Designed to compete against the contemporary Lamborghini Miura and newly designed Countach, the 365 GT4 BB represented a major departure for Enzo Ferrari, replacing the front-engined Daytona. Ferrari had previously been of the opinion that such a powerful mid-engined road car would be too much for his customers, but eventually realized otherwise after the success of the mid-engined Dino racing cars, and of course the V6 mid-engined Dino road cars. The stunningly handsome and very rapid Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer, or 512 BB, was introduced at the Paris Auto Show in October of 1976, although actual production had begun several months earlier. The 512 BB was the successor to the 365 GT4 BB, and offered a similar mechanical layout and exterior appearance. The new car included the addition of a new front chin spoiler and NACA intakes on the flanks. There were also now just four taillights instead of the previous six. Most notably, the 365BB/512BB series was Ferrari's first with a 180-degree flat 12-cylinder engine in a production car. The four camshafts on these engines were belt-driven, another "first" for Ferrari. The 512's engine produced 360 DIN bhp at 6,200rpm, breathing through a quartet of Weber three-barrel carburetors. Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection replaced the carburetors in late 1981 to help meet increasingly tough US exhaust emission regulations - the car's name was altered to reflect this change. As a result, horsepower dropped to 340 and torque to 333 foot-pounds at 4,600rpm. The injected Berlinetta Boxer still however remained a strong performer, capable of 0-60 from a standing start in just six seconds flat, and reaching almost 175mph (the factory claimed an optimistic 188 mph), covering the standing quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 103.5mph. A plush leather interior, full instrumentation, electric window lifts, three-point inertia seat belts, and air conditioning were standard. A unique "single-arm, twin blade" windshield wiper was fitted to help clear the huge windshield glass. Road & Track magazine called the 512 BB "the best all-around sports and GT car we've tested". THE MOTORCAR OFFERED Offered here is a factory left-hand-drive, European-specification 512 Berlinetta Boxer. The desirable carbureted 512, chassis number 24445 was originally delivered new to Germany in 1978. The car subsequently relocated to Bruxelles, Belgium, where it was stolen during the early 1980s. 24445 was discovered in California, USA in 1985, having been fitted with engine and transaxle from 512 BB chassis number 24317. The car was owned by a Ferrari Owners Club member in Santa Fe Springs, California from 1986-1993, before being offered for sale in the mid-1990s in Florida. The kilometer reading recorded at this point was just 28,000kms. 512 BB 24445 is believed to have been in a collection in Texas during the late 1990s, before relocating to California, and later to the east coast. In 2014, the marque specialists at Black Horse Garage, Bridgeport, Connecticut, treated the Ferrari to an extensive, engine-out service, where the cars clutch and timing belt were replaced. Today, this 512 BB shows beautifully throughout. Presented in its Rosso Corsa finish with Nero Black leather, it is fitted with the attractive Cromodora 'Star' alloy wheels with three-eared knock-off spinners. The new Coupe was finished in the same livery it sports today, the elegant Grigio Argento over a Nero Cogolo Connolly interior with matching wool inserts and red carpets. Delivered new to Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich in April of '72, it was described as being fitted with options that include air conditioning and a Becker Mexico radio with Hirschmann antenna. The car was sold new to a Californian who took advantage of the fact that his early production GTC/4, the 95th of 501 built, meant that he could snag the California vanity plate "72 GTC"—the same Blue Plate it retains today. Acquired by the vendor in 2011, it was recently the subject of a comprehensive restoration by marque experts in California. The car was torn down to the bare metal and returned to factory fresh condition. Topside, fresh paint in the factory color was applied, rubber molding were replaced as needed, the interior was redone in the original color and with the correct woven seat inserts, and the Borrani wheels were completely rebuilt and refinished. Mechanically, the engine, suspension, brakes system, Weber carburetors, and distributors were all rebuilt, the clutch and exhaust were replaced with correct units, a new set of Michelin XWX tires were fitted—the list goes on. The finished product shows beautifully, like a true Grand Touring car representative of its era. Finished just as when it left the dealership when new—down to the colors, options, California Blue Plates, and even the original Neiman keys, there are few nicer examples out there. Offered with this handsome Ferrari are tools, books, and Marcel Massini's history report. For Sale is a 1970 365 GT 2+2 AKA Queen Mother 12 Cylinder 5 speed transmission, Chassis # 13471 This vehicle has had extensive reconditioning of entire engine and running gear during its life time by Pat Ottis and most recently by Greg Jones, It recently completed The Sun rally a 1,200 Mile rally out west, The vehicle is in excellent working condition with complete original tool kit and manuals.This vehicle is road worthy and a great driver, available to see in Florida (contact for more information if interested) Current owners write up, I got some background information about it from Ferrari Market Letter. In 1987, Dick McClure, a Ferrari collector from Stockton, CA, bought the car from Leonard Blaylock III of Houston. The car was rough and disassembled and the parts were in the trunk and interior. McClure restored it and rebuilt the engine over the next 6 years with the help of Patrick Ottis, one of the top Ferrari mechanics as I'm sure you know, and Geoff Ohland. He then showed it at Concorso Italiano and other venues and rallied it. I have about $70,000 of invoices from before I bought the car in 2010 from McClure, through Tom Shaugnessy. As I said in my prior email, I bought the Borranis from Tom. I also had him rebuild the brake booster and clutch and various other things and bought a tool roll and jack and roll ($7,500 and probably worth more now) from him. I also either bought an original owner’s manual from him