1978 Ferrari 308 GTS Original Oro Chiaro Metallizzatto 106-Y19 color with VM890 Testa Di Moro interior. The car has just come out of almost one year in the body shop where all rust was removed with new metal welded in where necessary and resprayed in the original color. Ferrari Classiche department letter included with the sale confirms the original build. Suspension: All new suspension has been installed including new Koni shocks, all new bushings, new ball joints, new tie rod ends, new sway bar bushings and drop link bushings. Sway bars, A arms and springs were sent out to be stripped and powder coated. New wheel bearings on all four wheels CV joints repacked. New bulkhead steering bush Brand new Michelin tires 205-70-14. Just completed 4 wheel alignment. Clutch: New AP Racing clutch with Hill Engineering throwout bearing and new carrier installed. Clutch cable has a new roller under the chassis. Engine: New timing belts and Hill Engineering tensioner bearings. New spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter and new gaskets for oil pan and transmission pan using upgraded sealing washers. A new hi torque starter installed. Exhaust was ceramic coating in gloss silver. New Hyperflow catalytic converters installed replacing the original burnt out units. Upgraded fuel lines have been installed. Note: air pump has been removed and capped, original equipment will be provided which includes, air pump, tube, both brackets, air injection manifolds (ceramic coated) and air injectors. Brakes: All four calipers rebuilt with new stainless steel pistons. New stainless steel brake lines on all four wheels. New vacuum line from engine to brake servo run through chassis. The master cylinder has been rebuilt. Servo / booster rebuilt by “Booster Dewey” AC New retro air AC system installed with new lines through the chassis, an upgraded condenser and compressor, a new dryer and SPAL fans. The system was just vacuumed and professionally charged with 134a Electrical Upgraded fusebox by “Birdman.” New alternator installed with new belt. New Optima AGM battery with CTEK battery tender installed. New ignition coils Pertronix electronic ignition Distributors advance rebuilt and lubed New Pertronix spark plug wires and coil leads New marker, tail, reverse, and turn indicator lights. LED headlights Hoses: Scuderia Rampante hoses installed for coolant and fuel crossover and filler neck. All new ethanol safe fuel lines installed Evaporation system rebuilt Interior: Interior restored to original VM890 Testa Di Moro brown leather. New window and door moldings inside and out and new window channel felt New seatbelts New targa to roof moulding New window motor on passenger side Door bottom rubbers New window stop bumpers Targa top sealOriginal Momo steering wheel recovered.Hill Engineering steering spacer and wheel adjusted so an adult can fit comfortably. This Ferrari has low miles and is in good overall condition! Car is very nice and a blast to drive! Runs and drives very well. Here are a list of the items we either have completed at our Service Facility. Just completed installation of, remanufactured water pump and gaskets, belts, factory Bosch alternator rebuilt, new battery, and rebuilt rear brake calipers. Currenty, transmission shift seal has a slight leak as does the valve cover gaskets and will need attention at some point, although the leaks are very minimal and it can still easily be driven and enjoyed. It will need new injectors, plugs and extenders ($560 estimate for Bosch injectors and replacement plugs/extenders). Don't let everyone scare you. This is one of the easiest Ferrari't to not only work on but own, and the parts are readily available and not at all outrageously priced. Any honest mechanic will tell you the same thing. The 308 carried a 2.9 litre DOHC eight cylinder engine with four Weber carburetors amidship which was the same layout that was used in the Boxer. The GTS model was introduced for model year 1977 and became the most popular of the two models offered. Ferrari had to keep up with strict emission regulations through the late 1970’s and for model year 1980 introduced fuel injection to the 308. The 308 by this point had become a little heavier and power had dropped to a mere 205hp. It was not until the 1983 model year that Ferrari introduced the 308QV which gave a stronger engine with more power and added four valves per cylinder. The 308 soldiered on until 1985 when it was replaced by a very similar 328. The iconic style of the 308 is one of the most recognized Ferrari’s ever produced and the early carbureted models have become the most sought after. European Motor Studio is very proud to offer this stunning 1979 Ferrari 308GTS Carbureted model finished in Giallo over Nero leather. This