But this exclusive, national award-winning Chevy is just that, and, throughout 56 years of immaculate upkeep, heavy servicing has been its sole alteration. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind, virtually unmolested collector car, here's your chance to head the herd! HISTORY/PRESERVATION Introduced as Chevrolet's first foray upmarket, the Impala proved GM's volume car juggernaut had the strength to be all things to all people. It was the ride your upper class neighbors enjoyed and, like the original Bel Air, it wholly embodied the time of its creation. With that in mind, this awesome, second generation drop-top was immediately snatched up by its first owner in late 1958. That owner, Foster Harris of Dayton, Ohio, purchased the car from Williamstown, Kentucky's Piles Chevrolet as a gift for his wife. Unfortunately Mr. Harris' wife was more interested in birds than antelopes and, after 3K miles of use, the Impala was traded on a brand new Thunderbird. That's when the Chevy's second and long-term owner, Francis Mendenhall, entered the picture. Mr. Mendenhall and his wife fell in love with the car, mainly using it as a grand Sunday cruiser that provided their family years of great memories. As those years passed, the Mendenhall's daughter, Joyce, formed quite a bond with the low-mileage Chevy and would eventually use it to complete her driving test. When the time came for Joyce to head to college, the Impala returned to its plaster garage where her dad promised to store and maintain it until further notice. After college, Joyce married a future GM manager who was a hardcore Chevy fan and long-term Bel Air owner. And, in 1984, Joyce's father called to say: "it's time for you to pick up your Impala." Ecstatic, she relocated the car to her new home and started hitting the national show circuit where, as you might imagine, the all-original, 21K mile drop-top was a big hit. In 2006, after roughly half a century in the same family, Joyce and her husband finally passed the car to its third and present owner: a retired neighbor who also purchased their beloved Bel Air. That owner, looking to keep things fresh, commissioned a heavy engine servicing that included new seals, new freeze plugs and fresh block paint. And today, the car rolls as a fully documented national award winner that's seen only 28,910 miles of road time in the hands of three dedicated owners. ENGINE Lift this Chevy's long hood and you'll find an original, 348 cubic inch Turbo Thrust V8 that's branded with a correct 3755011 casting number, stated with a September (I) 19th (19), 1958 (58) casting date and detailed with a correct "G" suffix stamp. A staple of working-class luxury, this sturdy 250 horsepower big block is one of the many reasons the Impala model enjoys fantastic name recognition. And absolutely every item, from its thick coat of Chevy Orange paint to its unique, bowtie-branded valve covers, is functional, reliable and ready to hit the cruise-in. At the top of the bright block, a Satin Black, single-snorkel air cleaner funnels wind in to a big Rochester carburetor. At the sides of the block, clean exhaust manifolds allow oversquare cylinders ample breathing room by pushing spent gases through correct, true-dual pipes. At the back of the block, a traditional points distributor sparks familiar Packard TV R Suppression cables. Cooling is provided by a beefy Harrison radiator, which circulates water through a series of pliable hoses. Charge comes courtesy of a Delco yellow cap battery, which jolts a tagged Delco-Remy generator. All the right details, including a stainless fuel line, correct decals and a factory brake booster, are present and accounted for. And the car's Satin Black engine bay serves as an ideal backdrop for the engine's many different textures. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this topless full-size on a lift and you'll find a solid undercarriage that, despite the car's Midwest roots, appears to have never seen seriously inclement weather. Straight, undercoated floorpans perfectly complement a sturdy, Satin Black X-frame. A rugged Powerglide transmission, which hangs a correct 3742349 casting number above an October (J) 31st (31) 1958 (8) casting date, spins a beefy GM drop-out that literally sails the engine through its power band. Under that capable drivetrain, a lucid suspension mixes factory power steering with big, power-assisted drums. At the center of the floors, a true-dual exhaust system utilizes correct turbo mufflers to weave an aggressive, full-throttle rumble into a subdued and classy idle. And at the corners of the chassis, great looking 8.00-14 BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls frame dent-free hubcaps. INTERIOR For GM products of the 1950s, interiors are always a highlight. Naturally, this Impala continues that trend with an eye-popping tri-tone Green interior that presents very well. At ground level, Fisher sill plates anchor old school carpet under thick, color-keyed floor mats. Adjustable bench seats wear retro plaid covers that remind us of family picnics. The padded and stainless-trimmed dash plays host to factory instrumentation, a correct radio and chrome accessory pulls. In front of the driver, a traditional Impala steering wheel spins speed-drilled spokes around a storied cross-flag emblem. At the sides of the car, expressive door panels found simple exit handles between jet-age armrests and traditional window cranks. And behind the passengers, a cavernous trunk hides a correct jack and full-size spare tire between pliable mats and a vintage decklid decal. Straight off the showroom floor Corvettes are special cars. That's because Team Corvette has always been really good at nailing ALL the fundamentals of creating excellent performance. And that basic competence translates even to the world of classics, where all kinds of enthusiasts aspire to four generations of 2-door, small block V8 goodness like moths to a flame. The hottest part of that flame is Chevy's hallowed C2, and this 1966 Sting Ray, in many ways, represents the very best of the investment grade C2 market. Even before its frame-off restoration, this roadster was an incredibly well maintained example of vintage American muscle. And today, it's a national award winning showstopper that's referenced in a well-known restoration guide. If you're looking for an enjoyable collector car that's poised to appreciate in value, this Vette is the perfect choice! BODYWORK/TRIM Bolted together at GM's storied St. Louis manufacturing facility, and delivered to Bob Gabriel Chevrolet of Cortez, Colorado, this slick C2 is the kind of classic that you can look at and virtually sense top-notch caretaking. In early 2013, the car was completely restored to better-than-factory standards by a very passionate enthusiast. That ground-up reboot began with solid, original fiberglass being lovingly sanded and gratuitously sprayed with a correct coat of GM code 976 Nassau Blue 2-stage. With that pigment applied, the car's doors and lids were carefully adjusted to ensure excellent fit and finish. And vibrant factory trim was applied under a fresh white top to ardently accentuate Bill Mitchell's razor-sharp style lines. Officially, this sweet roadster is so well done that it's referenced in Noland Adams' published restoration guide. That being said, the car is neither unnaturally straight nor overtly glossy. And overall, its finished body presents as a vintage Corvette should present well composed without being too perfect to drive. ENGINE During that detailed restoration, this Chevy's original, 427 cubic inch big block was fully rebuilt by the pros at Performance Clinic The Engine Company of Dayton, Ohio. And not only does the big mill carry a correct 3869942 casting number, a correct "IP" suffix stamp and a matching partial VIN, it also creates 508 dyno-proven horsepower! Top dead center, you'll find a polished and decaled air cleaner that, along with bright stainless fluid lines, feeds a correct Holley 4-barrel. Under that 4-barrel, a familiar Winters intake sits on a spotless Chevy Orange block that's fitted with a Comp solid lifter, flat tappet cam. At the sides of that block, a pair of fully restored exhaust manifolds, which ride below a pair of correct oval-port heads, nicely contrast a pair of stamped and painted valve covers. At the back of those valve covers, chrome-capped ignition makes good use of sleeved plug wires. Cooling is provided by a correct radiator, which routes fluid past a correct alternator and factory power steering via reproduction GM hoses and a correct array of clamps. And details like a correct brake booster, a reproduction Delco battery and a Delco-Remy voltage regulator make sure this Sting Ray performs just as good as it looks. