This car is ready to enjoy, and has been in a collection of British sports cars since 2008, when purchased in California's dry central valley with approximately 50k miles. Just as happy at a show & shine, a curvy mountain road, or coastal road trip, this TR-6 awaits its next owner to enjoy, as it has been for the past several years. Pre-purchase inspections are welcome (by appointment). It is currently registered, with a clear CA title. Smog exempt in CA. Located in Visalia, CA approximately 1 hour south of Fresno, CA. FLY IN TO FRESNO AIRPORT & DRIVE IT HOME!Scroll down to links for several videos, and link to photobucket album with over 80 pictures, including underside of car. Additional pictures will be added to the photobucket album, if potential buyers request a specific view. Mechanical: This is a very well-maintained & upgraded 62k mile car. Under the hood you will find the original 2.5L 6 cylinder engine. Shortly after purchase (at approximately 50k miles), an Eaton model M62 roots type supercharger was installed, fed by a single 2” HD-8 SU carburetor (see link to YouTube video below). The supercharger provides 5-7 PSI boost, and completely transforms the driving experience. During the supercharger install, the cylinder head was rebuilt, ported & polished, and a “stage 1 supercharged” profile camshaft was installed. Factory ignition upgraded with a Pertronix kit. The exhaust now consists of a split exhaust header, feeding into dual exhaust with an “X” pipe & dual turbo mufflers, providing a very enjoyable soundtrack with the top down. In this configuration, the engine produces 143 HP at the rear wheels on a dyno (stock RWHP was 75 HP+/-). All factory engine components are available, and included if desired, if buyer wants to return engine to original. Transmission is the factory 4-speed (non-overdrive) unit. Clutch, shifter, and sychro’s all perform well—as they should given the low mileage and care the car has received. Rear end is the stock (non-limited slip) unit. Suspension has been upgraded with urethane bushings at all four corners. Ride height has been lowered approximately 1” with new, slightly stiffer springs. Matching the lowered stance are Koni front shocks & Armstrong rear shocks with stiffer valving. Rear trailing arms have had the correct camber set for the lowered stance. No “squat”, as is often the case with a lowered TR-6. Original wheels are wrapped in Michelin 205/70R-15 tires with excellent tread remaining, but are 7 years old. With the upgraded performance, handling & excellent driver feel, this TR-6 is truly a joy to drive with tight steering and good brakes. Exterior: Originally painted code #92 “Magenta”, it was repainted code #82 “Carmine Red” by previous owner. Jambs & trunk were also repainted in Carmine Red at that time, but the engine bay retains the factory finish as shown in pictures. While not a “show car”, the paint, trim, and chrome show very well and require no attention to show off & enjoy. Other than the typical battery tray replacement, there has been no rust repair performed, and none needed. No evidence of previous body damage or repair. This TR-6 is as dry underneath as you’ll find, and benefits from a garaged, central California existence. Weather stripping is in good condition, as is glass. In addition to the very nice, recent soft convertible top is a rare, factory steel hardtop (painted to match body). Hardtop is in nice shape overall, with a couple of scratches & a one crease (see pictures), but the headliner needs to be replaced. Hard top is a very hard item to locate. With the help of a friend, the TR-6 can easily be transformed into a sports coupe (please don’t ask me to sell top separately). Pictures show the hardtop just sitting on top of the TR-6, not fastened to the body. Interior: Inside, you are greeted by a very nice original (black) interior. Seats are in excellent condition, save for a small (repairable) tear on the bottom of driver’s seat. Very nice carpets, dash pad, etc. Rosewood dash is in beautiful shape, with fully functional factory instruments. Aftermarket “Moto-lite” steering wheel currently installed, but original is included with sale. Original (functional) British Leyland AM/FM stereo. All factory lights work properly. Trunk area is original, and in very nice condition. Matching Michelin 205/70R-15, a jack, a fitted car cover & a tool kit are included with sale. Overall: This is a very well cared for 1973 TR-6. It does have the usual "to do" list that really is not too long, Straight fast stopping, nice tight steering, It is mostly original except for the CDI unit shown, no tweakers have been at the wiring, Although I have removed some of the bullet connectors for blade connectors at front near horn and headlight and in the back for taillights, I did loose the highbeams the other night and have narrowed that down to connection at dip switch, I have been driving to my graveyard shift nightly for 8 months and it has never let me down, Charges good, gel battery, There is a tick in one of the lifters that goes away at speed. All smog equipment is as original ie Pump, Rail,carb valving and air intake.Has a glass pack and big resonator, Not too loud, a nice note to it.Speedo and ODOMETER NOT working and real mileage unknown, Tach good, Gas Guage Good,Oil Pressure stays high. Illuminated switches work, Heater and controls work, New window rail rubbers installed, All locks work with key, except glovebox.Trunk light works.Horn works. Needs a quality paint job,,Looks like the driver side floor replaced. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING! 