This 9,922-mile coupe is an exceptional example of just that. Pampered and paraded its entire life, this Dodge is an impressive time capsule that'll transport you back to the days when stellar performance outshined raw horsepower! BODYWORK/TRIM The inaugural year of the Stealth, the 1991 model, was key in establishing Dodge as a major player in America's re-invigorated sports car market. Averaging just under 414 miles per year since rolling out of the showroom, this impressive MoPar appears to have rarely seen anything other than sunshine and warm summer days. Lift this coupe's smooth hood and you'll find a 3.0 liter, naturally aspirated V6 that spins 160 horsepower into a modest 184 lb./ft. of torque. What that means is you get sparkling performance, good reliability and some pretty docile street manners in a package that's ripe for tuning. And by 1991, when the Dodge Stealth bowed, virtually every new-age gearhead knew three essential truths. 1) If you wanted to look cool, you bought an ES. 2) If you wanted to look cool and go fast, you bought an R/T. 3) If you wanted to look cool, go fast and kick asphalt, you bought an R/T Twin Turbo! Averaging less than 1,500 miles per year, this Far East Mopar has rarely seen anything other than sunshine and warm summer days. A quick check of the car's undercarriage and suspension reveals no evidence of rust or abuse. A quick check of its profile presents a body that appears to have never been repaired. And a quick check of our pictures confirms its Firestorm Red paint, which happens to be one of only 1,048 coats issued for 1991 twin turbos, is both glossy and bright. That's right, even 22 years after it rolled out of the showroom this spry sports coupe is still turning heads! With its low nose, muscular haunches and wide stance, the Stealth is a model of early-90s cool. At the front of the car, an aggressive air dam hangs halogen fog lights beneath a stamped "DODGE" script and glossy, pop-up headlamps. Above those headlamps, a large, flat hood leads the eye past fade-free shock caps to like-new glass that's flanked by aerodynamic C-pillars and branded with "DOHC 24V ALL WHEEL DRIVE" decals. Below those decals, ridged fenders flow into sculpted doors that hang body-matched mirrors and flush-fit handles above aggressive, "TWIN TURBO" branded rockers. Behind those rockers, a tall decklid spoiler floats between a thoughtful windshield wiper and standard electric antenna. And at the back of the car, clear tail lights combine with bright reverse lamps to reflect monochromatic "DODGE" "STEALTH R/T" scripts off of spotless stainless exhaust tips. This Dodge's Mitsubishi-designed, twin-turbo powertrain benefits from technology that was very advanced for its time. The core of that powertrain is a DOHC 24-valve 3.0-liter 6-cylinder which sports electronic fuel injection, aluminum heads, factory roller rockers and, of course, two turbochargers. Those turbos, intercooled via intakes incorporated into the front air dam, make the smooth mill good for 296 horsepower and 306 lb./ft. of torque. And, since all that horsepower and technological goodness could be had in a relatively light package for about half the price of Dodge's V10 flagship, it was generally viewed as wise economics. Twin Turbo Stealths came standard with a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission feeding a full-time all-wheel drive system. That system's 45 front/55 rear power split gives the car catapult-like acceleration in any weather condition, while 4-wheel steering provides additional stability during high speed cornering. At low speeds, the car's electronics are completely transparent, almost entirely unnoticeable and almost exactly replicating normal two-wheel steering and normal front wheel drive. A dual-mode exhaust system opens the mufflers for more power at high engine speeds; giving the car an aggressive bark while maintaining a day-to-day rumble that won't wake the neighbors. The electronically controlled, variable-rate 4-wheel independent suspension does an excellent job tightening apexes or loosening tension. Stops come courtesy of 4-piston calipers, which squeeze 16-inch rotors up front and 15-inch rotors out back. Power is put to the pavement through 17-inch Chrysler alloys which spin 245/45 Kumho Ecstas around pentastar shaped center caps. And overall, this Stealth is sure-footed, feels surprisingly fast, and is an absolute blast to drive! And the real kicker was: Dodge's outsourced pocket rocket was exceptionally nice to drive, mixing speed and efficiency with impressive technology and modern comfort. So what happens when that world-beating technology IS mixed with brute power? You get a sinister MoPar sensation that, thanks to $50K worth of modifications and 506 dyno-proven wheel horsepower, will literally make you smile every time you hit the open road! BODYWORK/TRIM By 1992, the Nagoya, Japan-built Stealth had become an established player in America's re-invigorated sports car market. Virtually every gearhead knew if you wanted to look cool, you bought an ES. If you wanted to look cool and go fast, you bought an R/T. And if you wanted to look cool, go fast and kick asphalt, you bought an R/T Twin Turbo. Featuring a host of top-notch performance upgrades, this 1-owner coupe takes the "go fast" and turns it all the way up to "SCARY FAST"! An AEM water/methanol injection system helps prevent detonation. And, deeper in the cycle, spry MSD ignition jives with Precision Turbo injectors, which are piped to a high-flow fuel supply via tough AN fittings. High quality ancillaries, like a Turbosmart dual port blow off valve and HKS Twin Power ignition amplifier, round out the all-star modifications. And everything rides between a full array of 3SX mounts, a polished 3SX plenum and mirrored 3SX accent covers. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION An enhanced take on factory specifications, this Stealth utilizes a 3SX Stage 4 Plus clutch to kick a 5-speed R&R transaxle, which engages an 18-spline hardened steel output and fresh, 3-piece driveshaft to command full-time all-wheel drive. That all-wheel drive system, which is fitted with stainless 3SX front and mid transfer cases, provides catapult-like acceleration in any weather; especially when the boost is set to high! The company literally OWNED the '50s and '60s, and no matter how much corporate bean counters tried to quell its spirit of performance, true gearheads ALWAYS kept the flame lit. And I'm not talking about Corvettes or the incredible Cadillac V-Series. I'm talking about offerings that are fast, fun and highly attainable. In the early 21st century, the guys at Pontiac worked with GM's Holden division to bring world-class muscle to American shores. During the '80s, Buick's bad-to-the-bone Grand National proudly separated the winners from the losers. In the mid-'90s, Chevrolet's visionary Impala SS brought a new sense of cool to the full-size segment. And in the early '90s, it was this compact GMC land rocket that drew comparisons to the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. All black, all business and packed with Professional Grade performance hardware, this prim and polished pickup backs turbocharged V6 power with factory all-wheel drive and a tuned sport suspension! BODYWORK/TRIM Feeling especially whimsical, and privy to leftover parts from its empire of mass transportation appliances, GM set the automotive marketplace on its ear with a curve ball known as 'the 1991 Syclone'. But, unfortunately, the corporation's own bureaucracy killed the world-beating truck almost as fast as it hit dealerships, limiting production to 2,995 units. This Syclone's wet-looking coat of GM code 19 Black highlights original sheetmetal that's both crisp and sharp. The truck's vertical panels center straight surfaces in even gaps, showing no signs of damage or accident repairs. And, topped by great looking, factory-correct trim, the finish on those panels is every bit as glossy as it is deep. ENGINE Speaking of survivors, and GM's core strengths, if anyone ever creates an ultimate engine survivors list the corporation's stalwart Vortec 4300 V6 will surely be at the top. Introduced in 1985, that rugged powerplant has been a mainstay in most of the general's light truck offerings and, in massively re-engineered EcoTec3 guise, continues as the company's entry-level lump for the current Silverado and Sierra. For Syclone duty, the LB4 4300 saw significant mechanical upgrades that included better pistons, freer intake and exhaust manifolds, a Mitsubishi TD06-17C turbocharger, a Garrett water/air intercooler and a 48mm twin-bore throttle body that was borrowed from Chevrolet's 5.7 liter V8. All those carefully calculated tweaks and improvements added up to a very impressive 280 horsepower and 350 lb./ft. of V8-slaying torque. And the truck's strip-scorching times would not only best GM's own Camaro and Corvette, but also catapult it to the forefront of '90s performance! Mechanically, the low-mileage mill, which is 100% stock inside and out, benefitted from extensive service work last May. Everything, from the block's dry oil pan to its pliable air tube, is clean, lean and weather-free. And one glance at our high-resolution pictures is all it takes to see that this GMC has likely never seen anything more than carefully planned miles on sunny summer days. DRIVETRAIN With that kind of power on tap, it should come as no surprise that GM equipped the bottom of this pickup with a host of noteworthy upgrades. Behind the raucous engine, a reliable 700R4 automatic makes the most of four forward gears. That gearbox twists torque to a Borg Warner all-wheel drive system, which sends 35% of its power to the front wheels. Speaking of front wheels, this truck's 9-inch meats are pointed by factory power steering. Speaking of power-assist, the truck's power-assisted brake system is one of the first to be fully accompanied by standard anti-lock technology. At the center of the tuned sport suspension, factory-spec single-into-dual pipes hang big turbo mufflers behind a conservative catalytic converter. And power meets the pavement through beefy GM alloys, which spin 245/50ZR16 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports around requisite red "GMC" logos. INTERIOR Inside this awesome street bruiser you'll find a correct Gray and Black interior that's virtually spotless. Typical GMC fashion dictates more comfort than