I apologize in advance for the LONG description. I believe if you are going to buy something for thousands of dollars sight unseen, I should make my best effort to describe my truck as well as I can. Most questions will be answered by reading my ad, but if you have something additional, by all means, email me. I also have a video of the truck running that I can email you, if you want. Brief background of the Lil Red Express trucks in general - Dodge produced these trucks for just two years, 1978 and 1979. Production in 1978 was only 2,188, while 1979 was 5,118. 1978 was the last year for round headlights, and it also had factory staggered wheels, with 15x7 up front and 15x8 in the rear (1979's were all 15x8). The "Tuff" steering wheel was standard in 1978 (it did make it on some early 1979's as well). Due to a loop hole in federal regulations, Dodge was able to produce all 1978's without catalytic converters (the loop hole was closed by 1979). The 360 engine E58 was a modified version of the "police" engine, and had 225 HP, making the 1978 Lil Red Express trucks the fastest American made vehicle from 0-100 in 1978, beating out the Corvette, Trans Am, and Camaro. These trucks were an effort by Dodge to refuse to succumb to the low performance standards of the day, and are sure to be very desirable in the future. And if you think about collectability, it is all about rarity. So between the two years of production, you want the 1978, with lower production, more performance, and classic styling. Brief history of THIS Lil Red Express - This truck was purchased new by a Mr. Outlaw from Delta Motor Service Chrysler dealership in Indianola, Mississippi. The business still exists today, although it appears they no longer have a Chrysler franchise. The truck was driven regularly, and at some point was sold to the second owner. Around 1989, the truck was restored by this owner, with right around 70,000 miles on it. I have many receipts, including for a complete engine rebuild. In the mid 1990's, the truck was sold again to the third owner, who basically never drove it and just parked it under cover in his garage. At the time, I was running my own used car dealership about 2 miles from the third owners home, specializing in high performance and antique cars. In 1997, after trying to buy this truck for months, the owner traded it in to me on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. We used the truck as a promotional piece until 2001, when I closed my car dealership. The truck was then transferred into my name, and I have owned it ever since. Chassis / frame / body / paint - The chassis is very tight on this truck. It tracks true and straight. The rear is silent in operation, and the brakes stop smoothly and evenly. The frame appears to have been sandblasted or at least sanded and thoroughly cleaned during the restoration. VERY solid and clean vehicle underneath. The body appears to be very solid, with NO evidence of rust or previous rust repair anywhere that I have found. The truck was repainted the original color at the time of restoration. It is a very presentable paint job, but lacks the super deep shine of a show vehicle. Perhaps it could be buffed out. There are several chips on the front of the rear stepside fenders, as the front tires toss stones back there while driving. Overall, it is a very solid truck with no rust and a strong drivetrain, showing minimal wear from years of careful driving since the restoration. Drivetrain - The engine and trans both appear to function excellently. The trans does tend to drip some fluid when sitting, but not enough to really be a cause for concern. The engine runs very strong, and has excellent oil pressure (around 40 at warm idle, 50 plus driving). The original air cleaner remains on the engine, as does what I believe to be the original carb. Stock exhaust manifolds are likewise present, attached to what is either the original exhaust system, or more likely a reproduction of that system. The chrome valve covers do not appear to be originals, as they are stamped "direct connection". The engine and transmission were both rebuilt during the restoration, and I have a receipt as proof for the engine (I may have one for trans too, I will need to look). Wheels, wood, and bed - The bed has been fully restored, and is straight and smooth. The wood floor has been replaced, but rather than paint it red as the factory did, it has been stained and cleared for a beautiful appearance more suiting of a quality restoration. The custom bed cover is very clean for its age, with just some slight discoloration here and there. Underneath the cover is some foam, and then a piece of plywood, so the cover is completely flat. The chains are missing from the tailgate, so there are two marks (one of each side), where the tailgate was lowered down and hit the bumper. I haven't opened the tailgate more than four times in the years I have owned the truck, so I never bothered with the chains. The wood panels on the tailgate appear to be original, but refinished. These pieces do show some minor cracks. All of the rest of the wood pieces are excellent. The wheels on the truck are original. While not perfect, they are in very good condition, with only a few spots where there is very minor rust or thin chrome. Bear in mind this is the ONLY year for the staggered wheels. The last set of these I saw for sale were in need of a full restoration, and the asking price was $1800. And that was 5 years ago. These wheels are nearly always missing, even from some very high end restored trucks. As far as I know, no one makes an exact reproduction of these wheels, so if you don't have