But wait, I almost forgot about its gleaming coat of killer Lime Gold pigment. So how about: fully documented, rotisserie restored Shelby Nationals Concours Heritage Gold GT500KR that's decked in correct Lime Gold 2-stage? Yeah, that sounds good. But trust us, if you like the sound of that sentence, you're going to LOVE the car it describes! BODYWORK/TRIM According to Ford expert Kevin Marti, this registry-listed Shelby was produced on May 14th, 1968 and delivered down south to Rivers Ford of Monroe, Louisiana. After four decades of excellent maintenance and accident-free living, the car was purchased by its present owner and enjoyed as a solid driver. As we all know, drivers are fun, and the car racked up quite a few MCA Concours awards in that state, but sometimes it's just better to take things to the next level. So, in 2014, this clean Mustang benefitted from a professional, rotisserie restoration that was completed by Shelby specialist Tim Lea of North Andover, Massachusetts. When the car emerged from the shop in May of 2015, everything was 100% correct all the way down to original, assembly-spec oil and air filters. And today, sporting correct Lime Gold Metallic 2-stage under familiar Shelby side stripes, it rolls as a first-class showpiece that secured a Gold at the 2015 Ford/Shelby Nationals in the Concours Heritage Class, and a Silver at SAAC 40 in Division II Concours judging. Naturally, a build this extensive involved quite a bit of original bolt-ons that, according to this KR's owner, were professionally re-plated as needed. At the front of the car, original fiberglass centers a stainless-trimmed grille behind clear Ford headlights, big Lucas driving lamps, a bright chrome bumper and bullet-style parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a familiar "S H E L B Y" script leads the eye to an original fiberglass hood, which is founded beneath mirror-like stainless and a SuperGlass-massaged greenhouse. At the sides of that greenhouse, a straight profile hangs original scoops, ornate Cobra Jet emblems and original fender extension around traditional door handles, a correct chrome mirror and NOS rocker guards. And at the back of that profile, a smooth silver valence centers correct taillights and a detailed fuel filler between a second chrome bumper, bright reverse lamps, KR-exclusive exhaust tips and an original, "S H E L B Y" branded decklid. ENGINE While the car's professionally rebuilt engine isn't original equipment, it is a highly accurate, date-correct 428. Long regarded as one of the most iconic mills ever created, factory-supplied Cobra Jets utilized a strengthened medium block, heavy-duty rods, a nodular crank, and larger valves and ports to produce an advertised 335 horsepower. At the top of the engine, ram air cowl induction centers a correct, SM8S-equipped air cleaner over a date-correct carburetor and high performance intake. At the sides of that intake, cast iron heads hang crinkle-finish Cobra LeMans valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds. The fires are lit by a familiar points distributor, which sequences sparks through fresh Autolite Radio Resistance plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a re-cored radiator, which circulates water through pliable Autolite hoses and vintage screw clamps. And charging is provided by squeak-free V-belts, which spin a rebuilt alternator between correct power steering and correct smog equipment. Aesthetically, the marked and decaled engine bay appears very close to original, featuring an even combination of Satin Black and Ford Blue paint. And everything, from the car's factory brake booster and fresh Autolite battery to its tidy Ford washer tank and fresh Autolite voltage regulator, is fully sorted and ready to show. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take a look under this Mustang and you'll find correct, Oxide Red floors that are such a close interpretation of the car's original foundation that they back correct Lime Gold overspray with factory-accurate paint drips. A tough C6 3-speed utilizes a correctly marked Dead Nuts On driveshaft to spin a correct Traction-Lok differential around correct 3.50 gears. At the front of that drivetrain, a rebuilt suspension centers a beefy sway bar and the aforementioned power steering between correct power disc brakes. At the back of that drivetrain, correct C7ZA leaf springs hang correct drum brakes at the edges of a clean stainless fuel tank. At the center of that suspension, fresh exhaust pipes funnel spent