1963 Mercury Meteor Custom 2 door hardtop 1963 Mercury Meteor 2 door hardtop. Rare car , only 7000 made. Similar to 1963 Ford Fairlane. Rebuilt 260 V8 , 2 speed auto trans. All undercoating was removed from under car and painted with por15. There is no rust in the floors. Very minimal rust on body. I patched a few holes in the trunk by welding new metal. New parts in the last couple years are: front springs , front shocks , rear shocks , front disc brake kit , rotors , power brake booster , master cylinder , calipers , rear wheel cylinders , brake hoses , hard brake and fuel lines , spark plugs , wires , cap , rotor , power steering hoses , rebuilt and reseal power steering assy. , gas tank , sending unit , radial tires , radiator was cleaned and tested , edlebrock intake and 390cfm holley carb. , exhaust and intake gaskets. I have spent thousands on this car , in hope that my girlfriend would drive it to cruise nights. She has no interest. It has been sitting for a year. It still runs and drives , but has a lifter tap and the trans started leaking. The 2 speed trans is junk , so I am including a 5 bolt C4 and torque converter. I sanded and painted the dash. Repaired and painted the steering wheel and column. All lights , heater , wipers work. Radio does not work. Comes with original hub caps , intake , carb and air cleaner and rear wheel skirts.Very solid original , complete car with a bad repaint over the original white. For more car guys, the name Mercury Meteor suggests a Canadian-market cruiser that\'s rather rare here in the US. However, this 1963 Meteor hardtop is 100% USDA choice muscle, because from 1961-63 it was actually sold in the Mercury dealerships here in the US for those 2 years only, making this one a rather rare specimen. Based on the same mechanicals as the Fairlane, the Mercury offers an upscale twist on a fan favorite, with a dash of horsepower on the side. The look is unusual enough to make even seasoned car show attendees do a double-take as they recognize the Ford DNA in its veins, but not its face. That\'s OK, though, because the closer they look, the more they\'ll find to like. The super straight bodywork is straight out of the warm, dry southern US, and thanks to the extra ornamentation Mercury added, it sparkles. The original Sultana White over Pacific Blue paint scheme was retained during the restoration, and it is both timeless and a perfect combination for the early \'60s, all expertly rendered in modern urethane finishes. Modest tail fins reinforce the Mercury look, trimmed in neat little chrome tips with wonderfully complex taillight lenses inside. The grille and tail panel are equally detailed which makes even the entry-level Meteor look upscale, and the bumpers are straight but perhaps starting to show their age. Fortunately all the trim is there, because replacing any of this brightwork will likely be virtually impossible. The dazzling tri-tone interior was beautifully restored just recently and shows almost no sign of use since it was completed. The original bench seats front and rear were retained and covered in original style vinyl with pleated seating surfaces, and the wonderfully ornate door panels echo the same theme. Bright trim on the instrument panel echoes the exterior detailing with bright chrome surrounding the gauges, each of which lives in a separate pod under the wide speedometer. METEOR is spelled out in bold block letters on the center of the dash, just above the original AM radio and heater controls. You\'ll also note that an aftermarket A/C system has been installed under the dash, which is very much how it would have looked in 1963 when factory air was more of an add-on. And talk about rare! That\'s a Hurst shifter atop a 4-speed manual transmission, making this a genuine piece of muscle that\'s a blast to drive. The massive trunk is clean and shows clean quarters and floors, along with a mat and full-sized spare. In the horsepower department, Ford fans will recognize the 260 cubic inch small block V8 living under this Merc\'s hood. Yes, that\'s correct, Mercurys had bright red engines, and this one is dressed like it might have been back in \'63. There are no significant modifications aside from the A/C system, and it still carries its original air cleaner and even a generator! There\'s a recent dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers and a set of highway-friendly 3.25 gears in the rear end, so it just burbles down the highway in high fashion. Classic Magnum 500 wheels make any \'60s Ford product look racy, and wear 205/70/14 whitewall radials. With just two owners from new, this low-mileage Meteor is a neat piece of Mercury history that will stand out everywhere it goes. It has a rotted brake line so no brake operation, the front bumper is dented and slight dent on hood and right fender,. The engine is seized but just from sitting. I have oiled the cylinders and will try to free up properly. There are 2 quarter sized holes in the headliner behind the visors. And I have no trunk key. Now the good news.. other than the floormat and the 2 holes in the headliner the interior is excellent. The body is rust free DOES NOT need floors ,frame , rockers , fenders doors etc.. look at photos of under hood... a powerwash and paint and done. The mileage is 45,237. I don't know if that is it but it looks like it. This car underneath is amazing for its age. It came with a master cylinder rebuild kit, 2 new rear drums, a new fuel tank and a new sender. It is a great project starter . Just picture it will a 427 and 4 speed, or a 5.0 with tremec or a coyote with 6 speed, or as it is. 1961 Mercury Comet coupe. Straight 6 cyl, 1 bbl carb, automatic. Runs, drives, stops but NEEDs WORK. Not freeway safe. Could use a very healthy tune up, exhaust manifold gasket, carb rebuild, brake inspection and a fresh tank of gas. Straight with exception to a bump in the hood. No deep rust, minor surface rust, no bubbles. Floor pans are solid. Trunk is solid. Appears to have a little bondo around the rear wheel well. No other bondo was found on inspection. Paint not perfect and not original. There are areas where the paint is faded, pealing, and weathering. Front seat and headliner are in poor shape, rear seat is very nice. The car is currently registered and is an original CA car. It has been sitting for about 2 years untouched. This barn find needs love. It fired right up with a little starting fluid, but again, it needs work. Pink in hand, motivated to sell.
