But at the end of the day, one thing is certain: it didn't take long for EVERYONE to join the party. And by 1970, the tried and true formula for Oldsmobile's storied 442 produced well-groomed street fighters like this incredible W30 hardtop. The subject of a 3-year, ground-up restoration, this razor-sharp Olds is a fully documented classic that wraps a numbers-matching drivetrain in all-original sheetmetal. If you're in the market for a first-class muscle car, it's time to stop debating and start calling! BODYWORK/TRIM A factory-correct car that reportedly hails from the dry climate of west Texas, this top notch A-Body features a solid, all-original profile that's covered in clean, Classic White 2-stage. That paint, and the traditional gold stripes that complement it, is a direct result of an extensive, 3-year restoration that wrapped up in the Spring of 2015. And today, five figures in to the future, this 442 is a timeless muscle car that intimidates like a cruise missile and shines like the family's best silver. Oldsmobile's modernist, mid-century design aesthetic was no doubt a play on its engineering leadership within the GM hierarchy, and the cars that proudly carry those lines continue to weather exceptionally well. At the front of this coupe, a 442-specific grille centers monochromatic "442" lettering between stainless-trimmed T3 headlights and a bright chrome bumper that's finished with clear parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a fiberglass ram air hood leads the eye to like-new glass that rides behind straight stainless frames. At the sides of that hood, traditional GM door handles and color-keyed sport mirrors perfectly complement clean marker lamps, dent-free wheel rings and a slick combination of "442" and "W-30" fender emblems. And at the back of the car, a "442" branded decklid hangs a factory wing above a second chrome bumper, silver-trimmed taillights and correct, trumpeted exhaust tips. ENGINE Hoist this Olds' scooped hood and you'll find an original, 455 cubic inch Rocket V8 that's branded with a correct 396021F casting number and matching partial VIN. Professionally rebuilt and fully detailed, that red hot mill is a reliable, big-port big block that, in factory form, twists stout 10.5 to 1 compression into a quick 370 horsepower! Stomp the throttle and a restored Rochester 4-barrel mixes juice from leak-free fuel lines with wind from a correct W-30 air cleaner, and shoves it in to a Winters aluminum intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor feeds fire through proven Packard TV R Suppression Cables, which snake around correct "F" heads and stamped and painted valve covers. Below those covers, freshly restored exhaust manifolds shoot charred dinosaurs in to big, true-dual pipes. Mechanically, the stout engine is all day reliable, spinning 500 lb./ft. of rock-crushing torque from one of the largest and most powerful valvetrains ever created. Aesthetically, familiar plastic fenders and Metallic Blue block skin look fantastic against the car's clean body. There's a roster of high quality ancillaries that includes factory air conditioning and a correct Delco Moraine brake booster. And the entire set up flat out rocks, from its fresh decals and pliable GM hoses to its color-keyed intake springs and Delco-topped battery. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The bottom of this awesome 442 is completely solid, showing no signs of undue wear or question-inducing battle scars. The aforementioned Rocket fronts an original 3-speed, which hangs a correct "70 - OW" assembly tag opposite a matching partial VIN. That tough transmission sends power to a stout, 12-bolt axle. That driveline pushes a familiar Heavy Duty Suspension, which, along with the car's chassis, was thoroughly marked and tagged during the detailed restoration. Solid stops are provided by rebuilt front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns come courtesy of a familiar Saginaw gearbox, which is piped to factory power steering. At the center of the floors, aluminized exhaust pipes funnel spent gases through baritone turbo mufflers. And everything rolls on charcoal SSIIs, which spin 225/70R14 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around polished trim rings and rocket-branded center caps. INTERIOR This impressive coupe's correct, well-optioned interior is so fresh it looks like it just rolled out of the upholstery shop. At the center of the car, stainless-trimmed seats ride on fade-free carpet that's protected by "442 W-30" branded floor mats. At the sides of those seats, clean door panels center familiar GM armrests behind convenient power windows and optional power door locks. A wood-trimmed dash hangs deluxe telemetry above simple AC controls, optional audio equipment and a hidden button that actuates the car's sizeable trunk. At the base of that dash, a slim console frames a slim Hurst shifter. In front of the driver, a Sport Steering Wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, the aforementioned trunk anchors a fifth SSII and vintage Goodyear Polyglas between a small light, correct tools, bright decals and a fresh mat. HISTORICAL INFORMATION It's pretty easy to confirm this handsome Oldsmobile's status as an authentic 442. Here's a look at the car's 442-specific VIN and Cowl Tag. Sure, you can go the LS5 or LS6 Chevelle route, but the best bowties will set you back a small house or two. And the same goes for the most desirable members of Buick's GS family and Pontiac's GTO line. Well, what if we said you could take home a magazine-featured, national award-winning example of a limited production A-body, which many GM enthusiasts aren't even aware of, for under $40K? That's probably enough to get your undivided attention, right? In addition to being a loud, broad-shouldered hunk of the rocket division's best metal, this Oldsmobile is 1 of just 3,547 Cutlass Rallye 350s ever produced. Restored with an acute attention to detail, the car features a roster of correct parts that range from an original engine all the way down to a sorted FE2 suspension. And best of all, these qualities exist within a balanced, fun-to-drive classic that doesn't require a second mortgage! HISTORY/CREATION Historically, the Rallye 350 is a pretty interesting