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster VIN - 10867S107319 283/230 HP V8 Engine 4 Speed Transmission Manual Steering Manual Brakes Bucket Seats Wonder Bar Radio Hard Top Only I think this is a very nice original CA car that has been repainted once, had the original engine rebuilt and seats upholstered but is as original as possible in all the other areas. The owner of this car has owned it a little over 30 years and used it for weekend getaways to the coast and a few car shows so it wasn't run more than a couple thousand miles a year at best. About 10 years ago he entered it in the Concours here locally and it won 2nd place in it's class for correctness. You can buy a restored one but a car like this is the best car if you plan to actually drive it. The engine is a 283 with the engine codes F0315CQ, the car was built in April so it puts the engine in the "correct" time window. I only mention this because it doesn't have a VIN stamped on the block, this isn't the first time I've seen this so I did a little research and as I suspected March 15 was a Friday. The engine was rebuilt here in Fresno by Dave Hyatt, a very respected shop that those in the know here sought out to get the best work done. It had to be bored .030" over and they added hardened valve seats but everything else is correct to the factory specs. The clutch was replaced when they rebuilt it, pretty standard. The engine was rebuilt about 15 years ago and probably hasn't been run more than 2,000 miles since, he had a 93 roadster that they started driving more because it was more comfortable on the long drives. He brought it to my place for the pictures but he said it's been parked for about a year and needs to be driven so that's why he's selling it. All the detail items in the engine compartment are present and most have original date codes. The plug wire shield is in the trunk, he removed it because the throttle bracket was rubbing on it and he just hadn't gotten it back on. The tach cable is disconnected because the cable was making a little noise, it was working but he didn't want the sender to go out. The interior looks great for original, other than the seats being rebuilt that is. The Wonder Bar radio is present but I believe he said it's not working, the clock is definitely not working. All the gauges (the tach works) are in good working condition. The odometer shows 58,xxx and it's unsure if it's original, he knows he didn't put 100K on it but know one knows for sure. The headliner for the hard top is in great shape as are the door panels. There is a little wear showing on the drivers side carpet but not worth replacing it. There are some scuffs on the entry sills by the seats that is common. It has the accessory seat belts and they are in good condition. The exterior of the car was repainted the original Roman red with white coves, the Black Book says only 984 were that combination. Of course there were 2 different interior color options so how many were built with red interior? A guy could go crazy trying to extrapolate the production numbers by the options but we do know this is one of the best looking combinations and that's all I have to say on that. When the car was repainted, they replaced the right rear quarter panel because it had some damage improperly repaired with bondo from the 70's. The quarter panel replacement and paint work was done at Bill Verboon's shop so it couldn't have been done better. It appeared to have been repainted in an original style single stage finish. There were no other damage anywhere on the body that was discovered at the time but there is a few small chips and scratches from normal use currently. The top is in great shape with the plexi-glass all clear. It could use door glass seals and possibly a header seal but who's going to drive it in the rain? The chassis is as clean as you can find, I don't have a doubt the car that was only driven in CA on nice days or it's possible it only has 58K miles on it. There is no rust issues and you'll be hard pressed to find surface rust anywhere. You won't find a better original underside is the long and short. I think your looking at an honest car that you can enjoy for many years to come, if you want to drive it now and restore later it you won't have to go on an endless parts hunt to bring it to NCRS standards, if that's your goal. I know you could find a soft top if you want, figure another $5K for a frame, restoration and top vinyl if you have to have it. This car was one of the 2,285 that got the N/C hard top in lieu of not getting a soft top, for the numbers guys. Sell the hard top to recoup that cost of you want, I sold one for a guy here a couple of years ago for $4K. If there is a tank sticker, it will still be there as the tank has never been out. I think I've described the car as I saw it and gave you the information so you can make an informed decision but if I missed something that you still need to know just let me know and I will be happy to find out. Seats show very little wear as do the carpets with the original floor mats still in the car. The paint definitely shows its age and looks much better in the pictures. There are some scratches and and spidering in the paint which is expected in 46 year old car. Interior still presents very well with no rips or tears. The car was recently judged for the first time at the NCRS Spring Judging Meet in Fresno on April 25th/26th and received NCRS Second Flight Award and is only .5 points away from Top Flight Status. It received 93.5 and 94 is Top Flight. Only a few minor corrections and will be a Top Flight Award winner. If the the correct battery or master cylinder is installed it will acheive Top Flight Status. It is also an ideal canidate for the Bowtie Award as a survivor from NCRS. This is such a car. This time capsule was purchased new at Don Steves Chevrolet in La Hambra California in August of 1968. There is quite a story to the car and I will be more than happy to explain it to you if you would like to call to discuss. Original owner had the car close to 40 years until sold in 2010 to the second owner. Finished in it's original British Green paint with it's originalStandard Black Vinyl Interior. Suffix HO 327/300hp mated to a Turbo Hydramatic transmission. Highly equipped from the factory with Power brakes, AM/FM Radio, Power Windows, Air Conditioning, Tinted Glass, Red Stripe Tires and Power Steering. An original 28,000 mile car from new. We have the original Window Sticker, Protecto Plate, Handwritten Report of Sale, New Vehicle Inspection Report, Original tags from the Wheel Ring Instruction to the FM Radio, Registrations back to new, Original Owners Manual and the original California Black Plates. We also have the original T-Top Bags, Original Date Coded Jack, and Original Trim Rings.All interior Fiber Optics function properly. Seats show very little wear as do the carpets with the original floor mats still in the car. The paint definitely shows its age and looks much better in the pictures. The car was recently judged for the first time at the NCRS Spring Judging Meet in Fresno on April 25th/26th and received NCRS Second Flight Award and is only .5 points away from Top Flight Status. It received 93.5 and 94 is Top Flight. Only a few minor corrections and will be a Top Flight Award winner.
