This Corvette is a True Survivor and should readily surpass Bloomington Gold standards for their Gold Survivor Award. Likewise it will be an excellent candidate for NCRS awards. Real 6-speed cars in this fantastic condition are very hard to come by as only approximately 24% of the production were 6-speeds. All systems in the car, including the fantastic air conditioning, work very well. There is minor normal wear on the driver seat outer bolster. I would not hesitate to drive this car extensively. Classic white never looks wrong on a Corvette, and while this one shows a few signs of age, overall it presents quite well. Fit and finish are about what you got in 1982, which was the end of the line for the dramatic Stingray. There are very few signs of age, no stress cracks, and even the bright white paint, which is a few years old, looks great. The headlight doors fit flush, the doors open and close with that distinctive Corvette "thunk" and there's no denying the universal appeal of a car like this. Up close you might note that even the chin spoiler hasn't been beaten to death on steep driveway aprons, and all the emblems are intact, including the subtle pinstripes on the "Coke bottle" fenders and "corvette" lettering (lower case, of course, this was 1982 after all) on the tail. Detailing is crisp and it wouldn't take much to push this one to the next level, maybe a professional cut and buff to really make it dazzling. But even as-is, it's pretty danged nice. Code 132 gray leather works well with the bright white bodywork, creating a classic combination that will never go out of fashion. More amazingly, the seating surfaces are very well preserved, with hardly any evidence that this car is now 30 years old. The driver's seat shows some signs of age, but nothing that's out of line for being more than 30 years old, and the leather itself is supple and doesn't show many "comfort marks" let alone genuine wear. Those space-age-looking buckets are every bit as comfortable as they look, and the carpets aren't going to betray their age, either. The original L48 Crossfire injection V8 is gone, replaced by a stout 350 cubic inch GM ZZ4 crate engine that was installed about 1000 miles ago. Featuring upgrades like a performance intake manifold and carburetor, electronic ignition system, and a set of shorty headers, it's considerably stronger than the wheezy smog-choked 350 it replaces. It's also quite nicely details, offering a chrome air cleaner and valve covers, a big electric fan, and new components throughout. The chassis is original but it shows no signs of winter weather and all the components intact and functional, including a catalytic converter, so this 'Vette is 50-state friendly. Even the original aluminum wheels remain unblemished with a nice shine to the aluminum, and wear staggered 255/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A white-letter radials. The standard Corvette coupe has a removable roof panel (a.k.a. "targa") that allows nearly the same open-air experience as a true convertible, whereas the Corvette Z06 coupe's roof looks the same but is fixed in place. The convertible is for roadster purists, and its top, as tradition dictates, hides under a flip-open panel that lies flush with the body. The coupe and convertible come well-equipped with features such as xenon headlamps, keyless entry and startup, a tire-pressure monitor, leather seating, a six-way power driver seat and dual-zone automatic climate control. It was the final year for the mighty 454 and the beginning of the plastic bumper cars, with the chrome rear bumpers finally being eliminated. Powerful, fun, and relatively inexpensive, the '74s are perhaps the biggest bang for your buck in the Corvette hobby and are your invitation to some of the best car events around. Black always looks good on a Corvette, emphasizing the long, low profile and dramatic curves of the "Coke bottle" fenders. Refinished in 1990, this is the car's original color and overall it's a clean driver that can be used without worries and still gets appreciative looks at the local cruise night, and it looks far better than it has any right to after all these years. The fiberglass is in good condition and shows few signs of age, and no issues in the typical trouble spots around the headlight doors and rear C-pillars. There's a pinstripe highlighting each fender, arguably the C3's most distinctive feature, and it has the effect of giving this one an upscale look. This one also features body-colored T-tops, which many enthusiasts prefer, and the only giveaway to the performance under the hood is a small 454 badge on the sides of the hood dome. Make no mistake, this is a potent car, even today. Inside, that's unusual code 407 silver leather interior in impressive condition. The seats are supple and comfortable, and show very little wear and definitely no rips or tears in the leather. The interior was completely removed and it was lined with sound deadener material, so it's quiet and cool inside and then new carpets and door panels were installed to make it look crisp. You'll also note that this car offers such options as a tilt/telescope steering column and the original AM/FM stereo radio remains in the dash and still pulls in stations loud and clear. For a true open air experience, pull the T-tops off and enjoy the Corvette as it was meant to be enjoyed and the car comes with a never-used Eckler's T-top suitcase for protection. You'll have a hard time wiping the grin off your face once you get a taste of the big block's 395 pounds of torque. The quick-witted TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is the perfect companion, with gear ratios that make the most of the LS4's wide torque curve. Sometime in the 1980s, the original 3.08 gear was replaced with a 3.70 out back and that means this sucker leaps off the line. Obviously detailed several years ago, the engine bay shows well with Chevy Orange paint on the engine block, a chrome open-element air cleaner, and Holley finned valve covers to add a little under-hood flash. Power steering and power disc brakes were popular options and operate as they should. Underneath, there are long-tube headers and a new exhaust system, rebuilt brakes, and fresh shocks installed just this year. It's ready to go, wearing a fresh set of 225/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials on classic Cragar wheels.