piece. The Big Three seemed to understand that the muscle-car era was a bubble that would eventually be popped by rising insurance costs and increased government regulation. And in the case of Oldsmobile, prolonging the inevitable meant creating a fun, affordable car that was capable of turning heads using a rather conservative small block. To ramp up appeal, Olds compiled various trim pieces into a unique visual package that's highlighted by Sebring Yellow paint and very aggressive striping. Up front, a black, silver-trimmed grille, borrowed from the Cutlass S, rides between a urethane-coated bumper and pinned 442 W25 hood. Styled Steel II wheels join painted sport mirrors and trumpeted exhaust tips to mix a little function into form. And out back, a 442 W35 wing floats over black-trimmed taillights and a second urethane-coated bumper. The end result is a brand of visual punch that's simply unmatched by anything this side of Chrysler's brightest Hi Impact pastels. And, in reality, the package might've been a bit too risqu for Olds' traditionally conservative buyer base, resulting in relatively low production numbers and a high level of exclusivity. BODYWORK During a 4.5-year restoration that was completed in early 1995, this solid Cutlass was thoroughly stripped, carefully disassembled and treated to entirely new body panels with the exception of its floors, roof and driver's door. After hours of hard work, the car's clean profile presented itself as an excellent foundation for correct Sebring Yellow 2-stage. And today, one close look at our high-resolution photos reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one of the coolest looking muscle cars on the planet! ENGINE When this Olds' restorer found his new project listed deep in the classifieds, it had been upfitted with a 455 cubic inch big block. Fortunately, the seller had retained the car's original L74 Rocket 350 and was willing to include it with the sale. Hoist the fiberglass hood and you'll find that original mill proudly displaying a correct 395558 casting number in front of a matching partial VIN. At the top of the nickel-infused block, a big Quadrajet 4-barrel mixes juice from leak-free fuel lines with wind that's supplied by a correct, low-restriction air cleaner. That air/fuel mixture travels in to a high performance intake that's anchored by a traditional points distributor. That distributor feeds fire through proven Packard TV R Suppression Cables, which snake around correct "6" heads that are equipped with hardened valve seats and 3-angle valve jobs. Below those heads, forged, .030 over pistons shoot charred dinosaurs into cast iron exhaust manifolds and big, true-dual pipes. Aesthetically, the car's Satin Black fenders and snazzy gold block look fantastic against its bright yellow paint. Thanks to the pros at Wallingford, Connecticut's East Coast Machine & Performance, the stout powerplant is all day reliable. And the entire set up flat out rocks, from its vintage decals and Frigidaire AC compressor all the way to its re-cored radiator and tagged Delco Energizer battery. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The bottom of this awesome Cutlass is completely solid and, thanks to a fully powder-coated chassis, shows no signs of undue wear or question-inducing battle scars. The aforementioned Rocket 350 fronts a rugged Muncie 4-speed that's much more fun than the car's original Turbo-Hydramatic 350. That proven transmission sends power to a stout 12-bolt that's equipped with a limited-slip differential and moderate, 3.42 gears. That driveline hangs in a correct FE2 Rallye suspension, which includes better shocks, thicker coil springs, reinforced control arms and a mandatory rear sway bar. Power-assisted discs and drums provide braking, while turns come courtesy of factory power steering. At the center of the car, aluminized pipes funnel spent gases through buff DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers. And at the corners of the car, color-keyed Styled Steel IIs spin G70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports around stainless trim rings and rocket-branded center caps. INTERIOR For what was meant be a somewhat stripped-down Cutlass, the Rallye 350's interior offers plenty of visual niceties that give it a much more upscale feel. Open the doors to find sophisticated side panels that are accented with bright stainless and rich wood applique. Step past the Fisher Body sill plates and you'll find clean black carpet that's plush and fade-free. A nicely finished combination of bucket and bench seats mixes a stylish pattern with plenty of support. Between those seats, a factory console frames a long Hurst shifter. Above that console, an ornate dash hangs full telemetry over a standard AM/FM radio. The driver stays connected to the road through a correct Custom Sport steering wheel. And the passengers stow their essentials next to a fifth Styled Steel II/Firestone Wide Oval combination that's housed in a fully restored trunk. And today, when you're looking to grab a piece of Detroit's finest iron without closing out your retirement, a numbers-matching Oldsmobile is one of the smartest purchases on the market. There's no reason a blue chip classic should cost more than the mortgage on your house. And there's ABSOLUTELY no reason spending six figures of your hard earned money shouldn't get you a distinguished award winner like this incredible W-30. 