The formula is simple: take a modern, lightweight chassis, wrap it in high-quality, tight-fitting fiberglass, plant a hot Ford V8 between the fenders and enjoy whiplash-inducing performance. Built, polished and ready to roar, this Mark III roadster combines cool Shelby looks with all the right hardware to turn your knuckles white with excitement! Best of all, it's a fully sorted, turnkey package that's available to you for a fraction of the time and money someone else spent building it. If you've been searching for the perfect car to maximize your dollar-to-thrill ratio, welcome to your next classic! BODYWORK/TRIM Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, showcasing the typically tight tolerances that have become a Factory Five hallmark, lays excellent groundwork for a wet looking coat of Ford Tungsten Gray 2-stage. Since pretty much every Cobra worth its salt needs to have some kind of war paint, the builder blended a classy pair of bright silver racing stripes. And today, this super slick Cobra is a sophisticated classic that exhibits twice the style and twice the race-bred DNA of a typical replicar boulevard cruiser. Speaking of sophistication, crude detailing is often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this roadster, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, polished quick lifts reflect chrome-trimmed headlights, bullet-style parking lamps and a requisite Shelby emblem. Behind that emblem, a scooped, 1-piece hood flows to stainless-trimmed glass that's seated between polished wipers and Factory Five wind wings. Below those wings, finned air extractors, a bullet-style racing mirror and small "POWERED BY FORD" emblems float amid coated side pipes and a familiar Monza fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a chrome roll bar, a second Shelby emblem, two more quick lifts and a lockable trunk handle. ENGINE When the original Cobra stormed the scene, team Shelby's mantra was all performance, all the way. And, while many reproductions hit the ground as sedate street cruisers, serious road chops require serious motor. Bored and stroked to a whopping 408 cubic inches, this roadster's serious chops come in the form of a spry, 351 cubic inch Windsor V8. The mean mill's energy mixture is supplied by a big Holley carburetor, which is sandwiched between an Edelbrock intake and traditional Cobra air cleaner. That mixture travels in to Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, which hang Cobra-branded valve covers and a Ford Racing breather over high quality roller rockers and forged Keith Black pistons. Combustion comes courtesy of a balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly, which is framed by a cast Eagle crank and Comp Xtreme Energy cam. The fires stay lit thanks to MSD 6AL ignition, an MSD distributor, a Pertronix coil and loomed Ford Racing plug wires. That fire is kept in check by a beefy aluminum radiator, which is mated to a big electric puller fan. A modern serpentine system spins a rebuilt alternator above an aluminum water pump while spent gases are cycled through ceramic-coated headers. And first rate details, like ARP bolts, stainless fluid lines and a liquid-filled Jegs fuel pressure gauge, ensure this classic is more than just a random curbside attraction. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget about outdated Toploader 4-speeds because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Tremec TKO600 5-speed. That world-class transmission utilizes a tough hydraulic clutch to spin a fresh, 8.8-inch Ford Racing pumpkin, which is fitted with 3.73 gears and high quality Moser axles. That drivetrain rides in a tubular, fabricated steel chassis that distills into a modern, multi-link suspension. That suspension is connected to four big calipers, which squeeze four vented discs. At the front of the car's aluminum floor, modern rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed cruising almost as easy as high-speed sweeps. Power meets the pavement through attractive Halibrand-style wheels, which twist 255/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 315/35ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs. And items like a deep-sump oil pan and clean Edelbrock fuel components round out the car's impressive build. INTERIOR Cobra interiors have always been stylish and simple, and one look inside this roadster reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being driver-focused. Sculpted seats stretch tight vinyl hides under 4-point Simpson safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a super clean dash founds classy telemetry beside a custom-engraved Cobra logo. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors hang polished poppers behind requisite leather straps. Below those doors, clean carpet centers a booted e-brake and small shifter between Wilwood foot pedals and color-keyed Factory Five floor mats. The driver feels the asphalt through a polished steering wheel, which twists an authentic wood rim around a red, white and blue Cobra logo. And the passenger stows cargo in a spacious trunk that's fitted with a custom-engraved battery box. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING ACCESSORIESA cockpit cover With classic looks, a killer engine and a fully sorted, road-ready chassis, this awesome Cobra provides unmatched thrills for an unmatched price. It's the latest in our string of high quality Shelbys that look just as good as originals while benefitting from modern technology and 21st century build techniques. That means Cobra enthusiasts don't have to look very hard to find a great variety of components and aftermarket support. Unfortunately, the amount of time and money involved in vetting those parts and building a ground-up custom becomes simply mind-boggling. Enthusiasts sometimes spend years writing check after check to shop after shop creating a car that, by the time it's finished, some of them don't even want. That's where your friends at RK Motors Charlotte come in. You can literally walk right in to our showroom and choose the Cobra of your dreams for about half of its assembly cost. And because we actively search for the best cars on the market, you can rest assured that you're getting a top-notch classic. Decked in vivid 2-stage and supple leather, this impressive roadster pairs a 302 cubic inch Ford V8 with a tough Borg Warner 5-speed and fully custom suspension. Want an over-the-top hot rod that's a blast to show and even more fun to drive? Forget 6-figures and three years of wait time, come claim this cool Copper Cobra! BODYWORK/TRIM Okay, okay... "Copper" might've been a bit of a stretch for the sake of catchy alliteration. But it's certainly a fair assessment of a color that PPG technically calls Vibrant Nutmeg. That pigment shines between Pewter racing stripes and a clean fiberglass body that, in the summer of 2015, was completely worked by Cobra expert Bill Jordan. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Jordan appeared on an episode of South Beach Classics. And if this roadster looks 'showroom fresh', it's because the car has logged less than 100 miles since its completion. At the front of its body, a sculpted nose hangs polished quick lifts and requisite mesh grilles between halogen headlights and chrome-trimmed, bullet-style marker lamps. A sculpted hood anchors an integrated scoop in front of chrome latches. Behind that hood, a chrome-trimmed windshield hangs a small mirror between of clear wind wings, polished wipers and dark-tint visors. At the sides of the car, chrome exhaust pipes frame stylish 427 emblems, aluminum air extractors and a familiar, Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, a 2-inch stainless roll bar leads the eye to chrome-trimmed taillights, a locking trunk and two more polished quick lifts. ENGINE 'Keep it simple' is a good philosophy when it comes to performance and reliability. And the builders of this clean classic did exactly that by equipping the car with Ford's storied, 302 cubic inch small block. At the top of the fully sorted mill, a petite, polished air cleaner funnels oxygen in to a coated Summit carburetor. That juice box rides between polished fuel lines, a clean Summit intake and an MSD Pro-Billet distributor that flames loomed Summit Street & Strip plug wires. That intake pushes air and fossils through factory Ford heads, which balance chrome valve covers under chrome breathers. In front of those covers, billet pulleys spin a fresh aluminum water pump between a Wilson alternator and coated mechanical fuel pump. At the front of those ancillaries, a heavy-duty puller fan cools an aluminum, high capacity radiator. And speaking of keeping things cool, thermal-wrapped headers join an insulated cowl to benefit engine and passengers alike. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget outdated Toploaders because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Borg Warner 5-speed. That tough transmission twists a Driveshaft Specialist driveshaft, which spins a 9-inch Ford axle. That drivetrain, bolted to a modern, powder-coated chassis, rolls a high performance independent front and 4-link rear suspension, which benefits from tubular control arms and fully adjustable coil-overs. Authentic track feel is maintained by manual rack-and-pinion steering. Brakes are vented discs at all four corners. And there's simply nothing that looks better on a Cobra than a set of Halibrand-style wheels, which spin sticky 235/60R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts in front of aggressive 295/50R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts. INTERIOR Open the car's small doors and you'll find a classy cockpit that's a bit more luxurious and roomier than typical Cobra fodder. Bomber-style seats wear pleated, stitched and embroidered leather under 4-point safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a painted and upholstered dash founds clean, white-face telemetry under a small rearview mirror. At the sides of that dash, the aforementioned doors hang pleated panels in front of chrome latches. The driver feels the asphalt through metal foot pedals, a small, billet-topped shifter, and a polished and wood-trimmed steering wheel. And the passenger stows cargo in a carpeted and leather-lined trunk. Seductive, carefully assembled and ready to give you the ride of your life, this Cobra is sure to satisfy anyone who has a pulse! Why waste valuable time and money waiting on a custom build when we have an array of top-notch roadsters finished, sorted and ready to roll? Grab the phone, schedule an appointment and drive off with your next classic! About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. And FFR's latest roadster, officially termed the MK4, is poised to continue the firm's trade of producing the best selling, best-engineered and best-performing replicas of all time. At face value, the formula is simple: take a modern, lightweight chassis, wrap it in high-quality, tight-fitting fiberglass, plant a hot Ford V8 between the fenders and enjoy whiplash-inducing performance. But, as all car enthusiasts know, simplicity and reliability are only achieved through planning and precision. BODYWORK/TRIM Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, modeled on two well-known Shelby classics, is a 1-piece, hand-laid Vinylester shell that was laminated to 3/16ths, CNC trimmed and covered in a .015-inch gel coat. That gel lays excellent groundwork for wet looking Metallic Blue 2-stage. Since pretty much every Cobra worth its salt needs some kind of war paint, the builder added a classy pair of Pewter racing stripes. And today, this super slick roadster is a head-turning classic that's ready for the track, the boulevard or the show! Speaking of sophistication, crude detailing is often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this MK4, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, polished overriders reflect chrome-trimmed headlights, bullet-style parking lamps and a requisite Shelby emblem. Behind that emblem, a scooped, 1-piece hood flows to chrome-trimmed glass that's seated between polished wipers and Factory Five wind wings. Behind those wings, an accessory hardtop fits well over a polished roll bar. Below that top, aluminum air extractors, a bullet-style racing mirror and small "427" emblems float amid polished side pipes and a familiar LeMans fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a polished oval bumper and two more polished overriders. ENGINE When the original Cobra stormed the scene, team Shelby's mantra was all performance, all the way. And, while many reproductions hit the ground as sedate street cruisers, serious road chops require serious motor. Stroked to a whopping 392 cubic inches, this roadster's serious chops come in the form of a spry Ford Racing small block. The mean mill's energy mixture is supplied by a big Holley carburetor, which is sandwiched between a traditional Cobra air cleaner, a chrome Holley regulator and an aluminum Motorsport intake. That mixture travels in to free breathing aluminum heads, which hang Cobra-branded valve covers and a Ford Racing breather over coated stainless headers. The fires stay lit thanks to MSD 6AL ignition, which jolts a traditional distributor, an MSD Blaster 2 coil and loomed Ford Racing plug wires. That fire is kept in check by a beefy aluminum radiator, which is mated to stainless water tubes and a big electric puller fan. A billet serpentine drive spins a polished, 1-wire alternator above an aluminum water pump. And first rate details, like trick dipsticks, a polished expansion tank, stainless fuel lines, a Jegs throttle linkage and a liquid-filled Jegs pressure gauge, ensure this classic is more than just a random curbside attraction. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget about outdated Toploader 4-speeds because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Tremec 5-speed. That world-class transmission utilizes a Tremec twin-disc clutch to spin a fresh, 8.8-inch pumpkin, which is fitted with 3.73 gears and a posi-traction differential. That drivetrain rides in a fabricated steel chassis that distills a 4-inch DOM frame into modern independent front and 3-link rear suspensions. Those suspensions, which make good use of tubular control arms and Koni coli-over-shocks, are connected to four big calipers that squeeze four drilled discs. At the front of the car's aluminum floor, modern rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed cruising almost as easy as high-speed sweeps. Power meets the pavement through attractive OE Racing wheels, which twist 245/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 315/35R17 Nitto NT555R Extreme Drags. And details like a deep-sump oil pan and color-keyed fender coating round out the car's impressive build. INTERIOR Cobra interiors have always been stylish and simple, and one look inside this roadster reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being driver-focused. British-style bucket seats stretch tight leather hides under 5-point Simpson safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a wrapped dash hangs Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry between a small fire extinguisher and pedestal-mount mirror. That means Cobra enthusiasts don't have to look very hard to find a great variety of aftermarket support, and that makes it pretty easy to build a roadster any way they like it. The problem then becomes the amount of time and money that such a massive undertaking requires. After spending years writing check after check to shop after shop, the enthusiast finally gets to enjoy a car that, by that point in time, they might not even want. Fortunately, there is a better solution! Why not let your friends at RK Motors Charlotte sell you a top-notch custom like this killer Factory Five stroker for half the price, and a fraction of the time, of building it yourself? BODYWORK/TRIM Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, showcasing the typically tight tolerances that have become a Factory Five hallmark, lays excellent groundwork for a wet looking coat of glossy PPG Copperhead Pearl 2-stage. That 2-stage was applied at a professional finishing shop as part of a 2-year assembly that wrapped up in late 2005. Since Copperhead Pearl is always best when mixed with something else, the car's slick profile was detailed with Sherman Williams White Pearl stripes. And today, this super slick Cobra is a race-bred street king that's puts a refreshing twist on a timeless American classic. Detailing is crucial on a replica because that's where a lot of cars start to disappoint. Fortunately, you can tell the overall impression of one of these Cobras from about five feet away. And naturally, since were featuring it, this roadster hits all the right visuals! At the front of the car, a sculpted nose hangs a Dark Water Customs air splitter between satin quick lifts, mesh grilles and Cobra Valley Crystalite headlights. A sculpted hood anchors an integrated scoop between locking latches and billet Anvil Auto pins. Behind that hood, a stainless-trimmed windshield hangs a small mirror in front of clear wind wings and dark-tint visors. At the sides of the car, Satin Black exhaust pipes frame stylish 427 emblems, Finishline air extractors and a familiar, Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, a polished roll bar leads the eye to chrome-trimmed taillights, a locking trunk and two more satin quick lifts. ENGINE Great looks are only part of this Cobra's appeal: it also does a very good job of going really fast and making lots of awesome noise! Remove the car's tidy hood and you'll find a 347 cubic inch Ford stroker motor that utilizes a cast SCAT crank, forged SCAT rods, Keith Black hypereutectic pistons and a custom-grind hydraulic roller cam to churn big horsepower into ample torque. At the top of the balanced and blueprinted mill, a familiar Cobra air cleaner funnels wind in to a 1,200cfm Accel throttle body that's cinched to an Edelbrock Victor EFI intake. That intake is wired to 30 lb./hr. injectors, which siphon a Holley 250 pump, 6AN fluid lines and Edelbrock fuel rails. At the front of those rails, an Accel Dual Sync distributor utilizes Accel DFI 6A ignition and thick MSD Super Conductor plug wires to sequentially fire eight massive cylinders. Those cylinders combust under Dart Pro1 heads, which hide Chromoly pushrods, ARP bolts and Comp Pro Magnum roller rockers under a polished breather and Ford Racing valve covers. At the sides of those covers, coated Ford Racing headers feed high-flow Factory Five cats and stainless DNA mufflers. At the front of those headers, roller timing components back a billet March accessory drive, which spins a rebuilt alternator at the side of a reverse-rotation water pump. And that pump feeds a custom Tri-State Motorsports radiator, which fronts a large electric puller fan and Zoops expansion tank. Electronically, fresh American Autowire wiring works with Accel DFI Thruster EFI engine management to ensure miles of smiles. And niceties like Clevite bearings, Hastings rings, a Melling oil pump and a Forte's dual master cylinder add to the car's form and function. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot small block, a poly-mounted, McLeod- shrouded Tremec TKII 5-speed pairs a steel Ford Motorsport flywheel with a Weber clutch and Centerforce pressure plate. That tough transmission spins a custom Forte's driveshaft, which is hooked to a spry Ford 8.8-inch axle stuffed with 3.27 gears. That axle pushes a Factory Five 3-link that's outfitted with Koni coil-overs, a Vintage Performance Motorcars sway bar and a Vintage Performance Motorcars banana bracket. Opposite that rear end, an independent front-half hangs tubular control arms and two more Koni coil-overs between SN-95 Mustang spindles and a second Vintage Performance Motorcars sway bar. That suspension is guided by ATSCO power rack-and-pinion steering, which mixes a Flaming River lower shaft and Breeze Automotive bushings with Whitby's FAI modification and Forte's bump steer elimination. Stops come courtesy of manual disc brakes, which pair aluminum PBR calipers with two 13-inch drilled and slotted rotors and two 11.65-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Power meets the pavement through anthracite Bullitt wheels, which twist 255/40ZR17 Nitto NT05 street radials in front of 315/35ZR17 Nitto NT05 drag radials. And items like a high-torque mini starter, a custom driveshaft hoop, a quality Canton oil pan and a Trick Flow differential cover round out the car's impressive build. INTERIOR Take one look at the accompanying specs sheet and you'll see that this roadster was built to keep. And even though its cockpit still honors the purist nature of a no-nonsense, track-shredding sports car, many well-planned details ratchet up both comfort and appeal. Lightweight Kirkey seats stretch tight leather hides under heavy-duty safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a super clean dash founds reliable Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite telemetry between a 12-volt outlet, two brake proportioning knobs and a self-canceling Russ Thompson turn signal switch. