Nicknamed der Panzerwagen “Armored Car” weighing in at more than 3,400 pounds was a completely new body shape for model year 1972. A completely new SOHC 4.5 litre V8 engine was housed underneath the long sculpted hood and mated to a 3-Speed automatic transmission. 1981 model year saw the launch of the 380SL model, which introduced the new aluminum 3.8 litre V8 engine. It was much lighter and more efficient but still retained its predecessor’s excellent performance characteristics. With more luxury refinements and driver comforts, the 380SL became the must have luxury performance roadster. However which way the driver chose to drive the car, hardtop, soft top or top down, the SL was the epitome of classic luxury sports motoring. This 380SL left the Stuttgart production line in February 1982 and was invoiced to Mercedes-Benz North America. The car was shipped to Scholfield Bros, Mercedes-Benz INC in Wichita Kansas and sold new to its first owner on April 15, 1982 and has been with the same owner ever since. The Blue Green Metallic paint is all original and stunning, in almost showroom condition. Aside from two small scratches on the back convertible top boot area where the hardtop sits, the paint is exceptional. The interior of this 380SL is gorgeous, the original leather is near perfect and all of the carpets and trim are in exceptional condition. The convertible top is the original brown factory top and in excellent condition with no rips or tears or damage. The hardtop is original and exceptional.