1 of only 1,032 W-30 4-speed Holiday coupes built for the 1970 model year, this freshly restored Olds pairs an original, 455 cubic inch V8 with a tough Muncie 4-speed and correct Platinum on Black aesthetics. And if you're the kind of gearhead who likes to take their hardware to the show, it's the lust worthy trophy king you've been saving for! BODYWORK/TRIM Assembled in Lansing, Michigan during the fourth week of October, 1969, this awesome Oldsmobile is an impeccably maintained classic that still features all of its original sheetmetal. During an extensive, rotisserie restoration that was completed in the Spring of 2014, that solid profile was decked in correct Platinum base, trimmed with sinister stripes and sealed in glossy clear. And today, the car rolls as one razor-sharp coupe that mixes minimalist looks with a no-nonsense demeanor. Like all second generation A-bodies, the 442 continued to get better year after year. The car's clean, boxy lines were no doubt a play on its parent division's engineering leadership within the GM hierarchy, and the resulting design continues to weather exceptionally well. At the front of this coupe, a 442-specific grille centers monochromatic "442" lettering between stainless-trimmed T3 headlights and a bright chrome bumper that's finished with clear parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a fiberglass ram air hood leads the eye to a new windshield that, along with the car's all-original greenhouse, rides behind straight stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, traditional GM handles and color-keyed sport mirrors perfectly complement clean marker lamps, dent-free wheel rings and a slick combination of "442" and "W-30" fender emblems. And at the back of the car, a smooth decklid hangs more monochromatic "442" lettering above a second chrome bumper, silver-trimmed taillights and correct, trumpeted exhaust tips. ENGINE It's not immediately apparent why this Olds' body carries so much sizzle; that is, until you see what's under its hood. Twist the locks, fling the resin and you'll find 455 cubic inches of Rocket V8 that hangs a correct 396021F casting number over a matching partial VIN. Stomp the throttle and a restored Quadrajet 4-barrel mixes juice from leak-free fuel lines with wind from a correct W-30 air cleaner, and shoves it in to a high performance, aluminum intake. Mechanically, the stout mill is all day reliable, spinning 500 lb./ft. of rock-crushing torque from one of the largest and most powerful valvetrains ever created. Aesthetically, familiar plastic fenders and Metallic Blue block skin look fantastic against the car's Platinum body. There's a roster of high quality ancillaries that includes American Autowire wiring and a new 4-core Harrison radiator. And the entire set up flat out rocks, from its fresh decals and vivid firewall stamps to its tagged brake lines and color-keyed intake springs. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The bottom of this awesome 442 is completely solid, showing no signs of undue wear or question-inducing battle scars. The aforementioned Rocket 455 fronts a correct close-ratio Muncie, which was professionally rebuilt in the fall of 2013. That proven transmission sends power to a stout 12-bolt, which employs moderate, highway-friendly gears. That smooth driveline hangs in a familiar heavy-duty suspension, which, along with the car's chassis, was thoroughly sandblasted and powder-coated during the rotisserie reboot. Solid stops are provided by rebuilt front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns come courtesy of an old school manual steering rack. At the center of the car, a correct Gardner exhaust system funnels spent gases through baritone turbo mufflers. And everything rolls on powder-coated steelies, which spin G70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports around dog dish hubcaps. INTERIOR Inside this impressive coupe, you'll find a Black Legendary interior that's both comfortable and appealing. At the center of the car, stainless-trimmed seats ride on fresh carpet that's protected by Cutlass floor mats. At the sides of those seats, clean door panels center familiar GM armrests in bright chrome handles, straight stainless trim and fresh wood applique. A wood-trimmed dash hangs basic telemetry above an old school AM radio. At the base of that dash, a slim boot frames a broad Hurst shifter. In front of the driver, a Sport Steering Wheel laps a bright rocket emblem. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a fifth steel wheel and fifth Firestone tire between a small light, correct tools and a fresh mat. Big block Chevelles and aggressively styled GTOs seem to be naturals when it comes to muscle car wish lists. But, in reality, GM's 'more proper' divisions created some of the nastiest stoplight warriors ever unleashed on American streets. Oldsmobile, the General's humble technology division, definitely did its fair share to glorify the rise of Detroit. And this 5-time Olds Nationals champion is a prime example of their much lauded 'bar brawler in a tuxedo' sales mentality. Featuring a numbers-matching drivetrain, an intense Spanish Red on Black color combination and an impressive rotisserie restoration, this Olds is one of the coolest A-Bodies on the planet! And if you're looking for a solid, road-ready classic that'll turn heads and bring home trophies, it's your round-trip rocket ride to the moon! BODYWORK/TRIM Given its mid June build date, workers at GM's Lansing, Michigan production facility undoubtedly drifted to thoughts of summertime fun as this rich coupe rolled down their assembly line. With a striking combination of modernist appeal and open road prowess, it's virtually impossible to picture this classy Olds in anything other than a happy, sunny landscape. Not long ago the car benefitted from a detailed, rotisserie restoration, during which its original sheetmetal was stripped, patched and aligned to better-than-factory condition. A correct layer of Spanish Red base was sealed in modern clear and buffed to an admirable shine. And today, this sweet 442 is a razor-sharp muscle car that intimidates like a cruise missile and shines like the family's best silver. ENGINE Hoist the car's mirrored hood and you'll find a correct and equally rare 400 cubic inch Rocket V8, which is branded with a 442-specific 390925F casting number and "V224517G" assembly stamp. Since pre-68 Rocket blocks are devoid of VIN stamps, we can use that assembly code, which translates as 400 cubic inch (V) high compression (G) engine number 224517, to validate this coupe's status as a real-deal, numbers-matching 442. Professionally rebuilt and fully detailed, the hot V8 is a super-efficient wedge head design that utilizes a standard stroke and undersquare bore to create stout 10.5 to 1 compression, 350 horsepower and 440 lb./ft. of stump-pulling torque. Stomp the throttle and a big Rochester Quadrajet mixes juice from new stainless fuel lines with wind that's supplied by a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner. At the sides of that carb, correct "C" branded heads hang above correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds, which make quick work of spent gases. And at the back of those heads, a correct red cap distributor sequences spark between high quality Packard TV R Suppression Cables and a rare UHV ignition system. Aesthetically, this Oldsmobile's Satin Black fenders and correct Bronze block look fantastic against their vivid red shell. And the entire engine bay, from its pliable hoses and Delco master cylinder to its correct alternator and tagged Delco battery, features a clean, factory-spec appearance. