GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING! 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster VIN - 10867S107319 283/230 HP V8 Engine 4 Speed Transmission Manual Steering Manual Brakes Bucket Seats Wonder Bar Radio Hard Top Only I think this is a very nice original CA car that has been repainted once, had the original engine rebuilt and seats upholstered but is as original as possible in all the other areas. The owner of this car has owned it a little over 30 years and used it for weekend getaways to the coast and a few car shows so it wasn't run more than a couple thousand miles a year at best. About 10 years ago he entered it in the Concours here locally and it won 2nd place in it's class for correctness. You can buy a restored one but a car like this is the best car if you plan to actually drive it. The engine is a 283 with the engine codes F0315CQ, the car was built in April so it puts the engine in the "correct" time window. I only mention this because it doesn't have a VIN stamped on the block, this isn't the first time I've seen this so I did a little research and as I suspected March 15 was a Friday. The engine was rebuilt here in Fresno by Dave Hyatt, a very respected shop that those in the know here sought out to get the best work done. It had to be bored .030" over and they added hardened valve seats but everything else is correct to the factory specs. The clutch was replaced when they rebuilt it, pretty standard. The engine was rebuilt about 15 years ago and probably hasn't been run more than 2,000 miles since, he had a 93 roadster that they started driving more because it was more comfortable on the long drives. He brought it to my place for the pictures but he said it's been parked for about a year and needs to be driven so that's why he's selling it. All the detail items in the engine compartment are present and most have original date codes. The plug wire shield is in the trunk, he removed it because the throttle bracket was rubbing on it and he just hadn't gotten it back on. The tach cable is disconnected because the cable was making a little noise, it was working but he didn't want the sender to go out. The interior looks great for original, other than the seats being rebuilt that is. The Wonder Bar radio is present but I believe he said it's not working, the clock is definitely not working. All the gauges (the tach works) are in good working condition. The odometer shows 58,xxx and it's unsure if it's original, he knows he didn't put 100K on it but know one knows for sure. The headliner for the hard top is in great shape as are the door panels. There is a little wear showing on the drivers side carpet but not worth replacing it. There are some scuffs on the entry sills by the seats that is common. It has the accessory seat belts and they are in good condition. The exterior of the car was repainted the original Roman red with white coves, the Black Book says only 984 were that combination. Of course there were 2 different interior color options so how many were built with red interior? A guy could go crazy trying to extrapolate the production numbers by the options but we do know this is one of the best looking combinations and that's all I have to say on that. When the car was repainted, they replaced the right rear quarter panel because it had some damage improperly repaired with bondo from the 70's. The quarter panel replacement and paint work was done at Bill Verboon's shop so it couldn't have been done better. It appeared to have been repainted in an original style single stage finish. There were no other damage anywhere on the body that was discovered at the time but there is a few small chips and scratches from normal use currently. The top is in great shape with the plexi-glass all clear. It could use door glass seals and possibly a header seal but who's going to drive it in the rain? The chassis is as clean as you can find, I don't have a doubt the car that was only driven in CA on nice days or it's possible it only has 58K miles on it. There is no rust issues and you'll be hard pressed to find surface rust anywhere. You won't find a better original underside is the long and short. I think your looking at an honest car that you can enjoy for many years to come, if you want to drive it now and restore later it you won't have to go on an endless parts hunt to bring it to NCRS standards, if that's your goal. I know you could find a soft top if you want, figure another $5K for a frame, restoration and top vinyl if you have to have it. This car was one of the 2,285 that got the N/C hard top in lieu of not getting a soft top, for the numbers guys. Sell the hard top to recoup that cost of you want, I sold one for a guy here a couple of years ago for $4K. If there is a tank sticker, it will still be there as the tank has never been out. I think I've described the car as I saw it and gave you the information so you can make an informed decision but if I missed something that you still need to know just let me know and I will be happy to find out.
