Condition: This car for sale with VIN 494877H941102 has been garaged kept since it was first purchased by a proud couple in Washington State. It has also been well maintained mechanically which is documented by the pile of original paperwork. Included is the original BUICK GM factory production order sheet that documents build features. The "Exclusive Riviera Fawn" paint is in amazing condition. The car has had one repaint, and it looks wonderful both up close and far away. The black interior is in excellent shape and is all original (drivers side armrest shows some wear). This solid survivor is sporting a sleek black vinyl top that is in phenomenal condition. From the trunk, spare wheel well, engine compartment, and underside, it is all in great pure survivor form. Chrome and stainless steel adornments remain in spectacular order and the original/correct Buick Rally wheels are in top notch condition. Undercoat has been applied to the underside in the past, protecting it from rust. Many steering wheels from this year have deep cracks, yet here we have pristine, almost like-new condition. The dash is in straight condition and without cracking. The headliner has no damage and maintaines integrity. Not only is the form classically elegant, but the car is also a solid driver mechanically. The breaks are highly responsive, as is the throttle. The engine runs strong and shifting is smooth without issue. The newer exhaust system (installed by previous owner) offers a low rumbling that transcends into a roar when prompted. My mechanic also went over the car thoroughly. While many classic car sellers claim that the odometer is accurate with little more than hearsay and decent condition, this car has excellent condition, verbal history, paperwork, original owners notes, and further evidence to show that this almost 50 year old car has indeed well under 100,000 miles onboard. LB6A/50/503 Burgundy with Tan Leather Interior The 2.6 Litre was Lagonda’s first postwar model, and was a technically sophisticated clean sheet design that owed its existence to some of the best and brightest names in British motoring: Frank Feeley, Walter Owen Bentley, and David Brown. The exterior coachwork was designed by Frank Feeley, who also designed the Aston Martin DB2, while the mechanical components, particularly the lovely twin-cam inline-6, were designed by W.O. Bentley, and David Brown provided additional technical refinements and the backing to put the car in production. The heart of the car and its story is famously W.O. Bentley’s 2.6 liter dual overhead cam inline-6 that also powered the DB2. W.O. Bentley had joined Lagonda in 1935, after his three year obligation to Rolls-Royce was met following their absorption of Bentley Motors Ltd. in late 1931. In the 1930s, he was Lagonda’s chief designer and was responsible for their sophisticated V12 engine and several other sophisticated cars during the interwar years. After World War II, he designed the 2.6 liter twin cam inline-6 for the Lagonda 2.6 Litre, and it is reportedly this engine specifically that motivated David Brown to purchase Lagonda in 1947 since he had purchased Aston Martin earlier that year and was still utilizing the pushrod actuated inline-4 that Aston had on hand. Ultimately, the 2.6 Litre became W.O. Bentley’s last car design. When Brown bought Lagonda in 1947, they were already working on the 2.6 Litre, which, in addition to Bentley’s inline-6, had a host of other sophisticated features. This included independent suspension all round (including coil springs and dual wishbones at the front), inboard rear brakes, and X braced chassis. While prototypes had a Cotal pre-selector gearbox, David Brown supplanted this with the “David Brown” synchronized 4-speed gearbox, also shared with the DB2. The cars were available in open, closed, and saloon forms, and were sophisticated, luxurious, and expensive. Just 550 examples of all body styles were built in all, of which perhaps 50 were dropheads. This particular car was restored from the ground up some years ago by its previous owner, who was an aerospace engineer and professor at Cornell by the name of John L. Lumley. Lumley purchased the car in Scotland needing restoration from a fellow who owned another 2.6 Litre Drophead and brought the car back to the United States where he embarked on a thorough restoration. He discusses the restoration at length in his book, “Still Life with Cars: An Automotive Memoir”, and devotes an entire chapter to this particular car. There are also photos of the car from 1970, when it was seen parked on the street in 1978. While in the UK, the car wore registration number GKW 769. Today, it remains in sound overall condition and is a nice driving example that presents well overall but has some patina. The paintwork was done to high standards and is glossy, but shows some checking in places and the occasional chip or scratch. The body is straight and solid with good panel fit and operation. The chrome is very good, with minimal pitting and only light surface scratches. The lights and glass are very good throughout, with no major signs of wear or deterioration. The car is equipped with Lucas fog