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors hang Herb's custom panels inside Dark Water Customs sill trim. Below those doors, custom Loop Carpet anchors a North Racecars e-brake and Pro-5.0 shifter between a custom-dropped foot box and piped Factory Five floor mats. At the center of that carpet, a custom console balances stainless cupholders beneath crisp Alpine Type-S speakers. The driver feels the asphalt through a polished steering wheel, which laps assorted Russ Thompson foot pedals. The passenger stows cargo in a carpeted trunk, which balances a modern Alpine CD player opposite a brand new, billet-cinched Optima battery. And high quality Second Skin insulation works with power-operated Cobra Earl's foot box vents to combat the big engine's heat. From seven-figure originals to fiberglass replicas, the word "Cobra" can represent anything from a sinuous boulevard cruiser to a hardcore track star. With that in mind, every dynasty has a Sultan, and, for the Cobra, that Sultan is a classic like this awesome 427-powered roadster. A professionally built, turnkey stormer, this road-ready beast combines killer looks and excellent build quality with a level of performance that's tailor-made for highly skilled drivers. If you're searching for a quick twist on an old favorite, forget about project cars pieced together from leftovers. And forget about sloppy replica builds that shame their fabled predecessors. Call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte and pick up this razor-sharp snake! BODYWORK/TRIM Commissioned by Shelby American of Las Vegas, Nevada, CSX-4064 wears virtually flawless fiberglass that mixes great fit with a noise-free driving experience. Stiffly reinforced body panels feature the smooth surfaces and typically tight gaps we've come to expect from top-notch customs. The car's excellent finish is a testament to both OEM quality and the true talent and vision of its original builder. And, while few classics strike a perfect balance of outrageous looks, serious performance and excellent attention to detail, this Cobra's timeless red, white and blue aesthetics create a simply irresistible curve carver! Since the car is authentic enough to be listed in the Shelby American World Registry, you can rest assured that every aspect of this nouveau roadster enhances the original Cobra's innate style and appeal. At the front of its body, chrome-trimmed headlights and bullet-style parking lamps frame a classy Shelby emblem and Satin Black bumperettes. Behind that emblem, a lightweight hood centers a functional scoop in front of small wipers, tinted visors, chrome-trimmed glass and "COBRA" branded wind wings. Below those wings, coated side-pipes complement traditional 427 emblems, finned air extractors and a requisite Monza fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a chrome roll bar, a second Shelby emblem, two more bumperettes and a lockable trunk handle. ENGINE Striking a pose is only one of this Cobra's skills; it also does a very good job of going fast and making a lot of noise! Built by Southern Automotive Engines of McDonough, Georgia, and installed by Finishline Motorsports of Las Vegas, Nevada, the car's balanced and blueprinted 427 features an increased stroke that nets a whopping 462 cubic inches of Ford power! At the top of that buff power source, a Stellings & Hellings air cleaner feeds a coated Holley 4150 carburetor that's tethered to a lightweight aluminum intake. At the sides of that carburetor, high performance Edelbrock heads ride below chrome "427 FORD COBRA" valve covers. Beneath those heads, a 4-inch stroke crank combines with a Crane cam, Manley H-beam rods and custom, forged pistons to create stout 10.2 to 1 compression. That compression gets sparked by Accel Hi-Temp Super Stock Spiral Core wires, which snake to a Motorcraft distributor that's wired to a hot MSD ignition system. Beneath those wires, application-specific headers roll charred dinosaurs in to the aforementioned side pipes. And in front of those headers, a big Fluidyne radiator circulates water around a large puller fan and painted overflow tank. You'll be happy to know that the clean V8 has been properly seated in a satin aluminum bay. And you'll be excited to see details, like hard fluid lines, a remote oil filter and chrome dress-up items, that round out a very impressive engine display. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION One of the best things about buying a high quality replica is the modern hardware underneath. Much sturdier than original Cobra fodder, this Shelby's ladder-style chassis and fully independent suspension are clean, lucid and ready to hit the road. Behind the engine, a rugged Toploader 4-speed jerks a Dana 44 rear end, which turns a limited-slip differential around mild, 3.54 gears. Those gears are countered by four manual calipers, which squeeze four solid discs. At the front of the car, old school manual steering provides an authentic driving experience. Power meets the pavement through familiar Trigo pin drives, which twist two 245/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As, and two 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As, around steel-winged knock-offs. And items like stainless fluid lines, adjustable coil-over-shocks and a deep-sump Canton oil pan provide the best of both form and function. INTERIOR Cobra interiors are usually stalwart and simple, but this roadster's lush leather cockpit is comfortable and appealing. Well-padded seats are firm, look as good as new and feature heavy duty Simpson harnesses for increased safety. In front of those seats, a color-keyed dash hangs a tight leather faade around a small mirror and a clean combination of Smiths and Lucas gauges. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors are dressed in soft inserts and chrome handles. Below those doors, black carpet floats "COBRA" branded floor mats between a chrome hand brake, a chrome shifter, and Optima battery and a small fire extinguisher. In front of the driver, a wood-rimmed steering wheel spins highly polished spokes around a "COBRA" branded horn button. And behind the passengers, an aluminum-trimmed trunk hides ample space for cargo. With classic looks, a killer engine and a fully sorted chassis, this awesome roadster provides unmatched thrills for an unmatched price. It's the latest in our string of high quality Cobras that combine vintage style with modern technology and 21st century build techniques. Need proof? Check out all those dual-quad Impalas and Sting Ray roadsters that routinely pull 6-figure prices simply because they exist. That begs the question: how do you get breakneck performance that's wrapped in a jaw-dropping shell without draining your kid's college fund? Well, you take a serious look at a gem like this fantastic Backdraft Racing Cobra! A modern spin on a timeless sports car, this roadster mixes 427 cubic inches of Roush Performance stroker with a tough Tremec 5-speed, BMW suspension components and crowd-pleasing aesthetics. If you're in the market for a storied classic that's destined to lead the pack, you've found your pride and joy! BODYWORK/TRIM From inception, Backdraft cars are turnkey products developed and engineered to mimic the vintage appeal of authentic aluminum Cobras while handily out-performing pretty much anything on the street. The assembly of this roadster's professionally finished body began with a steel-lined GRP molding that was hand-tweaked and gel coated on a full-size rotisserie rack. Once that coating was complete, the newly formed fuselage was smoothed by a seasoned fiberglass professional, baked in an even coat of primer and inspected top-to-bottom to ensure first-class quality. When quality control was cleared, clean PPG white was detailed with Indigo Blue stripes, covered in three layers of ChemSpec clear, baked and cured for three days, and finally, flattened and polished to a head-turning shine. And today, this super slick Cobra is a sophisticated build that exhibits twice the style and twice the race-bred DNA of a typical replicar boulevard cruiser. Detailing is crucial on a replica because that's where a lot of cars start to disappoint. Fortunately, you can tell the overall impression of one of these roadsters from about five feet away. And naturally, since were featuring it, this Cobra hits all the right visuals! At the front of the car, a sculpted and re-angled nose hangs chrome-trimmed Hella headlights over mesh grilles, clear, bullet-style parking lamps and polished quick lifts. A sculpted hood anchors a small, ROUSH-branded scoop in front of locking latches and polished windshield wipers. Behind that hood, a tinted windshield hangs a small Backdraft Racing mirror in front of clear wind wings, dark-tint visors, a polished roll bar and a familiar, Monza-style fuel filler. At the sides of the car, polished and shielded exhaust pipes ride below stylish Ford emblems, finned air extractors and 3M quarter guards. