I am selling my 1992 Honda Civic LX 5 Speed. 4 Dr. Honestly, I have been driving for over 40 years, I have had many, many cars, used to be all American cars, and this has turned out to be the BEST car I have ever owned. I am a mechanic, so I have meticulously maintained this car since I have had it, about 10 years. Oil changes every 3000 miles, and whatever else it needed. I have kept records, and or receipts, of all repairs done to it. Like I said, I bought it approx.. 10 years ago, in Ill. It then had 154, 000 miles on it. A traveling newsman from Iowa had it previously. He had all kinds of maintenance receipts for it. He had already had 2 timing belts put on it, for routine maintenance. At that time, I could not believe how well it ran for the miles on it. It now, just recently, turned over 256, 000 miles, and it still runs every bit as good as it did then. It uses NO oil. Unbelievable. I just checked the oil level after 3000 miles, and as usual, it was still full. I just changed the oil and filter a few days ago, as it was due. 6/30/15. This car is surprisingly quick, for a 1.5 L. engine, too. It’ll cruise at 75 MPH, no problem. Nice and smooth. I just took it to Madison 2 days ago, and Milwaukee yesterday, just buzzes right along. Here are some of the major repairs I have done myself, or had done the last few years. At 174,000 miles I put a new head gasket on it. Has run perfectly fine ever since. Approx. 45,000 miles ago, I routinely put a 3rd timing belt on it and a water pump. It has a newer, heavy duty, thicker radiator, which I put on it. One tie rod replaced a couple of years ago, all 4 new ball joints replaced a year ago, a brand new clutch installed just this last May, 2015. Cost me $781. The transmission still shifts nicely and works perfectly. Exhaust is newer, including a new Catalytic Convertor. Has very good, 13”, General tires on it. I don’t think they have 10,000 miles on them. New alternator last winter. Front brakes and rotors replaced last year. New Platinum spark plugs recently. I have records for all these repairs/maintenance. The paint is still pretty shiny, the seats are good, not torn, dash looks good. And the windshield is not cracked! It’s been replaced by a professional. The car handles well, no squeaks or rattles. This car had some excellent undercoating done, the floor pans, trunk floor are all still solid, brake lines too. There is some rust issues around the rear wheels, but not real bad. I tried to show it in the pics. I used to have a car lift, up till two months ago, so I was always inspecting the underside of the car. In the summer, drive this car easy and you’ll get 40+ MPG. Even at 75 MPH. If you drive it a bit more aggressively, it’ll drop a couple of MPG. It drops to about 36 in the winter. Here are the good things: all these things work, Pioneer, removeable face CD player/radio, heater, defroster, wipers, all lights, signals, trunk release, all gauges, except Speedometer. Odometer works tho. 3 of the 4 power windows work, guess which one doesn’t? Well, it’s intermittent, the driver’s side of course. One of the electrical spades in the plug on the door, has corroded and fell off. If I open the door, and push the window switch, and twist the plug, then the window will work. I can have the door off in about 8 minutes, and have looked at the plug, I really believe it needs to be replaced to get the driver’s window to work. Power locks quit working as well. Recently, the dimmer switch quit working, so I have 4 blue LED lights glued on the underside of the dash to illuminate the gauges. As mentioned before, ever since I’ve had the car, the speedo is wacko, a common problem for these cars, but the odometer works, so that tells me that the problem is in the speedo head itself. I have learned, in 5th gear, what rpm’s = what speed. For example, 2800 rpms is about 73 MPH. I did that with the help of a GPS! LOL. Hasn’t been a problem for me. And, the air conditioning does not work. That’s about all I can think of for now. Any questions, please email me. Local pickup only. I live in Belvidere, Il. $500 to be pd. I once had a Japanese Gentleman tell me that the 1992’s were the “Golden Year” of the Civics. I don’t know, but that’s what he said. The only reason I’m getting rid of the car, is I’m doing a simple upgrade. I am sure this car will run to or past 300,000 miles, easy. You’ll have to drive it to see. Thanks for looking.