lamps. The top is high quality canvas and is in very good condition. The interior is in good overall condition. The leather has been redyed and is in good shape, with some creasing and minor cracking in evidence. Lumley comments on the impressive condition of the upholstery when he purchased the car, and it is likely that he opted to keep what may be the original upholstery when he restored the car. The wood dashboard is in great shape, as are the various switches and instruments. The carpet is high quality wool and in very good condition. The engine compartment has been beautifully restored and is nicely detailed and quite clean. The valve covers are polished and the various accessories have been attractively refinished in semi-gloss black. The glass washer fluid reservoir is in place, as is the factory air cleaner and heater system trunking. The trunk has a rubber mat in place which is in excellent order and the jack and a tool roll are in place. The car runs and drives well, with a great exhaust note and properly tuned engine. The controls are positive throughout, with a substantial and confidence inspiring solidity for all inputs. The gearbox is a pleasure to use with good synchromesh. The brakes are effective although they pull the car to the left somewhat. The steering is tight and it is easy to place the car accurately. This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a sophisticated and rare car that embodies a fascinating point in British motoring history. The result of a collaboration of some of the great engineers and industrialists of the time, the car has a sophisticated driveline and chassis which makes it feel more modern than its build date would suggest. LB6A/50/503 Burgundy with Tan Leather Interior The 2.6 Litre was Lagonda’s first postwar model, and was a technically sophisticated clean sheet design that owed its existence to some of the best and brightest names in British motoring: Frank Feeley, Walter Owen Bentley, and David Brown. The exterior coachwork was designed by Frank Feeley, who also designed the Aston Martin DB2, while the mechanical components, particularly the lovely twin-cam inline-6, were designed by W.O. Bentley, and David Brown provided additional technical refinements and the backing to put the car in production. The heart of the car and its story is famously W.O. Bentley’s 2.6 liter dual overhead cam inline-6 that also powered the DB2. W.O. Bentley had joined Lagonda in 1935, after his three year obligation to Rolls-Royce was met following their absorption of Bentley Motors Ltd. in late 1931. In the 1930s, he was Lagonda’s chief designer and was responsible for their sophisticated V12 engine and several other sophisticated cars during the interwar years. After World War II, he designed the 2.6 liter twin cam inline-6 for the Lagonda 2.6 Litre, and it is reportedly this engine specifically that motivated David Brown to purchase Lagonda in 1947 since he had purchased Aston Martin earlier that year and was still utilizing the pushrod actuated inline-4 that Aston had on hand. Ultimately, the 2.6 Litre became W.O. Bentley’s last car design. When Brown bought Lagonda in 1947, they were already working on the 2.6 Litre, which, in addition to Bentley’s inline-6, had a host of other sophisticated features. This included independent suspension all round (including coil springs and dual wishbones at the front), inboard rear brakes, and X braced chassis. While prototypes had a Cotal pre-selector gearbox, David Brown supplanted this with the “David Brown” synchronized 4-speed gearbox, also shared with the DB2. The cars were available in open, closed, and saloon forms, and were sophisticated, luxurious, and expensive. Just 550 examples of all body styles were built in all, of which perhaps 50 were dropheads. This particular car was restored from the ground up some years ago by its previous owner, who was an aerospace engineer and professor at Cornell by the name of John L. Lumley. Lumley purchased the car in Scotland needing restoration from a fellow who owned another 2.6 Litre Drophead and brought the car back to the United States where he embarked on a thorough restoration. He discusses the restoration at length in his book, “Still Life with Cars: An Automotive Memoir”, and devotes an entire chapter to this particular car. There are also photos of the car from 1970, when it was seen parked on the street in 1978. While in the UK, the car wore registration number GKW 769. Today, it remains in sound overall condition and is a nice driving example that presents well overall but has some patina. The paintwork was done to high standards and is glossy, but shows some checking in places and the occasional chip or scratch. The body is straight and solid with good panel fit and operation. The chrome is very good, with minimal pitting and only light surface scratches. The lights and glass are very good throughout, with no major signs of wear or deterioration. The car is equipped with Lucas fog lamps. The top is high quality canvas and is in very good condition. The interior is in good overall condition. The leather has been redyed and is in good shape, with some creasing and minor