2004 Chevrolet Express 12 Passenger Van CNG Bi-Fuel, ~39,100 miles(vehicle currently being test driven by prospective buyers so final mileage may vary) This is a rare bi-fuel CNG powered Chevrolet Express 12 Passenger Van with an EPA certified factory conversion. The 2004 model has a fuel-injected CNG system that is far superior to the low-tech air intake systems used prior to 2004. This results in much higher fuel efficiency, better power, lower emissions, and far more precise and consistent computer control of the air-fuel mixture. This make this van much more desirable and expensive than the older design and much cleaner and better for the environment. The interior seats can be removed for cargo only use. There are no power amenities. Door locks, windows, etc. are all manual. There is a very basic stereo and a few speaker housings which would allow an easy upgrade of the stereo. There is no trailer hitch though a NOS GM produced kit can be bought online (1 left) for about $224 plus shipping or a custom one can be easily fabricated for $200 or less. All defects are cosmetic. Please see condition details for description of defects. This van could be the lowest mileage van of its kind currently available nationally. Other vans with more miles are selling for more and one less expensive one has a cost difference of about 8.7 cents/mile based on the difference in cost and mileage which makes it very easy for most buyers to recoup their investment through natural gas savings alone assuming 15k+ miles/year. The tires have like new tread. An oil change was just performed by a Chevy dealer using Mobil One full synthetic and an extended life Bosch oil filter. All fluids, brakes, and tires have been checked by the dealer at the time of service. The CNG works as follows: 1) When the CNG tanks are full, the van will start and operate completely on CNG. 2) When the CNG tanks run low, the system automatically detects when you can no longer operate on CNG and switches to gas (assuming you have gas in the regular fuel tank). If you always keep the CNG full, then you generally do not have to run on gas. There is no manual override and the system is entirely automatic. The CNG range is about 150 miles highway and 100+ city and fuel economy on CNG probably ranges between 15-20 mpg highway though for CNG vehicles range is a more useful figure to estimate your costs. Here in Utah, at $1.759/gge and at about 7.5 gge per fill my estimate is that the van costs about 8.7 cents/mile to operate compared to 25-30 cents/mile for regular gas (gas prices are relatively low right now) giving you about 16 cents/mile in savings (based on Utah gas/CNG prices). Based on this savings, you could pay for the cost of this vehicle (not including tax) in fuel savings in 106,243 miles.