them, they are very hard to find. The tires in the rear are 275/60/15, and have 90% tread left (they are only 3 years old or so). The fronts are 235/60/15, and have maybe 20-25% tread left. The fronts should be 245's, but I had some 235's from another car, so I used them. My intention was to put 245's on when I replaced them. The fronts should probably be replaced before too long, as they are fairly old tires. Interior - Dash pad is very good, with the only crack being in the glove box door. This is apparently very common for these trucks. The dash bezel has been replaced and is excellent. The fuel gauge is not working, and has not since I have owned truck. I never attempted to repair, but suspect either a bad ground, or bad sender unit. The oil pressure gauge is currently unhooked, as it was reading low. I replaced it with a mechanical gauge mounted under the dash. The amps and water temp appear to work as intended. The speedometer works, but reads fast by about 20%. Story goes that while in Mississippi, the owner changed the rear gears to make the vehicle more friendly to drive on the open roads out there. He also changed the speedo gear when he did that. When the truck came east and was restored, the original gears (3.55) were put back in the truck, but the speedo gear was not changed, resulting in the incorrect speedometer reading. I have never attempted to repair, but it is a very simple job. It should also be noted that the original speedometer stopped functioning during my ownership (back in April 2006), showing 80,064. I replaced it with a good used one that was showing 70,996. So the "new" one is showing roughly 9,000 miles less than it should. I do still have the original speedometer, and it will be included with the truck. The carpet has been replaced, and while in good condition, appears to be a generic piece that was trimmed to fit (not a model specific molded version). The drivers seat does show some vinyl cracking along the side bolster. I believe the seats to still be wearing their original vinyl. It is NOT ripped to the foam, just appears the vinyl has pulled away a little from its backing. The Tuff steering wheel is in good shape, with just minor spots on the metal spokes. This is likewise a very rare piece, as they were normally ripped apart from weather and use, and are normally replaced with the standard Grant wheel. And although it did appear on some very early 1979's, this wheel is essentially 1978 only. The door panels both are solid. The original am/fm stereo is in the truck, and I believe it works. To be honest, I don't think I ever turned it on. I prefer to listen to the music coming out of the twin stacks. The driver side door glass has pitting in it, and while it functions as intended, it should be replaced to improve the appearance of the truck. I always drive the truck with the windows down, so I was only reminded of the window when I closed it to wash the truck before preparing this ad. The heater core was unhooked when I bought the truck. I assumed it leaked, so I bought a replacement heater core. I never installed it, as I do not use the truck in cold temps, but it will be included with sale. If you know these trucks, you know finding a rust free example is extremely difficult. You know that finding one with the original wheels still on it, in good shape, is very hard. You know that 1978 is the year you want, due to lower production, better performance, staggered wheels, no converters, classic styling and TUFF steering wheel. You know that in 1978, THIS was the fastest American made vehicle from 0-100mph. If you know these trucks, then you will know this is a good one. Paperwork/Documentation: Yes, this is a REAL Lil Red Express! I have the under hood decal (build sheet) to prove it. I also have the original owners manual in great condition, the original sound system and tire manuals, and the original bill of sale (the truck sold new for $6,200, which would be around $24k in today's money). I even have some of the original loan paperwork. I have a slew of receipts from the restoration. All of this paperwork will go with the truck to the new owner. Trades: I will consider a trade of a Street Rod Sedan. 4 door or 2 door. Not looking for a "project", but doesn't need to be perfect either. I currently have one that needs work, and if I found the right deal, I would sell mine and keep yours. I will also consider a convertible, any year. Other than that, let me know what you have. I am not looking for a trade other than what I listed, but I am a car guy, and maybe I will be interested in your offer. Terms: The Lil Red Express is being sold as is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Please understand this is a 1978 vehicle. While very solid and presentable, it is not without flaws, and shows wear from having been driven regularly. The paint has chips here and there, the interior has marks and defects, the grille has some blemishes. I am not trying to make the truck sound bad because it absolutely is not, but be realistic. It is not new, nor is it a fresh $50,000 restoration. If it was, it would be way more money. I strongly encourage you to look at the truck before committing to buy it, as a bid in an auction sale is a commitment to buy according to Ebays terms of use. I have clear PA title to this vehicle that is ready to transfer to your name. Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. I can provide my phone number to serious buyers who prefer to communicate in person instead of email. Just let me know. Payment must be in the form of cash, bank to bank wire transfer, cashier's check or personal check (all of which will have to clear before I will release the title or the truck). I will require a $500 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of the auction ending. That deposit is not refundable, UNLESS there is a significant difference between the description written here and the vehicle. You shouldn't pay for my mistakes. The remainder of the monies due must be paid within 10 days in the form of cash on pickup, cashier's check, wire transfer or personal check. In all cases except cash, the funds must CLEAR MY BANK before I will release the truck or the title. Too many people are faking bank checks anymore. You are solely responsible for shipping or picking the truck up once payment has cleared. I will do all I can to be available on your schedule, if possible. I can store it for a little while after full payment is made, but part of the reason I am selling it is because I desperately need the garage space. NO INTERNATIONAL SALES UNLESS YOU CONTACT ME FIRST. I have sold a car to a gentleman in Canada, and had no problem. I had a guy win my auction from Australia on another car, and mess around for well over a month before refusing to pay because the shipping cost was too high. Listing on ebay costs money and time. And shipping a car half way around the world can be pricey. Please only bid if you understand these points, and are serious.

We are selling our 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express. It has 78000 miles, and is in great condition. We have kept it in dry storage and have driven it very little. We purchased it a few years ago, and have had no issues with it, other than we had the wheels refinished due to some pitting. We plan to post some more pictures in the coming days, along with exact miles. We also have the original factory build sheet for this, and will post a picture of this as well. Please message us with any questions you might have. Thanks for looking. Regards.

1978 Dodge D-150 Adventurer Little Red Express, This is the one you've been waiting on!!!! It's really hard to find a nice '78, harder to find factory air that blows cold air, also the popular black interior with bucket seats, and orig. sliding rear window. This best year of the LRE's was always babied and given the best care. The miles are orig. 75,755 and the interior is unbelievable. I'm sure this is the original carpet, only slightly faded. I've seen several of these and this one is nice. The original seats are unbelievable. Dash is beautiful, gauges and lights are all working. Orig. radio fm , cassette with Dolby. New door speakers and grill covers. Cassette doesn't engage, but tries to play?? Speedometer needle is off 0, but is correct by my gps at 50,60, or 70 mph. Dash is like new, door panels have very little wear. Still has orig. wheels,15x7 for front and 15x8 for the rear , seats are black buckets with middle console , or flip it up for extra seating. storage compartment underneath. The right rear fender was damaged by a snow chain, that came loose, during a move, I have an original fender, that is in good shape, I'll throw in with the deal, however the other one is repairable. there are normal small dingies and scratches. It needs painting, decals and such. This is a great little truck to keep or restore, I drive it all around.I don't know what else to say. Ask questions and look at my photos, if I can help in any way call or email me. I'm trying to buy another truck and can't keep this one. Thanks for looking, Chris 903-926-0941.. I have some extra goodies, that go with the truck... a new in box LRE men's wrist watch, Original paint chips, Haynes manual, nice OEM right rear fender, LRE tool roll bag, working am/fm radio and one hard to find orig . black door speaker grill, a fold out color brochure about the '78 and '79 LRE, other misc small things........I will try to add these photos...thanks

I have a 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express for sale. Truck started in Ohio and was sold in auction in 1998. It then went to North Carolina for a few years and was sold to a collector in Nashville, TN. Was owned there for 5 years before I picked it up. I have gone through the truck and replaced rear brake shoes/drums and all hardware. New cables for emergency brake. Front brakes to include wheel bearings as well as rotors and pads were replaced. Calipers on front were rebuilt to insure safety and reliability. New master cylinder and front brake lines. The exterior wood has been cleaned up and restained. New suspension to include KYB shocks on all 4 corners. Body mounts and bushings were replaced. Interior was reupholstered to include bench seats and glove box door. Truck came with a Tuff wheel but I also have a standard D150 wheel that I acquired through a lot of parts that I purchased at a swap meet. I have a rear slider window that will come with sale along with any extra parts I can locate. Engine and trans rebuilt about 5 years ago. Truck was repainted about the same time. Truck had power windows installed but I have original manual cranks. A sunroof was installed at the factory in 1980. No leaks. I am including a Cd player as well as small subwoofer and 2 speakers. Everything is installed and works great. I never affixed the CD player in dash because I have considered relocating it to glove box for a cleaner look. New battery, belts, and fluids to include coolant, oil, trans/filter, and differential. Truck has headers with no cats. Gives it a great sound. Should be a fun driving project that just requires finishing touches of next owner. I am a ford guy and have run out of time to play it. I get compliments all the time as these truck as becoming rarer.

