Even today, it's a blast to drive and makes for one of the most handsome cars of the period. The hardtop look arrived with the overhead valve V8 engine in 1949, instantly making Oldsmobile the big kid on the block when it came to performance. Everything else that came before it was second-place, and if you were fast, you had a Rocket under your hood. The fantastic styling of this top-of-the-line 98 Holiday coupe makes it the ideal professional hot rod of the period, and draping it in Garnet Maroon gives it the perfect upscale look. Blending a few curves left over from the 1940s and a streamlined look that would define the 1950s, this Olds was carefully refinished to a very high level and still looks fantastic following a repaint just a few years ago. The chrome and trim is beautifully done and the rocket theme repeats itself on the hood ornament and under the headlights, which resemble the intakes on a fighter plane. The three-pane rear window was a GM styling trademark, as were the lovely "globe" emblems front and rear. It's obvious this car has led a really good life. There's plenty of evidence of that inside, where you'll find an almost 100% original interior. The cloth and leather seats have a very comfortable, inviting look that's far from looking its age. The understated colors work quite well and GM stylists worked hard to give each brand a unique look. For Oldsmobile, it was a two-tiered dashboard that put all the gauges in a single pod ahead of the driver, plus a gorgeous steering wheel that echoes the exterior styling. As Oldsmobile's top-of-the-line model, it should be no surprise that this car features power hydraulic windows and a power seat, both of which were still a big deal in 1950. There's also an AM radio in the dash and a Hydra-Matic transmission on the steering column. Chrome knobs and levers echo the aircraft theme. The trunk is unquestionably original, with factory fabric and a full-sized spare of indeterminate age. Oldsmobile's 303 cubic inch V8 was a very big deal in 1949, and 1950 only helped cement its position as THE engine to have. The neatly dressed overhead valve V8 carries its original 2-barrel carburetor with air cleaner, Rocket valve covers with special brackets for the plug wires, and even a factory generator still making the juice. Power steering was added at some point (it wasn't OEM until 1952) and uses factory-style components so that only an expert will notice. And GM's Hydra-Matic automatic transmission delivered sparkling performance behind the fast-revving V8 engine, especially when breathing through a rumbling dual exhaust system. The chassis features originality and years of grease and dirt, but no major issues and offers more proof that this car really has been well-maintained all its life. Painted steel wheels with full wheel covers are fitted with 8.20-15 Firestone wide whites for the perfect 1950s cruiser look. With ownership history dating almost to day one, this wonderful Oldsmobile 98 offers contemporary performance with a fantastic old-school look. I'm selling my 1956 Oldsmobile Holiday 98 2 Door Hardtop. This is an amazing and spectacular car, but it is time for someone else to enjoy it. The car is full power with power windows, seat, brakes, steering and power antenna. This is a beautiful, totally rust-free California Car. The engine and transmission have received a complete master rebuild and are numbers match. The engine is the 240 HP, 324 Cubic IN V8, The transmission is the Jet-A-Way Hydromatic. All mechanical parts of this vehicle have been rebuilt, replaced or updated accordingly. There have been so many parts rebuilt on this car aside from the engine and transmission, that it is hard to remember them all. Just to list a few, the brakes and booster are all new, new carb, new starter, new water pump, new dual exhaust, new battery, new shocks, new alternator system replaced generator. This car has a new air-conditioning system that is great! The interior in this car is something to see and is flat out awesome. The interior was completely restored from a professional shop from top to bottom and front to back. The interior trim/stainless/chrome is excellent. The glass is tinted glass and all is excellent. The paint on the car is 8 years old and is excellent. Paint is a high gloss black that reflects everything in it's way. The chrome/stainless on this car is excellent. All stainless is excellent. The bumpers have all been re-chromed. The pot metal has all been re-chromed or replaced with perfect NOS parts. The radio has been sent off and converted to AM/FM. As mentioned , the car has been updated with brand new 17" tires and rims. Rims are American Racing Torque Trust II like many cars. I also have the original hub caps and rims for my car. Oldsmobile's top of the line loaded up cruiser. Remarkably solid Louisiana car in original condition. This car needs everything redone. It appears pretty much everything is there except the heater motor and wheel covers. Seats are solid, but need re-upholstering. Dash pad is shot and ceiling material is falling down. The interior door material is deteriorated but the doors look very solid. The chrome on the dash is pitted and will need to be re-chromed for show. I have not tried to start or drive this car, so I don't know what condition the engine and drive train is in. The hood in bent next to the hinges and needs to be repaired. Most of the stainless is good, but the right front fender molding is damaged. Some of the scripts and trunk trim are damaged. The paint is gone on the roof, hood and trunk lid, leaving them rust pitted, but not beyond easy repair. Actual mileage unknown by Seller. This is a rare, luxury automobile, very worthy of loving restoration. These GORGEOUS 56 Oldsmobile Holiday Sedans were the epitome of luxury, fit and finish in their day. THE OLDSMOBILE RUNS AND DRIVES EXCELLENT. NO UNWANTED ENGINE NOISES. ENGINE DOES NOT SMOKE OR USE OIL. MAKES GOOD POWER AND WILL CRUISE WITH FREEWAY TRAFFIC. I bought this car last fall as we buy many classics and work on them over the winter to get them road worthy for the summer. Well it was a long winter and this one we never got to. The person I got it from told me it needed a rear end we checked it out but seams fine one came with the car and is still in the trunk if it turns out bad , The change is pretty strait forward and easy to do. We had the car shipped from Nevada and its in one of my garages right now and can stay there until someone makes arrangements for shipping or we can help you arrange shipping. The prior owner had the car running on a gas can hanging under the hood, we did the same put a battery in and it fired right up. we filled it with trans fluid and drove it onto our lift to ck it out. The engine runs perfect. It started right up with no noises and sounded great. the trans was slow to move at first and may need a rebuild or service but it did drive. The power brakes worked and so did the power steering. the power windows all rolled up and down last year but were very slow i am sure they will need to be cleaned. The body is Nice with no Rot there is No rot in the floors, rockers, fenders, quarters, roof, trunk, trunk lid, hood! there is a very little bit of surface rust but thats it!
