Absolutely Great Look! 1960 Austin Healey Sprite 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite Mark I "Nut and Bolt" Rotisserie Restoration of a California Car Fitted with Factory Correct Hardtop and Completed in Racing Motif _________________________________________ NOTE: Our listings are rather lengthy. They not only describe this particular car but also some history of the make/model, considerations in buying a classic car and facts about our firm. However, we continually hear from out of state / out of country buyers (many of our clients) that they prefer the level of detail that we provide. However, if you are not prepared to read the full listing, please read the OVERVIEW below along with the PHOTOGRAPHS at the bottom. If you'd prefer, please call us at 925-846-1451 and we'll gladly discuss the Sprite and answer any questions over the telephone, including our "Buy it Now" policy. Yes, the Sprite can be purchased prior to the end of the eBay auction. PHOTOGRAPHS PLEASE NOTE: EACH TIME WE LIST A VEHICLE ON eBbay WE RECEIVE COMMENTS THAT THERE ARE NO PHOTOS OF THE INTERIOR, ENGINE, UNDERCARRIAGE, ETC. OF THE CAR. THERE ARE CLOSE TO 100 PHOTOS OF ALL AREAS OF THIS SPRITE, BUT WHEN YOU REACH WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE LAST PHOTO, YOU WILL NEED TO SCROLL DOWN ON eBay TO VIEW THE REMAINING PHOTOS. IF YOU ARE STILL UNABLE TO SEE THEM, PLEASE CALL US AT 925-846-1451 AND WE WILL PROVIDE A DIRECT LINK. NOTE: IT IS A VIOLATION OF eBbay POLICY FOR US TO LIST THE URL ON THE eBay LISTING. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS OF ANY PART OF THE SPRITE. INTRODUCTION This car is offered at a realistic price and, unlike bidding on cars in an auction environment, you will have the benefit of extensive information and history on the car prior to making a buying decision. Equally as important is the fact that Classic Cars Ltd. has been in business for 20+ years and enjoys an excellent national / international relationship with nearly 800 positive eBay feedback responses. Please keep in mind that we will gladly... 1. Answer any questions over the telephone and take the time to guide prospective customers through the buying process (925-846-1451). 2. Assist with locating a quality, suitable transporter at very competitive prices. 3. Provide proof that we are licensed, bonded (for the financial transaction), fully insured, and operate from an established showroom environment. 4. Provide feedback from previous buyers, and specific references for vehicle purchases in your area (we also ask that you view our detailed eBay feedback by clicking on the number to the right of the eBay user name) 5. Offer additional information including specific photographs or clarification of any part of our description of the vehicle Thank you again, please let me know if I can be of assistance. Happy "eBaying"! Paul R. Wankle, Pres. Classic Cars Ltd. Pleasanton, CA 925-846-1451 OVERVIEW-THIS PARTICULAR 1960 AUSTIN-HEALEY BUGEYE SPRITE This smart looking 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite was the subject of a "nut and bolt" rotisserie restored and has been recently freshened / updated for its new owner to fully enjoy. It has been done in a period-correct racing motif (easily converted to a street appearance by the removal of magnetic numbers on the doors, hood and trunk area). Anywhere it goes; it will bring out smiles, particularly to the driver. Major features include: - Stock 948 cc engine; dual SU carburetors - Stock 4 speed transmission; synchromesh gears 2-4 - Factory correct green engine and transmission paint - New wiring harness - Sharp yellow paint scheme with wide white racing stripe - Factory correct, fully restored white hardtop - Black interior with white seat piping - New brake system - Slotted aluminum wheels with new tires NOTE: We will offer the factory hardtop to the buyer of the car but will consider adjusting the price should the buyer have an interest in the Bugeye without the hardtop. DETAILS-THIS PARTICULAR 1960 AUSTIN-HEALEY BUGEYE SPRITE MARK I HISTORY OF THIS 1960 BUGEYE SPRITE This particular Bugeye, affectionately named "'Ol Yeller" by its California owner, was used as a daily driver and also entered in occasional local auto-cross or gymkhana events "in the day." As was common during this era, the car was only fitted with lap belts and never received a roll bar or other modifications. In the 1960's the philosophy was "Run what you brung" (a philosophy of actually driving the car you raced on track or in a parking lot to the event) and "Ol Yeller" was right at home with the other "new" (at the time) Healey's, Triumph's, MG's, Porsche's and other sports cars. "Ol Yeller" is a beautiful example of an Austin-Healey Sprite that underwent a comprehensive "Rotisserie" restoration several years ago. Since that time, the car has been used sparingly, never in the elements and has developed a lovely patina. Overall, it shows quite well although a close critical inspection reveals cosmetic imperfections including minor chips, paint flaws and other cosmetic flaws. However, perhaps most important is the car remains very solid with good door and hood fitment and very high gloss paint, polished cockpit trim and other upgrades (more on that later). Reportedly an original California car, the car was owned by one owner for over 30 years. When it was sold to the most recent owner, he invested a considerable sum to have the Bugeye completely restored from top to bottom; often referred to as a "Nut & Bolt" restoration. The photographs show the car being prepared for paint, on the rotisserie, engine out, interior out and suspension and other components removed from the car. While the Bugeye remains in virtually stock mechanical configuration, it has received some wonderful cosmetic touches