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed tail lamps combine with a chrome tag light to illuminate a locking trunk handle and two more polished quick lifts. ENGINE This roadster's signage accurately advertises 427 cubic inches of American muscle. What it fails to convey is: instead of some romantic relic from a bygone era, would-be challengers are facing a fresh Roush Performance 427 R stroker motor that, during its 2010 dyno run, twisted 537 horsepower into 518 lb./ft. of torque! Built from the ground up as your ticket to major acceleration and killer speed, this stout mill is founded on an iron block, a steel crank, a roller cam, H-beam connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. At the top of the smooth engine, a Roush Cobra Jet-style air cleaner mixes fresh oxygen with 93-octane pump gas that's supplied by braided fluid lines and a large Holley 4-barrel. That carburetor is bolted to an Edelbrock Victor Jr. 351W intake, which rides between aluminum, CNC-ported heads and sequential Roush valve covers. Fire is provided by an MSD Blaster SS coil, which is connected to an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and loomed Roush 9mm plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a screened radiator, which circulates water past a large electric puller fan and polished stainless overflow via polished stainless tubes and a coated pump. Ceramic-coated mild steel headers evacuate spent gases into 304 stainless side-pipes. And at the front of the block, a beefy serpentine system spins billet pulleys in front of a polished Powermaster alternator and polished power steering pump. Aesthetically, the hot engine looks right at home in the car's mirror-like bay. And well-planned details, like a chrome breather, a coated fuel pump and a beefy QuickTime bellhousing, are both functional and appealing. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget about outdated Toploader 4-speeds because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Tremec TKO600 5-speed. That world-class transmission delivers power to a 3.46 limited-slip BMW rear end that creates whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car to loaf along at highway speeds. That drivetrain, which is bolted to a hot-rolled rectangular steel ladder-type chassis, sends power through the same BMW-sourced MacPherson strut front and fully independent rear suspension that's become a Backdraft hallmark. And thanks to that suspension's adjustable front stabilizer bar, fully adjustable rear ride height and BMW power steering system, you're getting a Cobra that has a performance threshold capable of humiliating much more expensive hardware. Brakes are power-assisted discs at all four corners that, thanks to this car's featherweight construction, are virtually impervious to fade. And there's simply nothing that looks better on a Cobra than a set of Halibrand-style wheels, which spin sticky 245/40ZR17 Goodyear Eagle F1s in front of aggressive 315/35ZR17 Goodyear Eagle F1s. INTERIOR Cobra interiors have always been simple, and one look inside this roadster reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being driver-focused. Backdraft Racing buckets stretch tight leather hides between 4-point Crow Enterprizes harnesses. In front of those seats, a leather-wrapped dash founds electric VDO telemetry above metal Backdraft Racing foot pedals. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors hang blue-stitched pulls above small map pockets. Below those doors, clean carpet centers a polished e-brake and polished Backdraft Racing shifter between color-keyed Backdraft Racing floor mats. The driver stays connected to the asphalt thanks to a polished Backdraft Racing wheel, which twists a thick Teak rim. And the passengers' cargo stows in a carpeted trunk that's fitted with an integrated trickle charger. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIESA Backdraft Racing build bookRoush Performance engine specsAn official Roush Performance dyno sheetA pair of Backdraft Racing fender coversA full tonneau cover There simply aren't that many chances to own a first class sport car especially at this money. And with its euro-spec chassis, modern 5-speed and Roush-designed engine, this Cobra is guaranteed to be a blast to drive. If you're looking to add a little fire to your arsenal, just open the garage and unleash this Backdraft! About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. From six-figure originals to fiberglass replicas, the word "Cobra" can represent anything from a sinuous boulevard cruiser to a hardcore track star. With that in mind, every dynasty has a Sultan, and, for the Cobra, that Sultan is a classic like this outrageous Roush Yates-powered roadster. A professionally built, turnkey stormer, this track-ready beast combines killer looks and excellent build quality with a level of performance that's tailor-made for highly skilled drivers. If you're searching for a quick twist on an old favorite, forget about project cars pieced together from leftovers. And forget about sloppy replica builds that shame their fabled predecessors. Call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte and pick up this razor-sharp snake. But be warned: this isn't the kind of car that's comfortable pulling 10 MPH passes at the local Dairy Queen. BODYWORK/TRIM Starting life at Venom Custom Fabrications, this super slick roadster wears virtually flawless fiberglass that mixes great fit with a noise-free driving experience. Stiffly reinforced body panels feature the smooth surfaces and typically tight gaps we've come to expect from top-notch aftermarket suppliers. The car's excellent finish is a testament to both OEM quality and the true talent and vision of its current owner. And, while few classics strike a perfect balance of outrageous looks, serious performance and excellent attention to detail, this Cobra's timeless black and gold pigment creates a simply irresistible curve carver! Speaking of details, they're often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this roadster, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, familiar bumperettes reflect chrome-trimmed headlights, bullet-style parking lamps and a classy Shelby emblem. Behind that emblem, a scooped hood flows to stainless-trimmed glass that's seated between small wipers, tinted visors and clear wind wings. Below those wings, a bullet-style racing mirror complements finned air extractors, polished and shielded side pipes, and a requisite Monza fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a chrome roll bar, a second Shelby emblem, two more bumperettes and a lockable trunk handle. ENGINE Twist this Cobra's chrome hood locks and you'll find a NASCAR-spec, Roush Yates-built D3 Ford 358 that, in 2011, twisted 750 dyno-proven horsepower into 543 lb./ft. of torque! And, if you know anything about NASCAR, you know about the brutal V8 wizardry that's quite literally propelled both Jack Roush and Robert Yates to extreme success. The beast feeds thanks to a big 4-barrel carburetor that rides between Earl's fluid lines, a Mr. Gasket pressure gauge and a K&N X-Stream air filter. Beneath that carb, an aluminum Edelbrock intake feeds Roush Yates heads, which are sandwiched between aluminum valve covers and wrapped, long-tube headers. At the front of that intake, a Crane distributor sequences fire through thick Champion Power Boost plug wires. Charge for that fire is provided a complete MSD HVC ignition system. Spark for that charge is provided by a small alternator, which, along with a massive water pump, spins on fresh V-belts. Lubrication comes courtesy of Peterson dry-sump components. A heavy duty aluminum radiator makes good use of a giant puller fan and polished overflow tank. There's a complete NOS nitrous system, in case you want to turn 'scary' into 'insane'. And the car's minimalist aluminum engine bay is nice and clean, featuring a painted hood, mirrored inner fenders and pertinent chassis identification. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION One of the best things about buying a high quality replica is the modern hardware underneath. MIG welded, TIG welded and completely powder-coated, this Shelby's Jig-made, ladder-style chassis and independent, BMW-style suspension are fully sorted and ready to hit the toughest track you can find. Behind the engine, a rugged Tremec 5-speed jerks a 4.25-inch Quarter Master Race Clutch, which is fed by a small Tilton fluid reservoir. All that jerking eventually makes its way to a modern rear end that's stuffed with stout, tire-chirping gears. Those gears are countered by power-assisted calipers, which squeeze four drilled and slotted discs. At the front of the car, fluid rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed parking almost as easy as high speed sweeps. Power meets the pavement through attractive Halibrand-style knock-offs, which twist 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And items like a beefy sway bar, Penske racing shocks, braided fluid lines and a passenger-friendly 92-inch wheelbase round out an already impressive track warrior. INTERIOR Cobra interiors are usually stalwart and simple, but this roadster's Beige leather cockpit is comfortable and appealing. Well-padded seats are firm, look as good as new and feature heavy duty Simpson harnesses for increased safety. In front of those seats, a color-keyed dash hangs a tight leather faade around a small mirror, a combination of Spek and VDO gauges, and controls for the car's rarely used nitrous system. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors are dressed in soft inserts, big map pockets and chrome handles. Below those doors, piped carpet floats premium floor mats between a chrome shifter, a chrome fire extinguisher, AC foot pedals and a satin hand brake. In front of the driver, a wood-rimmed steering wheel spins highly polished spokes around an "AC" branded horn button. And behind the passengers, a carpeted trunk hides a large nitrous tank opposite a modern battery. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIESAn Owner's ManualA weather-free cockpit cover With classic looks, a killer engine and a fully sorted chassis, this awesome roadster provides unmatched thrills for an unmatched price. It's the latest in our string of high quality Cobras that look just as good as originals while benefitting from modern technology and 21st century build techniques. Don't miss your opportunity to own a turnkey track star that's just as nice as vintage, and probably WAY more fun to drive, at a fraction of the cost! How about this: take one custom, tube-frame chassis, wrap it in high-quality Antiques & Collectibles composite, and plant a 505 horsepower, twin turbo small block up front to incite whiplash-inducing acceleration. Priced for less than the cost of building one yourself, this exclusive Cobra is a car you can keep, drive and enjoy for years to come. In fact, this one-time prototype is so well engineered that it appeared in both Hot Rod Magazine and Kit Car Builder Magazine. And, when you factor in the added convenience of firing it up and driving it right out of our RK Motors Charlotte showroom, it becomes the ultimate classic for any enthusiast who wants a complete, road-ready package! HISTORY When Corky Bell set out to build the world's most high tech Cobra, he assembled a talented cast of gearheads and began what would eventually be called Project Mongoose. A career engineer turned SCCA racer, Bell had acquired quite a reputation captaining brands like Japanese GT Cars, CarTech and the Bell Experimental Group. And that reputation, perpetuated through vast involvement in many different facets of automobilia, created plenty of contacts with top designers and engineers. Work primarily focused on creating athletic mechanicals that bettered the classic Cobra driving experience, and creating a cockpit that would actually sell to someone over average height. Ultimately, the build combined many high quality aftermarket components with a twin turbo V8, 11 custom cast parts and a slick Antiques & Collectibles composite body. And today, wearing a screaming coat of Bright Yellow urethane, the car rolls as a virtually timeless hot rod that looks like a 10 and drives like an 11! ENGINE Tilt the louvered hood and you'll find a professionally built Ford Windsor block that's been bored and stroked to 385 cubic inches. Churning 505 rear wheel horsepower into 540 lb./ft. of pavement-scorching torque, that proven mill wraps an Eagle crank, Eagle rods, forged JE pistons and a Crower hydraulic cam in a full array of track-ready ancillaries. Conical air cleaners whip 7.5 psi of wind through stainless, TIG-welded tubes and proven Garrett T4 turbochargers. Fossils flow from twin Pierburg pumps to 52 lb./hr. fuel injectors. At the top of the Cast Silver mill, billet throttle bodies front a custom Bell Experimental Group upper intake and Trick Flow lower intake. The aforementioned air and fuel make their way to aluminum Canfield cylinder heads, which hide Crower aluminum rockers and Crower hydraulic lifters under monochromatic valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, Electromotive TEC3 engine management sequences fire through high quality Electromotive coil packs. As combustion is sparked, resultant gases are jettisoned through waterjet-cut, Heliarc-welded headers into 3-inch, Mandrel-bent side pipes that were supplied by Burns Stainless. That combustion's cooling is provided by a custom Ron Davis radiator, which stores water in front of quick-spinning electric puller fans. And high quality componentry, like a MOCAL oil cooler, a Canton Road Race oil pan and TiAL wastegates, paints a concise representation of a very skilled, systematic approach to defining "the world's most high tech Cobra". DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The best thing about this high quality, expertly built roadster is its ability to run circles around almost anything at the track. Take a look under the car and you'll find a rigid 2-inch square-tube frame that, in addition to providing 14-15K lb./ft. of deflection, places 57% of the car's weight over its rear axles. Numbers like that aren't mere coincidence, as Bell hired Ron Nash, the whiz formerly associated with Buick, Roush's Merkur program and Newman & Sharps Nissans, to design Project Mongoose's foundation. That monocoque-reinforced foundation makes good use of a Porsche G50/50 5-speed transaxle, which has been reversed, inverted and mounted between a custom driveshaft, a Porsche limited-slip differential and a familiar Centerforce clutch pack. Aside from providing excellent feel, that relatively modern transmission enables the car to achieve 60 MPH in first gear while being mild-mannered enough to chase freeway traffic in fifth. That incredible drivetrain rides on a fully independent suspension, which is fitted with Heim joints, Aldan coil-over-shocks and Woodward power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners of that suspension, Baer 4-piston calipers clamp big, slotted rotors to provide consistent, sure-footed stops that are all day strong, all day long. And power meets the pavement via 17-inch Team III alloys that spin fresh 245/40 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 275/40 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. INTERIOR Cobra interiors have always been simple, and one look inside the Mongoose reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being track-focused. Chopped Miata buckets stretch tight leather hides between 5-point Simpson safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a textured dash founds Racepak Data Systems telemetry above billet foot pedals that can be adjusted to the height of the driver in roughly an hour. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors frame steel intrusion bars in custom hinges and custom handles. Below those doors, clean carpet frames direct-mount seat brackets, which lower the driving position enough to accommodate operators up to 6'9" tall. That operator stays connected to the asphalt thanks to a leather-wrapped billet steering wheel and beefy Bell Experimental Group shifter. And the passengers' cargo stows in an aluminum-lined trunk that's fitted with an integrated battery cut-off. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATIONA couple of component manualsA copy of the car's feature in Kit Car Builder MagazineA copy of the car's feature in the April, 2006 edition of Hot Rod Magazine With its high quality build, killer small block and track ready drivetrain, this vivid Cobra wraps an unmatched driving experience in spectacular good looks. When it comes to replica cars, craftsmanship is the number one issue; and quality engineering on both the manufacturer and assembler side is crucial for a product that can persevere as long as you want to tear up the road. If you're looking for a reliable, fully sorted thrill machine that's just as happy on Main Street as it is on the race track, you've found your next car! [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1970 Ford Torino King Cobra Documented 1 of 2 Bud Moore Owned Torino King Cobra Prototype Boss 429 4 Speed Year: 1970 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Orange Mileage: 43325 Transmission type: 4 Speed Manual Engine: 429 V8 Interior color: Black Vehicle Info The fate of prototypes and test mules is often pretty grim. After countless miles of flogging, tuning, and more flogging yet, they're usually either banished to a dusty corner of the basement or crushed and forgotten entirely. To see a functional 43-year-old prototype is rare but to see one of this significance is truly special. The car is a 1970 Ford Torino King Cobra and it's one of just two original test cars known to exist. The product of a stillborn racing development program, the car features one-of-a-kind aerodynamic upgrades and a hot Boss 429 backed by a Toploader 4-speed. With links to legends like Holman & Moody and Bud Moore Engineering, the King Cobra is well known among Ford royalty and documented across many printed and online publications. If you're looking for the crown jewel for your Ford collection, this is the ultimate. To put the car into context, you have to travel back to the infamous NASCAR "Aero Wars" that took place during the 1969 and 1970 Grand National seasons. With GM on hiatus from racing, the competition between Ford and Chrysler grew to unprecedented levels. With the understanding that winning races equated to sales, both camps turned exotic experimentations in speed and aerodynamics. While Dodge fired the first shot with its Charger 500, Holman & Moody responded on Ford's behalf with the Torino Talladega a car that claimed the 1969 Daytona 500. By the next time the series visited Atlanta Motor Speedway, Mercury had rolled out its own version of the Talladega which they called the Cyclone Spoiler II. The new Ford designs certainly intensified the rivalry but it was the introduction of the Boss 429 that really forced the Mopar camp to step up. Their response? A mid-season knockout known as the Dodge Charger Daytona. Despite an impressive Mopar showing, David Pearson managed to lock up a second consecutive Grand National Championship, keeping Ford on top for the time being. Meanwhile, back in Dearborn, Larry Shinoda and company were busy designing an all-new aero warrior for the 1970 season. This one followed Mopar's sloped-nose vision but applied it to the new longer, wider, and sleeker Fairlane which, in turn, became the King Cobra. Powered by a 700hp variant of the Boss 429, the car showed promise during testing and, by all accounts, was poised to be a serious threat on the track. Unfortunately, the King Cobra's demise was already on the horizon. The car's main supporter, former Ford president Bunkie Knudsen, was fired and replaced by Lee Iacocca who wasted no time in slashing Ford's racing budget by 75 percent. Whatever remaining chance of survival the King Cobra had was reduced to zero by new NASCAR regulation designed to minimize the aero cars and even the overall playing field. If it weren't for NASCAR car owner Bud Moore, there's a good chance that neither this car nor its sibling would be around for us to admire today. The car's design studio clays were destroyed, fiberglass mock-ups of the nose were tucked away at Holman & Moody's shop, and the two running street prototypes (it's rumored that there are actually three cars) were relegated to use as Dearborn "gofer" cars. Moore spotted the King Cobras in 1971 while picking up several Mustangs for the upcoming SCCA season and, being a long-time Ford racer, used his influence to strike a deal on both cars. According to the original receipt, the pair set him back a mere $1,200!. One