DESCRIPTION:
This car has also been listed locally. This listing will be cancelled if sold to a local buyer. 1991 BMW 318is Two-door sedan 1.8 L M42 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine Manual 5-speed transmissionMade in Germany I have 38 photographs. Ebay allows 24 photos. I can email the photographs and I can take more photographs if you would like. I can also send audio of the car running. I would like the buyer of my car to be happy with their purchase. This requires that you know, as best as possible, what you are buying. Please view all the photos and, if possible, inspect the car in person before bidding. The car is straight except for a 4" dent at the wheel flare of the left rear quarter panel. The interior is good by any standard, see photos. There is some perforating rust at the wheel flare of the right rear quarter panel and under the battery box. The hood has several small spots of rust, most smaller than a pencil eraser, about two no larger than 1.25" Rocker panels appear solid, although they do show surface rust as shown in the photos. The car runs well once warm - about two minutes, but runs poorly when cold. The car has sat idle since last winter. When I drove it in preparation for this auction, the right side steering rack oil seal failed, and leaked all the power steering fluid. I have removed the belt to prevent damage to the power steering pump. There is no harm driving the car without power steering, but is good upper-body exercise. You may prefer it on the track or the highway, but you are unlikely to prefer it while parallel parking. The fuel tank will leak if more than half full. The brake rotors have surface rust from sitting. There is no running drag and the car stops well. The differential leaks slowly. I check it annually and it has never needed more than a squirt. The air conditioning does not work. A few years back, I tested the system for leaks, found none, filled it with R-12 and the A/C worked for almost two summers. The lower control arms will need to be replaced. Not advanced to the point of a road hazard, and really just periodic maintenance on these cars. The hood latch does not work. I opened the hood by removing the latch screws. I expect to have this fixed by the time the car is picked up. The car starts, steers and stops. As with any car that has sat idle for an extended period of time, it should be tested on short runs to find and fix potential faults before assuming it will operate flawlessly on a long drive home. It would be safer to trailer the vehicle for a long haul. Recent alternator, battery, fuel pump and fuel filter. Shocks and struts were replaced at 129,000 miles. Some new parts on hand, including one lower control arm, tie rod, Rocker cover gasket, and hoses. I purchased the car from the original owner in 1997. Neither I, nor the previous owner were smokers. I have never had an accident. Buyer must pick up the car within 30 days of the auction end, else it will be re-listed. PayPal or cash lets you pick up the car immediately. Cashiers check requires that the check clear the bank before the car is picked up. No other form of payment is accepted. The car is sold as-is, no warranty. Standard bill of sale at time of pick-up.
