This '66 is appealing in more ways than one, not only is it a legit K-code high performance Mustang, but it also packs its original 289ci V8 engine and its original Toploader 4-speed transmission in a concours restored wrapper, this stunning '66 Mustang is the perfect pony car for anyone who enjoys taking their vintage muscle to the streets and the show! Life started for this gorgeous black '66 Mustang when it was originally ordered by Jack Swain a sales manager for Johnny Bolton Ford in Maitland, Florida. From there, it was taken to the famous Winter Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. The car was sold as a demo in March of 1966 to Herbert Yeager. Yeager owned the vehicle for over 50 years, and in that time cared for his ride and made sure it stayed out of the elements. In 2012 it changed hands for the first time and then was extensively restored. Today it sits looking better than the day it rolled on to the dragstrip in 1966. Extremely well documented, backed by its original numbers matching K-code drivetrain, and fresh off a frame-off restoration, it doesn't get much better for Mustang enthusiasts. Before we get too far though let's first decode the VIN. VIN: 6T09K******6: 1966T: Metuchen, New Jersey assembly plant 09: 2-door fastback Mustang K: 289ci High Performance******: Basic production number Take one glance at this '66 Mustang's super slick body and you'll see what high quality craftsmanship that is performed by a dedicated group of individuals truly looks like. Those individuals work at a place called Classic Muscle Motor Company in Daytona Beach. According to the massive photo book that accompanies this solid Mustang, it was stripped to bare metal, thoroughly reworked and transformed from a tired old mare that lived in a gray stable into the thoroughbred race horse you see today. Originally leaving the factory in Emberglo, the decision was made to shoot this Mustang in a glossy black paint. The result is one sinister looking muscle car which mixes the classic design of a first generation Mustang with an authentic legendary drivetrain. It's obvious that Ford has always sweated the details on the Mustang. This example sits today with all its original sheetmetal still intact, and thanks to the highly detailed restoration, presents a finished, high quality appearance that goes far beyond its nice paint. Up front, a stainless grille which hangs a pristine corralled pony emblem between intricately detailed fog lights, sits above a body width chrome bumper. At the top of the car, like-new glass is framed by bright stainless trim, driver's side chrome mirror and new stainless wipers. And at the sides of the car, traditional Mustang ornamentation perfectly complements brand new door handles and the desired fastback look. At the back of the car, glossy peaked fenders frame factory fresh segmented tail lights and a highly detailed Mustang fuel cap. And a second showroom fresh chrome bumper hangs above traditional chrome trimmed reverse lights, chrome trimmed stainless exhaust tips which are integrated into the car's rear valence and a chrome tag bracket. Pop the solid steel hood and you'll find the original K-code 289 cubic inch Ford V8. Just because it displaces only 289 cubic inches, don't make the mistake of dismissing the potent V8 under the hood. Shelby used this engine in the early GT350s and dominated on the racetracks, and the 271 horsepower K-code 289 is only a step below the 306 horsepower race Shelbys. At the top of the engine, the fully rebuilt original Holley 4-barrel carburetor holds a correctly decaled chrome air cleaner, which is fitted with a cool Ford wing nut. At the base of that carburetor, a Cobra branded intake is bolted between the original stock heads. In front of those heads, a reliable points distributor sends fire through SX plug wires. In front of the block, cooling is provided by a radiator that appears to be the original, and comes complete with correct FoMoCo hoses. Aesthetically, the great sounding small block sits in a completely restored engine bay which has been sprayed traditional flat black. And nice pieces like correct decals, a correct FoMoCo washer fluid bag and provide the visual punch to match the cars highly detailed exterior panels. What would an excellent restoration be without a great foundation? Take a look under this Mustang and you'll find solid, rust free red floors that are highlighted by a lot of fresh paint and some serious restored hardware. Behind the hot 289, the original numbers matching Toploader 4-speed manual transmission turns the original tried and true Ford 9-inch rear axle. At the ends of the car, a restored double A-arm front and rear leaf spring suspension, which includes a factory front sway bar have been completely restored. And at the corners of the car, manual drum brakes provide firm, fade-free stops. Step on the throttle and the aforementioned headers hurl exhaust into a true dual system which breathes through an H-Pipe crossover and aggressive Magnaflow mufflers. Power is put to the pavement by great looking 14 inch chrome Ford Mustang wheels that are wrapped in fresh redline BF Boodrich rubber. Open the door to this pristine '66 Mustang and you'll find a fully restored cockpit that mixes the best elements of the 'Pony Interior' with standard black vinyl that provides an exceptionally attractive starting point. The factory Deluxe interior bucket seats wear new pleated Pony covers between new chrome hardware; and the original dash looks like it came straight out of the box yesterday morning. Inside that dash, a traditional black instrument panel holds a full assortment of fully rebuilt gauges between new chrome knobs for the cars accessories. Below that dash, the original tilt steering column houses an impressive chrome spoked and wood trimmed steering wheels that spins in front of a slick column mounted tachometer and continuous motion electric clock. Keep in mind, this car was built with the sole purpose of laying down lightning fast times on the dragstrip. So the interior is modest, void of distractions. At the bottom of the car, new black carpet is protected by heavy duty, Mustang branded floor mats. A factory black headliner stretches from the front of the car to its fully restored and correctly finished trunk. Included with the sale of this awesome Mustang are two original factory build sheets, dealer invoice, partial window sticker, owner's manual with jacket, and plenty of restoration photos.
