1985 Volkswagen Vanagon This ol' babe is the cat's pajamas. I love this vanagon and I'm certain you will too. My fiance and I just recently took several road trips including a 1000 mile round trip journey to Orlando, FL this past summer. I built a custom bed platform, threw a full size bed in the back, and never lost a wink of sleep during our camping trips. This is a true adventure machine. The good: -Runs Strong-Solid body-Clean interior with low wear-New Starter-Perfect glass all the way around-wooden bed platform-custom hand-made curtains-Fun paint(?)-Heat works-I would drive it anywhere The not as good:-Not the fastest car on the road, but if you're looking for a vanagon, you probably already know this. -it's 31 years old, so it's not perfect. -a/c isn't hooked up-a couple of dents, but nothing heartbreaking (pictured)-CD player blew a fuse -Odometer doesn't work so the miles are an estimate (I use a speedometer app on my phone and haven't skipped a beat)-The gas tank needs resealing, I only put 9 gallons in at a time and it has been fine, but I'm including a gas tank reseal kit. If you are even mildly handy, you can reseal the tank in an afternoon. Easy job. -Oil is slightly leaky from the oil drain plug. I think the plug was crossthreaded when I took the vanagon to get it's oil changed when I first got it. I simply put leak seal in every time I change the oil and hit the road and it seems to do the trick for a while. I always keep an eye on the level when I take longer trips. I bought this Vanagon last April from a guy that has worked on VW's for 30 years. He recently pulled the engine and put all new gaskets on everything. Starts every time and runs strong. As-is. I bought this truck 3 years ago with plans to keep it but life.... I paid $12980 for it then and have since added $17000+ to it. The truck has 225,000 on it, the engine though only has 135,000. All labor pricing is not included in the figures as I never charged myself a dime at my own automotive business to do any of the work:)) During and after the engine install the following items and maybe even a few I forgot were replaced: New Swamps Diesel(1st stage over stock)injectors, RiffRaff fuel return/regulator, billet turbo wheel, intake, mod banjos, fuel pump, filter/cap, hpop, exhaust/stacks, water pump/radiator, RX glow plugs, high amp alternator, batteries, DP tuner 4 pos., gauges, Southbend solid flywheel/clutch kit, custom shifter, relays a many, 4wd motor, wheels/tires, steel valve stems, new front factory X code springs, shocks/stabilizers, tie rods/end links/pitman arm, 07 Harley edition headlights, go light, power inverter, on board air compressor (large), train horns (because stop texting), 20 ton hydraulic jack, front and rear brake pads and rotors, alternator, A/C compressor, dryer, filter, seals and oil, (flushed lines, evap, condenser and vacuum/recharged it) a u-joint here, a sticker and some paint there, a lot of new fluids... On the other end., the front seats are cracked but comfy, the power door lock solenoids are weak and don't lock the doors, clear coat is peeling on the driver bedside (this is a nice repaint in original color but not perfect), fuel pick-up ext. has fell off (won't pick up fuel below a 1/4 of a tank, simple fix just don't have time), truck gets 17+mpg at highway speeds but can see closer to 10 around town or playing around... It will pull a anything and then some and is reliable and always quick to start (no warm up time needed above 45*), its a beast and the short box 6spd are getting hard to find.... I have been around a while as the owners before me, so as far as I know it always been adult owned and not beat up, abused or neglected. Pick up only, no deliveries.