cracking in evidence. Lumley comments on the impressive condition of the upholstery when he purchased the car, and it is likely that he opted to keep what may be the original upholstery when he restored the car. The wood dashboard is in great shape, as are the various switches and instruments. The carpet is high quality wool and in very good condition. The engine compartment has been beautifully restored and is nicely detailed and quite clean. The valve covers are polished and the various accessories have been attractively refinished in semi-gloss black. The glass washer fluid reservoir is in place, as is the factory air cleaner and heater system trunking. The trunk has a rubber mat in place which is in excellent order and the jack and a tool roll are in place. The car runs and drives well, with a great exhaust note and properly tuned engine. The controls are positive throughout, with a substantial and confidence inspiring solidity for all inputs. The gearbox is a pleasure to use with good synchromesh. The brakes are effective although they pull the car to the left somewhat. The steering is tight and it is easy to place the car accurately. This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a sophisticated and rare car that embodies a fascinating point in British motoring history. The result of a collaboration of some of the great engineers and industrialists of the time, the car has a sophisticated driveline and chassis which makes it feel more modern than its build date would suggest. I recently purchased a new 2014 Mustang GT premium. i knew going in the basic kind of car i wanted. they didn't have what i wanted at the dealership so they searched all nearby dealers and couldn't find what i was looking. we ended up placing a custom order threw ford to get the exact car i wanted. he quoted me a price, after incentives including taxes, and all applicable fees. i took my vehicle specs and the price he gave me and contacted local dealers to see if they could beat Laurel Fords offer, and they either offered a higher amount or didn't answer back at all. it was the best deal within 75 miles of where i lived. i decided to place the order threw Laurel Ford and it took about 9 weeks to get built and delivered. they kept me updated on my vehicle status with weekly emails. they did not pressure me into buying any additional upgrades or packages. when i the vehicle finally came i was relieved to find it was exactly what i wanted but also the price i paid was the exact price he quoted me 9 weeks prior. they are very transparent with their offers, so if they say this is what you will pay, you can expect to pay that and not a penny more. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the car and helped me get acquainted with all its gadgets. i also want to mention i traded in my old car towards this purchase. they gave me the highest amount Kelly Blue book said my car was worth. it was overall a pleasant experience. i will buy from them for life and recommend them to anyone interested in a new car. 1979 Lincoln Mark V “Collectors Series” One Family Owned from NewUnder 97,000 actual miles VIN: 9Y89S748454 So, where else are you buying your clean, low-mileage, collectable Lincolns anyway? Reluctantly, this car was turned over to us by the grandson of the original owner a short time ago. Considering the over-all condition it’s apparent this Mark V has been lovingly cared for its entire life. The odometer now reads 96,967 and, based on the owner’s history recitation, are considered the original miles. Think about it, this boulevard cruiser has averaged less than 2,800 miles per year since new! According to the grandson, it seems Mrs. Hassman (the wife of the original owner) wanted him to consider buying a next generation 1980 Mark VI as they had just begun arriving in showrooms. Mr. Hassman regretted not grabbing a Diamond Jubilee Model the previous year and stuck to his guns, driving off the lot with this much more desirable Mark V “Collectors Series” (essentially a continuation of the 50th anniversary cars that added $8,000 to the list price). If you follow my Ebay auctions regularly you know I’ve been able to ferret out and offer a number of clean, unique Lincolns here the past ten years. We’ve sold all four versions of the Mark V Designer Coupe and a few very sharp Mark III & IV’s as well. Finding a rare, well-kept Collector’s Series is a real treat! The car was purchased new at the Everett, Washington Lincoln-Mercury dealership during the fall of 1979 and it has always been local to the north Puget Sound area. For those not familiar with the Lincoln Mark V series here’s a little background info gleaned from several sources: The final opportunity to purchase a full-sized American luxury car came in 1977 with the introduction of the Mark V. Never again would automobiles be so large, or demonstrate such a sheer presence based on size alone. For many years Lincoln had trailed Cadillac in sales, but during the sixties and seventies Lincoln finally established a look it could claim as its own, and finally started to challenge Cadillac for the top spot. In fact, the Mark series often outsold its competitor, the Eldorado. The 1977 - 79 Mark V was Lincoln's supreme achievement, the pinnacle of American luxury car design that has its roots buried in the age when bigger was better, style was based on grand visions, and a powerful engine under the hood provided status and became part of the American dream. Since Cadillac had down-sized its sedans in 1977 and, two years later, the Eldorado, the Continentals were the final full-sized, full-fledged American luxury cars. In the late summer of 1979 Lincoln put its customers on notice that this model year would be their last opportunity, and they'd best not put it off for long if they wanted a new traditional luxury car. CONDITION Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Lincoln? What fun! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, these decked out Collector’s Series Coupes are the best value for the overall driving experience that Lincoln had to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is. In many ways “time capsule” is a good adjective to use when describing this car. I know you’ll admire its overall provenance. All the glass is fine. Though I’m no expert, the exterior appears to still be wearing the original factory white paint and hand-painted pinstripes. The landau heavy vinyl top is the nicest original you’re going to find; NO cracks, fading or UV-induced “tiger claw” splits. Collector Series cars did not have the oval opera window on the rear sail panel and can also be identified by their gold grille bars, a unique crystal-like insert hood ornament and the padded “spare tire” hump on the rear deck that matches the landau top. Climb over, under and throughout - I know you’ll come up smiling! You’re NOT going to find body rust in the typical areas where it appears on vehicles from other parts of the country. Yes, the Puget Sound region is famous for rain, but our winter roads are rarely salted. At most we’ll have one or two days of light snow. Everyone panics and just stays home. Mechanically the car seems quite strong. Even after sitting in my warehouse for a few days at a time it never fails to start right up with the first few cranks. You just can’t beat the great 400 CID motors in these ‘79 coupes! Pump the gas a few times, turn the key and it starts right up, even when cold. The strong C-6 automatic three-speed transmission shifts just as it should with no slippage or other issues and we all know how good these Ford/Lincoln rear differentials are! The brakes feel just fine to me, too. All four original factory-optioned turbine-style alloy wheels are straight & true. Each is wrapped with very nice touring radials and have at least 90% remaining tread. Because the Mark V had been in dry storage when we acquired it, our mechanic gave it a good going-over after being trailered to our Auburn warehouse. We replaced the fuel tank & sending unit, flushed the fuel lines and rebuilt the carburetor. Fresh sparkplugs were also added before startup. I’ve spent many days both cruising the freeway and inching through rush hour traffic and can’t find fault with the way this Lincoln runs or drives out. I continue to use it 2 or 3 times per week as a freeway commuter, adding about 35 miles each round trip. My interior photos clearly show the great original midnight blue fabric upholstery front and back. There aren’t any wear spots in the usual places and these plush buckets (unique to the Collector Series) hold your bum comfortably for hours! I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges, too. They’re as clear and bright as the day this rig left the Wixom plant on an August afternoon nearly 35 years ago! The ashtray’s never seen a cigarette! The carpets are clean and un-faded (the original blue floor mats were in place and will be included). The headliner is great. Though I’ve only found a few things, I always try to point out any observed negatives as well. While the heater will keep you toasty warm, plan on having the AC system serviced/recharged to blow cold. Looks most of the R-12 refrigerant leaked out. The extra-large glass moonroof is great, but doesn’t slid open when pressing the power switch in the headliner. Both the small passenger & driver wind-wing windows and the main glass go up and down just fine. The power driver’s seat moves in all directions and angles except up/down. The original Ford Quadrasonic AM-FM/8-track stereo is still in place and works well. I came across quite a few eight-track tape cartridges still stored in the center console by the late Mr. Hassman back in the 1970’s (as you might expect, they’re all big-band artists and even a Polka player). You’ll appreciate the Cartier clock. There are NO cracks in the padded dash and the unique ebony-toned faux woodgrain inserts look great! Often I’ll encourage folks to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, California, the east coast, Canada and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to the Seattle-Tacoma International just a few miles from my vehicle storage warehouse in Auburn. I’m happy to meet you there at the airport and you can begin the journey home the same day! I wouldn't hesitate to drive this Lincoln on a long-distance road trip.