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Flip this big block Vette upside down and you'll find a fully restored chassis that's in good shape, and today, looks much as it did when it rolled out of the factory. At the center of that chassis, an original Muncie M21 4-speed, which was professionally rebuilt by Ed Hartnett 4 Speed of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, hangs a correct 3885010 casting number in front of a Muncie (P) 4-speed assembled on April (04) 14th (14) 1966 build stamp. When engaged, that transmission utilizes a date-correct rear end, a posi-traction differential and big, 3.70 gears to deliver the neck snapping launches and potent acceleration Duntov Corvettes are famous for. At the ends of the car, a fully restored double A-arm front and independent rear suspension is completely detailed, from its factory power steering all the way to its transverse rear spring. At the corners of the car, power-assisted disc brakes mix excellent handling with quick stops. Above those mechanicals, clean and exceptionally solid floor tubs, which look factory fresh in every way, are bolted to a straight, Satin Black frame. Exhaust rumbles through 2.5-inch, aluminized pipes to rear-mounted mufflers and polished stainless tips. Power meets the ground through standard steel wheels, which spin a fresh set of 7.75-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls around mirrored stainless covers. And everything, from this Corvette's leak-free fuel tank to its Chevy Orange oil pan, is fully sorted and ready to hit the show field. INTERIOR Swing this Sting Ray's light, fiberglass doors and you'll find a sea of correct Bright Blue vinyl. The car's cushy and pliable seats have attended just enough show parades to keep both their comfort and composure. Its like-new carpet, which is protected by clear plastic mats, still features clean blue shading. At the front of the cockpit, stylish, aircraft-inspired telemetry joins brushed metal accents to decorate Chevy's familiar dual-cowl dash. At the center of that dash, a waterfall center stack hangs a continuous motion clock and correct Delco AM/FM radio above a chrome, fully functional shifter. Opposite that waterfall, blue, stainless-trimmed panels anchor chrome door and window hardware above perfectly placed armrests. In front of the driver, a classy Teak steering wheel spins satin-finished spokes around a pristine cross-flag horn button. And behind the seats, a fully carpeted storage compartment displays virtually no signs of use. HISTORICAL INFORMATION A simple breakdown of this Chevy's VIN and trim tag verifies the authenticity of its current restoration: VIN: 194676SXXXXXX 1 - Chevrolet9 - Corvette4 - V867 - Convertible6 - 1966 model yearS - Assembled at GM's St. Louis manufacturing facilityXXXXXX - Production sequence number TRIM TAG:I20 - Assembled on April 20th, 196666 - 1966 model year467 - ConvertibleA - Manufactured at A. In 2010, with the introduction of Chevrolet's fifth generation pony car, the value of first generation Camaros started trending upward. And, this year, with the reintroduction of the brutal Z/28, the value of vintage Zs is set to increase accordingly. Rocking awesome Corvette Bronze paint, a complete restoration and a numbers-matching drivetrain, this fully documented coupe is the quintessential blue chip muscle car. If you're looking to grab a pristine, investment grade F1 before the market ticks up, check out your next classic! In addition to historic dealer paperwork and a stack of vintage maintenance receipts, the sale of this striped and sealed beauty includes an original Protect-O-Plate. Here's a look at how the car rolled into Ray Bryant Chevrolet's Dayton, Ohio showroom: VIN: 124378N4244021 - Chevrolet2 - Camaro4 V8 engine / Standard interior37 - Sport coupe8 - 1968 model yearN - Assembled at GM's Norwood, Ohio manufacturing facility424402 - Sequential production number COWL TAG:04D Assembled during the fourth week (D) of April (04), 196868 1968 model year12437 V8-powered (4) Chevrolet (1) Camaro (2) sport coupe (37)NOR Assembled at GM's Norwood, Ohio manufacturing facility124422 Fisher Body number712 Standard, Black interior that's fitted with bucket seatsOO Corvette Bronze paint PROTECT-O-PLATE:E Black interior paintOO Corvette Bronze exterior paint124378N424402 - The car's VINH - Equipped with a Holley carburetorV0314MO - The car's engine assembly code, which translates as a Z/28-spec, 4-speed-exclusive 302 (MO) that was assembled in Flint, Michigan (V) on March (03) 14th (14), 1968BU0424G - The car's axle assembly code, which translates as a 3.73-equipped unit (BU) that was assembled in Detroit, Michigan (G) on April (04) 24th (24), 19684 The car's month of assemblyP8C12 - The car's transmission assembly code, which translates as a Muncie 4-speed (P) assembled on March (C ) 12th (12), 1968 (8)2 Option J50 power-assisted brakes3 Option U63 pushbutton AM radio that's complete with a power antenna3 - Optional J52 disc brakes Logging only weekend miles since its detailed, frame-off restoration, this bold panther displays excellent bodywork that simply glistens under our bright showroom lights. A lot of effort was put into making