sport, but then, that's what GM's premium truck brand has increasingly gravitated toward. And naturally, that means this Syclone is loaded with all the features you'd expect including power windows, power locks, climate control, cruise control and a tilt steering wheel. In front of that wheel, red-piped factory buckets are still firm to the touch. Opposite those seats, factory-spec, Pontiac-sourced gauges inhabit a blocky dash that's free of warps and cracks. And, as any JDM diehard will tell you, finding a Stealth that hasn't seen more than its fair share of track days is becoming increasingly difficult. Well, until now... This 32,002 mile Stealth R/T Twin Turbo is an exceptional example of just that. Pampered and paraded its entire life, this Dodge is an impressive time capsule that'll transport you back to the days when stellar performance outshined raw horsepower! In 1990, Mitsubishi's Nagoya-built GTO stormed America's re-invigorated sports car market. And by 1991, when the Dodge Stealth bowed, virtually every new-age gearhead knew three essential truths. 1) If you wanted to look cool, you bought an ES. 2) If you wanted to look cool and go fast, you bought an R/T. 3) If you wanted to look cool, go fast and kick asphalt, you bought an R/T Twin Turbo! Averaging less than 1,500 miles per year, this Far East Mopar has rarely seen anything other than sunshine and warm summer days. A quick check of the car's undercarriage and suspension reveals no evidence of rust or abuse. A quick check of its profile presents a body that appears to have never been repaired. And a quick check of our pictures confirms its Firestorm Red paint, which happens to be one of only 1,048 coats issued for 1991 twin turbos, is both glossy and bright. That's right, even 22 years after it rolled out of the showroom this spry sports coupe is still turning heads! With its low nose, muscular haunches and wide stance, the Stealth is a model of early-90s cool. At the front of the car, an aggressive air dam hangs halogen fog lights beneath a stamped "DODGE" script and glossy, pop-up headlamps. Above those headlamps, a large, flat hood leads the eye past fade-free shock caps to like-new glass that's flanked by aerodynamic C-pillars and branded with "DOHC 24V ALL WHEEL DRIVE" decals. Below those decals, ridged fenders flow into sculpted doors that hang body-matched mirrors and flush-fit handles above aggressive, "TWIN TURBO" branded rockers. Behind those rockers, a tall decklid spoiler floats between a thoughtful windshield wiper and standard electric antenna. And at the back of the car, clear tail lights combine with bright reverse lamps to reflect monochromatic "DODGE" "STEALTH R/T" scripts off of spotless stainless exhaust tips. In the early 90s, factory performance wars finally started heating up again. But this time, instead of Chevy, Ford and Mopar duking it out, the battle involved Japan's finest. Sure, the Viper made its debut, and the Corvette was still around, but those beasts were in a different league; and the price of admission to that league was steep. So, the Japanese automakers identified a niche for affordable sports cars, and the fight commenced. This Dodge's Mitsubishi-designed, twin-turbo powertrain benefits from technology that was very advanced for its time. The core of that powertrain is a DOHC 24-valve 3.0-liter 6-cylinder which sports electronic fuel injection, aluminum heads, factory roller rockers and, of course, two turbochargers. Those turbos, intercooled via intakes incorporated into the front air dam, make the smooth mill good for 296 horsepower and 306 lb./ft. of torque. And, since all that horsepower and technological goodness could be had in a relatively light package for about half the price of Dodge's V10 flagship, it was generally viewed as wise economics. Aesthetically, the engine compartment in this Stealth is 100% original and in pristine, factory condition. And, decked mostly in black, it's a serious looking piece with just a hint of color here and there to add both texture and contrast. Twin Turbo Stealths came standard with a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission feeding a full-time all-wheel drive system. That system's 45 front/55 rear power split gives the car catapult-like acceleration in any weather condition, while 4-wheel steering provides additional stability during high speed cornering. At low speeds, the car's electronics are completely transparent, almost entirely unnoticeable and almost exactly replicating normal two-wheel steering and normal front wheel drive. A dual-mode exhaust system opens the mufflers for more power at high engine speeds; giving the car an aggressive bark while maintaining a day-to-day rumble that won't wake the neighbors. The electronically controlled, variable-rate 4-wheel independent suspension does an excellent job tightening apexes or loosening tension. Stops come courtesy of 4-piston calipers, which squeeze 16-inch rotors up front and 15-inch rotors out back. Power is put to the pavement through 17-inch Chrysler alloys which spin 245/45 Kumho Ecstas around pentastar shaped center caps. And overall, this Stealth is sure-footed, feels surprisingly fast, and is an absolute blast to drive!