that give the car a "period" sports / racing appearance. Specifically, the bright yellow paint-work is accented by a wide racing stripe that covers the grille, top of the bonnet and the rear portions of the car. "60" numbers (often referred to as "meatballs") have been added to the doors, hood and trunk (magnetic and removable). Classic, period aluminum slotted wheels adorn the car and are wrapped with brand new tires with fewer than 100 miles. Perhaps most important, the car is fitted with a proper factory (our "experts" tell us) hardtop that has just been totally restored and painted to match the white trim on the Bugeye. It gives the car an absolutely striking appearance and is a very sought after addition owners of Bugeye's. Anyone who has done a restoration knows it is expensive! The above description does not include all of the many details involved. The reserve price is well below what it would cost to achieve this level of restoration on your own. "THE NUMBERS" VIN # AN5AL40869 Appears to be the proper sequence VIN# for year 1960 ENGINE NUMBER 9CUH32820 9C = 948cc engine U = Center change gearbox H = High compression MECHANICAL - Stock 948 cc engine w/ dual SU carburetors; Austin-Healey green - Stock 4-speed smooth case transmission; synchromesh gears 2-4; Austin-Healey green - Very nice drivability - Rear wheel drive - Ansen style slotted aluminum wheels - Four new Achilles Platinum 165/65R13 tires - Jack in rear compartment (non stock) - Renewed drum braking system - New rear axle seals - Good "synchros" (2nd-4th) & clutch - New wiring harness (not cloth type) - New stainless steel gas tank - New brake wheel cylinders and needed braking components - Functional emergency brake EXTERIOR - Clean straight body - Beautiful restored factory hardtop in fresh white paint - Excellent bonnet with good gaps - Body is free from damage - Yellow paint with period style wide white "racing stripe" - "Meatball" period racing numbers "60" (1960 Bugeye) - Stock rear bumperettes painted yellow to match car - Front bumper removed in keeping with the more aggressive appearance of the Bugeye (and lighter weight) INTERIOR - Lovely Black seats / white piping in - Excellent black carpet that extends fully to the rear - 3-spoke 13" custom American Racing steering wheel with functional horn - Analog gauges; all function with readings well within acceptable range - Functional windshield wipers - Operational turn signals, lights and other electrical systems - Recently updated chrome latch seat belts (passenger & driver) - Non-operational heater/defroster (blower removed and not included but can be located from aftermarket sources) - Original body numbers remain in place on the door jambs COSMETIC CONDITION As a result of the restoration, the Sprite is in nice cosmetic condition both inside and out. The extensive photographs reflect the car's condition including the body, paint, engine compartment, interior, rear compartment and underside. The exterior paint shows nice with very high gloss two stage paint and good panel fit. The front bonnet closes and is secured by a turn of a homemade handle replacing the original chrome unit. The engine compartment is clean and free from excessive oil, grease and overspray. The entire engine bay received the benefit of an "engine out", suspension removed re-spray at the time of the restoration. While the body of the Sprite suggests evidence of professional rust repair during the restoration, the work was very well done. Undercoating was not applied in an attempt to hide anything so the body color appears on the inner fender wells, door jambs, under hood and even the front suspension components (refer to photos). The floor panels and other areas are extremely clean. While the windshield itself is good, the windshield rubber is quite dry, and "checked." MECHANICAL CONDITION - RUNNING / DRIVING The Sprite starts immediately with the use of the functional choke and warms up quickly. It idles smoothly and does not overheat. The engine is strong and the Bugeye runs and drives very well. There is no smoke, leaking (outside of the characteristic British car "seepage" or, as the British refer to it; English rust proofing!), or unusual noise and this is also true of the transmission and drive-line components. The Sprite has good power through all of the gears and does not hesitate or exhibit drivability problems The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch engages and does not chatter or make noise. The car does not pop out of gear and shifts are short and precise. The recently replaced brakes stop the car straight and sure. The emergency brake is fully functional and holds the car on a relatively steep incline. The steering is tight and precise and the car offers handling that will leave the driver with a smile for miles to come. The current odometer reading is 33,251 miles and is working. We are listing the mileage as "TMU" (Total Miles Unknown) as a result of the age of the vehicle and the fact that it is mileage exempt in virtually every state / country. The Bugeye will be sold as photographed / shown unless the buyer is not interested in the factory hardtop in which case we ask that a price for the car be negotiated BEFORE the end of the auction. Below are a few additional facts pertaining to this Bugeye: - The car does not include side windows or a convertible top (both are available used and/or through aftermarket sources. - The hardtop is painted white underneath but is unfinished (no headliner). - A mounted spare wheel tire (not from a Bugeye but with same bolt pattern and functional as a spare), non original jack & handle. The car was designed by the Healey Motor Company, more specifically Donald Healey, and produced in partnership with the British Motor Corporation (BMC). There were three series