sure the car's body is extremely straight, which resulted in Kansas-flat sheetmetal that's completely wave-free. That time was well spent, as excellent panel gaps perfectly center hinged pieces which move freely and close with solidity. And those pieces are bathed in slick Corvette Bronze and Tuxedo Black two-stage that's been buffed to a spectacular shine. When it comes to purity of form, I can't really think of a better looking car than Chevrolet's 60s-era Camaro. It's a solid and straightforward design that continues to age exceptionally well, especially in the company of its exaggerated and extroverted competitors. At the front of this super cool F1, a pristine Rally Sport grille centers a stacked "RS" badge and bright halogen headlights between a spotless bumper, clear parking lamps and a small header script. At the top of that grille, a flat hood reflects a sweet combination of like-new glass, satin-finished wipers and mirrored stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, a monochromatic profile hangs prominent "Z/28" emblems and blocky "rally sport" scripts between familiar door handles, RS rocker paint and a correct chrome mirror. And at the back of the car, an option D80 decklid and second spotless bumper frame small reverse lamps, '68 Camaro-exclusive tail lights, and an "RS" branded fuel filler. Under this Chevy's Kansas-flat hood you'll find an original 3914678-branded 302 that was cast on March (C ) 11th (11), 1968 (8), assembled in Flint, Michigan (V) on March (03) 14th (14), 1968 and stamped with a correct 424402 partial VIN. Straight from the factory, Chevrolet's high performance SCCA Mustang slayer utilizes high flow, rectangular port heads, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods and forged aluminum pistons to twist stout 11 to 1 compression into more than 350 horsepower! At the top of the red hot small block, a chrome, open element air cleaner swirls wind into a familiar Winter intake via correct Holley carburetion. At the sides of that intake, authentic 'double hump' heads hang bright chrome valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds. And at the back of those heads, a mandatory points distributor shoots spark through correct Packard TV R Suppression cables. When fired, the infamous V8 snarls and barks like a real competition piece. Its ancillary components are top-notch in every way, with fresh GM hoses, a correct brake booster and a reproduction Delco battery accompanying rare, factory-correct smog equipment. And an even combination of Chevy Orange engine skin and Satin Black fender framing is accented by clean and appropriate decals. Back in 1968, the best transmission you could get with your Camaro was a tough Muncie 4-speed. This coupe's original gear slinger, which hangs a Muncie 4-speed (P) assembled on March (C ) 12th (12), 1968 (8) assembly stamp in front of a correct 424402 partial VIN, spins a stout 12-bolt rear end around big, 4.10 gears. That first-rate drivetrain is held off the ground by a completely rebuilt, high performance suspension, which includes 4-piston, Corvette-style brakes, tuned front coils, multi-leaf rears and reproduction shocks. That suspension is dissected by a correct, wrinkle-bent exhaust system. That exhaust system is framed by clean floors and fresh overspray, which perfectly highlight a new stainless fuel tank, fresh stainless lines and a variety of chassis components that still wave vivid paper tags. Those floors roll on 15-inch Rally wheels, which spin E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs around correct stainless center caps and dent-free trim rings. And while this Rally Sport has, to our knowledge, never been shown, it would certainly fare well hovering over a quartet of undercarriage mirrors. The Standard Black interior hiding behind this car's small bronze doors illustrates the true, no frills intentions of Chevrolet's hallowed Z/28. Its bucket seats were restored with new backs, new foam and reproduction covers that look and feel fantastic. In front of those seats a wood-lined dash, which exhibits no signs of warping or peeling, hangs rebuilt telemetry above a vintage Delco radio. At the base of that dash, great looking carpet centers a chrome Hurst shifter between four color-keyed floor mats. That seat, dash and flooring trifecta is framed by a tight headliner and standard, stainless-trimmed door panels. In front of the driver, Chevrolet's classy Rosewood steering wheel spins satin spokes around a red, white and blue centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's solid trunk has been correctly restored with new paint, a full-size spare and fresh decklid decals.
