the claim that it was a recent rebuild (or a quality job) was probably less than accurate. Therefore, I can’t say I was terribly surprised when the engine let loose. Obviously ANYONE looking to invest this type of money should see receipts of claimed work & parts…I knew I was taking a gamble from a mechanical standpoint. But seeing as the vehicle was so straight and rust free, I figured it was worth the gamble as I knew at a minimum I wouldn’t have body, frame or metal fab to contend with. But sure enough, the mechanical gamble didn’t pay off. My pain is going to be the new owner’s good fortune. So the engine rebuild began and I gave my engine builder strict orders that I wanted the engine to be built with 100% authentic parts (I didn’t want any of those cheap south American or aftermarket Japan parts that are popping up more & more these days). Essentially, EVERYTHING on the engine was either replaced with new or quality used OEM parts or machined to spec (or better than stock). We upgraded sleeve set to OEM genuine Mahle S-spec, so compression was raised in the engine. As I said, the engine was literally finished at the end of April and I now have been driving it round-trip (approx. 80 miles) to work 4 days a week. My mechanic wants me to short shift at 3K rpm or below for the first 3,000 miles during engine break-in, so I’m about 1/3rd of the way through the break-in process. A top-line summary of the engine build is as follows: Complete breakdown & machining of blockMachined cylinder heads, cut valve seats and installed new guides & valvesSourced OEM crankshaft, crank bearing set / installed new main bearings & set Replaced intermediate shaft, gear & bearing set (OEM)Replaced connecting rods & all connecting rod bolts (OEM)Replaced oil pump (OEM)Reprofiled both camshafts and installed new camshaft drive gear (OEM)New set of rockers (OEM) and hand lapped all intake/exhaust valves and adjusted heightsFuel Injector Pump Rebuilt (prior to engine rebuild - $3K not included in the below total costs)New engine gasket set & sealing compound used throughoutBench tested distributor (checked out perfectly)Flushed oil tank and replaced lines (sludge discovered in tank/lines, sent tank out for flushing prior to lighting off engine for the 1st time).Serviced transmission & replaced oilInspected clutch (no need to replace as unit looked to be practically brand new) TOTAL ENGINE BUILD COSTS = $25,697.42 (finished 4/22/15) At the end of the rebuild, we installed a correct stock OEM muffler ($550 + $100 for OEM stainless straps) and obviously replaced all wires and plugs to ensure the engine was better than it left the factory. The new owner will have ZERO complaints about the mechanics of this 911 and I welcome ANY serious buyer to reach out to my mechanic and have him tell you all about the expertise and attention to detail that went into this build (only he can do it justice as I was lost on many points during my plethora of trips to see its progress). I regret not taking pictures of the process over the last year, but usually I was chasing one of my three sons, so couldn’t really get quality pictures as I listened to my mechanic bring me up to speed on the engines resurrection. Obviously the engine is now better than new and has absolutely ZERO leaks. Again, please contact me for his info (although you can probably figure it out from the shop’s website…I simply ask you only bother him with details/questions if you are a serious buyer and not your typical ‘internet tire kicker’). He’s a superb mechanic and an even better individual, but he’s obviously trying to earn a living and therefore I respectfully ask people respect his time and ONLY bother him with questions of this build if you seriously think this is the car for you. I obviously welcome buyers set up PPIs for this car as I know it will pass with flying colors. In summary, if you’re looking for a quality 1972 911 Coupe that is mechanically 100% sorted of “Big Ticket” repair liabilities, this is the car for you. Yes there are some minor interior corrections and the fiberglass bumpers are not perfect, but this car is a perfect candidate to do 1 of 3 things: 1) Keep as is, drive the heck out of it and don’t worry about changing a thing 2) Replace fiberglass bumpers & Recaro seats and take back to all stock 3) Continue w/ the fiberglass theme and transform it into a full-blown ‘Outlaw’ long-hood. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any direction. If you’ve been following the market, you’ll see it’s getting EXTREMELY difficult to find a #’s matching ’72 Coupe in this condition for under $100K…these cars popularity, seat-of-the-pants driving enjoyment via amazing feedback, and superb investment opportunity are making them hard to find at this price point. I have no doubt I’ll kick myself in the near future for selling this vehicle as I guarantee I won’t be able to replace it for anywhere close to my selling price a few years down the road. If you’re interested, please call me directly at 310.291.5377 to discuss. I REFUSE to answer a laundry list of question via email, so don’t even bother sending them to me…and all you SCAMMERS out there, please spare yourself & me the trouble of trying to contact me. I’ve sold enough classics over the years that I’ve seen every one of the current scams and I’m too busy and impatient to deal with you. If you’re a seriously interested party, by all means call me and we’ll talk about the car. But if you’re simply the typical “internet tire-kicker” let’s not play the games and talk when we both know you have no intention of buying (or the wife is never going to sign off on you buying this awesome classic…please seek permission to buy from The Boss BEFORE calling me). Also, since I’m downsizing my stable, please no offers for any kind of trades as I need to get rid of cars, not simple swap one for another. Asking $69,000, but open to reasonable offers. I will NEVER be insulted or get upset over an offer; I just can’t guarantee I won’t laugh. I have a clear CA title that I will sign my name to when I sell and leave the rest blank for the new owner to fill out as he/she sees fit (enough said :) ). I’m sure I’ve left out info, so please call me directly to ask questions. Good luck. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

A review of the new for 2006 BMW M5 at the time puts together the follwing assesment of the cars ability to produce supercar performance in a 4 door sedan package. How does the M5 do it? Horsepower: 507 to be exact, generated by a silky-smooth 5.0-liter V-10 that loves to rev (redline is 8200 rpm) and, when combined with BMWs third-generation 7-speed sequential M gearbox (SMG), serves up instant acceleration with the flick of a steering-wheel-mounted paddle. Yet like the V-8-powered car it replaces, this fourth-generation M5 effortlessly blends sports-car performance with commuter-car comfort. Naturally, as the only sedan on earth to feature a V-10 and a 7-speed sequential transmission, much attention focuses on the M5s high-tech powertrain. As well it should because they work exceedingly well together. The 90-degree V-10 is a clean-sheet design, engineered specifically for this car (and the M6) and not based on any existing BMW powerplant, including the BMW Formula 1 engine. Its also normally aspirated, unlike the competing Audi RS 6 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG powerplants, meaning it generates power through high engine rpm and its 10 cylinders rather than turbos or superchargers. Accomplishing such output without forced induction is no small feat, requiring some sophisticated engineering, especially in a V-10 that revs so freely. Like the M3, the M5s engine employs individual throttle valves for each of its 10 cylinders. Theyre tied to an electronically controlled throttle-by-wire system that ensures immediate response and adjusts each throttle butterfly individually in as little as 120 milliseconds. This works in concert with BMWs bi-VANOS variable valve timing for seamless power delivery anywhere in the rev range. To cope with the extreme heat and combustion pressure associated with high-rpm loads, the crankcase utilizes a racing-derived bedplate design that integrates cast-iron inserts into the aluminum casing for improved stiffness. Also helping produce those 507 horses and 384 lb.-ft. of torque is enough computing power to put an M5 on the moon. The ECU alone contains three 32-bit processors that perform a staggering 200 million calculations per second, controlling anything and everything related to engine performance. This includes, among other things, the throttle valves, bi-VANOS, fuel mixture, emissions and spark. Plus it acts as the central portal for all information traveling between the engine and smaller control units managing systems like SMG, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), ABS and Electronic Damper Control (EDC). An added benefit of all this computerized wizardry is the console-mounted Power button, which serves up three settings: P400 for just 400 bhp, P500 for the M5s full 507 bhp or P500 Sport for 507 bhp accompanied by noticeably quicker throttle response.