gases through an H-shaped crossover, small resonators and a transversely mounted muffler. And power meets the ground through E70-15 Kelsey repros, which wrap correct, KR-exclusive black sidewalls around appropriate Shelby 10-spokes. INTERIOR Naturally, Ol' Shel focused most of his energy on the performance and appearance of America's most revered pony car. And when those attributes were combined with Ford's already excellent interior, it paid big dividends. The first thing you'll notice is a snazzy wood-rimmed and chrome-trimmed steering wheel. Behind that wheel, a great looking dash frames a correct 140 MPH speedometer and 8,000 RPM tachometer beside a correct Philco radio. Opposite that dash, knitted vinyl seats are in spectacular shape, presenting hardly any evidence of use. Between those seats, a full-length console anchors small Stewart Warner accessory gauges in front of a slick Shelby shifter and correct, cobra-branded armrest. Beneath that console, like-new carpet rides tight between Shelby-branded sills. Opposite that carpet, a Shelby-spec roll bar and decaled sun visors perfectly complement a fresh headliner. BODYWORK/TRIM Purchased in 2011, and subjected to a 3-year, rotisserie restoration, this solid F1 currently rolls as a brilliant, attention-grabbing showpiece. Take one look down the sides of the car's slick body and it becomes very obvious that great care was taken to ensure all gaps are at better-than-factory standards. Step closer to the car's vivid pigment and check out straight and ripple-free surfacing that details original fenders, doors and rockers in front of new quarters and a new decklid. Grab the car's new hood and feel how smoothly it opens to provide excellent fit, which is set off by a glossy clearcoat shine. It all adds up to one top-notch pro-tourer that transforms traditional muscle car style into colorful street rod swagger! The classy lines of the prototypical Camaro simply ooze late '60s style. At the top of the body-matched block, a big Holley 4-barrell mixes high-octane fossils, sourced from stainless fluid lines, with wind that's supplied by a finned and color-keyed air cleaner. That air/fuel mixture floods a painted Winters intake, which centers a polished water neck between polished breathers and finned, "427" branded valve covers. Below those covers, GM 858 rectangular-port heads feed a balanced rotating assembly that's centered on a steel GM crank. At the back of those heads, a Mallory HEI distributor bridges the gap between a proven Comp Mutha Thumpr roller cam and loomed Accel SuperStock Spiral Wires. Below those wires, tubular shorty headers make quick work of spent gases. At the front of those headers, a billet March pulley system spins a beefy water pump between a modern AC compressor and modern power steering. Cooling comes courtesy of an oversize PRC radiator, which funnels anti-freeze around two SPAL puller fans. The legendary 427 utilizes a Hayes clutch and pressure plate to spin a tough Muncie 4-speed, which twists a narrowed Ford 9-inch around big, 3.70 gears. At the front of that driveline, Heidts tubular control arms lead Unisteer power rack-and-pinion steering. Opposite that front clip, an aftermarket 4-link anchors Air Ride Technologies coil-overs under Detroit Speed mini tubs. Stops come quickly thanks to four drilled rotors and a quartet of sixth generation Corvette calipers. Spent gases are managed by polished, Mandrel-bent pipes, which make good use of 3-inch Borla ProXS mufflers. Power pounds the pavement through Billet Specialties Daggers, which spin 225/40ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 275/35ZR20 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs. And, like any carefully restored classic, the bottom of this Camaro is as fit as its top, with painted and polished wheel wells framing original, undercoated floors, sturdy subframe connectors and a custom aluminum fuel tank. INTERIOR Inside this Chevy, classic style is augmented with seamlessly integrated customization. The car's modern, 2-tone seats display French-stitched leather that's completely free of significant wrinkles and creases. In front of those thrones, a red-detailed dash embeds a full array of Omega Kustom telemetry behind a custom instrument panel and billet vents for the car's Vintage Air conditioning. Chock-full of Hollywood A-listers, it's a fast paced, high octane classic that twists and turns through two hours of adrenaline-fueled action. Here at RK, we are always seeing recreations of the main attraction of