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The bottom of this awesome 442 is completely solid, showing no signs of undue wear or question-inducing battle scars. The aforementioned Rocket 400 fronts a rugged 4-speed that's branded with a correct 3885010 casting number and Muncie (P) assembled on February (B) 7th (07) 1967 (7) build stamp. That proven transmission sends power to a stout 10-bolt that's equipped with moderate, 3.42 gears. That driveline hangs in a tagged heavy-duty suspension, which includes better shocks, thicker coil springs, reinforced control arms and a mandatory rear sway bar. Power-assisted discs and drums provide braking, while turns come courtesy of factory power steering. At the center of the car, aluminized pipes funnel spent gases through buff DynoMax mufflers and chrome-trimmed exhaust tips. And Styled Steel wheels spin F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redlines around rocket-branded center caps. INTERIOR Inside this impressive Olds, you'll find a correct Black interior that's both comfortable and appealing. At the center of the car, stainless-trimmed seats ride on fresh black carpet that's protected by "OLDSMOBILE" branded floor mats. At the sides of those seats, clean door panels center modernist armrests in bright chrome handles and straight stainless trim. A warp-free dash hangs an old school pushbutton radio beside restored factory telemetry. At the base of that dash, an optional console frames a stylish Hurst 442 shifter. In front of the driver, a chrome-trimmed steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a fifth Styled Steel wheel and fifth redline tire between clean decals, a correct jack and a fresh mat. AWARDS If you've made it this far, you know this Oldsmobile is really something special. And, apparently the show scene seems to agree. Here's a list of the car's major accolades.First Place at the 2009 Oldsmobile Club of America Olds Nationals (995 out of 1000 points)First Place at the 2010 Oldsmobile Club of America Olds Nationals (995 out of 1000 points)First Place at the 2012 Oldsmobile Club of America Olds Nationals (1000 out of 1000 points)First Place at the 2013 Oldsmobile Club of America Olds Nationals (1000 out of 1000 points)First Place at the 2014 Oldsmobile Club of America Olds Nationals (998 out of 1000 points)Awarded an Antique Automobile Club of America Senior National First Prize (2013) HISTORICAL INFORMATION Given its history of awards, there's no doubting the quality of this impressive 442's restoration. For the 1967 model year, one of the most potent pieces was the 442 with the W-30 equipped that's found in this handsome ragtop. Nicely restored in 2009, it remains a high-quality piece that's got the horsepower to embarrass some seriously potent machinery. The GM A-body never looked better than when wearing the Oldsmobile rocket emblem. Straight, clean, with a stylish kick-up behind the doors, it's what all muscle cars aspire to look like. Finished in sizzling code R Spanish Red, it's definitely not the wallflower type. As you'd expect for a car at this level, the bodywork is quite nicely done with good gaps and doors that fit just right. It shows some signs of use and you really can't blame a guy for wanting to take this car out on a sunny afternoon, but the impact is still quite impressive when you see it for the first time. White pinstripes highlight the peaked fender line and small '442' badges in the grille and on the deck lid are the only ways to warn the unwary that this isn't your father's Olds. A close-up look will reveal the ram-air scoops flanking the parking lights, but they're virtually invisible on the road, which is just how the Oldsmobile engineers wanted it. The chrome appears to be a combination of original and refinished equipment, with only the taillight bezels showing some age. Nevertheless, this is a really good-looking car! The red bucket seat interior is prototypical muscle car. Add a center console with a Hurst shifter sticking out of it and you have a car that was made for prowling the streets on a Friday night. Fresh upholstery on the seats, reproduction door panels, and new carpets are in excellent shape and definitely not low-key. The dash lays everything out in a wide band of brushed metal trim and there's a period tech tucked in to the left of the main panel. Noteworthy options include power windows and a tilt steering column, both welcome additions, and the restorer has thoughtfully added an AM/FM/CD stereo system so this Olds the perfect travelling companion. A white power top keeps the rain out while the trunk is finished with a reproduction mat, correct bias-ply redline spare tire, and jack assembly. Oldsmobile had a dizzying array of variations on the 400 cubic inch V8, with the W-30 at the top of the list. Featuring those distinctive twin snorkels to force-feed the 4-barrel underneath, it cranks out 360 horsepower and 440 pounds of torque. The engine is a date-code-correct block with proper C-code heads and has been rebuilt to stock specs. It is also beautifully detailed with Oldsmobile Gold paint on the block, proper chrome air cleaner and valve covers, and the correct W-30 red inner fender liners up front. The 4-speed gearbox and 10-bolt rear end are ready to party and with a fresh Flowmaster exhaust system, it has a voice that'll make children run and hid. It's quite clean underneath, with a new gas tank, and rolls on Rally I wheels and neat-looking 225/70/15 redline radials. This gorgeous 442 remains fast, fun, and eminently enjoyable. Big, effortless V8 up front, a soft, pillowy ride, and room enough for six in full-sized comfort all add up to a lot of fun for the money. This particular Olds has a long history of being protected and