SFM6S588 was delivered to a Hertz rental agency in Phoenix, AZ in December of 1966. A full Concours restoration was completed in Fall of 2015, bringing the car back to its “as factory delivered” form.? The car still retains the original T-10 4-speed it was born with along with a date code correct service replacement HiPo 289 installed by its first owner. After its "Rent-A-Racer" duties were complete, it was sold in May of 1967 to Gary Ray, who fitted it with a Shelby/Paxton Supercharger and Detroit Locker rear-end and then went racing! Personalization of these cars was the order of the day, as commanded by Carroll Shelby himself “We built these cars to drive the "HELL" out of them, not to be museum pieces!"In April of 1974 Mr. Ray put the car up for sale in AutoWeek advertising that the car featured a new, date-code correct K Code HiPo 289 installed and 47,000 miles on the odometer. The reason? He bought himself a ’66 289 Cobra! The Hertz car passed through the hands of Dean Watts of Pleasanton, CA. From there, it traveled to the Pacific Northwest to Roger Winslow of Tacoma, WA and out of the public consciousness. It was discovered “barn fresh” around 2012 in Yakima, Washington hibernating under a tarp with just under 47,800 miles on the odometer, not registered since 1983. So, since 1974 it has been sitting with a mere 800 miles traveled from the time Mr. Ray sold it. Of the 1,001 Hertz cars produced in 1966, only 85 were fitted with a manual transmission. It is rare to find a GT350H factory equipped a 4 speed, let alone the original aluminum case T-10. 1965 High Performance Barracuda For Sale in Clarkston, Washington 99403 Look out classic car enthusiasts! This 1965 Plymouth Performance A Group Barracuda is a rare find that comes dressed to impress! This two-door pony car features beautiful white paint that is complimented by a clean, tan colored interior. This show car is sure to turn heads, however it has been fully restored with highway performance in mind. This Barracuda has 86,000 original miles including 13,000 miles since the restoration. Generally Barracudas of this model year came with either a slant 6 engine, 180 hp 273 cubic inch V8, or the Formula S with the high performance 235 hp 273 V8, heavy duty suspension, larger 14 inch wheels, and a tachometer. Like the Formula S, the Performance A Group had the high performance engine and heavy duty suspension, but lacked the larger wheels and tachometer. The V8 Commando badge shown in pictures is unique to this car. This Plymouth Barracuda appears to be original, however looks can be deceiving. The engine was replaced with a custom balanced 324 cubic inch Mopar mill. The 273's closed chamber heads, manifold, rocker arms and carburetor were retained. Pistons and cam was supplied by Hughes Engine and it has a compression of 9.6 to 1, with a forged crank from a 1967 Fury. Also installed were new ball joints, tie rods, KYB shocks and polygraphite bushings. The original .86 inch diameter front anti-sway bar was replaced with one that is one inch diameter, and .75 inch diameter was installed in the rear. It also has a 2 ¾ inch single exhaust with an Accelerator muffler. A custom rectangular stainless steel resonator was built patterned after the original. The stock 13 inch by 4.5 inch wheels were replaced with 14 inch by 8 inch Modern wheels, mated to radial 205-60 H rated tires. Additionally, the manual 24 to 1 ratio steering gear was modified to a 16 to 1 ratio. This 1965 Plymouth Performance A Group Barracuda is a true master piece of automotive ingenuity. All of it's mechanical upgrades and fine tuning allow this car to corner like it's on a rail and provide a really nice sound.