of the Sprite. The first series (Mark 1) was produced from 1958 through 1961, with approximately 49,000 examples being sent to the USA. In the United States, the cars were called "Bugeye's", while in the UK they were commonly known as "Frogeye's". Each of the names evolved from the headlights mounted on the top of hood that resemble a frog and/or bug. The body was very smooth and flowing. There were no door handles; to open the door, the inside handle would need to be operated. The trunk did not open but was accessed through an opening behind the seats. Up front, the entire front hood hinged upwards, allowing easy and convenient access to the engine. The mechanical components were borrowed, in an effort to reduce the cost of production, from a number of vehicles that were already available in the marketplace. The suspension was from the Austin A-35 while the basic engine was courtesy of the Morris Minor. The 948 cc engine was based on the Morris Motor Company A-series but fitted with dual SU carburetors increasing the horsepower from 37 to 43. Coil springs and wishbones were in the front while the rear was a semi-elliptical leaf spring configuration. A rack-and-pinion steering unit controlled the car, drum brakes provided the stopping power, and a four-speed manual gearbox sent power to the rear wheels. Bugeye's had a plethora of new technology for the era, mainly found in their innovative D-Type Jaguar inspired chassis. As the Bugeye Sprites took to the streets, the race track also became a familiar home. A Sprite won their class in the 1958 Alpine Rally among other significant events, often against larger more powerful race cars. The original Sprite was a popular vehicle for many reasons, including its small size, sporty nature, and overall low cost of operation. The original versions cost approximately $2000. The cars were easy to maintain, offered great handling and epitomized the British Sports car experience of the 1950's / 1960's. While the cars were certainly not considered high performance, they were geared to have "zippy" performance in the lower ranges. Today, Bugeye / Frogeyes have become increasingly difficult to locate for a variety of reasons. While large numbers of cars were produced, the cars were prone to significant rust (especially in "rust zones" in the USA), and many cars didn't survive past the 1970's. Also, a large number of cars were entered in a variety of Motorsports events including road racing, auto crossing and other events where the cars did extremely well and established a number of records. PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to: - How long have they been in business? - How much experience do they have with collector cars? - How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)? - How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle? - Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "glamour shots" taken from a distance? - Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction? - What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license? - Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances? - Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation? - Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales? ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD. - Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same, small, California town for over 20 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar", indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles. - The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair. We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions. - We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping. - Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 780 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World. - We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World. - Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions - We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area. MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION - As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet. - In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, a documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser's responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license/registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law. - We encourage telephone calls to discuss this vehicle in greater detail. Also, if you would prefer that we call you to answer any questions about the vehicle; shipping alternatives, etc. please e-mail us with your telephone number and will gladly get back in touch with you. - We encourage inspections of this Sprite by serious, qualified individuals or professional inspectors prior to the end of the auction. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time. - As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd. - Minor cosmetic issues/flaws are present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle. Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!! - The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources. As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering. Out of state buyers are responsible for the high bid and any shipping costs. California buyers are subject to the appropriate sales tax, DMV transfer, and fees associated with the purchase of any used vehicle sale in the state of California. To avoid shipping the title with the car to our out of state buyers, we mail the title via Priority Mail. Please be certain that you are prepared to buy the car if you bid, or call us at 925-846-1451 before the end of the auction if we can answer any questions. If you have a "sunglass" rating or fewer than 10 feedback ratings on eBay, please call us before you bid so that we can discuss the bidding process, etc. If we do not hear from you, we reserve the right to delete your bid. ColorBlueInterior ColorBlueTitleClearOne thing is for certain, after 15+ years of selling high-end classic cars I have never seen another Wagon quite like this one! Now sitting on our showroom floor here @ ‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is this absolutely beautiful numbers matching 1963 Chevrolet Impala 9-Passenger Station Wagon, recent winner of the Goodguys ‘Period-Correct’ Award in Pleasanton California! According to the original Cowl Tag, this rare jewel was built on the 5th week of November 1962 (11E) @ the Los Angeles assembly plant, and then was sold new @ John Drew Chevrolet in Sacramento California. This ultra-rare Impala Wagon left the factory with ALL of the right options, that’s for sure! Finished in factory correct (Code 914) Monaco Blue Metallic wrapped around the factory correct (Code 842) Two-Tone Medium Blue/Light Blue Vinyl interior, with original factory options that include: 327/300hp High Performance engine, Borg-Warner T10 4-Speed Manual Transmission, 3.36 Posi-traction rear axle, Factory Tachometer, Four Seasons Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Front Seat, Power Rear Window, Deluxe Grill Guard, Deluxe Chrome Roof Rack, and AM Pushbutton Radio. Yes, this is a Factory 4-Speed ’63 Impala Wagon loaded w/ options! Have you ever seen another one? This ’63 Impala Wagon spent its entire life in sunny California and ultimately underwent a complete restoration in 2013. All of the original sheet metal was 100% rust free throughout, which really made the restoration process much, much easier. She was professionally refinished in factory correct Monaco Blue Metallic, which is absolutely gorgeous & literally explodes in the sunlight. All of the hard-to-find stainless trim & brightwork is excellent throughout! The entire interior is 95% original to the car and is absolutely MINT throughout! Look closely at the photos and see how spectacular the interior is on this rare Impala Wagon! All of the gauges, light, blinkers, etc. work perfectly, and even the ‘Cold’ light goes on when first started. The clock keeps perfect time and the lighter pops out hot! This is a very special Wagon indeed! Open the hood and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay you will find the original numbers matching 327/300hp motor with engine stamp (F1107RK), which tells us it was built on November 7th 1962. The (RK) suffix code reflects a 327/300hp motor w/ Manual Transmission & Air Conditioning. The original numbers matching motor is linked to the original numbers matching Borg-Warner T10 4-Speed Transmission, which is stamped (WL2621) December 26 1962 1st Shift, as well as a partial VIN stamp. The original numbers matching 4-Speed transmission feeds power to the original 3.36 Posi-traction rear axle, which is stamped (BM1126) 3.36 Posi November 26th. This all-original drivetrain was gone through from front to back and completely rebuilt to factory specifications. This Wagon starts up with the flick of the wrist, no cranking necessary, and settles into a nice smooth idle. She runs, drives, steers, brakes & performs beautifully in every way, and is one of the finest driving classic cars that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The strong-running 327/300hp motor has unexpected power & torque, and the Borg-Warner T10 4-Speed transmission shifts smooth as butter with no grinding or weird noises whatsoever. Again, I have driven hundreds & hundreds of classic cars/muscle cars and this 1963 Chevrolet Impala Wagon is up at the top of the list! I would not hesitate to jump in this Wagon and drive her across the country, if I only had the time! Anywhere that I take this Impala Wagon, there is a huge crowd surrounding her within minutes. I mean really, how many 4-Speed Impala Station Wagons have you seen around lately…or ever? Don’t feel too bad, because no one else has either! Based in Saint George, Utah, R.H.R.C. was founded by Steven Ray Anastos after he relocated to Utah from Southern California. Steven has been dealing in high-end Mopar Muscle Cars since 2003 where he did business in California under the name "Steve’s Killer Bees". Having ridden motorcycles his whole life, he decided to expand the business by dealing in Custom Choppers, Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles in addition to his growing Muscle Car and Hot Rod business. The stunning landscape, beautiful weather, open roads and no helmet laws make Utah the perfect place for such a business. After finding the ideal location with tons of visibility, Steven opened a brand new showroom in Saint George and plans on being around a very long time. The showroom is very unique as there is nothing else like it in Southern Utah. The area is starving for a taste of the Hot Rod Kulture and R.H.R.C. plans on getting in on the ground floor. They sell Helmets, Goggles, Sunglasses, Hats, Beanies, Jewelry, DVD’s, Books and Hot Rod Collectibles such as Rat Fink, Von Dutch, Clay Smith and Mooneyes. They also market their own line of R.H.R.C. apparel. Much of their business has been and will continue to be internet-based, especially the sale of their high-end Muscle Cars and Hot Rods as many of them are in the six-figure category. They intend to start selling these rare vehicles locally as there seems to be quite a following for Muscle Cars, Hot Rods and Motorcycles in the Southern Utah area. R.H.R.C. holds Car Shows and Special Events monthly at their Saint George location so stop by and see their incredible selection of inventory. If you are not already on their mailing list, please call or email with your contact information and they will keep you informed of any and all events. This auction is a legally binding contract to buy this vehicle.