car was parked at his shop and the other had a damaged nose. And as the story goes, he replaced it with regular Torino sheet metal and eventually sold it to a police officer. As far as we know, the car became a daily driver. After a bit of online research, we did manage to locate the Yellow Torino at Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum, located in Sevierville, TN. The car seems to be in good health and hopefully many visitors of the museum will enjoy its NASCAR roots and heritage as much as we do. They say that legends don't die and, in the case of the blue King Cobra, that statement holds true. Some years later, Ford fanatics Steve Danielle and Dennis Roy were informed of an unusual Torino hull sitting in a South Carolina field. The car was reported to carry a '69-style data plate stamped X0-429-0058-3 as well as prototype stickers and Boss 429 shock towers. The combination was too interesting to pass up so the pair struck a deal and brought the Torino home. Restoration proved to be doubly difficult as they had to first figure out what exactly the car was and then find the ultra-rare pieces needed to complete it. Contacts in the Ford NASCAR world confirmed the car was formerly a King Cobra while other connections guided them towards to the original nose. Once the puzzle pieces were in place, efforts focused on the body. Sanding revealed a Vermillion base coat buried underneath several layers of paint, so the car was re-shot with that high-profile hue. Though the restoration has some age on it, the paint and body still show with confidence a true testament to the level at which the car was restored. Even in a showroom full of unique and amazing vehicles, the King Cobra stands out with ease. At least part of that can be accredited to its 17.5-ft length. Like its Mopar competitors, there is nothing small about the car. The sloped nose features two detachable panels that hide a pair of round headlights in a scooped configuration reminiscent of a Datsun 280Z. A slender chrome bumper fills the space between the nose and a lower grille section while two square turn signals and right-justified Ford lettering round out the hand-crafted front end. Despite that Datsun headlight comparison, there is no question that this bruiser is all Torino from the A-pillars back. The one unique addition to the package is the aforementioned convex rear glass found between those sloped C-pillars. Tests showed that, at high speeds, the stock concave piece caused unpredictable handling so the glass was shaped to help overall stability. Both the front and rear sport Carlite-stamped glass which reads "Prototype development tooling not to specification". As a prototype, this car was a rolling test bed for Ford products. While the car was delivered to Bud Moore's shop with a hot 460, that engine was neither the first nor last to be fitted into the car. By the time Danielle and Roy got to the car, that motor was long gone anyway. With the Boss 429 shock towers in place, the bay was practically begging for Shotgun power so that's exactly what you'll find in place today. The block carries a clean coat of blue paint and a C9AE-6015A casting number which designates it as a high performance 429. The foundation is topped with aluminum heads which frame the combination of C9AE 9425-D aluminum dual plane intake and a single Holley four barrel. Dress is provided by a blue single snorkel air cleaner assembly with a chrome lid while black Boss 429 valve covers carry the famous Holman & Moody logo. From the power steering pump and power brake assembly to the windshield wiper motor on the firewall, all the makings of a comfortable driver are present and period correct. Details like the Autolite voltage regulator, correct hoses, and an Autolite Sta-Ful battery further that authentic presentation. Turn the key and the Boss roars to life without hesitation, settling into an intimidating idle. Despite all the impressive hardware up top, the car is all Torino underneath. The floors are coated in satin black and, while there are some hardware upgrades visible, nothing strays to far from the factory work. The most notable difference is the addition of custom long tube headers that connect to a massive dual exhaust system tamed by IMCO mufflers. In the center, a "big input" Toploader four-speed transmission allows for confident shifts while a Ford 9-inch rear with a stout 'N' case puts power to the ground through 3.50 gears. The rear end is supported by a pair of heavy-duty leaf springs aided by staggered Monro-Matic shocks while the front maintains its standard double A-arm configuration. The front springs have been swapped out to give the front end a little more ground clearance but a pair of NASCAR-spec springs are included should you want to return the car to its former ground-pounding glory. While left turns would have been priority on the track, a factory power steering system keeps driver effort minimal regardless of which way the road curves. Braking is equally confident thanks to power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. At the corners, a set of Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in 235/60R15 and 255/50R15 Goodyear Eagle tires connect the vintage chassis to road while rounding out the exterior in style. These cars were originally planned as production pieces so the interior features many of the same bells and whistles as any other early '70s Ford. Both front and rear seating are provided by vinyl-clad bench seats which carry a highly authentic look. Black carpet conceals the floors and the lower portion of the wood grain-accented door panel while polished Ford door sill plates rest in between. There is no center console just a Hurst T-handle shifter connected to the Toploader below. Slide in the driver seat for a closer look at the stock dash which features a horizontal speedometer, square fuel and temperature gauges, and an odometer that reads 43,235 miles. All the typical chrome pull switches are here and there's even slider controls for the heater and AM radio. Input is fed through an unassuming three-spoke steering wheel and stainless-trimmed pedals. From the hardware to the Cobra badge on the dash, everything inside presents well but carries an aged look that simply can't be recreated. Lift the deck lid to find a straightforward trunk space occupied by little more than a mat. There are no factory decals or full-size spare tires but there are signatures from Ford history John Craft and two former NASCAR drivers. With the kind of history this car has, there is naturally a pretty large stack of paper that goes with it. Some of the oldest pieces include the original invoice from Ford as well as vintage photos of the King Cobras in development. A copy of Motor Trend's October 1969 issue documents the origins of the cars while an article from the October 1990 issue of Muscle Car Review catches up with all three. The aforementioned NASCAR-spec coils are included as well as two large picture boards that can be used at car shows. While Ford and Chrysler fans will both tell you their respective sides were the clear champions of the Aero Wars, the truth is probably closer to the middle. Out of 102 Grand National races held during the '69 and '70 seasons, aero cars claimed 73 victories overall. Of those, Ford claimed 37 while Chrysler brought home 36. far from a landslide for either camp. Looking at this 1970 Torino King Cobra, it's hard not to wonder what its race-prepped equivalent would have done in competition and that unspent potential is part of what makes the car so intriguing. Vehicles this exclusive don't come up for sale often and usually find homes in long-term collections where they remain for decades to come. If you've dreamed of owning the ultimate Ford collectible, they simply don't get better than this. About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. From 6-cylinder 'secretary specials' to the newest, fire-breathing GT350R, enthusiasts have always been able to build pretty much any platform they wanted through either a factory order form or an aftermarket phone number. That said; the most impressive Mustangs are typically those that channel a horse with some kind of snake. And for roughly 50 years, various forms of snake-branded ponies have built a reputation for being some the hottest performance cars the market has ever seen. 1 of only 5,009 Mustang Cobra coupes built for the 1994 model year, and sporting only 2,175 original miles, this factory-serpentinized pony possesses a level of polish most aftermarket entities simply couldn't achieve. And, if you're looking for a pristine Mustang to preserve or enjoy, it's a whole lot of potential for not a lot of investment! BODYWORK/TRIM Thanks to exceptionally low mileage and impeccable maintenance, this factory-fresh Cobra is essentially brand new in every way. Back in '94, the guys at Ford's Dearborn facility must've known people spending almost $25K on a new sports car expected a different level of fit and finish; and with this top-of-the-line coupe, they certainly delivered. There's absolutely nothing on the car's showroom stock body that could be considered anything more than shelf wear. Its glossy Rio Red 2-stage is smooth enough to appear fresh out of the paint shop. Its Cobra-spec trim is so straight you'd think it's interwoven behind the body's hard parts. And overall, this Ford, backed by a clean, 3-owner CARFAX, is a super slick speed machine that mixes timeless curb appeal with a premium sense of drivability! ENGINE The Mustang has long been the champion of budget performance, and much of that has to do with the rock-solid base engines Ford shoves between the car's fenders. Pop the hood on this Cobra and you'll find a low-mileage example of the venerable 5.0 liter Windsor V8. While the '5-Oh' made its first appearance as a 289 way back in 1963, it continuously progressed over the next 40 years to become a choice ally for all kinds of performance fans on the highway, drag strip and road course. For the 1994 model year, the mill's Cobra-exclusive High Output variation utilized an aluminum GT-40 intake, roller rockers, iron GT-40 heads, an aggressive cam profile and upgraded