Giallo 308 was sold new on May 15, 1979 in Los Angeles California and was owned and titled by “The 6 Million Dollar Man” himself, Lee Majors. At the time Lee Majors was married to Farrah Fawcett and owned this 308 until sometime in the mid to late 1980’s when the second Southern CA owner purchased the car. The car was owned by the second owner until 1996/1997 when the third Southern CA owner purchased the car and kept it until a private collector out of Dallas TX purchased it in 2013 and has owned it since it was traded into European Motor Studio. The car is exceptionally well documented all the way back to new and has an enormous file of receipts and records. The Giallo paint is in exceptional condition with no real flaws or issues and a stunning interior with minor wear to the driver seat bolster. The Targa top is in excellent condition with a nice fit free from any shrinkage or damage. This 308 has traveled a mere 42,996 miles from brand new and has just had a full major service including a timing belt and tensioners, along with a new AC compressor and drier, oil and trans cover gasket, cam gaskets and all fluids. The engine was rebuilt in the mid 90’s and runs and drives beautifully. The carbs are in tune and the engine starts right up. There is no smoke under start up or acceleration and the gearbox is smooth through all of the gears free from any grinding or slipping. The clutch is nice and strong and free from any slippage. The brakes are strong and free from any fade or pulsating. The steering is nice and tight and quite a bit of work was recently done on the steering and suspension. All of the electrical equipment is in working order and the pop up headlights are operating as designed. There are no signs that this 308 has ever been involved in any kind of accident or has ever had any damage. The body is exceptionally straight and the paint finish is beautiful. The undercarriage is beautiful and free from any rust or damage. Two binders inches thick of records and receipts are present with the sale of the car along with service manuals, a parts catalog and the original owners handbook, spare tire, jack in the original bag and two sets of keys. This is an exceptional example of a rare and desirable early carbureted model 308 finished in a rare and fantastic color combination accompanied by many decades of documents and receipts with excellent Hollywood provenance. The paint job is completely original with no repainted panels on the car. The interior is in great shape given its age and the leather throughout the cabin is well-kept. The vehicle features a 5-speed manual transmission and a 2.9L V8 engine that included fuel injection for the first time as of 1980. The GTS version of the Ferrari 308 features a targa top that can easily be removed by a single person. While the Ferrari 308 had been around since 1975, an important change was made halfway through its production run. In 1980 Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection was added on the 308 GTS (subsequently renamed 308 GTSi) which helped reduce its emissions. The Bosch fuel injection system was coupled to a Marelli MED 803A Digiplex electronic ignition system, incorporating a coil, distributor and ignition module for each bank of cylinders. Unlike the 308 GTSi it succeeded, the Quattrovalvole featured 4-valves per cylinder (quattrovalvole means "four valves" in Italian) which increased its power output to 240 hp and restored some of the performance lost to the emission control equipment of previous model years. We have the original owner's manual with some service stamps in it. This classic Ferrari is a significant piece of the company's rich heritage and would be a wonderful addition to any collection. It features a 240 bhp, 2,926 cc DOHC 32-valve 90-degree V-8 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission with a clutch-type limited slip differential, independent front and rear A-arm suspension with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, 16 inch Speedline wheels and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Other changes for this model included a rear spoiler and additional louvers between the headlamps to aid with cooling. It was offered in both a coupe version and as an open-air model, the GTS, which boasted a targa-style removable roof panel that could be stowed behind the rear seats when not in use. Just 3,042 Spyders would be produced during its three-year model run. The 308 is most notable for playing a starring role in the 80's TV show Magnum, P.I. with actor Tom Selleck behind the wheel. The factory yellow with tan interior color combination on this example is extremely rare. The paint looks fantastic and the leather interior is in excellent shape considering its age.