For sale is a rare 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express pickup. The Lil Red Express was a factory built hot rod of a truck built for both speed and style. These trucks were only made in 1978 and 1979, and are becoming harder and harder to find. The truck sports a 360 CID V8 and a 727 automatic transmission. Gearing was for acceleration with a 3.55 ratio. Unique to the Lil Red Express were bright red paint with gold striping, chrome exhaust stacks with heat guards, a step-side bed with wood trim, and a factory AM/FM. Being a top of the line model, this vehicle is well optioned for a vintage truck with power steering, power brakes, AM/FM radio, vinyl split bench seat, seat belts, and aluminum wheels with white letter radial tires. What better way to stand out at the cars shows than to pull up in a limited edition truck! These Lil Red Express trucks are becoming more and more collectible and are desired by Mopar fans and truck fans alike. This example sports black vinyl interior which is in wonderful condition. The truck fires right up and is a joy to drive. The exhaust stacks alone are good for quite a few thumbs ups. Located in our St. Louis Showroom, this 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express can be seen including 50+ HD pictures and video at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. " Discount " shipping is available world wide and we help set up all the shipping for you !! **Truck history and info. website links : The 1978-1979 Dodge Li'l Red Truck was a sassy little performance number made possible by a regulatory loophole. When Dodge discovered that Environmental Protection Agency regulations allowed light trucks of over 6,100 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight to run with no smog gear at all, it set about creating what some consider the original muscle pickup. Despite its humble origin -- a very basic Dodge D150 pickup with a narrow box and shorty 115-inch wheelbase -- the Dodge Li'l Red Truck was an impressive package. For about $5,000, a customer got the high-line Adventurer cab in red or black, with bench or bucket seats. From there, the buyer could personalize with extra gauges, including a tachometer, various sound systems, including eight-track tape or CB, and a "Tuff" steering wheel right out of the old Dodge Challenger R/T muscle car. The 1978-1979 Dodge Li'l Red Truck came only in Canyon Red set off by bold gold decals on doors and tailgate, plus genuine varnished oak planking on box sides, tailgate, and bed floor. But the real killer was that pair of tall, 2.5-inch-thick chrome exhaust pipes poking up through the step plates behind the cab. Wrapped in perforated metal heat shields, they looked like they'd been swiped from a Kenworth 18-wheeler. Those stacks led straight to a 360-cubic-inch V-8, tuned as if smog regs didn't exist. Essentially, it was the E58 police unit (E for "Express," hence the name on the doors), sans "Lean Burn" and emissions hardware but fortified with a free-breathing Holley four-barrel carburetor, twin-snorkel fresh-air induction, beefed-up internals, and heavy-duty electrical. End result: **225 horsepower and a thumping 295 lbs/ft of torque at 3200 rpm. Completing the performance picture were a three-speed Leaflet automatic transmission, 3.55:1 differential, stiff springs and shocks, and LR60-15 white-letter radials on eight-inch wheels. Most examples of the 1978-1979 Dodge Li'l Red Truck carry the optional slotted chrome rims, power steering, and power brakes. Performance was quite good for a time when smog equipment had a stranglehold on horsepower. The 1978-1979 Dodge **Li'l Red Truck did the standing quarter-mile in under 16 seconds, 0-100 mph in 20 seconds. Adding to its appeal, production was just 2,188 for 1978, and 5,118 for 1979.