the movie - the 1967 Mustang GT500 known as Eleanor. But every now and again we come across cars like this 1967 Mustang GT500 convertible recreation, that use the famous Eleanor as inspiration while putting modern touches on it. This 428-powered resto-mod is a brilliant mix of performance and flash. At RK Motors Charlotte, we believe the only thing cooler than a car that runs well is a car that turns heads. And this red-hot Mustang is capable of smoking vintage metal at the cruise in AND the race track! Even though this Stang had humble beginnings being a pampered Colorado car for most of its life, today it sits in a vibrant orange and packing some serious FoMoCo power under the hood. Without a doubt the first thing your eye is drawn to with this vehicle is the spectacular orange paint scheme. If you guessed that it was a custom paint color you would be right. The story goes that the previous owner was an ex-House of Kolor representative and created the custom color specifically for this Mustang. Running down the center of the custom orange is painted carbon fiber stripes that add to the incredible overall look of this vehicle. Since most classic car enthusiasts credit Carroll Shelby with introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustangs ever created, it's only natural that the builder opted for a slick Eleanor inspired design. At the car's leading edge, a billet, Shelby-style grille hangs chrome-trimmed headlights, a Shelby R valence and six PIAA driving lamps. At the top of that grille, an aggressive fiberglass hood aligns twist-style pins with clear glass, straight trim and Shelby-style quarter scoops. At the sides of that hood, a Shelby profile highlights traditional door handles, chrome, bullet-style mirrors, and subtle cove scoops. And at the back of that profile, the exhaust exits out in front of the rear tires, while a sculpted decklid hangs prominent like-new tail lights and a straight chrome bumper. Pop the car's lightweight orange hood and you'll find a 428 cubic inch big block V8 that gives new meaning to the words "Go Baby, Go"! Long regarded as one of the meanest mills ever created, Ford's fabled 428 FE remains as one of the kings of stoplight muscle. At the top of the Ford Blue block, a "COBRA" branded air cleaner funnels fresh wind into a big aluminum intake via dual 4-barrel carburetors. At the sides of that carburetor, finned "COBRA 428" valve covers hang over the headers. Aesthetically, the restored engine bay appears very close to an original, featuring an even coat of Satin Black paint. On the bottom of the hood you'll find more painted carbon fiber and the letters "GT500". In front of the engine an aluminum radiator is responsible for cooling the massive Ford block. Underneath this wildly custom Mustang is just as impressive as the rest of the vehicle. Put the GT500 on a lift and you'll see that bolted to the Ford block is a Tremec TKO 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to a 3.55 posi-differential. In front of the drivetrain you'll see the fully upgraded front suspension from Total Control. Equipped with a rack and pinion style setup, you'll also find adjustable coil over springs at all four corners of the vehicle. At the rear of the car a Chris Alston 4-link suspension setup, with sway bar, ensures that no corner will get the best of this Stang. Stopping power comes courtesy of Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes and, in front of those brakes, 17" Boze rims have been wrapped in Hankook rubber. The luxurious black leather interior is a lot like the rest of the car with a blend of modern and classic Shelby touches. The dashboard has been subtly remodeled to house bright white gauges with silver trim for a traditional, but updated appearance and much better functionality. On the floor like new black carpet flanks both sides of the upgraded center console where you'll find the controls for the 5-speed transmission. The shifter on top of the Tremec looks vintage and displays the correct 5-speed shift pattern. In front of the passenger seat you'll see where Carroll Shelby himself signed the dash. The builders declared that the project was finished only when they towed this Stang to the Shelby Museum and had Shelby himself sign the dash. Behind the driver you'll find a roll bar, and a two more seats that feature the same stitching pattern as the rest of the vehicle. The odometer shows only 238 shakedown miles since the build was completed, ensuring that this car is as good as it can possibly be.