well-cared-for, starting with the first owner keeping it garaged whenever he wasn't out enjoying the sun. It then spent about 25 years indoors where it was carefully preserved before being disinterred recently and recommissioned. As a result, the code 50 Bamboo paint looks great, with a proper shine for 1970 and no signs of major bodywork in its past. The sheetmetal underneath, all 19 feet of it, looks fantastic and for a big car, this one has great proportions that mask its true size. Typoical trouble spots like the area above the fender skirts, and in the rockers, appear to be in very good condition and panel fit is very good, especially for a convertible. Likewise, the chrome and stainless brightwork is original to the car and while there are a few signs of age that are just inescapable, it shows rather well and certainly fits with the character and condition of the rest of the car. There's some patina to the code 924 Gold upholstery, but nothing that would warrant replacement, and if you're into survivors, you're going to be impressed. The pillow-tufted vinyl seats are in exceptionally good condition with only minor signs of wear and no cracking or split seams, which is really impressive. Age has altered the color of a few pieces just a little bit, but we wouldn't think of replacing anything. The carpets are original and look good, too. The only areas that show their true age might be the door panels and the steering wheel, which shows some delamination that is probably inevitable in a convertible, but those are very small demerits in a very impressive survivor. The instrument panel is definitely a product of 1970 and options include power windows and factory A/C, which was rare in a convertible, even a top-of-the-line Olds. The AM/FM/cassette stereo was added at some point in its past and still sounds good, and there's a black power convertible top that stows under a matching tan vinyl boot. And as you'd expect, the trunk is giant and includes a full-sized spare with jack assembly. Oldsmobile's biggest engine, a Rocket 455 cubic inch V8, provides the kind of low-RPM power that moves this big car without seeming to work hard. The engine bay is exceptionally clean, more evidence that it hasn't been in the snow or other inclement weather, and it's completely stock. Turn the key and it fires up with an idle so smooth that you almost have to double-check to be sure it's running. It has obviously been serviced and includes things like new belts and hoses, a fresh alternator, and some new wiring, all of which were intended to make it a reliable cruiser once again. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission shifts as it should and the ride of this big luxury yacht is exactly as smooth and soft as you'd expect. A recent muffler gives it hushed performance and the recent 215/70/15 whitewall radials certainly help with the smooth ride. A very cool survivor that's also a lot of fun to drive, this Olds is a real bargain at only $1000 per foot. With a fresh restoration to a very high standard, it's a handsome and sophisticated ragtop that delivers on Oldsmobile's promise of luxury and performance in the same package. Of course, that also overlooks the fact that the Cutlass was arguably the best-looking of the A-bodies, and costs a fraction of its Chevrolet and Pontiac siblings. This Aspen Green isn't the flashiest color for a muscle car, but the smooth panels look great in it, and the Cutlass is about more than just horsepower. The blend of performance and luxury that Oldsmobile offered is embodied in this Cutlass ragtop. The body is sporty, with dramatic curves, flared fenders, and a handsome front end that was instantly recognizable as being from the Rocket division. But it's a sophisticated kind of sporty, not aggressive or over-blown, which means no stripes or brash nicknames, just an upscale look with a subtle paint job that still looks fantastic. The car shows no signs of having been wrecked or rusty, so everything fits together exactly the way the factory assembled it more than 40 years ago. In addition, the chrome is quite nice, with no parking lot dings or signs of corrosion around the edges, which is doubly impressive in a car that was actually, you know, used as a car for many years. Choosing a black interior with the Aspen Green paint was the right choice, although I'm guessing the brochures of the time were pushing white interiors. Bucket seats, a center console, and factory A/C suggest that someone was feeling generous with the options list and had this Cutlass built just the way they wanted it. Other things, like the burled walnut dash appliques, the stainless steel gauge faces, and 4-spoke steering wheel were all standard Cutlass fare, and the combination works really well. An AM/FM stereo replaces the original radio and uses speakers down in the kick panels to fill the interior with sound. A matching black convertible top with glass rear window fits well, folds easily, and doesn't have any rips or tears, stowing itself with the touch of a button on the dash. The trunk is in good order with spatter paint, a full-sized spare with brand new tire, and a factory-style jack assembly. Oldsmobile's 350 cubic inch V8 shared exactly zero components with the Chevy version, and thanks to its higher nickel content in the iron block, has proven to be virtually indestructible out in the real world. It has a distinctive sound all its own, a sophisticated burble that's perfect for the Cutlass's dual nature. It was rebuilt to stock specs in 2008, with gold paint on the engine, original air cleaner, and a lot of new components that say someone loved to drive it. The A/C has been converted to R134a refrigerant, and there's now a rumbling dual exhaust system that sounds great without being over-bearing. A TH350 3-speed automatic spins the original 12-bolt rear end and has highway-friendly gears inside that make this an awesome choice for a road trip. Classic Oldsmobile Rally wheels are painted a contrasting light silver and wear 225/70/14 white-letter radials. A neat car a top that goes down makes for a fun hobby vehicle. The fact that it's a V8-powered A-body convertible is just icing on the cake. Like most muscle cars of the late-60s, the Oldsmobile 442 had a bewildering array of options and