The company released two models, the Streamliner and the Chieftain, and both shared the same 120" wheelbase. The standard engine was the 239 CID six cylinder motor, but the cream of the crop was the buttery smooth straight 8 engine, dubbed the "Silver Streak." Both 3 speed automatic and manual transmissions could be had and the cars were available in the coupe, sedan and four door.  This 1949 Pontiac Chieftain is a largely original survivor car that has only had two owners in its entire existence. The car has an older paint job with a lovely patina. This Chieftain has the Deluxe trim option as evidenced by the longer side spear and extra chrome body trim. The body is rust free and straight with excellent panel gaps. The interior is largely original sans some new seat upholstery and has been wonderfully kept. All of the instruments are in proper working order as are the signals, and lights.  The car is mechanically right and has been cared for as needed. The 8-cylinder motor is so smooth, you often forget it is running and the car drives out perfectly on the open road. The steering and brakes are spot on for the era, and the car could take long cruises with ease. AMC also improved manufacturing efficiency and lowered costs by incorporating shared components such as engines. Reducing noise, vibration, and harshness improved the Wagoneer driving experience.Starting in the 1986 model year, the Grand Wagoneer received a new four part front grille and a stand-up hood ornament. However, the most significant change was the installation of a fully revamped interior. Changes were made to the instrument panel that now featured square gauges, wood grain overlays and contained an improved climate control system. The Select-Trac driveline gained a new Trac-Lok limited slip differential to send power to the wheel with the best traction. The chrome is in good shape and only shows minor imperfections around the center of the grill. All the glass is in great condition with no cracks.The interior looks great. The seats are wrapped in saddle leather with cloth inserts. The driver’s seat does show wear to the seat cushion and bolster. All other seats look excellent with no major wear to be found. The driver’s seat is power and works with no problems. The windows, locks, mirrors, steering and brakes are all power as well. It is factory equipped with A/C and it blows cold. The original gauges are also in working order and look great.The legendary 5.9L, 360ci V8 runs great with no problems. The motor is nicely detailed and looks to be in original condition. With a turn of the key the truck starts right up with no hesitation. Mated to the engine is an automatic transmission. On the road, the ride is nice and smooth. It should be noted that the transfer case was replaced in 2007 and the four wheel drive is functional!
