Three Shows/Three Awards including “First Place Sports Car” and “Outstanding Sports Car” Boise Roadster Show “Best Corvette” Valley Corvettes Corvette-Only Spring Show When I bought this car about 2 1/2 years ago is was a good running and nice appearing car with 70,000 original miles but I wanted to completely restore it. When I purchased it, the car was fairly original but (as you will read below) the original engine and transmission were long gone. The previous owner gave me the ownership history back to the original owner who lived in Florida. I have all the names of those owners, addresses and telephone numbers most of which have surely changed over the past 50 years. The last three owners let it sit for ten years each so most of the 70,000 miles per put on the car during the first twenty years of its life.Then the car was 6 months old it was stolen from the owner in Florida and recovered in Georgia. In the state of Georgia they still have a law that says if a stolen car is recovered in Georgia it gets a new VIN. That's what happened to this and many other Corvettes of this era. I am sure this point will be of concern to a buyer just as it was to me. Since the reVIN, the car has been bought and sold several times without a problem. When I bought the car out of state and had it retitled in Idaho I had to have it inspected just because it came from out of state. There was no problem getting it retitled in Idaho since the paperwork is all in order.I also have a document from the time the VIN was changed that shows the original VIN plus the new VIN. Possibly is some states the original VIN can be reinstated but not in Idaho. It only really matters if you wanted to have this car judged as original and since it is a resto-mod it probably doesn't matter.I wanted to make this car look very special and stand out from all the other C2 Corvettes. 1965 was the last year of old-school Rochester mechanical fuel injection. I like the look of the Rochester FI but not the dependability. I started out with a GM Performance Ram Jet intake manifold and electronic ECU controlled fuel injection system. I sent the intake manifold to Arizona Speed and Marine in Phoenix. They modified it to look like a Rochester dog-house FI set-up. The throttle body was moved from the front to the drivers side as you can see in the photos. I built a custom intake system to look similar to (but flashier than) the original. Finally the ECU was reprogrammed for optimum performance with the ZZ4 Fast Burn motor. I am very happy with the results. It is really fun to see the puzzled look on Corvette enthusiasts faces as they look at the motor and try to figure out what they are looking at.As you will read below, I have made many updates to the car to make it more modern and fun to enjoy without changing the best parts of the original design. When Peter Brock signed the dash he was very complimentary on the car and how it turned out.Finally, I am a detail oriented person so I have included a complete build list of all the parts I have put on this car. Here we have a 1965 Pontiac GTO for sale. This way cool street/strip cruiser is built to go fast but still has enough street manners to drive it to shows and go cruising! This car is a blast to drive on the street and sounds nasty! The car has been 11.40's in the quarter mile in race trim(open headers, and slicks) and 11.60's in full street trim. That's through the full exhaust, out the tailpipes, with street tires! I know there is more left in it with more testing and tuning. The GTO was raced briefly in the NMCA Nostalgic Super Stock class. It still has all the legal NHRA equipment to run in that class or other classes all the way down to 10.00 in the1/4 mile. There is probably less than two dozen runs on the drive train. I personally raced the car 3 weeks ago and it ran 11.60's flawlessly in street trim on a humid ( around 2500' altitude) day. I figure the engine makes around 550 HP at the crank! This GTO has been a hot rod for along time. The floors, frame and trunk are solid and original except for where they have been modified for the roll bar and fuel cell. The body is nice with some defects like chips, scratches and a few small imperfections on the passenger side lower door, quarter, and driver front fender( shown in pictures). The base/clear paint would be described as a ten footer. The paint looks good, and has decent shine, but has some blotches and thin spots on the lower part or the doors. It has a cool nostalgic patina look to it! The stock GM front and rear bumper have been re chromed. The hood is a LeMans flat hood that has been modified with a scoop for the dual carbs. All of the hood bracing and stock hinges have been removed for weight savings. It still lifts up, but requires a prop rod that is kept under the hood. The interior is good with very nice carpet, door panels and headliner. The factory front bucket seat are decent with some flaws and one split seem on the drivers seat. The dash is nice , but has been modified with no heater controls, and radio delete plate. The back seat area has been carpeted because of the roll bar installation. All the street equipment needed such as lights, turn signals, hazards, wipers, speedometer, etc work! I will try and give all the details on the drive train the best I can. So, here goes.
