After all, it's hard not to love a vehicle that's both a comfy sedan and a versatile pickup. This 1981 Chevrolet El Camino delivers this iconic idea at an unbeatable price. And better yet, the 34,093 miles on this car's odometer are believed to original but cannot be documented. Thanks to handsome two-tone paint, this El Camino looks like a far more expensive car than it is. The brown and tan combo looks period-correct, but you'll notice a nice metallic element in the sunlight that never was applied at the Doraville, Georgia assembly plant. These final generation El Caminos have a particularly sleek and sporty design with a hint of classic style (the smooth roof is even a bit reminiscent of the three-window coupes from the '30s.) Add in a bit of flashy stainless steel trim that neatly provides a break point for the colors, as well as the taillights inset into the rear bumper, and you start to understand the car-like flair you don't get on other small pickups. The bed is still in good shape, like it has only ever seen light duty. Plus, for style and fuel economy it has been fitted with a roll-up cover. The final style element to bridge the sedan and pickup worlds is the set of rally wheels, which really help tie in the unique stylish tradition of the El Camino. One look inside and you'll realize why you never want to tint the windows. The two-tone interior perfectly matches the exterior, and let's face it, everyone from car shows to supermarket parking lots will be impressed with its appearance. Even with all this style, this Elky doesn't lose its versatility. The split bench seats three, and there's even space remaining behind it to store some items out of sight. The dash will look familiar to anyone who's driven a 4th gen Malibu, so components are easy to source. This one even comes with plenty of great convenience features such as the AM/FM/cassette stereo, cruise control, and ice cold air conditioning that's been converted to R-134a for easy servicing. Under the hood is exactly what you want to see. It's Chevy's trusty 350 cubic-inch small-block V8 that we love because of how easy they are to upgrade. In fact, this one already has been given Corvette valve covers and an Edelbrock chrome air cleaner for appearance, and an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Weiand intake for added power. More than just powerful, this El Camino is setup to be an easy all-day cruiser with features such as the TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes. This is a great El Camino that goes beyond just driver-quality in every aspect except its low price. 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible -- One Of Only 272 GTO Convertibles Built In 1967 With The Combination Of A Manual ` (4-Speed) Transmission & Factory Air Conditioning! Vehicle History Prior To My Ownership This GTO was built at the Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant the second week of November, 1966, and then delivered to Central Gwinnett Motors, Inc. in Lawrenceville, Georgia (Dealer Zone “18”, Dealer Code “125”). I was told by the previous owner that a minister was the original owner. The second owner was employed by General Motors, and worked at the Doraville, Georgia assembly plant. When the second owner was transferred by General Motors to the Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant in 1976, he bought the GTO along with him. Sometime thereafter, the third owner (who also worked at the Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant) purchased the car. The third owner of this GTO owned it until October 1989 when we purchased it. The third owner only treated this car as a summer pleasure vehicle. It has never been subjected to harsh Michigan winter driving. The third owner performed a mild cosmetic restoration. When I learned that the car was for sale, I could not pass it up given its outstanding c-free condition, plus the original color combination of Signet Gold with a black top and a black interior was a popular color combination. My Ownership When we purchased the car, I already knew I wanted to perform a proper and thorough restoration on this convertible. The cars overall condition at this time was estimated to be a +3. with the interior being a -2. In 1990 I began purchasing NOS parts, plus some options for the eventual restoration. We drove the car as a pleasure vehicle only during the summers of 1990 to 2000. At times the car achieved 2nd and 3rd place awards. It has always been stored during the winter, inside a sealed desiccant filled car bag, and located in our enclosed attached garage. The Restoration In the spring of 2001, I began the restoration. I performed the disassembly and re-assembly with assistance of two other experienced GTO hobbyists who had in 1989, restored an Autorama 1st place award winning 65 GTO. Our 67 GTO was completed in the spring of 2003, and then was concourse judged “Gold” at both the 2003 GTOAA International Convention & 2003 Pontiac-Oakland Club International Convention. This car has been well cared for since it’s restoration and consistently updated to maintain its condition. A five page article covering the restoration was in the July 2011 issue of Hemmings Motor News. A sealed unopened copy of that issue will be included with the sale of this car. I contracted professionals to perform the following: Body & frame paint work Engine rebuilding Carburetor restoration Porcelain coating of the exhaust manifolds Rear differential set-up Radiator re-coring, four row with extra fins per inch Steering gear rebuild. Interior seats rebuilt from the frames up Master cylinder stainless steel re-sleaving & rebuilding Hurst shifter handle chrome plate and rebuilding Power steering pump rebuilding Air Conditioning compressor , low and high pressure condenser rebuilding Convertible top installation Fan Clutch restored Hood hinge rebuilding Wood grain steering wheel remolding Dash bezel plating and repainting Stainless steel side trim, door sill, and inside door molding polishing. In some cases, these replaced the original “content”. The following was added: Code “344” – Push-Button AM-FM Radio & Manual Antenna Code “401” – Luggage Lamp (Installed An NOS Accessory Package) Code “422” – Ignition & Starter Switch Lamp Code “444” – Instrument Panel Rally Gauge Cluster & Tachometer Code “453” – Rally II Wheels (Correct “JC” Coded For Drum Brake Cars) Code “471” – Custom Sports Steering Wheel Code “492” – Remote Control Deck Lid Release (Installed An NOS Accessory Package) Code “502” – Power Brakes (Installed An NOS Accessory Package) Code “504” – Tilt Steering Wheel Column Code “524” – Wood Gearshift Knob Code “631” – Front Pair Floor Mats Code “632” – Rear Pair Floor Mats Code “731” – Safe-T-Track Differential Code “MD” – White Wall Firestone Wide Oval F70 x 14 Nylon Tires Attributes According to Pontiac Historic Services, this is one of only 272 1967 GTO Convertibles built with the combination of a manual transmission & factory air conditioning! As a comparison, 1,207 GTO Convertibles were built in the 1967 model year with the combination of a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission and factory air conditioning. This GTO retains its complete original date coded drive train components including the complete engine, clutch bell housing, Muncie transmission, driveshaft, rear axle housing, and ring & pinion. In addition, this GTO has the following correct date coded and/or broadcast coded components: Rochester Quadra jet “WB” carburetor, Delco-Remy “1111250” ignition distributor, Delco-Remy “1100700” 55 amp alternator, Delco-Remy “1119515” voltage regulator is NOS, Delco-Moraine “CT” brake master cylinder, Saginaw power steering gear, Harrison “TV” radiator and Delco-Remy “1107355” Starter Motor. As mentioned before, this GTO has never suffered any serious body sheet metal damage. The only sheet metal replaced before the restoration was the LH door skin. It is not known to me when it was replaced. Other than one very minor dent and scrap on the right hand fender, everything else was as Pontiac made it. Articles/Books -: The Oakland Press, PONTIAC’S GREAT ONE, and a five page article covering the cars restoration in the July 2011 edition of Hemmings Motor News.