fuel and exhaust paths to create an unbeatable combination of smooth cruising and spirited performance. As you would expect, this showroom-fresh coupe's clean engine remains bone stock, but with 240 horsepower and 285 lb./ft. of torque, 'stock' isn't such a bad place to be. The car starts on the first try, idles well and retains all the good manners installed at Ford's Dearborn factory. And, featuring mere break-in miles, the engine is ripe for modification or a few more decades of casual cruising the choice is yours! DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Corral this pony on a lift and you'll find a well-preserved undercarriage that's every bit as solid as the car's slick profile. At the center of the floors, a beefy Borg Warner 5-speed offers full access to the 5-Oh's power while a stock, 8.8-inch rear end throws that power though original, 3.08 gears. Handling and overall refinement were a central focus for SVT-tuned SN95s, and that attention to detail shows in items like beefy sway bars, performance-tuned struts, special shocks and lightly massaged springs. Naturally, that suspension remains in its stock configuration, taking well to curves thanks to power rack-and-pinion steering and an optional anti-lock brake system, which controls power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes. And at the corners, machined, 17-inch wheels, wrapped in 255/45ZR17 Goodyear Eagle GS-Cs, cap off the car's aggressive looks. INTERIOR Inside this Mustang you'll find a comfortable and stylish cockpit that's ready for both short stoplight sprints and long road trips. At the center of the car, leather-lined, high-back buckets fit like a glove. Inside the dash, familiar white-faced gauges ride behind sculpted 2-tone trim that's free of the bubbling and heat cracks that typically manifest under sharply angled windshields. Below that dash, a leather-wrapped shifter looks perfect between a slim console and factory-spec audio equipment. Beneath that console, like-new carpet, which is protected by "COBRA" branded floor mats, remains tight and fade-free. At the edges of that carpet, tapered door panels frame power mirrors, power windows, power door locks and factory MACH speakers. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel spins buttons for modern cruise control around a tilting column. Behind the cockpit, a factory-finished trunk features ample storage space. And naturally, all the amenities and conveniences you've come to expect in a modern classic are present and accounted for, including climate control, individual courtesy lamps and power seat adjustment. The amazing paint, and affordable price, is just what's going to make you act quickly to grab this one before some one else discovers it. You could build a replica yourself, but why bother investing a small fortune if the price is right, and the body looks this good (and we haven't even talked about the drivetrain)? This is a complete, and super-straight, roadster finished in a Charcoal Gray that's so fresh you may have dairy products in your fridge that are older than this professional respray. The overall effect is a super shiny package on this American racing icon that's only reinforced by the bright push bumpers in front, and classic tube rear bumper. Details like the knock-off style wheels, driver roll hoop, and wide fender flares, suggest that it was built for combat, and the hardware underneath backs up this assumption. But even if you don't turn a wheel on the track, it's certain to turn heads on the street. The interior definitely gets the Shelby attitude right with wrap-around buckets, and the three spoke wood steering wheel. The gear stick has been bent forward for improved comfort, and there are power outlets to plug in any essentials (ya know, like a radar detector.) The full AutoMeter gauge package is critical if you're using your Cobra on the track, but if not, they also just look like cool representations of the Cobra's original Smiths readout package. There's no radio, no heater, no A/C this was built with driving in mind, and it's all about the driving experience and nothing else needs to get in the way. Speaking of the driving experience, the best part of a Cobra is always under the hood. This one is powered by a Ford's legendary 302 cubic-inch V8 that was rebuilt less than 750 miles ago. It's been dressed nicely with the correct Cobra air filter, and finned valve covers. Beyond just looking good, the motor makes some serious power by inhaling through a four-barrel carburetor, and exhaling deeply through the powder-coated side pipes. This V8 does a great job of moving the lightweight fiberglass body, and you can stay in the powerband with ease thanks to the five-speed manual transmission. Of course, power is nothing without control. That's why this Cobra comes with an aluminum independent front and rear suspension package, borrowed from a Corvette. It's backed up by a four-wheel disc brake package, connected to wide BF Goodrich tires. But as much as this seems like the perfect racecar, there is another side to this Cobra. With power steering, and a versatile 3.54 rear end, connected to the overdrive transmission, this roadster might also be the perfect way to be seen cruising on a Saturday night. It's hard not to get excited about a Cobra that's a great package for the street and the strip. It only gets better once you see the full binder or maintenance and restoration records - including nearly $5K in recent service. And, while it's our job to facilitate transactions that make car enthusiasts' dreams come true, we also enjoy telling guests about the legendary metal that adorns our massive Charlotte showroom. That's why we simply couldn't wait to tell you about this awesome Raven Black fastback! Fully documented, wearing a fresh restoration and featuring a killer 428/3-speed drivetrain, this Ford is an excellent example of one of the finest muscle cars ever produced. And if you're a discerning enthusiast who demands the very best in high caliber, investment grade classics, it's the story you've been patiently waiting to hear! BODYWORK/TRIM Delivered to Healy Motors of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, this awesome Shelby likely spent very little time in the showroom before its big power and big style were unleashed on big city streets. After roughly four decades of excellent maintenance and accident-free driving, the car received a ground-up restoration that included stripping and reworking each of its solid panels. Once those laser-straight lines and super-smooth surfaces were adequately prepped, correct Raven Black base was buried in thick clear and decorated with precise GT500 KR side stripes. And today, this razor-sharp Shelby rolls as a first-class showpiece that can anchor any serious muscle car collection or hedge any major investment portfolio. The GT500 threw fuel on the muscle car fire by not only adding power, but also introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustang styling cues ever created. At the front of this KR, a stainless-trimmed grille hangs big Lucas driving lamps between clear Ford headlights, a bright chrome bumper and bullet-style parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a familiar "S H E L B Y" script leads the eye to a correct fiberglass hood, which is founded in mirror-like stainless and like-new glass. At the sides of that glass, a straight profile hangs small scoops, ornate Cobra Jet emblems and subtle fender extensions around traditional door handles, correct chrome mirrors and dent-free rocker guards. And at the back of that profile, a smooth silver valence centers correct taillights and a detailed fuel filler between a second chrome bumper, bright reverse lamps, KR-exclusive exhaust tips and a correct, "S H E L B Y" branded decklid. ENGINE Now that you've waded through all the flowery prose about paint and trim, it's time to get down to business. Lift the car's lightweight hood and you'll find 428 cubic inches of Ford V8 that's been completely rebuilt from its big 4-barrel carburetor all the way down to its (D) April 17th (17), 1967 (7) casting date. Long regarded as one of the most iconic mills ever created, factory-supplied Cobra Jets utilized a strengthened medium block, heavy-duty rods, a nodular crankshaft, and larger valves and ports to produce an advertised 335 horsepower. At the top of the engine, ram air cowl induction centers a "COBRA JET" branded air cleaner over a high performance intake. At the sides of that intake, cast iron heads hang crinkle-finish Cobra LeMans valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds. The fires are lit by a familiar points distributor, which sequences sparks through fresh Autolite Radio Resistance plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a stock radiator, which circulates water through pliable FoMoCo hoses. And charging is provided by squeak-free belts, which spin a rebuilt alternator and correct power steering via simple black pulleys. Aesthetically, the clean engine bay appears very close to original, featuring an even combination of Satin Black and Ford Blue paint. And everything, from the car's tagged Autolite battery to its tidy Ford washer tank, appears fully sorted and ready to show. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take a look under this Mustang and you'll find exceedingly clean floors that are every bit as solid as the body's straight exterior panels. The tough C6 3-speed, one of 523 bolted under 1968 KRs, spins a correct Traction-Lok differential around correct 3.50 gears. At the front of that drivetrain, a rebuilt suspension centers a beefy sway bar and the aforementioned power steering between correct power disc brakes. At the back of that drivetrain, sturdy leaf springs hang correct drum brakes at the edges of a clean stainless fuel tank. At the center of that suspension, fresh exhaust pipes funnel spent gases through an H-shaped crossover, small resonators and a transversely mounted muffler. Power meets the ground through 215/65R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As, which are wrapped around appropriate Shelby 10-spokes. And everything, from the car's stainless fluid lines to its "COBRA" branded oil pan, appears safe, lucid and ready to roll. INTERIOR Naturally, Ol' Shel focused most of his energy on the performance and appearance of America's most revered pony car. And when those attributes were combined with Ford's already excellent interior, it paid big dividends. The first thing you'll notice is a snazzy wood-rimmed, chrome-trimmed steering wheel. Behind that wheel, a great looking dash frames a correct 140 MPH speedometer and 8,000 RPM tachometer beside a correct Philco radio and requisite Carroll Shelby autograph. Opposite that dash, knitted vinyl seats are in spectacular shape, presenting hardly any evidence of use. Between those seats, a full-length console anchors small Stewart Warner accessory gauges in front of a slick Shelby shifter and correct, cobra-branded armrest. Beneath that console, like-new carpet rides tight between Shelby branded sill plates. Opposite that carpet, a Shelby-spec roll bar perfectly complements a fresh headliner. At the base of that roll bar, pliable door panels feature bright stainless trim, spotless chrome handles and clean wood accents. And at the back of the cockpit, a fully restored trunk hides a new mat, fresh decklid decals and Goodyear Speedway 350 spare. HISTORICAL INFORMATION 1 of only 1,053 KR fastbacks produced for the 1968 model year, this stellar pony is pretty much everything anyone could ask for when it comes to investment grade muscle. Between its slick hip lines and slightly larger stature, it was the 'stang that officially laid rubber across the grave of the "secretary car" stigma. Production numbers weren't exactly low, but when an example like this fully documented R-code Mach 1 comes along, we're always happy to clear a spot in our showroom. Wrapping a cool color combination around a correct 428 Cobra Jet, a correct Toploader 4-speed and enough appeal to draw a crowd anytime it sits still, this Ford is an awesome twist on a can't-miss favorite. And if you're looking for the perfect first generation pony car that'll rule local shows and make the best of your summer weekends, it's your next classic! BODYWORK/TRIM With most muscle cars, there's usually a single element that catches your eye long before anything else. But with this Mustang, EVERY piece works together to create a virtual symphony of automobilia. With a solid fastback body that's benefitted from a detailed, rotisserie restoration, this is the kind of metal that could turn heads in primer; and what better way to ensure sore neck muscles than mixing in correct Acapulco Blue paint? That paint coats fit and finish that puts factory-original fodder to shame. That fit and finish is augmented by a slick satin hood stripe, which recreates traditional Mach 1 markings. And to ensure this pony will stand out from the herd, everything has been buffed to a show-stopping shine! For 1967, Ford rolled out a bigger, more muscular pony car. And the 1968 and '69 model years saw that design subtly refined. The front end was cleaned up thanks to a deletion of horizontal grille bars. That brightwork was replaced with a single band of trim surrounding the grille, which, on this coupe, also houses driving lights. Above that grille, a shaker hood features stainless lanyards and a small, silver-detailed scoop. Along the car's profile, bright Mach 1 stripes hover between clear marker lamps and dent-free rocker spears. At the doors, body-matched sport mirrors complement traditional quarter scoops and highly detailed B-pillar emblems. Below the roofline, show-quality stainless edges like-new glass. And when you follow the fastback rearward, a third Mach 1 stripe frames a broad "M U S T A N G" script, triple-segment taillights and a pony-branded fuel filler above small reverse lamps and quad-outlet exhaust tips. ENGINE Back in 1969, if you wanted a Mustang and you wanted to slay stoplights, you wanted Ford's killer Cobra Jet V8. Lift this fastback's scooped hood and you'll find 428 cubic inches of FE big block that's been completely rebuilt from its spry Holley carburetor all the way down to its May (E) 19th (19), 1969 (9) casting date. Long regarded as one of the most iconic mills ever created, factory-supplied Cobra Jets utilized a strengthened medium block, heavy-duty rods, a nodular crankshaft, and larger valves and ports to produce an advertised 335 horsepower. At the top of the engine, ram air cowl induction centers a "COBRA JET" branded shaker over a high performance intake. At the sides of that intake, cast iron heads hang polished Ford valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds. A familiar points distributor, which sequences sparks through fresh Autolite Radio Resistance plug wires, lights the fires. Cooling comes courtesy of a stock radiator, which circulates water through pliable Autolite hoses and old school screw clamps. And squeak-free belts, which spin a rebuilt alternator via simple black pulleys, provide charging. Aesthetically, the clean engine bay appears very close to original, featuring an even combination of Satin Black and Ford Blue paint. And everything, from the car's tagged Autolite battery to its bright Autolite voltage regulator, appears fully sorted and ready to show. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take a look at our professional, high-resolution photos and you'll see that the bottom of this fully sorted pony is a literal expose in freshly restored factory accuracy. Behind the car's first-class Ford block, a tough Toploader 4-speed drives a durable Ford 9-inch that's equipped with solid, road-ready gears. Holding that versatile drivetrain off the ground is a lucid factory suspension, which has been fully rebuilt and correctly tagged. Above that suspension, clean floorpans appear solid and show absolutely no signs of rust or weathering. At the center of those floors, free breathing, true-dual pipes shuttle spent gases from the aforementioned manifolds to small resonators and a transversely mounted muffler. At the corners of the car, factory drum brakes make solid stops an absolute cinch. And everything rolls on attractive chrome rims, which spin F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads around polished trim rings and satin center caps. INTERIOR Inside this Ford, a correct and equally attractive interior will make any Mustang fan feel right at home. Everything from the car's floor mats to its headliner appears new, and correct hi-back buckets provide plenty of support for spirited driving. From the captain's chair, a familiar Mustang dash features a nice set of factory gauges, which keeps tabs on fuel, speed, revs and temperature, while a Rim Blow steering wheel keeps the driver connected to the road. At the center of the cockpit, a correct Philco radio hangs over an ornate chrome shifter and long factory console. This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. We can't seem to keep this vintage Mustang in our showroom, and this is one rare pony! The Mach 1 was the perfect canvas to showcase Ford's refreshed Mustang for 1969. The body was stretched to have a meaner street presence, and this new premium package was not shy about its prowess. The Mach 1s looked ready for the track with standard hood pins and flat black hood paint to reduce glare for the driver. This one is optioned with the desirable (and functional) shaker hood. Mach 1 coupes were automatically given the striking SportsRoof fastback body and chrome wheel package, but runners like this were then upgraded with the sporty rear window louvers as well as front and rear spoilers. The Moss Green paint is a throwback to a shade available in earlier years, making this Mach 1 even more unique. Plus, the gold undertones have a striking way of matching with the yellow sports stripe. It's not just us suggesting its attractiveness. This is a show car, and you even get the trophies to prove it! The Mach 1 was the most expensive Mustang model aside from the Shelby line, so Ford made sure that buyers got their money's worth, especially in the interior. These cars came standard with features such as a three-spoke RimBlow deluxe steering wheel, electric clock, and high-backed bucket seats all of which are intact on this coupe. The Mustang's famously long options list meant the first owner loaded this car even further by ticking the box for items such as power steering, power brakes, and AM/FM radio (currently not in the car but comes with the purchase.) If everything appears a little fresher than other Mustangs you've looked at recently, it's likely due to a restoration performed in the last eight years (you can judge for yourself with the included receipts.) This is particularly apparent on the acres of wood onlay, which when in pristine condition like this, feels like sitting in a comfy time machine. The red flooring and matching accents in the seats are correct for this car and add a subtle reminder that this pony car is secretly a beast. This is an R-code Mustang, which means the big block 428 cubic inch V8 with ram air is under this hood. Engines from this era were famously underrated, so the impressive 335 hp rating from the factory was really pushing a mind-blowing 400+ hp. It is mated to a stout Ford C6 three-speed automatic transmission, and it is sent to the road via Ford's Traction-Lok limited slip differential running a 3.25 ratio. The combination of the Mach 1 package and this big engine further sweetened the deal by automatically getting upgraded to Ford's HD competition suspension. This beefed up the front spindles, shocks, shock towers, and anti-roll bar to make sure that this Mustang could handle the extra muscle. Ford even upgraded this package with the sport exhaust with quad tips (everything can be verified in the detailed Marti report included with the car.) The cherry on top of this coupe is that all this power can be kept in check thanks to the optional front disc brakes. There is a lot of 'Wow' factor in this documented Mustang. For you it will be about pouring through the original owner's manual and restoration receipts. Everyone else will flock to everything from the paint to the massive motor. This is the kind of pony car that turns a crowd into a stampede to see a thoroughbred.
