This car represents the last, and best, of the breed. Among those, it is the finest example we have seen. This 1996 Impala SS has only 7,319 miles on it. That’s right. Just over seven-thousand three hundred miles. This two-owner car has been in the possession of the last owner for over 15 years, and he has kept it in climate controlled storage the entire time. It shows. Just look at it. Anyone who knows these cars can see that this car has all the markings of a true survivor. The original BF Goodrich tires are still present, as are the original deCarbon shock absorbers. Even the underhood light still functions – a rarity. The first base air intake, however, has been replaced with an Airaid unit, and the mufflers have been replaced with Flowmaster units. Aside from those two very easily rectified modifications, this car is 100% original. Under the hood is a Corvette-derived LT1 V8 that produces 260 horsepower and 330 lb.-ft. of torque. The 1996-only floor shifter on the interior controls the 4L60E automatic transmission, and together, they drive the rear wheels through a set of 3.08 gears and a factory limited-slip differential. These cars, with their front and rear sway bars, big 17 inch wheels and 255/50 tires, were meant to be luxury performance machines, and they were. Still today, these cars enjoy a huge following. The gray leather bucket seats (both of which are power), were derived from Buick Roadmaster seats, but are Impala SS exclusives. They are comfortable, sporty, luxurious, and supportive – exactly what you need in a car like this. Well, we’ve found your car! Take a look at this Camaro. The silver paint finish stands out and shines brightly in the sun. The black stripes on the hood and trunk lid set it off perfectly. However, looking closely at the stripes reveals awesome ghost flames on the hood. The paintwork on this car is top notch. The 18 inch Foose wheels give it an aggressive stance and a modern look. Under the hood is a 327 cubic inch V8, just like the fender badges indicate. However, it’s not quite stock. The engine has been rebuilt with performance in mind, with a .040 overbore, a Quick Fuel carburetor atop an Edelbrock performer RPM intake manifold, a performance camshaft, and a set of aluminum pro comp heads. Inside, there are forged pistons, and ignition comes from a new MSD Pro Billet unit and a 6AL ignition box. In other words: this car can scoot. It breathes through a set of Hedman long tube headers that continue on to a set of Flowmaster mufflers. Watch the video and listen to that exhaust note. It’s sweet. All that power makes it to the ground through a TH350 automatic transmission and a 3.55 Eaton locking rear differential. New springs, A-arms, and an SSBC 4-wheel disc brake kit ensure that this car handles and stops as well as it goes, too. It’s the perfect package. On the inside, the interior is all original just as it left the factory in 1967 with the exception of a few minor upgrades. For one, the transmission is now controlled by a B&M ratchet shifter mounted on the floor. There are also gauges to help monitor the engine’s vital signs, including a tachometer. Other than that, this car’s red interior is straight out of 1967 – nice and preserved, thanks to the window tint and the fact that its previous owner cared for it greatly. With less than 4,000 miles put on the car since its engine and suspension rebuild, this Camaro is nice and tight.
