Packard turned from building top-tier luxury cars prior to WWII to Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engines during the war, but picked up in 1946 with the Clipper series they had introduced in 1941. The returning 1946 Packard Clippers were almost identical to the prewar cars, being semi-streamlined two- and four-door sedans with fade-away fenders. The grille remained tall and narrow, only now with fewer and thicker bars. The Clipper could be ordered with a 245-cid straight-six engine that produced 105 hp, a 125-hp straight-eight engine that displaced 282 cid, or a 356-cid, 165-hp L-head eight. The latter engine was reserved for the luxury Super and Custom Super lines. The base Clipper rode on a 120-inch wheelbase, while the Super and Custom Super Clippers rode a 127-inch wheelbase. The Custom Super also came as a seven-passenger sedan and as a limo, both of which rode on 148-inch long wheelbases, which was one of the longest in the domestic industry. Prices ran from $1,700 for a six-cylinder car to $2,900 for a Custom Super Clipper sedan. The LWB versions were more than $1,000 above that price, still. The 1947 model year was essentially identical to the 1946. The Clipper is an interesting line to follow, with some of the 1946 and 1947 cars at the very top of Packard quality. Because of low production numbers, trim and parts are hard to find for these cars, and cars without needs can be difficult to discover. Once they are found, however, they are worthwhile additions to any collector’s garage.

1946 Packard Sedan. Just completed and tested rebuilt motor, new wide white wall tires, recent upholstery work. Beautiful hand rubbed, multi-layer dark blue original paint. I just drove it the first 40 miles since we worked on it. It runs beautifully at freeway speeds. It runs nice and cool. This car is virtually rust free. No hint of a smoker ever being in it. The motor still needs to be run-in for another thousand miles or more before you take it any faster. The speedometer goes to 120 miles per hour, but I doubt the car will. Packards were considered to be the most advanced, prestigious cars on the road. I moved to Coronado where I have a two car garage, but I have 5 cars. Some have to go. I can ship this anywhere.

This 54 Packard Caribbean is in Tennessee near Nashville where it is meticulously stored and driven on nice days and special occasions. The car was 100% restored 9 years ago and runs like a champ and still looks pristine. The car shows well and has many awards to its credit. The Caribbean was seen at large car shows in Nashville and then was invited to an inclusive invite only Concours show where it competed against 10 other exceptional Packard's from this era and it won 2nd place and I bet the shrewd judges had to flip coin between first and second. Everything is correct down to the bias ply tires that drive very well. Mileage shown is correct to car. The rebuilt the 359 Straight 8 is correct with higher compression aluminum head. The block has over bore.030 and crank was turned .010 and .020. New valves and lifter were installed. This motor makes the Caribbean cruise. Many hard to find NOS parts were located and used through out. The late Bob Aller of Packard mechanical fame was very instrumental in providing his abundant knowledge of Packards in getting this car correct to factory standards. He rebuilt the transmission and steering components and advised. The interior was done in correct red and white leather with correct seat buttons put in place. The under side is very clean and has a little road dust on it from being enjoyed. All hydraulics and electrics work has should. The owner’s plans have changed and wants to move this beauty to a new home. No disappointments. You can call 931-432-6377 8-5 Central time with questions or comments I also have video of this car driving I could email. Fly into Nashville and inspect. Sells world wide....

1936 Packard Twelve 1407 Coupe Roadster                             Last of the truly great Packard Twelve’s!  Suicide doors, dual side mounts, chrome wire wheels, rumble seat, AM radio, deluxe heater, and more!  Gorgeous interior, excellent chrome, rebuilt drivetrain, and same former ownership of 25+ years!  Represents one of only 682 Twelve’s built for 1936, and one of the few Coupe Roadsters to ever come to market! After the Great Depression of 1929 had crippled American lifestyle, Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, MI felt buyers of their exclusive product line would require more value for their money once on showrooms. It was decided that Senior Packard’s would become even more opulent and expensive!  Style lines improved dramatically, and the numbered Series models continued as they begun in 1923.  By 1931, adjustable shocks allowed for a new, driver-operated Ride Control system.  The Twin Six twelve cylinder-equipped vehicles were simply renamed Twelve’s in 1933 and stayed this way through their final year of 1939. With the introduction of a new medium-priced model, which came to production in 1935, named the 120 Model, it undeniably saved Packard from a similar demise of luxury brands such as Stutz, Marmon, Franklin, Pierce-Arrow, and Duesenberg. This inexpensive Junior option was built by more modern mass-production standards, while the Senior cars continued to require slower, handmade traditional craftsmanship.  Nearly 10 times as many Junior cars would be produced.  Packard continued to be recognized as America’s strongest luxury brand the world over.   For several reasons the 1936 model year, named the 14th Series instead of the 13th apparently for superstitious reasons, would become one of the most desired among serious Packard collectors.  It would be the last year for suicide style forward opening doors, solid axle front ends, and availability of wire spoke wheels!  The Twelve Coupe Roadster undeniably being one of the most beautifully sculpted Packard’s of all time! We are very excited to offer this hard to find 1936 Packard Twelve 1407 Coupe Roadster finished in Mayan Maroon with Red pinstripe and Tan Leather interior accented beautifully by Carpathian straight grained elm wood grained dash and steering wheel. Powered by its original & fully rebuilt 473ci V12 engine (#904445) producing 175 horsepower/366 ft. lbs. of torque mated to a 3-speed floor-shifted manual transmission with synchromesh top two gears.  Options & features include 17” Chrome wire spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin X 7.50R17 XCA Radial tube type wide whitewall tires, dual side-mounted spare tires with steel covers and Packard “se-Rite” mirrors, dual sun visors, metal-inlayed wood door caps, Packard Deluxe AM car radio, Packard heater, Ride Control system, dual golf bag doors with key locks, vacuum assisted drum brakes, rear rumble seat with fold out arm pads, interior map light, 30 gallon gas tank, and more! Our gorgeous example showcases a 30-year old restoration that survived exceptionally well while in the hands of its former Seattle caretaker of 25 years! Having a proper, professional restoration hold up this well over time supports it was done right the first time.  The dash wood graining, seat leathers, steering wheel, interior knobs & controls all appear in excellent condition.  The exterior chrome is bright and smooth without and spotting or pitting, while the paint lacquer paint has held up quite well with only subtle signs of age upon closer inspection.  Always garaged, and only driven and the nicest of days during the limited season provided in the Northwest.  Today, it continues to be an excellent driver provided with an electric fuel pump, added Antique, Inc. turn signals, and a battery cut-off under the hood for times of storage. According the Packard body tag attached bearing chassis #939-223, this car sold new in February 1936 from Packard in Akron, OH. Having made its way to the west coast later in life, with a stop in Oregon before settling into Washington State, it was honored with a CCCA National First Place award after being restored (Award #1154).  A great opportunity for the astute Packard collector looking for the last of the great Twelve’s ever built!  This Packard Twelve 2/4 Coupe Roadster would be a splendid addition!  Please feel free to call with questions.