or perhaps someone else. I enjoyed the car but didn't put very many miles on it, keeping it at my weekend house in Michigan near South Bend. I had my mechanic in La Porte, IN, Dorman Garage, install new correct carpets, including the trunk, a period correct radio (I think it's a Becker) that I bought from Europe and the headlight covers. I also had them change the AC compressor to a Japanese one which works much better, but the old York compressor comes with the car.Because I had some difficulty shifting, I sent the car to my friend Greg Jones in FL, another top Ferrari mechanic and also one of the top judges, who rebuilt the transmission and corrected a problem with the clutch cable - the car now shifts beautifully; better than my 330 GTC. The reason I'm selling the 365 is that I don't need two V-12 cars, although I'm thinking about getting a Dino as I mentioned. Greg also put in correct door and trunk rubber and repaired the gauges so all of them work. He also fixed the clock! He also put in a new exhaust system and correct hangers. When I decided to use the car on the GTTSR, I had him source and install a rebuilt radiator. The car didn't overheat at all, even when he was testing it in Florida. I also had Greg handle getting Classiche certification from Ferrari. When inspecting and adjusting the valves noticed the cams that had been recondition many years ago where not holding up. We decided to install new megacycle cam shafts and rocker arm bushing, pins and rollers, as well as ball type tappet screws. When Greg was doing that, he also painted the cam covers and air cleaner with the correct crackle finish.I sent the car back to Greg after the rally. He replaced the windshield (I picked up a chip from that one stretch of the rally that had gravel), cleaned the car inside and out, including the wheels, fixed the ignition switch (you’ll recall that I broke the key on the first day of the rally) and tightened everything down. And as well as fresh oil change.In summary, the engine and transmission of this car and many other systems were rebuilt by two of the top Ferrari guys in the U.S. (Wayne Obry knows them both), it has a lot of new and correct equipment including the carpet, tires and camshafts, it has tools and a jack and I have all of the service records going back to 1987. And everything on it worked and performed flawlessly at high speed over 1,200 miles.

Production was hardly linear or sequential. Chassis F102AB *18227* was specifically production number 240 of 387 but sequentially by chassis number assignment the 242nd of the 387 examples built. This particular Ferrari 365GT4/BB was special ordered new by AutoBecker in Germany on behalf of a favored client. The order was processed and the vehicle given an official completion date of December 9th, 1974. The original color as ordered and completed new was a bright orange, designated "Rosso Dino 20-R-350” a color more commonly found on Dinos of the same vintage. While available as a standard catalog color, it is believed that this is the only early 365 BB Ferrari variant so completed.This is a very early and more desirable Series III example. It was the 5th of just 149 Series III 365GT/4 BB Boxers completed. These all featured a variety of improvements and refinements that solved and sorted out the earlier design issues and flaws of those built previously. Most noticeably was an improvement in handling and braking as well as overall reliability. Chassis F102AB *18227* was assembled and assigned engine sequence No. 250 with “Numero Interno” case numbers 123 and individually stamped with engine No. "F102A000 *00254*” which it retains to this day. The gearbox assigned was No. “ZF228” which further confirms it was fitted from new with a ZF limited slip differential which it still retains to this day, i.e., “matching numbers” engine and gearbox. In January of 1975 this vehicle was delivered new to AutoBecker at “Suitbertusstrasse 150 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Shortly thereafter in early 1975, It was sold and road registered in Germany and remained so until the Spring of 1977 when it was again back with AutoBecker. Sometime shortly thereafter this Ferrari, now painted a more standard Red with Black Boxer Trim was sold and purchased by the official Japanese Ferrari importer and distributor Cornes Motors Corporation Ltd., of Tokyo, Japan. It was officially imported into Japan in June of 1977 at which time it had recored 19,100 kilometers. In July of 1977, Japanese Road Registration Authorities assigned the vehicle the Japanese control number 43 7219 and issued it new Japanese title and road registration with plates "399-5941.” This Ferrari Boxer would remain un-driven and on display and offered for sale by Cornes Motors for the next twelve years until it was finally sold on March 14th, 1989 to Mr. Kazuai Umemura’s Private Museum Collection. Japanese DMV records confirm that on January 11th, 2012, total recorded mileage was now 35,300. A year and a half later, on July 30th, 2014, total mileage was recorded as 35,400. On September 18th, 2015 the date of our purchase and the cancellation of the Japanese road registration, total mileage was 35,550 kilometers. (22,000 miles.)After arrival in the States, a new title and road registration was applied for and approved and issued to our company. Over the next 14 months, this Ferrari received a complete engine and gearbox out full set or services including the ever so important belt service. The carburetors were completely overhauled as was the air-conditioning system, braking system and cooling system. The entire suspension and braking system was completely overhauled and new tires were fitted at all four corners. This is a completely rust and accident free example that retains all of the rare early Ferrari 365BB features that set these examples far and apart from the later production 512BB and 512BBi models. The original and correct “Mushroom” seats, correctly part numbered ANSA "Tripple-Tip" exhaust system, hard “headliner” with sun shades are just a few of these features. Chassis No. F102AB *18227* is an extremely rare original “survivor” with a completely original and never restored interior. All date coded items such as the original KONI shocks front and rear still have the correct 1974 assembly date codes. Other than the interesting original delivery color, it would very hard to near impossible to find a more correct original or lower mileage surviving example.
