In the early 21st century, the guys at Pontiac worked with GM's Holden division to bring world-class muscle to American shores. During the '80s, Buick's bad-to-the-bone Grand National proudly separated the winners from the losers. In the mid-'90s, Chevrolet's visionary Impala SS brought a new sense of cool to the full-size segment. And in the early '90s, it was this compact GMC land rocket that drew comparisons to the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. All black, all business and packed with Professional Grade performance hardware, this prim and polished pickup backs turbocharged V6 power with factory all-wheel drive and a tuned sport suspension! BODYWORK/TRIM Feeling especially whimsical, and privy to leftover parts from its empire of mass transportation appliances, GM set the automotive marketplace on its ear with a curve ball known as 'the 1991 Syclone'. But, unfortunately, the corporation's own bureaucracy killed the world-beating truck almost as fast as it hit dealerships, limiting production to 2,995 units. This Syclone's wet-looking coat of GM code 19 Black highlights original sheetmetal that's both crisp and sharp. The truck's vertical panels center straight surfaces in even gaps, showing no signs of damage or accident repairs. And, topped by great looking, factory-correct trim, the finish on those panels is every bit as glossy as it is deep. ENGINE Speaking of survivors, and GM's core strengths, if anyone ever creates an ultimate engine survivors list the corporation's stalwart Vortec 4300 V6 will surely be at the top. Introduced in 1985, that rugged powerplant has been a mainstay in most of the general's light truck offerings and, in massively re-engineered EcoTec3 guise, continues as the company's entry-level lump for the current Silverado and Sierra. For Syclone duty, the LB4 4300 saw significant mechanical upgrades that included better pistons, freer intake and exhaust manifolds, a Mitsubishi TD06-17C turbocharger, a Garrett water/air intercooler and a 48mm twin-bore throttle body that was borrowed from Chevrolet's 5.7 liter V8. All those carefully calculated tweaks and improvements added up to a very impressive 280 horsepower and 350 lb./ft. of V8-slaying torque. And the truck's strip-scorching times would not only best GM's own Camaro and Corvette, but also catapult it to the forefront of '90s performance! Mechanically, the low-mileage mill, which is 100% stock inside and out, benefitted from extensive service work last May. Everything, from the block's dry oil pan to its pliable air tube, is clean, lean and weather-free. Up for sale is my 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada. We purchased this SUV in December of last year from the second owner who had the truck for about a year. The original owner was an older gentleman who purchased it new and kept it garaged here in south Florida until it was traded in on a new truck. The second owner unfortunately ran the truck low on oil and spun a rod bearing, so I purchased it barely running. My wife used to own a truck just like this about 10 years ago and we loved it so we decided to rebuild the truck for her to drive. A little about me: I am an auto enthusiast who enjoys restoring older GM cars so this truck was built right with extreme attention to detail as that is the only way I know how to build them. So over a period of about 5 months I completely rebuilt this truck. I have over $5000 in this truck not including lots of my labor! Here is what has been replaced since I have owned it..... The engine was pulled out and completely rebuilt with new crank, and 1 rod, new plasma moly rings, new clevite 77 rod, main, cam, and balance shaft bearings. Also replaced the balance shaft with new GM one, new roller timing set, Melling high volume oil pump, timing cover, all Victor Reinz premium gaskets, head bolts, heads were mildly ported with valve job, guides, and seals. On the top end of engine I replaced with new ACDelco parts the fuel injectors, EGR valve, fuel lines, O2 sensor, plugs and wires, hoses, belt, and belt tensioner. Truck also has new radiator, water pump, alternator, battery, A/C compressor, accumulator, oil cooler lines, motor mounts, Delco fuel pump and sender. I also resealed the transmission with new input seal, shift shaft seal, and replaced filter and fluid. Also replaced fluid in front and rear differentials. For the suspension and steering new Delco pitman arm and idler arm, Dorman upper and lower control arms with new bushings and ball joints. I put on new delco front brake rotors, rear wheel cylinders, and rear drums, plus front brake pads are performance heavy duty Hawk pads so this truck stops very well. For the fun stuff, I dropped the truck about 2" using front lowering keys and rear blocks (I can put the truck back to stock height easily if that is what is preferred). Magnaflow cat back exhaust, Rancho gas shocks, replaced all the tires with new Kuhmos and had the truck aligned. Inside I put in a JVC CD player with front aux input, and all new pioneer speakers front and back, put in stock style homelink in overhead console, sourced a brand new GM center console lid, ventvisors on front doors and bug shield on hood. Also had front windows tinted to match the backs, and had the windshield tinted with UV film to help keep the heat down inside. I have the original owners manual, 2 sets of keys and 2 keyless entry remotes, plus lots of receipts. I am sure I am forgetting something as I essentially replaced everything on this truck, and since it was for my wife, I only bought the best parts available as I didn't want any problems. She put about 4000 miles on the truck, but has since taken a job that requires a much longer commute so we got her a smaller car and just no longer have a use for the Bravada. This truck runs, drives, stops, and everything works, I would not hesitate to get in and drive it anywhere.