powertrains. For the 1967 model year, one of the most potent pieces was the 442 with the W-30 equipped that\'s found in this handsome ragtop. Nicely restored in 2009, it remains a high-quality piece that\'s got the horsepower to embarrass some seriously potent machinery. The GM A-body never looked better than when wearing the Oldsmobile rocket emblem. Straight, clean, with a stylish kick-up behind the doors, it\'s what all muscle cars aspire to look like. Finished in sizzling code R Spanish Red, it\'s definitely not the wallflower type. As you\'d expect for a car at this level, the bodywork is quite nicely done with good gaps and doors that fit just right. It shows some signs of use and you really can\'t blame a guy for wanting to take this car out on a sunny afternoon, but the impact is still quite impressive when you see it for the first time. White pinstripes highlight the peaked fender line and small \'442\' badges in the grille and on the deck lid are the only ways to warn the unwary that this isn\'t your father\'s Olds. A close-up look will reveal the ram-air scoops flanking the parking lights, but they\'re virtually invisible on the road, which is just how the Oldsmobile engineers wanted it. The chrome appears to be a combination of original and refinished equipment, with only the taillight bezels showing signs of age. The dash lays everything out in a wide band of brushed metal trim and there\'s a period tech tucked in to the left of the main panel. It is also beautifully detailed with Oldsmobile Gold paint on the block, proper chrome air cleaner and valve covers, and the W-30 red inner fender liners up front. The 4-speed gearbox and 10-bolt rear end are ready to party and with a fresh Flowmaster exhaust system, it has a voice that\'ll make children run and hid. It\'s quite clean underneath, with a new gas tank, and rolls on Rally I wheels and neat-looking 225/70/15 redline radials. This gorgeous 442 remains fast, fun, and eminently enjoyable. Call today! Rocket fans, the recent popularity of the 442 is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it\'s great that the musclebound Olds is finally getting the recognition it deserves. On the other, cars like this 1969 hardtop won\'t be this affordable for too much longer. A quality survivor with a single repaint and some fresh chrome, this 442 is highly desirable and quite reasonably priced, but only for now. Repainted sometime long ago in the original code 69 Platinum Silver, this 442 has a great all-of-a-piece look that typifies the best survivors. It offers the feeling of a factory-assembled car that no restoration can duplicate, and thanks to decades of careful ownership, it remains eminently useable and highly attractive. Nobody will argue that the 60,167 miles shown are most likely authentic (but aren\'t documented) and the car certainly looks like a low-mile preservation piece from just about every angle. The repaint, which probably happened back in the \'70s, still looks great with a vintage shine that looks like period-correct enamel and not shiny modern urethane and it\'s obvious that the bodywork has not required major surgery to get into its current state. Thanks to spending the past few decades in protected storage, the sheetmetal doesn\'t have the usual dings from being a daily driver and that vinyl top remains in excellent shape with no UV damage or popped seams. The chrome was refinished in the \'80s and remains in very good shape today. The black bucket seat interior is original and shows just how well-preserved this car really is. Sure, there\'s some very minor wear on the seats, but the original materials have a warm, inviting look. Burled walnut appliques on the dash and center console are appropriate given the Old\'s upscale position and this one carries some very desirable options include a tilt wheel, factory A/C (not connected), and a remote trunk release. Factory Rally gauges, including a Tick-Tock-Tach, are in excellent order with bright markings and the original AM radio still lives in the center of the dash. The back seat looks almost new, as do the carpets, which are protected by matching rubber mats. Hit that remote trunk release and you\'ll find a very nicely finished trunk with a matching wheel and redline spare tire. Part of the 442 formula included a 400 cubic inch V8, which is this car\'s original, numbers-matching engine. With just 60,000 original miles, this one has probably never been opened and it just isn\'t necessary at this point. It starts easily and runs superbly and still looks quite good, from the bright red air cleaner to the factory Oldsmobile Bronze paint on the engine itself. There are no untoward modifications, and it still uses the original intake and exhaust manifolds to make horsepower the way GM intended. A stout TH400 3-speed automatic is more than up to the rigors of the Old\'s prodigious torque output and powers a set of 3.23 gears out back. The exhaust system is recent and has a fabulous soundtrack, and you\'ll be impressed by just how clean the undercarriage is. Shiny factory SSII Rally wheels are maybe the best-looking GM factory wheel, and wear 225/70/14 Firestone white-letter radials. 442 prices are on the move, and highly original cars like this will always command a premium. The fact that it\'s also a blast to drive and in outstanding shape make this one very desirable A-body. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom. Like the look but not the price tag of the 442? Perhaps this 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible will fit the bill. It sure looks convincing, and with a 350 cubic inch Rocket V8, it\'s no slouch in the performance department, either. Forget authenticity, any drop-top Cutlass is a great-looking car. From the hood with twin air scoops to the white stripes that outline the aggressive fender flares, this car certainly looks the part of Oldsmobile\'s hottest performer. The hood is a fiberglass reproduction but looks right on the Cutlass, which is arguably the best-looking of the GM A-bodies. The work was done some time ago but is holding up well, and for sheer eyeball appeal, this 442 tribute is pretty hard to beat. The electric blue paint is a distinctive part of the 442 legend, and with 442 badges, most folks won\'t know the difference. Clean sheetmetal comes from years of living in a warm climate and it\'s kind of nice to see that they skipped the rear spoiler on the trunk lid, which leaves the crisp Cutlass lines uninterrupted. The urethane paint shines up nicely, the black grilles and headlight surrounds give it an aggressive look, and all the chrome is in excellent condition. The glittering white interior is a great choice for a car that\'s going to spend a lot of time out in the sun, and it shows lots of upgrades. The seat covers, carpets, door panels, and other soft parts are in great shape, and the black and white color combination looks sporty and luxurious at the same time, an Oldsmobile trademark. This car comes equipped with factory air conditioning, always a desirable option, even (or perhaps especially) for a ragtop, and power steering and brakes are part of the deal, too. The dash is covered with a custom carbon-fiber applique that\'s far more appropriate than the original fake woodgrain and the original gauges still look good. A 4-spoke steering wheel adds to the performance feel, and even though it\'s just an AM radio in the dash, you probably won\'t have much need for it anyway. Instead, hit the button and the white convertible top folds itself into the well behind the back seat. And thanks to the Olds\' big trunk with a correct mat and full-sized spare tire, it\'s ready for a cross-country road trip whenever you are. The engine is Oldsmobile\'s famous Rocket 350 and it delivers plenty of performance to make that hood and those stripes entirely appropriate. It\'s period correct and similar to the engine that originally came in this car, and offers a 4-barrel carburetor and a throaty dual exhaust system to deliver entertaining acceleration. Oldsmobile Gold paint on the engine looks right and there are a lot of fairly recent components, including the power brake booster and alternator. It\'s backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and original 10-bolt rear end, and you\'ll note that the chassis is solid if not detailed for show. Color-matched Oldsmobile Rally II wheels with shiny trim rings give it a racy look and wear staggered 215/70/15 front and 235/70/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. Offering fast top-down fun, this Olds is an affordable way to get a piece of the 442 legend without worrying about pedigrees and future values. Just get out and drive! Call today. If you\'re kind of looking for a Chevelle or GTO but not finding any within your budget, perhaps you should start thinking differently. Take this 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, for example. The same tidy A-body footprint, a uniquely aggressive Oldsmobile look, and a fantastic combination of power and luxury that the junior brands can\'t quite match. Check it out. The code V Antique Pewter paint gives this big Olds a mature but somewhat sinister look, like it\'s all dressed up for a night out, complete with black leather gloves and an attitude. The paint is about five years old and shows pretty well, but a cut and buff would work wonders on it, taking it up a few levels without a big investment. The clean flanks are free of messy body cladding or trim, and the guys who did the work were careful to maintain that crisp line that frames the wheel wells and tracks along the rocker panels. Nice! The wide grille with quad headlights was a distinctive Oldsmobile look for more than a decade, and it looks right without trying too hard. Stacked taillights were used throughout the lineup, so there\'s a full-sized connection to the brand even from behind. Chrome and stainless are quite nice and really pop against the dark gray paint, and the black vinyl top was installed at the same time, so it looks fresh. Bucket seats were rather rare in Oldsmobiles, but if you\'re cross-shopping from the Chevelle store, you\'ll be thrilled to see them here. New seat covers with correct materials and patterns leave no doubt that this is a GM A-body, and there are matching black carpets on the floor. It\'s quite possible that the door panels are original, since they\'re not quite as nice, but if they are, then you know someone loved this car, because they\'re in great shape. And as I said, as an Oldsmobile, you got a few perks like factory A/C, power steering and power front disc brakes. Today there\'s a newer AM/FM/CD stereo under the dash in its own housing, so the original dash wasn\'t hacked up for the install, and custom kick panels with built-in speakers are a subtle way to improve the sound quality. Also take a moment to check out the ultra-clean trunk, complete with color-matched spare wheel and tire assembly and a new mat. Oldsmobile\'s 330 cubic inch V8 was hardly a slouch in the performance department. Cackling to life with that characteristic Oldsmobile starter chatter, it idles smoothly and pulls with torque that suggests more cubic inches at work than there actually are. The engine is completely stock, and as a result it\'s reliable and easy to service. Fresh Rocket Gold paint on the block and a flashy Jetfire air cleaner give it an Oldsmobile look under the hood, and thanks to a factory-style exhaust system, it sounds powerful, yet subdued. A 3-speed automatic transmission and the original rear end mean that it\'s a superlative highway cruiser, and while the ride is smooth and supple, it is far from clumsy when the road starts to twist. Classic Magnum 500 wheels look good on just about anything, and on this Olds they wear 225/70/14 white-letter radials that look sporty. So take advantage of the Oldsmobile\'s anonymity, you might just find that there\'s a lot more car here than you expect, especially at this price. Call today! There\'s still a lot more bang for your buck with an Oldsmobile, as this 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible so ably demonstrates. There\'s a small block V8 under the hood, incredible styling that neatly bridges sporty and luxurious, and a long list of features that make it an awesome choice over a more common (and expensive) Chevelle convertible. How can you not love the way this car looks? If you\'ve outgrown your boy-racer image, this Olds neatly captures top-down fun in a sporting A-body without going over the top with it. The gorgeous medium blue paint is bright and distinctive, and it grabs your attention without shouting about it. Two-stage urethane paint certainly makes for an impressive shine and the steel underneath is in above-average condition and really looks crisp under the icy blue finish. White stripes give it a racy look that\'s certainly appropriate and they\'ve been buried under the clear coat so the final surface is smooth and glossy, not to mention easy to maintain. Nice chrome bumpers, blacked-out grilles, and familiar two-element taillights give this Olds a familiar look that will never go out of style. The handsome white on blue interior looks crisp and fresh and offers a great complement to the bodywork without adding another color to the mix. It\'s standard Oldsmobile fare, which means a bit of luxury to go with your muscle, and it\'s particularly effective here. The seat covers are brilliantly white and the rest of the interior is nicely maintained so you can cruise without worries. The woodgrained appliques on the dash and door panels are likely original and perhaps showing some very minor signs of age, but the gauges are bright and crisp and there are recent seat belts at all five positions. Auxiliary gauges have been slotted neatly under the dash, since Olds didn\'t give you much beyond the basics, and goodies like factory A/C are very welcome. A powerful AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo lives in the dash, powering a subwoofer in the trunk, plus a CD changer that\'s momentarily disconnected simply because with iPods, there\'s not much need anymore. A snug-fitting white top is probably a few years old, but includes a glass rear window, which is always nice. And despite the stereo gear, there\'s also a matching fifth wheel and tire in the trunk, along with a jack assembly and correct mats. Oldsmobile\'s 350 cubic inch \"Rocket\" V8 shared only its displacement with Chevy\'s small block, but it has a distinctly different personality. With a very precise-sounding mechanical whir, it rumbles to life easily and idles happily without complaint and with a broad torque curve, you\'ll forget about you big block aspirations pretty quickly. Finished with a chrome open-element air cleaner and matching valve covers, plus some corporate blue engine enamel, it has a well-cared-for appearance that suits this car just fine. New equipment includes the power brake booster and an upgrade to R134a refrigerant for the A/C system (it should probably be checked), and these engines have proven to be as durable as anything of the period. Backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic and a 10-bolt rear end, the powertrain is rugged and easy to service. Flowmaster mufflers produce a distinctly Oldsmobile sound that\'s quite pleasing and those color-matched Rally II wheels are some of the most attractive ever fitted to an A-body. With fat 225/70/14 BFG radials, it definitely has a performance stance. For a nice summer cruiser, this Cutlass\'s combination of performance, looks, and price are going to be very hard to beat. Fast and sophisticated, this 1971 Oldsmobile 442 isn\'t like most muscle cars. Yes, it does carry its original 455 cubic inch V8 and yes, it\'s dressed in some seriously aggressive bodywork, but the combination of the sleek silver paint and comfortable interior remind us that buying an Olds was an entirely different experience. OK, so the original color was Antique Green, but I\'m guessing there\'s just no way it looked as good as the icy silver paint this 442 currently wears. In a sea of red and yellow and black muscle, this car stands out, looking both contemporary and brutal, it seems to ignore the usual standards and goes off on its own. Sure, it\'s got hood scoops and a wing on the deck lid, plus a pair of black stripes that highlight the hood, but showing up in this car gets a lot of attention. It\'s also a real-deal 442, so those badges were installed honestly and the aggressive look is factory-issue. Nice chrome sparkles against the silver paint, black pinstripes highlight the flared fenders, and it\'s really hard to not love this Olds. The black interior was also fully restored to factory specs, including the front bench seat that\'s a somewhat unusual find in a 442. Oldsmobile\'s added luxury is evident throughout, from the woodgrained door panels to the somewhat more expensive-feeling vinyl used on the seats to the rather lengthy list of options. There\'s hardly any wear on any of the soft parts, so the car looks and feels quite fresh, and that\'s a tic-toc tach to the right of the speedometer. Included among this car\'s features are power windows, factory air-conditioning, and ultra-rare cruise control, which I don\'t think I\'ve seen before on a car like this. The original AM radio is gone, but the AM/FM/cassette unit in its place does a decent job of looking like it belongs there and sounds decent, too. And despite the fastback profile, there\'s a good-sized trunk with plenty of space inside even with a full-sized spare stowed there, too. That\'s the original, numbers-matching 455 cubic inch V8, and while new rules and lower octane fuels knocked a few horsepower off the top, the mountainous torque it produces delivers the performance you\'d expect. The engine bay is clean and obviously shows signs that it was carefully and accurately restored some time ago, with bright corporate blue engine enamel, a correct 442 decal on the air cleaner, and all original equipment save for the long-tube headers and 3-inch exhaust system. It barks to life with that distinctive Oldsmobile sound and eagerly pulls the slick coupe around without ever seeming to work very hard. A heavy-duty TH400 3-speed automatic transmission has no problem keeping up and the original rear end still plants the power. It appears that the gas tank was recently replaced and although the chassis isn\'t detailed for show, it\'s as tidy as the engine bay and ready for another round of cruising the streets. Perennially attractive Oldsmobile Rally wheels are color-matched to the body and carry 225/70/14 Firestone radials at all four corners. The look, the pedigree, and the power all work together to make one of the most compelling muscle cars we\'ve featured recently. The fact that it\'s also very affordable is merely icing on the cake.
